Review of HTC Desire X: repetition of the past. Smartphone HTC Desire X - model review, customer and expert reviews Is it possible to buy htc desire x

In the category of budget smartphones, a wide range is always provided. The competition between them is high. Naturally, each manufacturer is trying to draw the attention of potential buyers to their model. To do this, they use original solutions in external design, select the components of the hardware platform to ensure the speed and characteristics of cameras and displays. It was on this principle that the HTC Desire X smartphone was developed. Of course, the above criteria directly depend on the cost of the device. You have to understand that there are no devices with flagship stuffing in the budget segment. The main thing here is to see how the balance between price and equipment is maintained. And judging by the reviews, in Desire X it is optimal. So, let's get acquainted with the characteristics of this model.

Appearance

The manufacturer, releasing HTC Desire X Dual, did not limit himself to classic colors only. A navy blue variant has been added to the lineup. Of the features of the appearance, it is worth highlighting the metal frame that runs along the entire perimeter.

If you do not take into account the thickness of the case (9.3 mm), then the gadget can be safely called compact, since its length and width are 118.5 and 62.3 mm, respectively.

The layout of the controls is standard. On the front side there is a panel with three touch buttons. To turn on and lock the key, displayed on the upper end in the center. Next to it, offset to the left, is the headphone port. There are no elements on the bottom side, except for the microphone hole. The charging port and volume rocker are located on the right side.

As you can see, the phone is not much different from its predecessors. However, it still has a highlight - the location of the brand name. Now it is under the camera lens closer to the left side of the back cover. There is a speaker hole underneath. It is difficult to judge whether the place is well chosen for it, since in the reviews the owners say that they often cover it with their hands. And this, accordingly, leads to a slight distortion of the sound.

Ergonomics

Many buyers have noticed similarities between HTC Desire X and another model from this manufacturer - One X. However, upon closer examination, many differences can be found. Definitely, the described smartphone does not reach the flagship, but in its class it will not go unnoticed. Almost all owners consider it successful in terms of ergonomics. Let's remember that back in 2012, not all buyers wanted to walk with "shovels". And Desire X, due to its compact size, does not cause inconvenience. In the hand lies like a glove. The weight is small, so it can be carried in any pocket of clothing. Even those who talk on the phone for a long time noticed that the hand does not get tired at all.

Screen

HTC Desire X is equipped with a four-inch display. As for an inexpensive model, it has pretty good characteristics. Resolution - 800 × 480 px. Production technology - Super LCD. Pretty good pixel density - 233 ppi. This indicator guarantees a high-quality and clear image. The colors on the screen look saturated, the contrast is enough even for working outdoors in sunny weather. There are light and proximity sensors. The manufacturer also implemented the Multitouch option.

It is impossible not to notice that the screen is protected by glass with a high level of resistance to mechanical damage. The significant advantages include the oleophobic layer. It prevents the accumulation of fingerprints.

HTC Desire X: hardware platform specifications

The phone is built on a processor model already known to users - Snapdragon S4 (MSM8225). It is produced by a company with a fairly good reputation - Qualcomm. Of course, the characteristics of this chip, by modern standards, are weak, but we must not forget that the device was released in 2012. The processor is based on two cores. They are capable of overclocking up to 1000 MHz each. The system is 32-bit. Architecture - ARMv7. The technical process is 45 nm. In order for the phone to be able to work with graphic images, the manufacturer installed an Adreno 203 video card along with the central processor. All these characteristics are supplemented by 768 MB of RAM. In general, the platform turned out to be not very powerful, but for this smartphone there is enough performance. The interface works without delay. Users claim that you can use several applications at once. With such a load, the device copes without difficulty. With games that match the characteristics, there will also be no problems. However, the case will noticeably heat up in the process.

As for the built-in storage, its volume is small - only 4 GB. Owners will have to immediately install a memory card (up to 32 GB). By the way, the manufacturer has provided another way to expand the memory - the Dropbox cloud service. The subscription is valid for two years. Disk space - 25 GB.

This hardware platform fully complies with the requirements of the installed Android 4.0.4 OS. The developers did not abandon the proprietary shell Sense 4.1.

Battery life

Will HTC Desire X please with battery life? In their reviews, the owners drew attention to the fact that a 1650 mAh battery can provide up to 24 hours of operation, subject to active use. If you use the device only for calls and briefly connect to the Internet, then you will have to charge it no more than once every two days. But during games, the battery life lasts for four hours.

Camera

This phone model is equipped with only one camera. The lens is displayed on the rear panel. Module resolution - 5 megapixels. The indisputable advantage is the presence of a flash. Thanks to it, you can take good shots in low light. ImageChip technology provides fast auto focus.

In order to appreciate the pictures taken with the HTC Desire X camera, you need to take into account its low cost. For its segment, optics can be safely called high-quality. However, for a detailed shot, good lighting is necessary (the flash cannot provide such conditions). If you take a picture of an object too close, then the overexposed areas will be visible in the picture.

The owners attributed the presence of the VideoPic option to the advantages. It provides the ability to simultaneously work in both photo and video mode. Clips are recorded as 800 × 480 px. There is an automatic stabilization. However, watching the video on a large screen will not work, as the picture will be heavily pixelated.

Features of work

For those who are still unfamiliar with the branded shell of this manufacturer, we will offer a brief instruction. HTC Desire X will delight users with a simple and intuitive interface. In order to make the screen active, just unlock the gadget. For ease of use, all pre-installed applications are arranged alphabetically. When numbers are stored in the phone book, they are indicated by different colors. If suddenly you don’t like something, then you just need to save the information again. It is very convenient to search for a subscriber in the book. To do this, just enter the first letters of the name or surname. You can also search by number.

According to the owners, the virtual keyboard is very convenient. You can choose either numeric mode or alphabetic mode. In the first case, the buttons will be large, in the second - smaller. In order for them to increase, it is enough to change the orientation of the phone to horizontal.

Initially, standard applications are installed on the smartphone. If you want to expand this list, then everything you need can be found in the "Play Store".

HTC Desire X reviews

Given that this smartphone model is presented in the budget segment, most users felt that it had no drawbacks. The only downside was the plastic case. Its reliability and quality of the material raised doubts among buyers.

But those who nevertheless decided to purchase a gadget identified a number of advantages. These include:

  • Branded firmware Sense 4.1 with a beautiful interface.
  • The current version of the operating system (for 2013).
  • productive processor.
  • High-quality screen with good rich color reproduction.
  • The presence of a slot for a memory card.

Of course, this model cannot be compared with flagship smartphones. However, for its segment, this is a worthy copy. Surprisingly, after a few years (more than four), it can still be purchased in online stores. On average, they ask for 4500 rubles for it. The characteristics of the phone fully justify such a cost.

In 2012, HTC decided to revive its Desire brand, giving it new life in the budget (if we talk about HTC Desire C) and middle class, while Desire and Desire S were flagships in 2010 and 2011 (with reservations, there was also the Incredible S model , and then also Sensation) year. In effect, this allowed HTC to release a whole line of "transitional" smartphones that were supposed to live half a year before the 2013 line, which should be announced at MWC 2013 later this month. The situation was aggravated and made even more confusing by the division into models with one and two SIM-cards, popular in Asian, underdeveloped and other non-operator markets, such as the CIS market. Desire C, Desire V, Desire SV and now Desire X. And this is despite the presence of a mass of models with mysterious indices VC, VT, VX and U not represented in our country. And then there is the One line with the ST, SC, U and SV indices (the latter will appear with us very soon). It is no wonder that buyers and ordinary sellers get confused (and in the company itself, it seems that people themselves are not able to explain what the difference is and why, in fact, such a separation is needed - I have never met HTC's official position on this matter anywhere).

The HTC Desire X model is a hardware copy of the Desire SV already known to us, but instead of a weak 8-megapixel camera, they put a weak, although not so hopelessly, 5-megapixel one. In the HTC line, it occupies an intermediate position between the bestseller HTC One V and its update - HTC One SV. At the same time, Desire X uses the design of the back cover, borrowed from HTC Desire V. Such is the parsley, the roots of which lie in a not entirely clear desire to expand the line to infinity with relatively modest development resources. HTC's recipe for today's mid-range smartphones looks like a menu constructor in a pizzeria: we take this processor, attach this camera, use the current version of the HTC Sense interface and design from such and such a model. We season with naming from the Latin alphabet with a connected random number generator - you're done. Accordingly, the review of such a “conveyor” model also looks like - all the components are already known to us and tested in other models (and are described in the corresponding reviews), it remains only to measure performance with essentially predictable results and the operation of the main systems - screen, camera, sound etc.

SpecificationsHTCDesireXand line neighbors

As I said, hardware HTC Desire X corresponds to HTC Desire SV (read its review). It has a Qualcomm MSM8225 dual-core processor with a clock speed of 1 GHz and Adreno 203 graphics, a 4-inch display with a resolution of 800x480 and a 1650 mAh battery. The camera differs (5 megapixels instead of 8) and the absence of a second SIM card.

The closest neighbors in the lineup are the HTC One V, HTC One SV, as well as the dual SIM Desire V (which is already reaching the end of its life cycle) and Desire SV.

Appearance

If you have read our review of HTC Desire V, you should already understand everything. I like the edge at the bottom edge of the screen, which allows you to control the device blindly, focusing on tactile sensations. The frame of the screen seems to be metal - I tried to scratch it, it didn’t work right off the bat.

The back contains a recognizable oval element with a camera, a backlight LED and a metal effect design with divergent concentric circles. At the bottom there is a block of speaker holes and a reminder of HTC's collaboration with beats audio (and, accordingly, a special sound mode in the player). It is worth noting the excellent material of the back cover - it is clear that they did not save money here, to the touch it most of all resembles the flagship HTC One X (we also have a review of it). It is not soft like soft touch, but very easy to clean - just run your finger (and, if necessary, rub). I don't think the lid's coating is scratch resistant, but it's just a lid.

Hardware controls are standard. It is worth saying that the microUSB socket is located on the left, and not on the bottom, but I can’t understand who such a solution can cause inconvenience. The power and volume keys are plastic and have a shallow travel. They are very responsive, a light touch is enough. At the same time, I don’t remember any accidental clicks (which, by the way, regularly annoy me in my Galaxy Note).

Inside, everything is exactly the same as in HTC Desire V. The lid is removed in the manner of galoshes (I remember that I first saw such a solution in HTC Wildfire) - it contains a recess enclosing the case from below. The power keys on the inside look like just strips of plastic, which, in fact, is surprising: it looks very cheap, but it works perfectly.

In the test sample, the lid creaked noticeably when the case was lightly squeezed. Personally, such trifles do not bother me, but there are a few users for whom this is critical. I don’t know, the point is that the sample was rather worn out or it’s a design problem - who cares, pay attention to this when buying and that’s it.

The circuitry of the insides allows you to remove the SIM card and memory card without turning off the phone (the battery does not need to be removed for this).

Screen

The display, in my opinion, does not differ at all from the display in Desire V, there has not been a special sun in our area in recent weeks, I am inclined to believe that it will be readable in the bright sun, but miracles should not be expected. The touch screen supports 4 fingers simultaneously.

Sound

Traditionally, the sound of HTC smartphones with beats audio technology (algorithm) evokes both positive and negative emotions. On the one hand, the algorithm really works (only in the player, not in the radio). And the sound of the speaker looks good (taking into account the Desire X price category, of course). On the other hand, why not include, if you really really want to focus on good sound, beats audio headphones in the kit?

Camera

I don't know if the problem is that there was a prototype in the hands, on which it is impossible to install commercial firmware, or these are the intrigues of incomprehensible journalists, but the HTC Desire X camera does not shine with results. Of course, I liked it more than in the Desire SV, in which it turned out to be disgusting in general (and why does it need 8 megapixels?) In clear weather, everything looks great. In cloudy - varying degrees of scall. But to shoot in a series (and I often do this, saving “film”, thank God, is not necessary for a long time, and poor quality can sometimes be compensated for by the number of photos, among which there may be a decent picture) I do not advise her to anyone. The camera chokes and starts shifting color layers or producing artifacts. Which, frankly, looks like an artificially created problem by the manufacturer, since HTC One V, with comparable system performance, scribbles like a machine gun (it's time to get acquainted with its review, if you haven't already) until the memory on the card runs out. Add to this the limitation in shooting video on a frame size of 800x480 pixels (One V has this figure at 1280x720), and it becomes clear that the word “progress” in the case of a smartphone of the “transitional period” looks like an empty sound.

The camera interface now has a "Group portrait" mode, in which the camera automatically tracks faces, then takes a series of frames and combines the most successful faces in the final picture (someone blinked, sneezed - we all know that this happens). In practice, the mode seems to work, but it does not leave the original images, so it is difficult to assess the quality of the automation in this case.

This is what the frame looks like when the camera chokes

You can see all the pictures in real resolution in a special gallery on the bag.

Performance

The performance level of HTC Desire X in synthetic tests predictably matches the performance of Desire SV. In the AnTuTu benchmark, this is 5680 points (for SV - 5230, for One V - 2622), in Vellamo - 1011 points (1056 and 1057 for SV and One V, respectively).

Battery Life

The most controversial indicator in the operation of smartphones in general and Android smartphones in particular, since it strongly depends on the use case. Desire X did not bring any surprises - at maximum load, it can work for 5-6 hours, depending on the brightness of the display. If you are afraid, for example, to use 3G and really want to extend your work time for a whole day, then you can easily achieve this. The recipe is simple - the main thing is to take your phone out of your pocket less, not use the Internet at all (or in doses - 5 minutes every two hours). But, in this case, the question arises - why then buy a smartphone?

Competitive environment

And here begins the most, in my opinion, interesting. Priced around $2500 online, the Desire X looks to be one of the best performance offerings in its class. But if you take a step to the side, it becomes no longer as solid as we would like. Take at least Huawei Ascend G500 Pro comparable in performance (we have a review of it), which has a higher screen diagonal (4.3 inches), a higher resolution (960x540 pixels), and an IPS matrix (albeit not the best). With comparable performance, the price is only 300 hryvnia higher. And if you pay extra 650, then you can take the excellent LG Optimus L9, which is better in all respects. Not to mention the interesting Acer Liquid Gallant Duo, which can be bought for the same 2500 hryvnia. True, it loses in the synthetic performance test, but in the browser benchmark it shows the same results. At the same time, HTC Desire X has no direct competitors, although in practice, most buyers will most likely consider Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 as a purchase. For fans of the HTC brand, I sincerely recommend either taking the HTC One V (better design, seriously better camera, slightly smaller screen size and lower performance). Or wait a couple of months for the first demand (and with it the price) to subside for the HTC One SV, which should be much more interesting than the Desire X.

In the dry matter

Technologically, HTC Desire X looks like a Desire SV with a single SIM-card in the case from HTC Desire V. Today, this is the best offer for 2500 hryvnias (if we talk about prices on the Internet). At the same time, if you like the HTC brand, I would advise or buy a more interesting HTC One V right today. Or, if there is an opportunity to wait a couple of months, then look at the HTC One SV. And if you don’t focus on the HTC brand, then I advise you to pay attention either to Huawei models that are comparable in price and capabilities, or to a completely good (and slightly more expensive) LG Optimus L9. This is exactly the case when it is better not to buy a good, in fact, phone due to the fact that this is a transitional model, the purchase of which can be disappointed after a few months, with the advent of more “tasty” new products.

3 reasons to buy HTC Desire X

  • good performance in its class;
  • cute design;
  • affordable price in every sense;

2 reasons not to buy HTC Desire X

  • a camera with serious flaws (children's video resolution and problems with continuous shooting);
  • a transitional model that loses to both its predecessor and the soon-to-be-released successor;

HTC Desire X is a kind of repetition for developers. In terms of hardware, it is an almost complete copy of the already well-known Desire SV. Although, of course, there are some differences. About what you can love or not love this device, we'll talk below.

Design

The appearance of Desire X is concise and attractive. The rear camera is framed by a beautiful metal frame with a colored insert. It immediately becomes clear that they did not save on hull materials. This is not soft-touch, but the tactile sensations are pleasant and any stains can be erased without problems.

The power button is located on the top end in the middle. There are no problems with reaching it with the index finger of the hand. But the fact that it is on the same level with the body is rather a minus. Finding it by touch is quite problematic. Volume keys, as always, on the right side. They are soft and responsive. In general, using a smartphone is really convenient. In the hand, he lies like a glove and does not strive to slip out.

Performance

Thanks to the Qualcomm MSM8225 dual-core processor and the rather powerful Adreno 203 graphics core, the phone does an excellent job with all the tasks that the modern user sets before it. The interface does not slow down, applications work quickly and smoothly. There are no problems with multitasking either. 768 megabytes of RAM is also a pretty good indicator for the budget class, although a gigabyte could be.

Your phone has 4 gigabytes of memory. Nothing special, but even without installing an additional memory card, the phone can be used almost without any restrictions.

The battery is not very happy - only 1650 mAh. But given the small display and average hardware power consumption, this is enough for a full day of active work. And if the smartphone is used only for calls and SMS, then two days for it is not a problem. Of course, we would like more, but we have no right to demand more for this money.

Much to the chagrin of many, the device only works with one SIM card. At the same time, we know that many budget phones, both from HTC itself and from other manufacturers, already have two slots for SIM cards. This is a significant disadvantage for many buyers.

Functional

In terms of picture quality, the display is not much different from the Desire V. In the sun, the image is visible, although not as good as we would like. Indoors, there are no problems at all. The sensor perceives the simultaneous touch of 4 fingers at once. Although we know that almost always a maximum of two is needed in a job. Well, let it be.

Beats Audio sound technology evokes both positive and negative emotions. The algorithm works really well, but high-quality headphones are not included in the kit. It seems nice that you can get great sound, but you don’t want to spend extra money on headphones.

The camera is clearly better than in the aforementioned Desire SV, although it also cannot boast of great success. With good lighting, you can get a really good shot, but in other cases it's better not to try. And if we also take into account the limitation of the video size of 800x480 pixels, then a number of claims to the camera appear. There is an option for a group portrait when automatic face recognition occurs, but the need for such a function is rather doubtful.

From buying this device, you can be "dissuaded" by its single-symbolism, a rather weak battery and an average camera. In all other respects, the HTC Desire X is an excellent model for the money. In the modern market of mobile gadgets, it is quite difficult to find a product of the same quality in this price segment. We definitely recommend the model for purchase to anyone who has a budget cut and there is no need to use the services of two mobile operators simultaneously.

It seems that the case materials are good, and the design is remarkable, but everything rested on a rather modest filling. And using a beautiful, but at the same time not very fast smartphone is not very pleasant. Especially when there is a real abundance of affordable Android devices on the market for a reasonable price.

HTC is developing a line of mid-range gadgets, Desire V positions are reinforced by Desire SV, which works noticeably faster than previous models (the new processor affects). Let's not forget about the One V, which will soon turn a year old - a replacement will come in handy. The answer to the wishes of buyers will be HTC Desire X, demonstrated at the IFA exhibition last fall in Berlin.
The phone offers a 4-inch WVGA screen, 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, Android 4.0.4 paired with HTC Sense. Now he has a 2-core 1-GHz processor, 768 MB of RAM, 4 GB of its own, as well as a slot for memory cards. The battery capacity is typical for a middle-class device and is 1650 mAh.

Design

There is nothing new in the appearance of the smartphone, it looks like an exact copy of HTC Desire V, which appeared six months ago. The advantage of the model lies in its small size, which will suit a variety of users. They are 118.5x62.3x9.3 mm, weight 114 g.

From non-separable cases, HTC is returning to devices with a removable back cover. It is made of plastic, and if Desire V has black or white plastic, then white and blue are offered here.

The lid is very thin, similar solutions have already been seen in smartphones, for example, from Samsung. But if the Koreans have a tight lid, then here, after some time after using the device, it starts to creak.

The front panel is made of glass, surrounded by a silver aluminum edging, which has a curved shape characteristic of HTC products at the bottom of the case. The protrusion is not so large as to create inconvenience, but at the same time, it has a positive effect on ergonomics and makes it more convenient to hold the smartphone in your hand. It's nice when design ideas are combined with practicality.

Above the screen are the earpiece, which in Desire X received a different shape - it is made in the form of many dots. There is a proximity sensor, a light indicator, and a sensor for automatically adjusting the backlight.

To control the device are three touch buttons: back, home, task manager. The place chosen is convenient, it is equally easy to reach any of them. There is a backlight that is especially visible when there is no external light. Also, at the request of the user, you can activate the vibration, which will be triggered when you touch one of the keys.

The microphone is located on the bottom end closer to the left side.

The screen lock key is located on the upper end exactly in the middle, here it is in place, but the shape is unsuccessful, it is difficult to grope, almost flat and with a small stroke. There is also a universal 3.5mm headphone jack.

The data cable is connected on the left, the same microUSB is used for the charger.

On the right is a large volume button with a slurred move.

The entire rear panel is made of a single piece of plastic, which has a pleasant velvety surface, as well as the original blue color. Smartphones of this color are rare.

The insert with the camera module and flash is enclosed in a bright frame.

The smartphone has a standard size SIM card, it lies opposite the microSD slot. The battery is located to the side, so you do not need to restart the phone to quickly remove the card.

Screen

The smartphone uses a screen made using Super-LCD technology with a resolution of 480x800 pixels and a diagonal of 4 inches. The automatic brightness sensor works well, as well as the proximity sensor that blocks the screen during a call.

The capacitive display is covered with Gorilla Glass, which prevents scratches and scuffs. The backlight supply is enough for the room, on the street problems can arise only in very bright light.

The picture is nice, the colors are natural. In the examples, HTC is presented next to the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini, which is equipped with a Super AMOLED screen. The difference is especially noticeable when viewed from an angle: Samsung does not change colors, black is better transmitted.

Platform

The smartphone uses the new 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM 8225 Snapdragon processor, Adreno 203 graphics chip, 768 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory. Of these, only 1 GB remains for the user. There is also a slot for a microSD card, where you can install a drive up to 32 GB. As a bonus, 25GB of Dropbox storage is included. The performance is at a high level, the model came as close as possible to the One line, there is no longer any delay when switching between applications or in the browser, the phone pleases with response and smooth operation. The Sense shell, which consumes quite a lot of system resources, behaves very well in this case.

Interface

At the top of the screen is a service line, which displays the time, battery charge, signal reception level indicator. Active connections and other data are also displayed there. By clicking on the line, you will learn more about what programs have been downloaded, what messages and letters have been received, or what files have been received via Bluetooth.

From here, the line was removed from the menu of running applications and the management of some functions assigned to shortcuts. But there was a button that takes you to the settings menu. And already there, certain tasks are enabled or disabled. A separate menu will indicate information about occupied and free memory.

On each of the working areas, you can place several widgets, it all depends on their size. Application shortcuts and folders are also added. But in general, the set of widgets is not as rich as in the more expensive models of the One line.

During the selection of graphics, a set of desktops is displayed at the top of the screen, and a list of available elements is displayed at the bottom, from where you can transfer the desired element to one of these zones.

In total, five desktops are obtained, their number cannot be reduced, unlike older models. Also, 3D was missing when moving between tables and animation on the lock screen.

As before, HTC pays great attention to the personalization of the smartphone. To do this, a separate section of settings is allocated, where you can select the design plot, cover, set a background image. A picture is any image from the device's memory. There are no live wallpapers. The basic equipment includes 3 covers and 1 plot, and when you want something new, you can visit the company store, where you can easily find a stylish design.

At the bottom of the main screen, a line of five shortcuts is displayed: calls, mail, menu, messages, camera. All of them, except for the menu, are customizable: their order is changed, more pressing tasks are set instead of standard functions. On the lock screen, you can see the name of the operator, time and date. Four icons will appear at the bottom. Under them is a metal ring, but only part of it is visible. If you drag the virtual part up, the display will be unlocked. It looks very impressive. If earlier shortcuts on this screen were set manually, now they duplicate those that are placed on the main screen in the menu.

The menu consists of application icons that are arranged in alphabetical order. 20 icons are displayed on one screen, zones with labels scroll left or right with smooth animation. Sorting by date is also enabled: the newest or oldest are selected as a priority for the list to be formed. Separate buttons highlight independently installed programs and frequently used applications. The tab at the top helps you access settings, the search function, and go to the app store.

The selected key launches a menu of running tasks, which are displayed in the form of vertical thumbnail panels of open windows.

Phone book

The general list shows the stored contacts, both in the memory of the phone and SIM cards, as well as data from the Google account and social networks, which can be combined into one contact. There is a function for selecting the necessary data, which will hide unnecessary information.

When creating a new contact, the user is provided with a variety of information. This includes various types of phone numbers, email addresses, quick communication tools (AIM, ICQ, Gtalk, Skype and others), residential addresses and other information (nickname, birthday, automatically added to the calendar, note). There is a search among contacts by the first letters of the first or last name.

If you click on the place reserved for the picture for the subscriber, a quick menu is called up, with the help of which a message is sent, mail, and a phone call is made to the selected person. You can also contact him using contact details from social networks. Numbers can be assigned to different groups, which are given an individual signal.

If you select a contact from the existing ones, a window opens with the fields assigned to it. Here you will see the picture, contact numbers, social network data and other specified information. You can go to the gallery, which will show the user's pictures uploaded to Facebook. The log will display the history of calls, messages, and email communications.

Calls

Directly from the phone book, you can access the call log - it is highlighted in a separate tab. There is a single list of dialed numbers, received and missed calls. All telephone conversations are included in one list. Here you can display incoming, outgoing or missed calls.

Dialing is carried out using a convenient virtual keyboard. When viewing the call history, you can not only make a telephone conversation with the selected subscriber, but also send him an SMS or an e-mail from this list without going to another menu. While entering numbers, the phone automatically matches suitable contacts by selecting from the numbers stored in its memory or by starting a search by name. The phone has a speed dial, you can assign up to 8 numbers to the numeric keys.

Messages

For SMS and MMS, there is a shared folder where received messages go. When sending, by adding various objects to the SMS, you can automatically convert it to MMS. Messages are grouped by recipients in the conversation feed. The search inside the message archive works. When dialing a subscriber's number, the phone displays a list of matching numbers in alternating digits.

The device can copy, cut and paste text. Font size is set in messages: small, medium, large, extra large. The received text can be forwarded to another number, moved to a SIM card, added to the calendar as a task, or blocked from receiving messages from this number in the future. The option of archiving messages is provided, sorting by date, name works.

Predictive input is available when word correction and auto-completion systems help you type text, allowing you not to waste time correcting mistakes. You can type text without lifting your finger from the screen, the smartphone will automatically substitute the appropriate words. Voice typing is also well implemented. The keys are large, pressing is accompanied by a pleasant vibration feedback, which can be turned off.

Email

Various files from the device's memory are attached to the new letter. The function of text copying and automatic checking of the mailbox works (the interval is set manually). Mail is sorted by date, subject, sender and size. The phone perfectly understands various encodings, supports downloading attachments in familiar formats.

The name of the selected folder is indicated at the top of the section. Below is a description of the letter with the sender's data, subject and part of the text contained in it. If there is an attachment, it will be marked with an icon. The search works, the font changes, and a signature is added to the text, the synchronization period and sound notification parameters are set.

Camera

The smartphone has a 5-megapixel module with autofocus and LED flash. There is no quick launch button here, the easiest option is to use the shortcut on the lock screen to quickly start shooting.

The settings menu is called by the button on the left. At the top, flash options open, and at the bottom, shooting mode is activated. The general idea remains the same: the photo and video capture buttons are placed on the right, from here you can quickly go to the gallery or select effects.

Camera settings:

Scenes: auto, HDR, panorama, portrait, group landscape, whiteboard, close-up, low light.

Timer: 2, 10 seconds.

Photo resolution: 5M (2592x1952), 3M (2048x1536), 1M (1280x960), 0.3M (640x480 pixels).

ISO: auto, 100, 200, 400, 800

White Balance: Auto, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Daylight, Cloudy.

Face detection, auto smile detection, 4:3 widescreen, geotagging, grid activated, flash, shutter sound off.

The quality of the pictures is normal for its level, the focus works normally, the pictures are saved quickly enough. Sometimes there may be white balance errors, colors go into cold shades, but this does not happen often.

Video recording

Videos are created in MP4 format with stereo sound. Medium-level video, now 720p has become the norm for such devices, but here you have to be content with a more modest quality.

Video resolution: 800x480, 640x480, 320x240, 176x144 pixels.

Gallery

All images from the smartphone's memory fall into the general section of the gallery, where they are presented by folders. The gallery works in both portrait and landscape modes. You can select other criteria for viewing data by uploading images from Facebook, Flickr, Dropbox, Picasa, or Skydrive. Hidden albums are set in the settings, the existence of which will not be known to anyone except the owner of the smartphone.

While viewing files, a slide show is activated, which is complemented by musical accompaniment. The picture is sent to various social networks, storage, in a message or via Bluetooth. It is set as wallpaper, used for a contact, or added to a favorites list. The picture can be cropped or processed in the built-in photo editor with many preset effects.

Video player

Declared support for the following video formats: .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .wmv (Windows Media Video 9), .avi (MP4 ASP and MP3). The video is played in full screen, you can rewind using separate keys. You need to install a separate player in order to play all the videos for sure. The player remembers where the playback of clips in different files stopped. The player adjusts the brightness level, you can take a screenshot.

Player

When you open the player, which is highlighted in the menu with a bright red icon, you will notice several icons. The first one leads to the player itself. Also here is the SoundHound program, TuneIn Internet radio and 7Digital, which leads to the music store. Extra shortcuts are removed from here, and new ones are added from the menu. Thus, a separate group of all sound-related applications is obtained, which is quite convenient.

A little lower shows recently played songs, as well as information about the currently playing song. When you select a section with music in your phone, the player menu itself will open. It offers several criteria for sorting: albums, artists, songs, playlists, genres. In any case, the screen will display files that are clearly distinguished by covers and captions. Search and shuffle function works. At the same time, the search function among the library is also useful.

When you select the desired album, the following menu will open. In it you can see the cover, information about the number of tracks, genre, year. The song is sent to a playlist or other device. In another menu, a large list of additional actions is called up, where you can find not only information about the song, but also the ability to set it as a ringtone.

While playing songs, the screen shows the album, artist name, track title, duration and remaining time. Supports a convenient option to download covers, which helps to bring the album into a presentable form. The player works in both landscape and portrait modes.

By turning on sound enhancement through the Beats software option, you can notice how the sound changes when listening to different music genres. It works with any headphones connected to the smartphone. When listening to music with the keyboard locked, pressing the mechanical key will wake up the screen, then the display will show the player control menu and the album cover, if any. This is convenient and allows you not to go into the menu if you want to switch to another track. When the keyboard is locked, the volume in the player is adjusted using the side buttons. The smartphone plays music well, but this is not the level of the older models of the One line, it plays in headphones not so interesting.

Radio

The radio receiver is able to independently search for stations and store them in its memory. At the same time, you can make a list of your favorites and quickly switch between them. There is support for RDS, as well as a playback function through the phone's speaker. Stations in the phone memory can be renamed independently. There is a SoundHound search that works in radio or music player mode. It will help you quickly find detailed information about an interesting composition.

Browser

The browser works in both horizontal and vertical screen orientations. Thanks to the multi-touch, the pages are easily scaled, the browser interface itself is clear and convenient. At the top is the address bar, next to it is an icon, clicking on which adds the page to bookmarks. At the bottom of the screen, an additional menu is called in the form of a sliding panel that allows you to open new windows.

The browser supports the function of simultaneous work with several involved pages. You can switch between them, refresh the page, view bookmarks and perform some other options (search by text, view downloaded files, and others). While scrolling through the page, the address bar disappears, but while scrolling through the site, it may reappear. It is very convenient that when scaling pages, they adapt to the borders of the screen, they are pleasant and comfortable to view.

Organizer

The calendar is displayed as a month, a week, a single day, or a list of recorded events. The device can notify you about a calendar event with both a sound signal and a reminder in the service line. The notification time is configurable, it varies from 5 minutes to 1 week.

On your smartphone, you can configure which events to display on the calendar and which not. There is a separation of information by storage location, each option has its own color label. When creating a new entry, its name, date, place, repeat (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly) are specified. An alert signal is assigned for a certain period of time before the event, a description of this event. Sets the start day of the week.

Clock

The smartphone allows you to save several alarms in memory. The repetition is set both for 1 time and for every day, only on weekdays or weekly. The type of signal varies: melody or melody and vibration.

The function of world time, stopwatch and timer works.

The calculator works both in the vertical and horizontal position of the phone. By turning it on its side, a much larger number of functions are available.

Google Maps is used for navigation. The only drawback is that the program requires constant network activity, which affects the amount of traffic consumed by the device. Traffic jams are displayed, thus, the application has become full-featured and convenient not only for pedestrians, but also for car owners.

There is a function of determining the current location, calculating the route from the start to the end point, and you can set the method of movement: by car, on foot or by public transport. The route is laid on the map, while key places are indicated in the form of text messages that are displayed on the screen in the form of a column, you can switch between them: view the route in advance or vice versa, go back and lay a different path. Scaling works with multitouch. The Street View function helps you see pictures of the right place, which makes it much easier to find in unfamiliar places.

Applications

YouTube is a standard application for most modern devices that allows you to view videos and search among them. The application runs in full screen mode.

There is an application that combines weather data and a news feed.

Polaris Office helps you view various documents on your phone screen.

The flash works as a flashlight. It is launched by a separate application that allows you to vary the brightness level.

Access to Facebook is carried out through the application of the same name.

Sound Hound will allow you to determine the music that sounds nearby.

Google Talk - chat for communication.

Tasks are created with due date, repeat, reminder, and priority.

Connections

The phone works in GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and WCDMA 900/2100 MHz frequencies.

When connected to a computer using USB 2.0, the user can choose between several modes: charging only, data synchronization using HTC Sync, connecting as a storage device, accessing the Internet through the phone, connecting the phone to the Internet through the PC.

There is Bluetooth 4.0 with support for numerous profiles, including A2DP. Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n works well, it can remember the passwords of networks that were once entered, and automatically connect to them, being within their range.

There is a function with which the smartphone can be used as a network access point for other devices: a limit on the number of users is set, and the level of network protection is set by setting a password for access to it.

Battery

The power source is a replaceable battery with a capacity of 1650 mAh. Declared 20 hours of talk time and 750 hours of standby time. In the video playback mode at maximum brightness with working wireless modules, the charge was enough for 3.5 hours. It turned out even less than the Desire V. In general, you should count on a day of not very intensive use, and in a situation where you want to play games or often surf the Internet, you will have to charge your smartphone twice a day.

Impression

Speaker for conversations with a pleasant voice transmission, but a small margin in volume. The vibration signal is average in strength, it is not always felt. The ringtone is at an average level, in a noisy environment it can not be heard.

From HTC Desire X, I got something that was so lacking in previous models - speed. More precisely, Desire SV with two SIM-cards, which is now one of the most attractive solutions among products from famous brands, received the same stuffing. Having tested it, it was interesting to see the Desire X in action. The smartphone did not disappoint, it still works just as fast, the new processor and increased RAM allow you to live happily ever after. Although things are modest over time, and I would like to see more outstanding results.

I really liked the smartphone. Attractive design, quality materials, beautiful colors. If only the design of the lid could be improved, otherwise an unpleasant creak may appear over time, the plastic part is flimsy. A screen with an optimal diagonal of 4 inches is the golden mean, because not everyone is ready to use a device with a huge display. I would like to scold those who were responsible for the buttons: the screen lock key and volume control should be made more convenient. You can get used to it, but it is still strange that they did not pay special attention to them. Among other shortcomings, we note the lack of a front camera, someone may need it. The Android version is not the latest, but 4.0.4 is quite relevant, and paired with the Sense 4.1 shell looks even better.

For a model for 12-13 thousand rubles, the smartphone is not the most functional, but here, as before, the brand name means a lot, as well as a pleasant interface and general emotions. It is comfortable to use such a device, neat, solid, although not the cheapest gadget. A more modest analogue from Alcatel, Fly or Philips will cost 4 thousand less. But the decision is made by the buyer, if the model is pleasant, and there is enough money, then Desire X will not disappoint.

Display type: LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) - Liquid crystal displays. The very first displays used in mobile devices, and not only in phones. Their main feature is that they have very low power consumption, due to the inability to display a color image. They do not emit light and therefore phones are upgraded with backlight lamps. Some phones had several different backlight colors based on the presence of different LEDs around the perimeter of the display. This extraordinary solution was used, for example, in the Ericsson A3618 phone. Pixels are clearly visible on this type of display, and such displays cannot boast of high resolution. In order to prolong the life of such displays, they made them inverted, i.e. text and symbols were displayed not as filled pixels, but, on the contrary, inactive against the background of filled ones. Thus, the light text on a dark background turned out. Currently, this type of display is used in the cheapest budget models (Nokia 1112) and as an external display in some flip phones (Samsung D830).

TFT (Thin Film Transistor) - Liquid crystal displays based on active matrix thin film transistors. For each pixel there are three transistors corresponding to three colors (RGB - red, green, blue). At the moment, these are the most common displays that have a number of advantages over other displays. They are characterized by a minimum response time and rapid development - ever-increasing resolution and number of colors. These displays are most common in mid-range phones and above. Working resolutions for them: 128x160, 132x176, 176x208, 176x220, 240x320 and others less common. Examples: Nokia N73 (240x320, 262k colors), Sony Ericsson K750i (176x220, 262k colors), Samsung D900 (240x320, 262k colors). TFTs are very rarely used as external clamshell displays.

CSTN (Color Super Twisted Nematic) - Color liquid crystal displays with a passive matrix. Each pixel of such a display consists of three combined pixels, which correspond to three colors (RGB). Some time ago, almost all phones with color displays were based on this type. And now the lot of such displays is budget models. The main disadvantage of such displays is their slowness. The undoubted advantage of such displays is their cost, which is much lower than TFT. Based on simple logic, we can assume that in the future TFT will displace this type of display from the mobile device market. The evolution of the color of such displays is quite extensive: from 16 to 65536 colors. Examples: Motorola V177 (128x160, 65k colors), Sony Ericsson J100i (96x64, 65k colors), Nokia 2310 (96x68, 65k colors).

UFB (Ultra Fine and Bright) - Liquid crystal displays with increased brightness and contrast on a passive matrix. We can say that this is an intermediate option between CSTN and TFT. This type of display boasts lower power consumption compared to TFT. For the most part, such displays were used by Samsung in mid-range phones. This type of display is not widely used. Examples: Samsung C100/110 (128x128, 65k colors).

TN is one type of TFT screen matrix. Roughly speaking, TN are the simplest and cheapest TFT matrices. The viewing angles are the narrowest.
