Seven myths about energy consumption and saving. How to save energy An iron that saves energy

An iron is not a luxury, but a necessary thing in every home. That is why the owners and hostesses devote a lot of time and effort to choosing this device. After all, no one wants to go to work in an unironed shirt, trousers or dress, and a bad iron can break all of a sudden, or even worse, burn through your favorite thing. That is why, we have compiled a rating of the best models of 2017, and also give recommendations on choosing this good iron.

Which brand of iron is better?

One of the most important parameters in choosing a good iron is choosing the right brand. In our markets, imported companies are more popular, which have been producing devices for many years and value their reputation. Below we will consider the most popular brands among buyers.

Peculiarities: high-quality and reliable Steam Glide sole, which is not susceptible to scratches and other damage. Philips irons are also considered the safest.

Peculiarities: ceramic sole with the addition of various metals, which has a perfect glide on the surface.

Peculiarities: Famous German quality, good materials. Otherwise, they are in no way inferior to analogues.

Peculiarities: Equipped with textile protectors to protect delicate fabrics. Skillfully shaped irons help to quickly iron clothes.

How to choose a good iron for home?

First you need to decide on the type of iron. The choice between steam or conventional is no longer relevant, since the former are practically no longer produced, while the former are divided into 2 types: with a built-in or with an external water tank.

Steam stations (with an external water tank) are usually used in industries (studios and the like), so they are expensive, but they have a lot of power. A conventional steam iron is much cheaper and has enough power for home use.

Choosing a sole

This is the most important characteristic, on which the quality of ironing directly depends. The most popular sole materials at the moment are aluminum, cermet, stainless steel and teflon.

Aluminum mainly used in budget options. It is an inexpensive and relatively light material. Irons with this coating heat up quickly and glide well, but it is better not to use them on delicate items. Due to the fact that aluminum is a soft metal, damage quickly appears on it (scratches, notches, and so on).

The alternative is stainless steel. This material is much stronger than aluminum, so after ironing there are no marks and no scratches. But the weight of the device at the same time increases significantly.

Ceramics is a more modern material, therefore it can withstand any temperature conditions very well, is well suited for delicate fabrics and does not stick to clothes. The only drawback is the increased fragility.

Another modern sole material is teflon. It is used on expensive models, which should be especially good at smoothing rumpled things. But, like ceramics, Teflon is quite fragile, so you should avoid zippers, fasteners, and the like.

We select the required power of the device

There are several main groups into which irons are divided by power.

  1. < 1500 Вт - these are usually cheap models that are not designed for ironing thick fabrics (towel, bathrobe). Basically, this power is enough for camping irons.
  2. 1500 - 2000 W- most of the modern models can be attributed to this group. They will be able to cope with almost any type of clothing.
  3. > 2000 W- professional options, which are mainly used in production.

Additional functionality

Modern devices can be equipped with wide functionality, but in fact, out of all the functions listed in the specifications, you may need only a few.

The most useful features are:

  • Continuous steam. Pay attention to this characteristic, because the higher the value (can be from 10 to 150 g / min), the better things will be smoothed out.
  • Spray. If you need to wet things, then you need a sprayer.
  • Drop-stop system. Prevents the release of water droplets from the holes on the sole.
  • Auto power off. A very important parameter that can one day save from a fire in your house.

All other parameters are equally important, but you can easily do without them. You can see the detailed characteristics of the most popular models below.

1. Braun TexStyle TS785STP is the best model of 2017

With the Braun TexStyle TS785STP iron, you will surely forget about the problems that haunted you while ironing delicate fabrics. Special nozzles Textile Protector and Soft Textile Protector minimize the risk of sheen on black delicate fabrics, and cauterization of the fabric from high temperatures.

As for the soles, the manufacturer did not sell too cheap, and installed one of the highest quality soles in the world - Saphire. Compared to stainless steel (which is found on most irons), Saphire is 4 times stronger, scratch resistant and looks like new for a long time.

Braun TexStyle TS785STP can also be used for vertical steaming (mainly used for steaming curtains or clothes). Just press the “extra steam” button and a powerful burst of steam will be able to smooth out even the most difficult creases. A large water tank (400 ml) allows you to iron a large number of things without being distracted by “refueling” the iron.

The auto-off function will create the safest and most energy-saving conditions for ironing. In a horizontal position, the device turns off after 30 seconds, and in a vertical position after 8 minutes.

In general, this is a very powerful device (2400 W) made of quality materials. Overheating protection, anti-scale system, leakage prevention, high-quality coating, wide functionality - this is what distinguishes a really best iron from mediocre ones.

  • 2 additional nozzles for delicate fabrics
  • Quality sole
  • Steam is evenly distributed
  • Auto power off function
  • long cord
  • High price

2. Philips GC 4510/30 - faster, lighter and smarter

Another steam iron with a vertical steam function is the Philips GC 4510/30. Unlike the previous model, here the steam boost is a little more modest, it is 170 g / min, nevertheless, things on a hanger or curtains are steamed quite easily.

The ironing surface is made using the unique SteamGlide Plus technology. This is a ceramic sole that provides the best possible glide. Steam holes are located in those places that allow you to smooth out even hard-to-reach places on clothes.

The Philips Azur Performer spout is specially designed to reach the most hidden places on clothing. The pointed shape, the thin surface and the button hole allow you to iron even around the buttons. For quick and easy movement of the iron, the manufacturer has chosen the optimal weight, which allows you to iron and put the device on the board without much effort. Cleaning the device is as easy as using it. To remove scale, manufacturers have equipped the device with an automatic cleaning function, which allows you to keep the desired steam power at a high level.

Like all modern irons, Philips GC 4510/30 is equipped with an automatic shutdown function in case of real estate (it turns off after 5 minutes). All in all, a very good option for the money and the customer reviews of this product are mostly positive.

  • Reliable build
  • Weight only 1.45 kg
  • 300 ml water tank
  • High power, due to this fast heating
  • Automatic steam regulation

3. Bosch TDA 2325 - the best price / quality ratio

The most important part of an iron is the soleplate. The quality and results of ironing depend on it. Therefore, this is the first thing you should pay attention to when choosing the best iron for your home.

Bosch TDA 2325 is equipped with a ceramic coating that does not leave things shiny after ironing and does not scratch. This is a proprietary development called “Palladium-glissée”, which allows the sole to glide well over the fabric, regardless of what the clothes are made of. Steam holes are located in those places that will provide the most efficient steaming. The “nose” was made narrower so that hard-to-reach places (collars, pockets, buttons, etc.) could be reached.

Bosch also makes sure that their products do not fail after a few months of use. Special System 2 Anti Calc softens tap water by replacing negative calcium and magnesium ions with special granules. Thus, tap water can be poured into the Bosch TDA 2325 without damage to the iron. The special Self-clean function will remove the formed plaque on the dosing device. The manufacturer considered it necessary to equip the Bosch TDA 2325 with a vertical steam function. But with a steam boost power of 55g/min, it will take a long time to steam curtains or things, so buyers often complain about this feature.

Nevertheless, despite its minor flaws, the TDA 2325 is an excellent option for permanent use at home. Thanks to high-quality materials and Bosch quality, the device will serve you for a very long time.

  • You can not be afraid of scale
  • Heats up quickly
  • A light weight
  • Capacious water tank - 220 ml
  • Quality Palladium-glissée outsole
  • No "antidrop"

4. Tefal FV 3930 - a powerful device of European assembly

The French company Tefal also likes to please us with good irons with high-quality assembly. This time, the FV 3930 model got into our rating with vertical steam, self-cleaning function, automatic shutdown and much more.

The basis of this iron is the Durilium soleplate, which provides the most comfortable and easy sliding of the device over clothes. This is a ceramic-metal sole with special steam holes. These holes are positioned in such a way as to effectively cope with the most difficult folds. And in order not to damage delicate things with steam, automatic adjustment, depending on the temperature regime, will select its optimal amount. A narrow “nose” and a special groove for buttons allows you to get to the most secluded places (collars, pockets, buttons, and so on).

So that tap water does not affect the operation of the device in any way, the manufacturer provided for the presence of an anti-lime rod. Also, the long-term operation of Tefal FV 3930 is facilitated by the Anti Scale System anti-scale function and the self-cleaning function.

In general, this is a very high-quality model with a French assembly, which is equipped with all the necessary functionality for ironing clothes in both vertical and horizontal positions.

  • Powerful device, perfectly smooths out any bumps
  • Heats up quickly
  • glides well
  • Beautiful design
  • Button groove

5. Braun TS745A - with unique Eloxal sole

Do you want to buy a stylish iron with good functionality? Then pay attention to Braun TS 745 A. This model is equipped with a steam boost function (180/min), adjustable steam supply, anti-scale and anti-drip system.

The Eloxal outsole has an aluminum base that is highly durable and scratch resistant. In addition, it glides well on the surface of the fabric and does not leave shiny marks on it. The Braun TS745A also boasts a high power output of 2400W. Such power allows you to quickly heat the sole to the desired temperature, and effectively smooth out even the most wrinkled things.

Thanks to the steam boost function, you can smooth things without even removing them from the hanger. It can also be used on curtains, which are much easier to iron vertically than horizontally.

The “anti-drop” system will not allow a single drop of water to get on your clothes. This can be useful for delicate clothing that is usually very sensitive to dripping (e.g. silk). Automatic shutdown system will help save your nerves and apartment. If you forget to turn off the iron and go about your business, the iron will automatically turn off after 30 seconds, while being in a horizontal position. But this is a small minus of the device, you need to constantly make sure that the iron does not turn off during ironing, and once every 30 seconds put it in a vertical position, and this is not very convenient.

  • Powerful device
  • Large water glass
  • High quality vertical steam
  • Auto power off function
  • long cord
  • Humming while working

6. Tefal FV 9640 - patented scale collector

A feature of this model is the presence of a special collector for collecting scale. Thus, powerful steam supply remains to please you for many years. All the scale that has formed remains inside the iron, so cleaning it is also not difficult.

Otherwise, this is a powerful device for ironing even the most rumpled things. The power of this device is a record for our rating of 2600 watts. Auto-off will allow you to maximize the safety of using the device at home. If you forget to turn off the iron and go about your business, it will automatically turn off the power after a few minutes. Vertical steam is designed for fast and efficient ironing of things in a vertical position (on a hanger).

In general, Tefal FV 9640 copes well with any kind of fabric, which is why buyers highly appreciated the performance. Let's now take a closer look at the advantages and disadvantages of this model.

  • Comfortable in using
  • Auto power off
  • Heats up to desired temperature in less than a minute
  • Plaque protection rod
  • long cord
  • a bit heavy

7. REDMOND RI-C224 - with ECO function

Not every manufacturer cares about the utility costs of buyers. Manufacturers of REDMOND RI-C224 paid much more attention to this than their competitors.

The ECO function allows you to automatically set the balance between the heating temperature of the soleplate and the amount of water used to generate steam. Due to this, the sole cools down much more slowly, so much less electricity is spent on heating. In addition, there is protection against scale and leakage, a special ceramic coating provides good gliding on the surface of any fabric, as well as the ability to steam any thing in an upright position.

Otherwise, this is the most common iron, which is equipped with all the necessary functionality for comfortable use at home.

As users note, despite the presence of the “drop stop” function, water leaks noticeably when steaming. Be careful when choosing an iron with this feature.

  • Saves electricity
  • Auto power off
  • Large water tank - 300 ml
  • Ceramic sole
  • Water leaks while steaming

8. Philips GC 4924/20 - safe for all types of fabrics

This iron is equipped with all the necessary functionality for comfortable and fast ironing at home.

The first thing you should pay attention to is the OptimalTemp technology. It is designed to automatically adjust the temperature and steam power to create the most suitable conditions for ironing all types of fabrics. Now you can remove wrinkles from denim, silk, linen and so on without having to manually adjust the temperature.

The T-ionicGlide outsole is scratch resistant and glides perfectly on any surface. The steam holes, which are designed to quickly remove creases of any complexity, are evenly spaced for even distribution of steam over the entire surface of the ironed fabric. The special cleaning system prevents the creation of scale. Special capsules prevent the creation of plaque.

Leaving irons switched on can create a fire hazard. That is why the manufacturer has equipped Philips GC 4924/20 with circuit breakers (in a vertical position, a complete shutdown occurs after 3 minutes, and in a horizontal position after 2 minutes).

An iron is one of the most energy-consuming appliances in your home. It is much more powerful than a TV, vacuum cleaner, refrigerator, computer or microwave. Every time you iron, a lot of energy is consumed to heat up the iron, as well as to create the steam we need when ironing wrinkles and heavily wrinkled clothes.

This elegant and reliable iron reduces energy consumption by 25%. This is achieved through an automatic energy-saving mode, as well as through an ergonomic steam supply.

Stop throwing money away. Thrift is the key to a successful financial future. Start saving money now without changing your lifestyle.

Introduction

The problem of energy saving has become one of the most pressing problems in the world today. Many states have begun to bring measures to save electricity. In the Russian Federation, a decision was also made to switch to energy-saving technologies.

November 23, 2009 President of Russia YES. Medvedev signed the Federal Law "On Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency and on Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation".

Today, the state, commercial organizations, and individuals are engaged in saving electricity. Gradually, this work becomes an integral part of human life, because energy sources run out, and new sources of electricity are not yet used to the full extent of their forces.

Big things start small. The same is true for energy saving. The energy saving potential in the home can be judged by the use of electrical appliances, in particular electric irons. In this regard, I conducted a special study on the effectiveness of the use of electric irons in the home to identify additional opportunities to save energy and reduce emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere.

The data obtained provide grounds for meaningful propaganda work among the population, to demonstrate the possibilities and prospects for using an energy-saving approach in everyday life.

This approach to understanding the possibilities and prospects for the introduction of energy-saving technologies in the life of the population determined the goal, object and subject of our study.

History of the iron

Electric irons are the most common electric heating device. According to the information that has come down to us from the depths of centuries, for about 2500 years, mankind has been trying to iron their clothes in different ways!

The historical past of the iron is a long way from a heavy stone to a modern electric device with a steam function and adjustable heat. It is known that the ancient Aztecs spread their clothes on a flat surface, pressed down with a stone from above and left it under this pressure. In the 4th century BC. The ancient Greeks used hot metal rods to pleat their linen garments. In the 8th century in Europe, special ironing stones in the form of mushrooms were used. They laid out cloth on them and beat it with sticks. And in Rus', from time immemorial, they stroked with a rolling pin and a rubel (Fig. 1). Linen was wound on a rolling pin and rolled with a ribbed rubel. The real prototype of the iron was a frying pan with coals.

But the first irons appeared only in the 14th century. In the middle of the 18th century, a coal steam iron appeared, which was heated by hot coals placed in it. From above, for better traction, a pipe was installed from which smoke came out. On the sides of the iron, special holes were made to provide access for combustion air. Some Russian irons were made with a double bottom: the ash is easy to pull out, and the sole heats up more evenly (Fig. 2).

In the 19th century alcohol iron appeared. Alcohol was poured into the device, then it was set on fire. Thus, the surface was heated (Fig. 3). Alcohol in those days was in short supply, so the cost of the iron was incredibly high. It was because of the high cost that the iron did not take root in the household of the villagers for a long time.

And here it is! At the beginning of the 20th century (1903), inventor Earl Richardson demonstrated his new invention - a lightweight electrically heated iron. The heater in it was an electric spiral placed inside (Fig. 4).E. Richardson convinced several housewives to try out his new invention. The experiment was a success. Guided by his wife's opinion that the first model was too hot in the middle and not hot enough at the point, Richardson created a more advanced model of his iron, and in 1905 she was in extraordinary demand. Thus began the modern era of improving the electric iron!

Efficient use of electric irons

In the course of the study, I used electric irons of the following brands: Vniir, Polaris, Scarlet, Raketa, as well as a multi-tariff active energy meter SEO 6005, 1 set of bed linen (1 duvet cover, 1 sheet and 1 pillowcase) to measure electricity consumption.

It has been found that not all irons consume under the same conditionsthe same amount of electricity that the efficiency of the iron depends on its power, the surface area of the sole and on the material of its manufacture.

Based on the experimental data, it was found that the most effective of the studied irons is the Raketa brand iron.

Based on this, an experiment was conducted to compare the consumption of electricity when using steam when ironing bed linen and without using steam.

Table number 2

modes with steam and without steam

As can be seen from table No. 2, it is of great importance in which mode to work with an electric iron, since the time and energy costs are significant.

Let's compare the data of two irons for the subsequent calculation of profitability.

Table #3

Comparative table of irons with different energy consumption.

If we calculate the savings in electricity and finances for a resident of an urban settlement of the Irkutsk region, then the savings in money in the family will be 4.1 rubles.

Thus, we got that in everyday life, even in the process of ironing only bed linen, you can save electricity.

During the experiment, it was found that energy costs can be reduced by another 69 watts per ironing process, if the ironing method itself is effectively approached. Namely:

Pre-fold the linen as it will be laid out during the ironing process;

Do not overdry the laundry so as not to use the steam mode, and if this happens, then it can be sprinkled with water before ironing, and not during, which will save both ironing time and energy, especially if your iron does not have a steam mode. ferry;

Before the iron is fully heated and after the ironing process itself, you can iron small items that do not require a high heating temperature of the iron.

An important role is played by the speed of ironing. Obviously, the faster the pace of ironing, the less time is spent, and thus less energy is wasted.

Conclusion

Summing up the results of the study, it should be noted that not all irons consume the same amount of electricity under the same conditions, that when using an iron in the process of ironing bed linen, it is possible to additionally save electricity in everyday life, namely: 4968 W. h energy, 2.90 rubles and approximately11 hours of work per year. The effect may be small, but big things start small!

If, when buying an iron, all the parameters and requirements that determine its effectiveness are taken into account, then the ironing process will cease to be torture, and when working with it, you can get, if not pleasure, then at least complete satisfaction, saving both time and money and natural resources.

There is an opportunity for energy saving in every house, in every apartment in every family. Energy-saving measures really allow you to save energy, are the key to improving the standard of living. These activities do not require material costs and depend only on the personal awareness and interest of people. Energy saving can be considered a new source of energy.

Thrifty irons

Consumers of household appliances in recent years have begun to pay attention not only to the appearance and functionality of the purchased product, but also to think about how much they will have to pay for the electricity that this product consumes. True, this applies most of all to the residents of the European Union, who pay close attention to what equipment they use. Because their electricity bill directly depends on it. "Of course, innovative solutions are always more expensive than those that correspond to the current state of technology. But nevertheless, people are willing to pay extra for having a modern device that does its job as well as traditional ones, but in fact, invest in reducing their costs in the future."

Different household appliances consume electricity in different ways. The biggest energy consumption of the refrigerator. Refrigerators and freezers consume more electricity in a household than other household appliances because they run continuously. They account for an average of 33% of household electricity consumption. Therefore, manufacturers pay great attention to refrigeration equipment. For example, some companies use plastic in the production of refrigeration units, which reduces the thermal conductivity of the refrigerator body. It is used by almost all major global manufacturers of household appliances. Further technologies that operate in the complex come into play, for example, electronic separate control of the refrigerator and freezer compartments, NoFrost technology, which saves electricity by preventing the formation of ice in the freezer. Manufacturers are trying to make the compressor powerful, but economical.

Washing machines consume the most energy when heating water. Therefore, some manufacturers have developed such models of washing machines that can be connected directly to hot water. That helps to save up to 72% of electricity compared to appliances designed to supply only cold water (washing at a temperature of 40 degrees). In addition, the automatic load sensor provides exactly the amount of water needed to achieve the best washing result - thus reducing energy consumption.

Dishwashers are becoming more and more popular in Russia, and it turns out they are more economical than washing dishes by hand. Modern automatic programs that dishwashers are equipped with independently control the amount of water, its temperature and cycle time, depending on the degree of soiling of the dishes. Compared to 1990, daily electricity consumption has decreased by 79% in refrigerators, by 75% in freezers, and by 61% in refrigerator-freezer combinations.

The most difficult thing is to control the energy efficiency of electric stoves, since the energy consumption in this case mainly depends on the user. But despite this, modern electric stoves, according to WWF, are 30% more economical than old electric floor stoves. Efficiency is achieved through the use of sophisticated technologies, such as sensors that maintain the right temperature for cooking, which saves energy. And some stoves are able to recognize whether there is a dish on the burner, determine the diameter of its bottom and, in accordance with this, adjust the area of \u200b\u200bthe heated surface. Such a stove also helps to save electricity. Well, if we talk about smaller household appliances, then the vacuum cleaner consumes the most electricity.

Everyone is also aware of the high energy consumption when using electric kettles and irons. However, manufacturing companies can now offer these devices in an energy-saving modification. Philips, for example, has released two models of kettles designed specifically for economical and efficient use of water.

Both kettles use a flat heating element that heats water quickly - for example, it takes less than 45 seconds to heat one cup. In addition, the new teapots have a universal indication of cups, so now you can always brew tea for the right number of people. All this helps to avoid re-boiling water and reduce energy costs by 20%.

Thanks to the innovative dual-filter anti-limestone filter, which prevents scale particles from entering the drink, the new Philips kettles ensure that the water is perfectly pure.

The body of the novelties is made of polished steel and always remains cold, while the design of the teapots takes into account a variety of tastes. With a steel body, the new Philips kettles are strong and durable, non-slip feet and a 360-degree pirouette stand ensure the appliances are safe and stable on any surface.

As for irons, Philips has a range of EnergyCare appliances that can save up to 20% energy while caring for clothes. The new series demonstrates that caring for the environment can be effective and cost-effective. Thanks to the new irons, even the most complex fabrics will be ironed perfectly, while the family budget will not suffer at all.

Up to 90% of the energy consumed by an iron is used to provide continuous steam flow. Steam is only needed during ironing, so extra energy is often wasted. By using steam only when you need it, EnergyCare irons can help you save up to 20% on your energy bill for great results.

The secret to saving energy lies in the automatic energy saving function, which can be activated by pressing the handle of the iron. When the appliance is turned on but not moving (raised up or just resting on the surface of the ironing board), steam production will automatically stop, resulting in less energy consumption.

With an efficient steam boost of 100 g/min, the EnergyCare irons quickly and easily smooth out clothes, removing even the most stubborn creases and creases. The new models also feature an improved SteamGlide soleplate, a soft handle and a large water container (300 ml) - all this makes the process of caring for clothes as easy as possible, and the patented Steam Tip ensures perfect smoothing of the most hard-to-reach places. The drip-stop system and the Double Active Calc anti-calc system prevent stains. The flagship model of the GC3660 line is equipped with an automatic shutdown system, which will allow you not to worry that the iron is not turned off from the network.

EnergyCare irons are just as easy to use as other Philips irons, but the savings on energy costs will be tangible. The energy that the iron will save for a year is enough to light 35 40W bulbs for each ironing session.

"Today, the list of energy-saving devices is not limited to lamps and small household appliances," Eldorado told BG. According to them, such technologies are implemented in a variety of techniques. For example, LED TVs, thanks to diode backlighting, consume much less electricity than LCD and plasma counterparts. In addition, the lifespan of LEDs is three times longer than previous generation TVs. The new Siemens refrigerators are produced using the latest energy-saving technologies and consume 289 kWh per year, while other models with equal dimensions can consume up to 365 kWh per year. Soon "Eldorado" will have a novelty for the Russian market - Panasonic washing machines. They can rightly be called "green" technology of the new generation. Washing 7 kg of laundry consumes only 1.04 kW, which looks more than worthy against the background of the closest analogue (1.19 kW).

The purchase of an iron should be approached carefully. The neatness of our belongings and, as a result, our everyday image depends on its impeccable work. First you need to decide on the company. The stores sell both expensive models with promoted brands, as well as models of little-known manufacturers.

The choice remains with the buyer. However, you should not skimp. Well-established firms try to keep the brand. This, although small, is a guarantee that the purchased item will last a long time.

Among the leaders this year are Philips, Tefal, Bosch, Braun, Rowenta. The only thing that can stop when buying these models is their price. She stays high all the time. You always have to pay for quality. However, do not be upset. There are also inexpensive samples in our stores. They are slightly inferior to the leaders in terms of parameters, and the price may well suit a budget buyer. Here is their list: Vitek, Polaris, Scarlett.

The sole of the iron matters

Definitely, the sole must be flawless. The quality of ironing will subsequently depend on its properties. The main requirement for the sole is slip. Your energy reserve and energy savings depend on the ease with which the iron will move through things. Another important requirement: the material from which the surface of the iron is made must not leave stains on clothes. Manufacturers are constantly improving and modernizing their products. Perhaps not all housewives know that there are several types of iron soles. Let's consider them in order.

  • Aluminum outsole. This material has three advantages: it is inexpensive, heats up immediately, and if something sticks to the surface during ironing, it will be easy to clean. There are also downsides. Aluminum deforms over time from high temperatures, and the smooth surface is quickly covered with scratches.
  • Stainless steel sole. Such a sole is durable, in addition, it does not scratch, does not rust and has good glide.
  • Ceramic sole. Great option. It glides well on the surface of any canvas. With this modern coating, the thin fabric is protected from sticking. Linen irons flawlessly. However, the coating must be treated with care. At the slightest impact, it can burst or break off.
  • Titanium surface. Titanium, or rather, its coating, has practically no complaints. This is one of the latest developments. The only negative: long cooling and non-budget price for an iron.
  • Teflon surface. Teflon is a decent option, providing flawless ironing. Only the price range can stop the purchase.

Power of the device in watts

The main requirement for choosing an iron should be power, which directly affects the quality of ironing and speed. Everything here will depend on your needs. To make it easier, we divide these indicators into three parts.

  • An iron with a rated power of only 1300-1600W can meet the needs of a single person or a family of two. This option is also useful for those who travel often because of their low weight.
  • For a large family or people who like order in everything, the best option is suitable - an iron of medium power - 1600-2000 watts. Samples with such indicators will well iron both thick jeans and a shirt made of thin fabric.
  • A model with a power of 2000-2400 W and above is usually used by professionals: laundresses, tailors, owners of small hotels. But there are housewives who love perfectly ironed sheets and towels. Then this choice is for you.

The higher the power, the more the iron will consume electricity. Therefore, economical housewives should take this factor into account. First of all, everything will depend on how much time you spend ironing things. The more the device works, the more electricity is consumed. For example, an iron with a power of 1600 W will consume 1.6 kilowatts in one hour. Therefore, with an iron with a power of 2200 W, 2.2 kW will be consumed per hour of ironing.

If the issue of consumption worries you very much, then before buying, calculate the consumption option that is right for you. However, it is not worth dwelling on this issue. Irons are not among those appliances that consume an insane amount of electricity. It is better to pay attention to other aspects.

Working mode

The operating mode of the electric iron is no less important for the parameters that you choose. For the convenience of ironing various types of fabrics, a special temperature indicator is needed. Therefore, various modes are set in irons, which are regulated using a dial or a button. A large number of modes guarantees the quality of ironing.

Spray function

It makes it possible to moisten the fabric during ironing. Moisture enters through the atomizer. Thanks to this feature, you no longer need to manually apply water to the "capricious" fabric to iron it.

Steam function

This is a required feature. It is carried out through small holes made in the sole of the iron. Lots of holes - excellent steam supply. When choosing a model, make sure that there are enough of them in the thin part of the iron. The quality of ironing in the hard-to-reach part of things will depend on this. Steam supply greatly facilitates the process. Consider one more nuance: spend a lot of steam - fill in more water. Therefore, when buying, consider the size of the flask. The larger it is, the better.

Steam boost is another necessary function, in which steam is supplied under high pressure. The more powerful the steam supply, the better the fabric will be ironed in a hard-to-reach place. If your iron has a “vertical steam” function, then it might be better to choose this model. This feature allows you to easily put in order any thing right on the hanger. Ironing curtains will no longer cause you trouble. It is enough to hold the steam on the fabric and it will acquire a presentable appearance.

All of the above functions will work flawlessly if the iron has a high power. The larger it is, the more likely it is that steaming will be effective. However, you need to consider: models where steam supply and vertical steaming are actively used are quite heavy. They usually have a large water tank. This is the weighting agent. If that doesn't scare you, then feel free to buy one.
