How to get rid of the flu folk remedies

The winter season rarely passes without colds and flu. Influenza is an infectious disease that is transmitted by airborne droplets. You can catch the flu at work or school, on public transport and even in the store. The common cold is often referred to as the flu, but that's not entirely correct. Influenza is much more difficult, its consequences are much more dangerous. If the flu is left untreated, it can lead to serious complications and even death. But how do you know if you have the flu and not just a common cold?

How to tell a cold from the flu

  1. Influenza at the very beginning of the disease is manifested by high fever. With SARS, the temperature rises gradually, slowly, over several days. Influenza is characterized by a sharp increase in body temperature to 38-39 degrees, which is poorly reduced by antipyretics, especially in children.
  2. With influenza, the strongest intoxication of the body is felt in the first days of the disease. A person feels weak, experiences body aches, pain in the pupils, chills and muscle pain. With a cold, the symptoms are not so pronounced.
  3. Usually, with the flu, a runny nose either does not appear at all, or appears on the second or third day. With a cold, it immediately stuffs up the nose, itches in the throat, a flow from the nose appears. With the flu, the eyes turn red; with a cold, this rarely occurs.
  4. Almost always, the flu is accompanied by disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. The flu goes away with diarrhea, vomiting, nausea. A cold does not have these symptoms.
  5. The duration of illness with influenza is quite long. A common cold goes away in seven days. With influenza, the temperature lasts about 4-7 days, and after 10 days there is a noticeable improvement in the patient's condition. And a few weeks after the illness, a person may feel a residual feeling of malaise.

Now that you have been able to distinguish the flu from SARS, you need to urgently see a doctor. The doctor will prescribe the necessary treatment, which can be supplemented with folk remedies to speed up recovery. Self-medication for influenza is not recommended and even dangerous.

Usually the doctor prescribes antiviral and immunomodulatory drugs. Along with this, treatment of symptoms is carried out, that is, sprays and drops to ease breathing, gargles for sore throats, cough syrups. When the temperature rises, antipyretics are prescribed. In addition to the medicines prescribed by the doctor, several rules must be observed in order to alleviate the patient's condition and bring his recovery closer.

  1. With the flu, a pastel regimen is required. Take sick leave and don't go to work. Even after relief came, the temperature subsided, you should try to lie down and not get out of bed.
  2. Drinking mode. This is one of the main conditions for recovery. You need to drink a lot and often. It is better to drink warm or hot liquid. Together with water, the infection is excreted from the body. We need to drink enough to restore water balance, because during illness we sweat a lot.
  3. The patient should not be forced to eat. Caring grandmothers persuade the little patient to eat at least a little, “so that they have the strength to fight the disease,” but this is fundamentally wrong. Doctors say that during an illness, all the forces of the body are thrown into the fight against infection, it does not need an additional load in the form of digestion of food. Therefore, if a person with the flu does not want to eat, do not insist on eating.
  4. It is necessary to provide the room with moist air so that viruses do not linger in the room. Ventilate the room so that the patient can breathe easier.

How to treat the flu folk remedies

  1. If you feel an impending illness, you need to warm a third of a glass of milk, put 10 drops of garlic or onion juice there and drink it before going to bed. If you drink this remedy every day for 2-3 days, the disease will recede before it starts.
  2. Mix cognac with milk in equal proportions, heat the liquid and drink it. This is a great remedy for the flu.
  3. If the patient does not have a high temperature, he can smear his chest with fir oil or badger fat. This will ease the course of the disease and prevent the development of cough.
  4. Raspberries are an excellent remedy for colds and flu. Tea with raspberry jam lowers the temperature and increases sweating. No less useful is a decoction of raspberry leaves and stems. Young stems and leaves should be poured with boiling water and insisted for about an hour. Then drink the strained broth in half a glass 3-4 times a day. Raspberries will alleviate the condition of the patient and increase his immunity.
  5. Another popular and effective remedy is tea with lemon and honey. It is rich in vitamins, which are so necessary during illness.
  6. To facilitate breathing and clear the nasal and oral cavity of germs, you need to do inhalation. To do this, prepare a strong decoction of calendula and add a few drops of garlic or onion juice to it. Pour the decoction into a basin and cover with a towel. Breathe alternately through your nose and mouth to completely clean the airways with antibacterial vapors.
  7. Pine buds can help relieve flu symptoms. A tablespoon of pine buds should be poured with a glass of boiling water and boiled in a water bath. Then you need to strain the broth and drink two tablespoons 3-4 times a day.
  8. An excellent remedy is a honey-cranberry drink. Pour boiling water over a tablespoon of cranberries, a teaspoon of honey and a slice of lemon. Stir and drink this drink several times a day - it will quickly put you on your feet.
  9. In the villages with colds and flu were treated as follows. First, a person needs to be thoroughly steamed in a bath. This is an excellent remedy for flu, but you can’t visit the bath with a high temperature. After the patient has taken a steam bath, the legs should be smeared with garlic, put on woolen socks and go to bed. By the way, in the villages, the main point of treatment was a glass of vodka after a steam room.

Get rid of flu symptoms

Often, it is not the disease itself that worries us, but its symptoms. So, if you are tormented by a runny nose, you need to breathe in pairs of onions - just leave the chopped onion on the bedside table. You can also soak cotton balls in garlic juice and put them in your nostrils for a while. This will free the breath. It is very useful to do inhalations with Asterisk balm.

Decoction of licorice root will help to cope with a cough. It will relieve dry cough and improve sputum discharge. Mustard plasters can be applied to the back and chest or simply warm the chest with an iodine net.

If your throat hurts, you need to do regular rinses. The easiest way is sea water. In a glass of warm water, you need to dilute a teaspoon of soda, a pinch of salt and five drops of iodine. You can gargle with a decoction of calendula, chamomile or diluted aloe juice.

At high temperatures, you need to drink an antipyretic, but if it is not at hand, the following measures must be taken. Wipe the person with a weak vinegar or alcohol solution, especially the palms, feet, temples, armpits. Provide the patient with plenty of fluids.

Flu Prevention

The issue of influenza prevention is very relevant, especially in the autumn-winter period.

  1. Young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems are not recommended to visit crowded places. Especially during a flu epidemic.
  2. When you come home from the street, be sure to wash your hands with soap and teach your children to do the same.
  3. If you go to a clinic or any other place where you can catch the flu, smear your nose with oxolin ointment.
  4. If you work in a team, regularly do prophylactic rinsing of the nose with sea water.
  5. If you need to be in the same room with sick people, be sure to wear a bandage so as not to get infected.
  6. Influenza develops in stuffy and dry rooms. The virus dies from fresh, cool and moist air. Therefore, regularly ventilate the room, install a humidifier.
  7. And the most important thing. Get vaccinated early in the fall and protect yourself and your children from the flu.

By following all the precautions, you can protect yourself from such a serious illness as the flu. Take care of your health and you won't have to look for ways to get rid of the flu. Be healthy!
