Case design and materials

In general, the appearance resembles the same G2. LG sticks to its own design thread that runs through all of the company's smartphones. Despite the uninteresting characteristics on paper, in life, LG managed to achieve such an impression from its state employee, which it should produce according to the idea of ​​the entire L-Style line - the most pleasant and long-lasting of A-brands for its money.

Frame

If you put several smartphones from different manufacturers next to each other, then LG and Samsung will be similar to each other so that there is nothing to say: the companies have a similar vision of their audience. The dual-sim version of the L70 smartphone differs from the single-symbol one in the control unit - there are traditionally four keys, arranged in the following order.

Due to the considerable diagonal of the screen, reaching for the “Back” key is inconvenient, at least if your hand is small or medium in size. Over time, I got used to it - either I held the smartphone in my left hand, or I controlled it with the help of two. In the end, it's 2014, the diagonals are only growing, it's time to get used to it.

On the front panel, the smartphone has slots for light and proximity sensors. But at least the latter is not provided in budget smartphones, and here it is not.

The rear panel is completely identical to that of the L90 and the newly announced L65 models. For me, for example, its texture was associated with some kind of fabric. Its advantages are non-staining, non-gloss and reliable adhesion to the surface.

The screen lock and volume control buttons are in their usual places. Right and left respectively. From the extra key, introduced last year (to launch the LG QuickMemo proprietary application by default, but this can be changed to any other in the settings), this season's models were abandoned. Apparently, they reasoned: no one has it - and we don't need it. By the way, the buttons themselves, although nice and neat, are a bit small. By touch, they are not always easy to detect. To a greater extent it concerns the volume control.

Slots for SIM and memory cards are under the cover. The microSD is hot swappable. To remove the SIM, you need to remove the battery.

The speaker is located in a traditionally unfortunate place - on the rear panel. This is what it looks like under the lid.

The case itself is assembled perfectly, you can’t even find fault with the sample. The white version of the smartphone is girly cute. In the hand, the device lies perfectly, despite the fact that by the standards of this year it is a bit thick. In part, it owes its excellent ergonomics to the exceptionally thin bezels around the display, which are usually not found in a mobile device for 2000 UAH.

Screen

LG L70 Dual is equipped with a 4.5-inch IPS-display with a resolution of 480x800 pixels and, accordingly, a pixel density of 207 ppi. For a state employee, this is a good indicator, although users who are especially spoiled by flagship screens may notice that the resolution is low. But for me, for example, a pixel density of 207 ppi did not cause discomfort. The screen has excellent sensitivity. There is a “smart” function in the smartphone settings: the backlight does not turn off as long as the camera sees your gaze. Convenient thing. The brightness of the display allows you to normally interact with the gadget on the street before the onset of particularly sunny days. For example, today, April 18, 2014, on the way to work, I did not experience problems with the screen due to the bright sun. Although on a particularly clear summer day there may be some discomfort.

As a result of measurements with a colorimeter, it turned out that the screen has an uneven color temperature, excessive coldness of shades is characteristic of dark areas, but in light areas, on the contrary, the colors warm up noticeably, and the image becomes closer to the standard. The color gamut approximates the sRGB space, but is shifted towards blues and greens.

Performance and autonomy

The device is equipped with a Snapdagon 200 processor - it is dual-core, but entry-level, with Cortex-A7 cores. The amount of RAM is typical for the needs of the time, that is, 1 GB. Whether or not you experience performance issues with the LG L70 Dual depends on how much you use it. When the smartphone just arrived for review, and I did not have time to thoroughly populate its memory with applications, the interface “flyed”. After installing the first ten, the smoothness decreased noticeably, but remained at the expected and quite decent level by the standards of a state employee. In graphics tests, the smartphone shows a high result for its equipment due to the fact that it has a low screen resolution by today's standards. In the game Temple Run 2 literally flies. And it was not possible to install Real Racing 3 - the application did not fit into the smartphone's memory (4 GB), and refused to be installed on the memory card.

With autonomy, a real pleasant surprise awaited me. The battery with a capacity of 2040 mAh allows you not to recharge your smartphone for at least one and a half days. Given that its camera is not particularly good at shooting, and the maximum screen brightness is not sky-high, the main source of battery “landing” for any user is likely to be games and the Internet. For those who do not like to play a lot, LG L70 Dual will easily live for a couple of days. For a budget device, this is an excellent result. Interface

The LG L70 Dual runs Android 4.4.2 out of the box, over which LG's proprietary Optimus UI shell is used. In the LG L90 review, Sonya Myshkina shared her first impressions of this tandem. The smartphone that came to us for review had a more up-to-date firmware version in which the coveted Knock Code worked. Thus it is configured.

You get used to this function not instantly, but quickly. For people who are responsible for the safety of their information, it seems to me that this is a very useful opportunity, because at least now, until it has spread to other manufacturers, almost no one knows about it, and no one else without special instructions from the owner will be able to unlock the smartphone. In any case, that’s exactly what happened to me, although I didn’t play smart with the code itself, I chose the simplest option.

From update to update, the interface of LG smartphones acquires a new portion of settings. In the LG L70 Dual, it seemed to me that most of them were useful, and not just for beauty, as was the case in the smartphones of this manufacturer a couple of generations ago. For example, the menu has a quiet mode, “smart backlight”, automatic brightness reduction to a minimum at night, a couple of popular gestures.

Camera

In a budget smartphone, the camera settings menu has become noticeably poorer. There is no support for HDR and a bunch of additional tricky shooting modes. Yes, it does not matter, most users do not use them anyway.

I was rather dissatisfied with the quality of the camera. In cloudy weather, in low light or indoors, the pictures are washed out. About macro - you can not think at all, and for landscapes the camera is rather weak. With good light, a small distance to the object (meter, two, three) and no hurry, in principle, the result will be solid. However, a horde of B-brands shoots approximately the same mediocrely (the only hope is for Huawei, which in Ukraine still pulls for the title of a second-tier brand in terms of market positions), Samsung Galaxy Core or Win and, perhaps, Sony are a little better. But in general, in this segment, no one shines with photographic capabilities.

Competitors

LG L70 Dual competes primarily with several Lenovo models and a number of Fly devices (which replace each other rapidly). In the assortment of these companies, you can find models with a slightly larger diagonal screen (if one is needed), with a higher resolution. The filling will also be more powerful, but in part it will be offset by other needs of the screen. However, Fly in older models (and for 2000 UAH they already have a “senior” segment in the line) uses a quad-core Mediatek MT6589, which the Snapdragon 200 will not keep up with at any screen resolutions and other options. On the other hand, only the LG L70 offers the most up-to-date OS version today. And in terms of autonomy, this model is able to give odds to any competitor. To this it is worth adding a more advanced interface, which, moreover, will appeal to lovers of everything cute and cute - and we already get a serious argument against more technically advanced competitors.

The model has no direct competitors in terms of price-performance ratio among Samsung, HTC and Sony. The closest are Samsung Galaxy Core (higher performance, slightly better camera, but smaller screen and older version of Android, in theory, Samsung should soon update this model with something more interesting) or HTC Desire 500 (much more expensive, but weaker in performance) . Inside the line, the L70 Dual is fighting for the wallet of buyers with the older L90 Dual (also present on the market in versions for one and two SIM-cards) and will soon begin - with the freshly announced LG L65. It's easy to choose between them - the more budgetary the model, the smaller the screen and the lower the performance.

In the dry matter

LG L70 Dual is a pleasant state employee, the advantages of which are the latest OS version at the time of release (Android 4.4.2), the availability of a version with support for one and two SIM cards for different tastes, very good autonomy by the standards of a state employee, the Knock Code function and visually pleasing screen (despite its low resolution). In the A-brand segment, its only serious competitor is the ever-aging Samsung Galaxy Core with higher performance, and if you choose from all the offers on the market, then several Lenovo and Fly smartphones, which will have a better screen and high performance. In my opinion, the LG L70 Dual will definitely be preferable for a female person who is not very interested in technology, but loves cute things, and who will rather appreciate the opportunity to live not from outlet to outlet, than a powerful stuffing.
