Special skills (abilities) of Geralt. Special skills (abilities) of Geralt The Witcher 2 assassins of kings passage strong back

In The Witcher 2, a mutagen is a powerful substance that can improve a character's performance. It causes an instant mutation of the witcher's body, which cannot be undone. And it is due to this mutation that skills are improved. But at the same time, many do not know how to use mutagens in the witcher 2, in general - it's not difficult, but first things first.

Mutagens are divided into:

  • weak;
  • medium;
  • powerful.

In addition, there is a Concentration Mutagen and Madness Mutagen, which do not have gradations.

Their action has a continuous effect. It is not recommended to use mutagens that are below powerful in gradation. The reason is that if it was used once, it will no longer be possible to remove the effect and replace the mutagen itself. The exception is the completion of the additional quest "Memory of Old Years", within which in Loc Muinne it will be possible to receive an offer to reset mutagens and skill points. If you agree to the proposal received, it will be possible to shuffle them in a new way.

What can mutagens be used for?

They have three uses:
  • Sale: not very profitable, since the mutagen does not cost a lot of money. But there is such a possibility.
  • In Alchemy Reactions (after patch 1.3): Sometimes a mutagen may contain an ingredient needed for a recipe. But it can only be used if there are no more suitable components.
  • For its intended purpose: for pumping the skills of a witcher.

Basically, mutagens are used specifically to improve the characteristics of the character. It is noteworthy that not all skills can be improved. The development of some skills is available in the sections "Training", "Alchemy", "Fight with swords" and "Magic".

How to apply mutagens?

And now let's talk about How to use mutagens in The Witcher 2… To improve your characteristics with the help of mutagens, you need to go to the witcher skill tree. You need to find a skill with a small gray slot in the outline of the icon. Only known skills can be upgraded.

The improvement is applied by selecting the icon and pressing the "Enter" key. After clicking on it, a menu appears where the choice of the mutagen used is made. Before finally applying it, the game will require confirmation "Mute ability?". After the mutation, the subtitle "Mutagens" will be added to the description of the skill, and additional characteristics will be written under it.

How to get a mutagen?

There are two different methods for obtaining mutagens in The Witcher 2. The first is by killing enemies. They can randomly spawn on a corpse along with other loot. There is always a chance for a mutagen to drop.

It is also possible to generate a mutagen in a different way - to get it as a result of doing an alchemical reaction. To do this, you need to pump the “Side Effect” skill, which allows you to increase the possibility of a mutagen falling out as a by-product of the reaction (up to 10% at the second level). Another question is whether this is so necessary, since few mutagens are needed during the game.

The story of the monster killer has already become a cult in the post-Soviet space. It is not surprising, because the adventures of Geralt of Rivia are completely saturated with the Slavic atmosphere, colorful characters and exciting quests, which cannot but please all fans of role-playing games. Unlike the first part, the sequel has got a lot more "bosses", the battles with which are quite unique and exciting. Overall, this is one of the most challenging and impressive spectacles in a game like The Witcher 2. Kayran is one of the first bosses, which we will talk about in our article.

Mini-review of the game

Back in 2007, the CD Projekt studio rolled out the highest quality product to the public, earning the devoted love of the fans and the sickly Sequel was a little delayed with the release, but 2011 reopened the doors to the amazing adventures of Geralt, embroiled in political strife. The game quickly throws us into the very epicenter of the events against which it unfolds. After the murder of the king, our gray-haired alter ego finds itself in a stalemate, because the murder was blamed on him, and the evidence was there. Nevertheless, by goodwill, our hero still manages to avoid a fatal outcome, but on condition that he helps to find the real killer.

The Witcher 2 gives players an unforgettable experience, showing a truly fascinating story, interesting relationships between characters, a delightful atmosphere of the Slavic Middle Ages, and an excellent technological side, where graphics flaunt all the newfangled effects, and orchestral music will stay in your memory for a long time. As for the gameplay, then he took a major step forward. The combat system has been completely redesigned, with an emphasis on attacks and rolls. Plus, the magic that the signs perform here has also undergone significant changes. Most of the quests are multi-level, and there are several paths.

"The Witcher 2" - how to defeat Kayran? Preparing for battle

In addition to actually completing side quests to gain the coveted experience and skills, you also have the opportunity to complete 2 quests that will help you in the battle with the Kayran. First of all, during the "Indecent Proposal" quest, a man will approach your company with Vernon Roche, offering his help. After listening to him, you will learn that Loredo hides valuable material in the courtyard of the residence, which is part of the trap on the Kayran. A pointer will appear on the mini-map showing the location of the item. Take it, you'll need it. Further description of the task you will read further.

The second quest is the preparation of the Mongoose elixir, which protects Geralt from the harmful effects of the poisonous Kayran. To do this, you will have to find a tenecost. Where exactly? You can ask Cedric about it, or you can immediately go to the cave under the waterfall. There you will find a valuable plant. Prepare a potion in order to facilitate the passage of the game "The Witcher 2". Keiran will not forgive mistakes, and therefore it will take a long time to prepare and with high quality. Drink the elixir just before the battle and go to battle soon!

"The Witcher 2" - how to kill Kayran

We will receive the task to kill Kayran automatically after talking with Dandelion and Zoltan in the tavern. The quest goes through several stages, which we will tell you in more detail now. First of all, after a short conversation in the tavern, a short video showing the attack of the monster will be waiting for you. In the harbor, you will see a black-haired woman fighting the Kayran with magic. At the end of the cut-scene, you will need to talk to her and find out more detailed information about the monster. After that, a certain Ludwig Merce will come up to you, who will offer you to kill Kayran for the appropriate reward from the merchants. This unlocks a new quest in The Witcher 2 - Kayran: A Matter of Price. Next, we go to Cedric, who can tell you even more information about the monster. He lives in Bindyug - a poor quarter, located outside the city. Cedric will indicate the place of dwelling of Kayran, to which we will have to go.

By the way, Cedric can sell you a blueprint for a trap for Kayran. If you complete the "Indecent Proposal" quest right before the battle with the monster and find an iron frame in the courtyard of Loredo, you can greatly alleviate your fate by creating such a useful item as a trap for Kayran. The Witcher 2 is a fairly complex game, so any help would be helpful.

Near the monster's lair, a crowd of drowners will meet you. We quickly deal with them and approach the unpleasant-looking essence. Triss will take a sample and point out to you that the Keiran is sick and very poisonous, and therefore some protection will be required. We have already written about the latter. If you have completed everything at the preparation point, you can go to Sheala, and then directly to the battlefield. When approaching the lair, drink all the necessary potions and get ready for the spectacle.

When the battle itself begins, then do not stand still, because the monster is constantly trying to hit you with tentacles. See the outgrowths on the tentacles? They must be destroyed. We remember the approximate trajectory of the blow, use the "Irden" sign and, when the monster is preparing to attack you, we quickly do a roll. After the tentacle is chained to the ground, cut it off. Don't forget also that you can use a trap just by placing it on the battlefield. As soon as Kayran loses three tentacles, the QTE scene starts. Its sequence is as follows: RMB - LMB - Space. After that, you should climb its wreckage and blow up the monster (Geralt will do this automatically). The battle is over! Take valuable items and follow to Flotsam for a reward.

Finally

In The Witcher 2, Kayran is one of the three bosses along with the Dragon and Draugyr. Of course, there are also mini-bosses, which include Queen Endryag, duckbills, elementals and the harpy queen. Each of them requires a different approach, and therefore approach battles wisely. Speaking of Kayran, if you are playing on medium difficulty or higher, we strongly recommend that you complete all the secondary quests in order to gain experience and the necessary skills.

In the same task, after the scene with the monk, do not rush to follow the king. Behind them, there is a door that leads to vast rooms with chests and crates of junk. We lose everything that we have collected when completing the quest "Dungeons of La Valette Castle", but when we go to the first chapter, everything that we picked up will return to us.

But what to do with the key, nothing is said. With it, you can open the bandit's house, which contains "Excellent cord" with damage 16-23 and two slots for strengthening:

best silver sword in the first chapter lies in a clearing with a crab spider. After defeating the monster and talking to Iorveth, at the end choose "I need to get ready" to stay in the clearing. And using the backlight "Z" - search the clearing.

When you killed him, we go into the room and MIRACULOUSLY another grandfather appears and starts a dialogue, select the reset of skills, scatter them as we need, get up, pick up the bag in which the staff is the dragon skin and other things that we knocked out from the last reincarnation of the grandfather and boldly leave into the portal.

As you progress through the game The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings for killing people and various monsters, as well as for completing individual missions, you get talents - one talent for each character level. There is no other way to get them.

Talents can be invested in the development of certain abilities that make your hero stronger. Proper character development can save you a lot of nerves at high difficulty levels, while incorrect character development can cause a lot of trouble in battle against strong opponents.

There are three main options for character development: swordsmanship, magic, and alchemy. Swordsmanship abilities enhance your offensive and defensive abilities, including by learning new combat techniques; magical abilities are aimed at strengthening the Signs - their new forms are opened, and the characteristics associated with magic are also enhanced; finally, alchemy allows you to effectively use potions, oils, bombs, traps and mutagens, and also increases the strength of your character in general.

In the case of magic, everything is quite simple: you invest talents in Sign skills, and use the full range of Signs available. There are no special frills here, but in the case of swordsmanship and alchemy, you can cross these two ability trees, choosing the most useful skills in each of them. We will talk about just such a development option (it is, of course, not the only one) of the character.

What abilities need to be pumped?

If you are playing on the dark difficulty level, then it is time to think about leveling up your character from the very beginning of the game. Say, if you use Quen and don't use magic, then why take skills to increase the speed of energy regeneration, if Quen blocks it anyway?

First of all, we take the Hardening skill twice - this will give us an increase of 50 health units, which is about half of what we already have. At the initial stage, this will prove to be a good help against enemies that can potentially kill with one hit, and in the future it will not be superfluous.

One level will have to somehow pump Parry. Of the remaining three talents, I highly recommend spending two on Fortitude, because the described build does not imply any other buildup of energy, and it is very important for using the Quen Sign. The remaining talent flies off to Reflect Arrows - this skill can be upgraded with a mutagen.

Basic Skills

Let's start fencing. We take Defense, because this skill lies on the way to two other more useful ones: Power and Windmill. Both are needed to draw a portrait of an attacking witcher. Of the skills that are at the base of the fencing tree, only Footwork is useful to us, and then we move along the straight path Proud - Military art- Immortal. The first two skills can be upgraded one level, since none of them lead to a direct increase in damage and do not give large bonuses, but Immortal should be upgraded twice, because even in the latest patch the bonuses are still significant.

The chance to kill the enemy with one hit is uninteresting in terms of gameplay, as well as bleeding. The last skills - Combat Sense and Hurricane - should be taken twice each.

Fencing

Protection Power Mill
Footwork Proud Military art
Immortal Feeling the fight Hurricane

At the same time, we are working on leveling up alchemy, and we will allocate the largest number of talents to it.

From the initial skills, you can take a Side Effect to knock out eight Powerful force mutagens. But in this case, you will have to use the "save and load" tactics many times; instead, you can be content with the usual strength mutagens (3-5 damage vs 3-6), and go through the Synthesis branch - Specialist: Elixirs.

By the way, if you still choose a Side effect, then the resulting mutagens can be sold (which will allow you to collect a decent amount), and the Alchemist may not be superfluous.

Before us open three skills - and all useful. Mandatory here is Blood Circulation, which enhances mutagens. Transmute and Taster are roughly equal. The first increases damage from oils (but it's only 10% versus 20% for Falka's Blood), the second allows you to drink an additional elixir, but, unfortunately, does not increase the toxicity threshold, so in most cases you still won't be able to drink four good potions straightaway. The taster still looks preferable due to bonuses for intoxication. There is another option - do not take either one or the other twice (leave the talent for fencing) - in this case, we take Transmutation one level, and we do not touch the Taster at all.

You can invest mutagens in the remaining five skills, so we pump everything at least one level. At the same time, if Condensation and Berserker are on the verge of at least some use and uselessness, then Metathesis could generally be taken two levels (either her or the Taster, if protection is more important to you). The mutant of the second level does not give any necessary bonuses, but the Increase looks very appetizing.

Alchemy

Alchemist By-effect Reaper
Catalysis Circulation Taster
Condensation Berserk Metathesis
Mutant Increase

Mutagens

Mutagens are collected and carefully stored until the moment of pumping the Blood Circulation skill, since it does not work on already used mutagens, and you will not be able to get rid of them. Of all the mutagens available in the game, choose Powerful force mutagen(or normal). Of course, at the beginning of the game you will not have the necessary skill, nor the mutagens themselves, so you will have to wait a long time with this part of the upgrade. In order to knock out eight Powerful Strength Mutagens with the Side Effect, you need to either prepare an over-the-counter amount of potions or use the classic save and load technique.

Trophies

The best attack trophy in the early chapters is the troll trophy. Also look out for draug and kayran trophies with their undocumented attack bonuses. The trophy from the third chapter, the most suitable for the current build is the trophy from the golem.

Special abilities

Gain a special ability called Experienced that grants you a 10% experience boost.

Armor and swords

At the beginning of each chapter, buy the swords of the Sacred/Treacher/Brother from the blacksmiths, as they have top damage and do not require special parts. As for armor, chest pieces require special components that can only be obtained towards the end of the chapter, so there is not much point in them, given the high cost of recipes.

See sections , and in The Witcher 2.

Elixirs

At the beginning of the game, a couple of elixirs for a comfortable game are Swallow and Rook. After pumping Catalysis, you can take combinations of White Raffard's Potion + Swallow + Rook, White Raffard's Potion + Thunder, Mallard + Thunder, Virga + Mallard + Rook, etc.

Adrenalin

In each of the three branches of development, you can get skills that will open up new game mechanics related to adrenaline. Adrenaline is generated during the fight with the enemy and when it is 100% filled, you can activate a special ability

  1. Fatality. A series of finishing blows that allow you to deal with several opponents at once. The ability is available in the fencing branch.
  2. Heliotrope. A new additional Sign that significantly slows down everything that happens around you. Enemies start moving slowly, but you don't. The ability is available in the magic branch.
  3. Berserk. Upon activation, greatly increases damage for a short time. The ability is available in the alchemy branch.

In our case, we will be able to use group finishing blows and berserk (although, purely subjectively, heliotrope is the strongest of the adrenaline abilities).
