Iron phone lenovo. Overview of the Lenovo S660 smartphone in a metal case. Smartphone for youth

A few years ago, the use of metal as a smartphone case was a rare occurrence and a symbol of the high status of the gadget. Then manufacturers began to expand the number of metal models, which affected the cost - it became much lower, and there were more such devices.

The next stage of evolution is glass panels using multiple layers to improve the aesthetic and practical properties of a fragile material. In 2018, the aluminum case has become a rarity and is mostly used to create a frame or frame. Despite this, on sale you can find interesting models with a metal case. They are presented in the text below.

To avoid confusion, it is worth noting right away that Meizu 15 has a white version, the rest of the colors received a metal cover. To some extent, the device was created for conservative buyers, as it has a classic screen aspect ratio - 16:9. The gadget is not large, the diagonal is 5.46 inches, FHD. The matrix was bought from Samsung - Amoled, which in itself speaks of a high-quality and beautiful picture.

The camera from Sony is 16 + 20 MP, the front module is 16 MP.

From the pleasant moments - good performance, face scanning to unlock, NFC, excellent sound quality. Cons - the body is slippery and unremarkable, the camera does not have an optical zoom, which affects the quality of shooting on the go. The price of the model is not the most loyal, so if the metal case is not a priority, you can choose a lot of more interesting devices with the same price and better or similar parameters.

According to the company's engineers, the temperature of the processor, even at the highest loads, will not exceed 8 degrees.

In general, the gaming Xiaomi Black Shark is a smartphone that can be used in everyday life (good cameras, picture, sound, autonomy), and directly for games. It should be understood that the device is not the lightest, this is due to improved cooling. Cons: No NFC.

Conclusion

The mobile device market is cyclical. 2018 was the triumph of glass, but given the trends that are observed in the development of smartphones, it can be argued that in the near future case materials will change again and metal will again take a significant place in this direction.

Lenovo is one of the best Chinese gadget manufacturers in the world. A large range of their products complicates the choice of a particular device. In this rating, we have collected the best Lenovo smartphone models in our opinion to make it easier for you to find this device. This list will include not only models of 2018, but also previous years.

10Lenovo K6 Power - metal body and great sound

A smartphone with a 5-inch screen and a metal case, which will cost about 10,000 rubles, is not so easy to find. Despite this, Lenovo K6 Power can offer its user even more options. Let's go in order.

The format of the smartphone allows you to use it with one hand. The metal part of the body does not slip, and looks very impressive. The fingerprint scanner is located very conveniently, in any weather it quickly recognizes the owner. Lenovo K6 is equipped with a pair of external speakers with Dolby Atmos enhanced sound system. With surround sound, watching movies and videos becomes more comfortable. In terms of performance, the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz. Using up-to-date components allows you to use less battery power.

  • The connection quality is very good, it catches the network almost everywhere.
  • Nice design, very comfortable to hold in your hand, plus the fingerprint scanner is located on the back cover.
  • The camera shoots quite clearly, in a dark room a bright flash will help.
  • The stereo sound is very loud and high quality.
  • The battery lasts for 2-3 days with normal use.
  • Users often complain about the poor performance of the microphone in talk mode.
  • Built-in battery.

9Lenovo Phab 2 Plus - the biggest screen

Phablets are quite rare on the market, and due to their size, they are worth our attention. From the Lenovo lineup, it is worth highlighting the stylish Lenovo Phab 2 Plus with the makings of a flagship, two main cameras and a colorful IPS screen.

The screen diagonal of 6.4 inches is not the most popular for a smartphone, a little more and it could be equated to a tablet. With such a screen, it is very comfortable to watch videos and pages on the Internet. Dolby Atmos technology allows you to produce high-quality sound. For games and solving all kinds of tasks, an 8-core MediaTek MT8783 processor is installed. Rocking the device 3 GB of RAM and GPU Mali-T720 MP3. 32 GB of internal memory is allocated for storing files. Getting high-quality pictures with Lenovo Phab 2 Plus has become very simple. The flagship set of cameras and image processor will please you with good shots.

  • The main camera takes very good pictures, especially in the daytime.
  • The latest games run without problems, but only on low-medium settings.
  • Large and high-quality screen, viewing angles are very pleasing.
  • With moderate use of the phone, the battery lasts for a day.
  • There is a fingerprint scanner.
  • The back cover is curved, you can not work by putting the device on a flat surface.
  • The cost is high.

8Lenovo A5000- powerful 4000 mAh battery

Appearance A5000 practically does not differ from analogues. Like all budget models, this device has a fairly large thickness (about 1 cm) and a weight of 160 grams.

As for the characteristics, there is a 4-core MediaTek MT6582 processor with a processor clock speed of 1.3 GHz. The amount of RAM and permanent memory is standard: 1 GB and 8 GB, respectively. Such characteristics allow you to cope quite well with modern 3D games, but only at medium settings.

  • The battery holds a charge for a very long time.
  • There is nothing superfluous in the phone.
  • Large and bright screen.
  • One of the best value for money solutions.
  • The camera does not pull on 8 megapixels.
  • Users complain about the appearance of glitches after updating the OS.

7Lenovo Vibe C2- affordable small smartphone

Another smartphone with a price of up to 10,000 rubles, which should attract buyers due to the bright HD screen, good battery and the ability to install 2 SIM cards. For this price segment, this is very good. But maybe Lenovo C2 has its drawbacks?

As for the case, we can immediately say that they did not regret high-quality materials. It is rare to find budget models that invest so much money in quality. All elements are joined tightly to each other, there are no large cracks and gaps. In general, a compact and convenient device. The screen here is also above average, the resolution of 1280x720 pixels and high brightness will give the user a beautiful picture. As for performance, it should immediately be said that this phone is not suitable for games. Although a 4-core processor with a frequency of 1.5 GHz will be enough for ordinary telephone tasks. By the way, the 8 megapixel camera takes pretty good pictures.

  • Very good autonomy, 2 days without recharging in daily use.
  • High-quality and pleasant case, the smartphone fits comfortably in the hand.
  • Good screen quality.
  • You can connect 2 SIM cards and a memory card.
  • The quality of the microphone leaves much to be desired.
  • The amount of RAM and built-in memory is small (1 GB and 8 GB, respectively).

6Lenovo K6 Note- good autonomy and advanced cameras

The K6 is a very good mid-range smartphone that offers decent specs for the price. The 5.5-inch phablet has a solid metal body, a Full HD display, LTE, a good 13MP camera, a fingerprint scanner and two SIM card slots. Also worth noting is the excellent battery life with a 4000 mAh battery. The manufacturer claims that the device will last for 46 hours of talks in the 2G network.

As for the cons, everything is standard here. Because the Lenovo K6 Note is all metal, you can't disassemble the case and remove the battery. Also a significant drawback is its price, it is somewhat overpriced compared to analogues.

  • Quality Full HD display.
  • The battery holds a charge for a long time.
  • There is a fingerprint scanner.
  • Good build quality, plus a metal case.
  • Covers and protective glasses on it are difficult to get.
  • Pretty high cost.

5Lenovo Phab 2 Pro- with support for Google Tango technology

Lenovo Phab 2 Pro does not look very boring, especially when it comes to rear view. The rear of the device is completely made of anodized aluminum. The unusual design of the back of the device has a simple explanation - support for Google Tango technology.

The assembly of the device is simply impeccable, nothing backlashes and does not fall off. In the palm of your hand, the phablet feels like an expensive, conscientiously made thing. As for the screen, there is a 6.4-inch display with a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels. Watching movies or playing games on this device is a real pleasure. Viewing angles are excellent, by the standards of IPS matrices. There are 4 cameras installed in the smartphone at once - the main one is 16 megapixels, the front one is 8 megapixels and 2 auxiliary ones. The pictures are sharp, rich and pleasing to the eye. The heart of the gadget is an 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, a video accelerator - Adreno 510, RAM - 4 GB, built-in - 64 GB. In general, this whole set works very quickly. The vast majority of modern games here will work simply amazing.

  • Very large and high quality screen.
  • Durable aluminum body.
  • Excellent speaker quality.
  • Supports modern Google Tango technology.
  • Non-removable battery, average battery life.
  • Inconvenient location of the fingerprint scanner.
  • Bulky and rather heavy, more than 10 mm thick.

4Lenovo P90- on 64-bit Intel Atom platform

This model has an unremarkable design, but as soon as you take the Lenovo P90 in your hands, the impressions immediately change. The plastic is of high quality, fingerprints do not remain on the back cover, there is no crunch or creak (due to the non-separable design of the case).

The device is equipped with a 5.5-inch IPS touch display with a resolution of 1920 × 1080, 401 ppi. The viewing angles of the screen are quite good, but there are minor problems with color reproduction. The heart of Lenovo P90 is not the most popular Intel Atom Z3560 processor (4 cores at 1.83 GHz) and PowerVR G6430 graphics processor. According to the manufacturers, this processor is faster and more energy efficient than previous generation models. As for the camera, there is a 13 MP with autofocus. The pictures come out very good.

  • Pretty good features.
  • Great camera, the pictures are pretty good.
  • The battery holds a charge for a long time.
  • Nice design.
  • The body is made of plastic.
  • Only one SIM card.
  • The price is too high for these features.

3Lenovo Vibe C2 Power - most powerful battery

Manufacturers rarely offer a budget smartphone with a powerful battery. Even less common is a good combination of characteristics and high autonomy. Therefore, we included the Lenovo Vibe C2 Power in the ranking of the best smartphones from Lenovo. This model is a continuation of Lenovo Vibe C and Lenovo C2, but this kid looks a little more interesting in comparison with his brothers.

As for the design and body, there is nothing bad or good to say. The usual budget plastic case, which is assembled quite soundly. The front panel has a 5-inch HD screen with a dot density of 294 ppi, a matrix made using IPS technology. The viewing angles are maximum, there is no color inversion. The 4-core Mediatek MT6735P with a frequency of 1 GHz is responsible for the performance here, and the video chip is the Mali T720MP. The smartphone also has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. The test results in games are quite modest. You can't call it a gaming phone. One of the main features of this phone is the battery. Large capacity (3500mAh) allows you to keep a charge all day without any problems.

  • High-quality screen with large viewing angles.
  • All necessary functions are available.
  • Low price.
  • Good battery, lasts a long time.
  • None at this price.

2Lenovo Vibe K5- Dolby sound in metal

The device is equipped with a 5-inch HD screen with a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels, viewing angles are very good. Responsible for performance Qualcomm Snapdragon 415 clocked at up to 1.4 GHz, plus 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. A feature of this model is a metal case with plastic inserts, and the sound system is represented by a stereo speaker with Dolby ATMOS support.

  • Nice design, good build.
  • Good features that ensure fast operation of the device.
  • Good camera, good quality pictures.
  • 2 SIM cards.
  • The battery capacity is very small, the screen quickly sits down.
  • The back button is on the right, while on other phones it is on the left.

Small smartphone with metal body and long battery life

The family of "long-playing" Lenovo smartphones, in the company's classification of mobile devices united by the letter "P" (from the word Professional), has been replenished with another curious product. Smartphone Lenovo S660 features an advantageous combination of balanced specifications, relatively affordable price, as well as some of the "proprietary" features of the line, such as a metal case and increased battery capacity. All this makes this device quite attractive in the eyes of a certain category of users.

If you try to understand the position of the device under study today in the mobile market, then it is worth, first of all, to note the fact that the device has a high-capacity rechargeable battery. This allows the smartphone to work without recharging much longer than conventional modern mobile devices, which automatically allocates Lenovo S660 to a separate specific product niche. Lenovo S660 is not alone in this niche, other manufacturers also have similar solutions, for example, the recently tested device Fly Evo Energy 4, which is equipped with a record-breaking battery, proved to be excellent. Lenovo also has similar solutions: the most famous of them is the Lenovo P780 smartphone, which we talked about in due time, so today's test subject will have someone to compete with.

Contents of delivery

The Lenovo S660 smartphone comes in a small hard cardboard box with a single compartment inside. In appearance, the packaging does not claim to be premium, but when you look inside, the attitude immediately changes. The internal arrangement of the box, the care and attention to detail with which everything is done, and even the corresponding marks in the inner compartment marking what and where lies - all this sets in a very positive mood and adds sympathy and respect to the product contained inside.

The kit consists of a compact charger (5 V, 1.5 A), a Micro-USB connecting cable, a wired stereo headset of primitive quality with a thin round wire with plastic headphones without vacuum ear pads. In addition, in some delivery options, you can find a plastic case that is pleasant to the touch, made of a rough matte material that does not leave fingerprints. In addition to the obvious purpose of protecting the body from damage, this cover has another function - with the help of a folding leg, it can turn into a desktop stand.

Appearance and usability

The Lenovo S660 smartphone is not too large in size, it fits perfectly in any hand, even a woman's. True, the case of the device has a decent thickness (reaches a whole centimeter) and turned out to be weighty (the mass is more than 150 g). With a small size, but decent thickness and weight, the device feels like a kind of weighty bar to the hand, but there is an excuse for this: most of the Lenovo S660 case is occupied by a very large battery, so in this case, excess thickness and weight are forgivable.

The smartphone has a very calm design, neat, but without frills and special charm - we have before us a modest-looking simple workhorse, the main purpose of which is not to show off, but to work hard and hard. The smartphone is not too easily soiled - all its surfaces, except, of course, the screen glass, are matte, rough, and there are practically no fingerprints left on them.

The back cover is a fairly thick all-metal plate, we often see such solutions in Lenovo mobile products. The company, by the way, presents the case of its S660 as "metal", but it is partially plastic with metal coating. This applies to all four wide side faces, which look like blackened metal, but in fact it is plastic.

But the cover is really made of real metal, which, of course, gives the body of the device strength, but it sits on its latches, unlike plastic covers, not “like a glove”. The material of plastic lids is usually more flexible and ductile, it stretches slightly when the fasteners snap in, and the lid sits very tightly, which metal cannot have. The cover of Lenovo S660 in any case crawls a little along the case, bends a little and creaks, which is a little annoying.

The cover is very difficult to remove, trying to pick it up and pull it off with a fingernail is problematic and even painful, it is better to use some kind of hard tool at hand. Under the cover is a removable battery and two full-sized slots for SIM-cards Mini-SIM format, located one above the other. Memory cards are also supported here, so you can also find a third slot nearby. Most of the internal space of the case is occupied by the battery, which, of course, makes the largest contribution to the total mass of the smartphone. The battery is removable, but it props up all three card slots from below, so hot-swapping them is not possible.

On the outer side of the back of the smartphone there is a small square window of the main camera, framed by a slightly protruding rim, a single-section LED flash, and below is an array of small round holes that make up the main speaker grille.

The speaker grill is covered by the table surface, which is why the sound of the lying smartphone is somewhat muffled. Single section LED flash can be used as a flashlight with pre-installed software. The flashlight has a flashing alarm mode, the flash shines brightly enough.

The entire front panel is covered with a flat protective glass without sides, a hole is cut out in it for a longitudinal metal grille of the conversational speaker. Nearby are the eyes of the front camera and sensors. Another useful element, the notification LED, shines with a bright dot right here at the top.

Below the screen, there is space for hardware buttons for controlling the system and applications. There is, perhaps, too much space left here: neat buttons that are not large in size are lost in the background and do not need so much free space at all. These buttons, of course, are touch-sensitive, have a dim white backlight, the central icon is made in the form of a recognizable “four-leaf” traditional for Lenovo mobile products, and not a classic “house”.

There are only two mechanical keys on the sides of the device, they are located on the right side. Large metalized buttons have a soft springy stroke and a distinct response, they are easy to find blindly. Taking into account the fact that the lock key is located here not on the top, but on the side, there are no complaints at all about the mechanical controls of the Lenovo S660.

The Micro-USB connector is placed here at the bottom, and the headphone output is at the top. The mode of connecting external devices (USB OTG, USB Host) to the USB port is not supported by the device. The smartphone connectors are not covered by any plugs and covers, because the device is not protected from water and dust. It was not found on the case and fastening for the strap.

On sale you can find the Lenovo S660 smartphone in only one color - the one that is presented in our pictures. The developers themselves dubbed this color "Titan".

Screen

Smartphone Lenovo S660 is equipped with an IPS touch matrix of good quality, but not the highest resolution. The physical dimensions of the display are 58 × 103 mm, the diagonal is 4.7 inches. The screen resolution at the same time is 960 × 540, which gives a good, but very far from the record density of dots per inch of 234 ppi.

The brightness of the display has both manual and automatic adjustment, the latter based on the operation of the light sensor. Lenovo S660 also has a proximity sensor that blocks the screen when you bring the smartphone to your ear. Multi-touch technology allows you to handle 5 simultaneous touches.

A detailed examination using measuring instruments was carried out by the editor of the sections "Monitors" and "Projectors and TV" Alexey Kudryavtsev. Here is his expert opinion on the screen of the test sample.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, resistant to scratches. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are no worse than those of the Google Nexus 7 (2013) (hereinafter simply Nexus 7). For clarity, here is a photo in which a white surface is reflected in the off screens (on the left is the Nexus 7, on the right is the Lenovo S660, then they can be distinguished by size):

Due to the difference in screen size and color tone, it is difficult to visually determine which screen is actually darker, but the statistics from the graphics editor show that the Lenovo S660 screen is slightly darker (its brightness in the photo is 93 versus 100 for the Nexus 7). The ghosting of reflected objects in the Lenovo S660 screen is very weak, which indicates that there is no air gap between the screen layers (more specifically, between the outer glass and the LCD matrix surface) (OGS type screen - One Glass Solution). Due to the smaller number of borders (glass-air type) with very different refractive indices, such screens look better in conditions of strong external illumination, but their repair in case of cracked external glass is much more expensive, since the entire screen has to be changed. There is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating on the outer surface of the screen (not very effective - the finger slides poorly), so fingerprints are removed more easily, and appear at a slower rate than in the case of ordinary glass.

With manual brightness control and with a white field displayed in full screen, the maximum brightness value was about 500 cd/m², the minimum was 12 cd/m². The maximum brightness is very high, which means that, given the good anti-glare properties of the screen, readability even on a sunny day outdoors should be at an excellent level. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable value. In the presence of automatic brightness control by light sensor (it is located to the left of the front speaker slot). In automatic mode, when external lighting conditions change, the screen brightness increases, but decreases only after some actions on the part of the user, for example, after the “put to sleep mode - activate” cycle. In complete darkness in automatic mode, the brightness is reduced to 12 cd/m2 (dark, but still readable), in an artificially lit office (about 400 lux), the brightness is set to 220 cd/m2 (just right), in a brightly lit environment (corresponds to lighting on a clear day outdoors, but without direct sunlight - 20,000 lux or a little more) - rises to 420 cd / m², that is, not to the maximum. It turns out that the automatic brightness adjustment function does not work quite correctly. At any brightness level, there is no significant backlight modulation, so there is no screen flicker.

This smartphone uses an IPS type matrix. Micrographs show a typical IPS subpixel structure:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of microphotographs of screens used in mobile technology.

The screen has good viewing angles without a significant color shift even at large deviations of the gaze from the perpendicular to the screen and without inverting shades (besides the very darkest ones when looking to the right). For comparison, here are photos in which the same images are displayed on the screens of Lenovo S660 and Nexus 7, while the brightness of the screens was initially set to about 200 cd / m². White field perpendicular to the screens:

Note the acceptable uniformity of the brightness and color tone of the white field (when photographing, the color balance in the camera is forcibly set to 6500 K). And a test picture:

Color reproduction is good and colors are saturated on both screens, although there are differences in color balance. Now at an angle of about 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen:

It can be seen that the color reproduction at this angle in the case of Lenovo S660 has not changed much. And the white box:

The brightness at an angle at the screens decreased (at least five times, based on the difference in shutter speed), and decreased by about the same amount. The black field, when deviated diagonally, is highlighted strongly and acquires a purple hue or remains almost neutral gray. The photos below demonstrate this (the brightness of the white areas in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the screens is the same for the screens!):

And from another angle:

When viewed perpendicularly, the uniformity of the black field is good:

Contrast (approximately in the center of the screen) is quite high - about 850:1. The response time for the black-white-black transition is 23ms (11.5ms on + 11.5ms off). The transition between 25% and 75% grayscale (according to the numerical value of the color) and back takes a total of 36 ms. The gamma curve constructed from 32 points with an equal interval according to the numerical value of the shade of gray did not reveal a blockage either in the highlights or in the shadows. The approximate exponent is 2.32, which is slightly higher than the standard value of 2.2. In this case, the real gamma curve deviates little from the power dependence:

The color gamut is almost equal to sRGB:

The spectra show that the matrix filters moderately mix the components to each other:

As a result, visually the colors have a natural saturation. The balance of shades on the gray scale is not ideal, since the color temperature is noticeably higher than 6500 K and the deviation from the black body spectrum (ΔE) is large. However, at the same time, the color temperature and ΔE change little from hue to hue - this has a positive effect on the visual assessment of color balance. (The darkest areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance does not matter much there, and the measurement error of color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

To summarize: the screen has a high maximum brightness and has good anti-glare properties, so the smartphone can be used outdoors without any problems even on a sunny summer day. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable value. The auto-brightness mode is of limited usefulness, as it only works upwards, and even then in very bright environments it doesn't boost the brightness to its maximum value. The advantages of the screen include the absence of flicker and air gap in the layers of the screen, good black field uniformity, equal to sRGB color gamut and good - in visual evaluation - color balance. The main disadvantage is the low stability of black to the deviation of the gaze from the perpendicular to the plane of the screen. Nevertheless, taking into account the importance of the characteristics for this particular class of devices, the screen quality can be considered high.

Sound

In terms of sound, the smartphone is nothing special. There is only one main speaker here, it sounds quite loud, but without a noticeable presence of low frequencies. The earpiece sounds about the same. However, this does not particularly affect the perception of sound during a conversation - the voice of a familiar interlocutor, timbre and intonation remain recognizable. The sound is significantly muffled if the device is placed on a hard surface with the screen facing up. To play music, the device uses the stock Google Play Music player with standard audio settings, such as an equalizer with several preset values. In general, the sound capabilities of the smartphone are modest, Lenovo S660 is not a solution for music lovers.

The device does not know how to record a conversation from the line using the built-in tools. The smartphone is equipped with a built-in FM radio, which traditionally works only with headphones connected as an external antenna.

Camera

Lenovo S660 is equipped with two digital camera modules. The front camera here is equipped with only a VGA-module with a resolution of only 0.3 megapixels, it takes pictures at a size of 640 × 480 and does not have autofocus. The quality at the same time is such that it is difficult to make out anything in the photo - the front camera is here, rather, for show.

The main, rear camera is equipped with an 8-megapixel module with manual and automatic autofocus, shoots with a maximum resolution of 3264 × 2448. The settings menu here is classic, familiar from other Android devices, not burdened with third-party user interfaces. The menu has several shooting modes, including HDR. Shooting can be done only by touching the screen - the volume key in this mode is responsible for the digital zoom.

The video camera can shoot with a maximum resolution of 1080p (30 fps), examples of test videos shot in bright sunlight, as well as in cloudy weather, are presented below.

  • Movie #1 (51 MB, 1920x1080)
  • Movie #2 (53 MB, 1920×1080)

The foliage worked out well, but with the exposure the camera missed a little.

Good sharpness in the background and across the entire field of the frame.

Perhaps the picture could have been taken brighter.

The camera does a good job with backlight.

There are no strong noises in the shadows.

On light walls, you can see a good result of the noise reduction.

The number of the nearest car is distinguishable.

To distant plans, sharpness falls very slowly and smoothly.

Even in medium plans, the foliage does not merge yet.

The camera doesn't do well with macro photography.

The camera turned out pretty good. She works out her 8 megapixels honestly, giving a picture that is pleasing to the eye. The sharpness is quite uniform and very good in almost all plans. Noise reduction does not work perfectly, but it does its job well - the shadows are quite clean, although in some places you can see some graininess, as well as artifacts on the borders of objects, which can ruin fine details. There is no noticeable sharpening in the pictures, which speaks not only in favor of the program, but also in favor of the module itself. The dynamic range of the camera is quite wide, but exposure errors sometimes occur.

In general, the camera is quite suitable for shooting various scenes.

Telephone part and communications

The smartphone works standardly in modern 2G GSM and 3G WCDMA networks, there is no support for fourth generation networks (4G), NFC is also not supported. The maximum wireless data transfer rate is limited by the HSDPA+ standard (up to 21 Mbps per download). As a standard, you can organize a wireless access point via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth channels, Wi-Fi Direct is supported. The navigation module works only with the GPS system (with A-GPS) - there is no support for the domestic Glonass system. The magnetic field sensor, on the basis of which the electronic compass of navigation programs usually functions, was not found among the modules of the device. Spontaneous reboots / shutdowns during testing were not observed, as well as slowdowns or system freezes.

Drawing letters and numbers on virtual keyboards is quite comfortable to control. The layout and layout of the keys are standard: switching languages here is done by pressing a special button with the image of a globe, there is no dedicated top row with numbers - you have to switch the layout every time. The phone application supports Smart Dial, that is, while dialing a phone number, a search is also carried out in contacts. In the keyboard settings, among other things, there is an inclusion of the input mode by non-stop sliding from letter to letter. You can also move the keyboard closer to one of the edges for easy one-handed operation, but with a 4.7-inch screen, this does not seem to be such a serious necessity. This opportunity, most likely, went to the smartphone from larger brothers in the mobile family.

The smartphone supports two SIM cards, and in general, work with them in the menu is organized according to a familiar principle: you can assign any of the SIM cards as the main one for organizing voice calls, data transfer or sending SMS messages. When dialing a number, it is also possible to select the desired card. A SIM card in any slot can work with 3G networks, but only one of the cards can work in this mode at the same time (the second one will work only in 2G). Working with two SIM-cards is organized according to the usual Dual SIM Dual Standby standard, when both cards can be in active standby mode, but cannot work at the same time - there is only one radio module.

OS and software

Lenovo S660 is currently running on the Google Android software platform, which is not the latest version 4.2.2. The manufacturer has changed the appearance and configuration of the user interface quite a bit, which is noticeable only in the absence of an application menu - all icons of installed programs are immediately placed directly on desktops. Naturally, the creation of folders is supported, and most of the pre-installed programs have already been sorted into them by the developers themselves. Otherwise, the interface is practically no different from the proprietary Android interface. There are many pre-installed programs, and in addition to really useful ones, such as an office suite and a file manager, you can also find several games and many Yandex programs here. All these applications are free, and they could easily be downloaded from the Play Store on their own, if the smartphone owner had such a desire.

Performance

The Lenovo S660 hardware platform is based on the single-chip system (SoC) MediaTek MT6582. This is not the most powerful of the MTK platforms: although it has 4 processor cores, these are not very productive Cortex-A7 cores. The processor cores here operate at a frequency of 1.3 GHz, and far from the most productive Mali-400MP video processor is also responsible for graphics processing. The device has only 1 GB of RAM. With built-in memory, things are no better for a smartphone - it is only 8 GB nominally, but only about 5.5 GB of them are available to the user for his needs. True, to expand the built-in memory in a smartphone, you can install a microSD card, but unfortunately, the device does not support the mode of connecting external devices to the USB port (USB Host, USB OTG) - it will not work to read information from a flash drive connected to it.

To get an idea of the platform performance of the tested smartphone, a standard set of tests was carried out. Based on the results of the data obtained during the testing, the Lenovo S660 system demonstrated not too high performance indicators that are quite expected from this MediaTek platform.

For convenience, we have summarized all the results obtained by us when testing a smartphone in the latest versions of popular benchmarks in tables. Several other devices from various segments are usually added to the table, also tested on similar latest versions of benchmarks (this is done only for a visual assessment of the obtained dry numbers). Unfortunately, within the framework of one comparison, it is impossible to present the results from different versions of benchmarks, so many worthy and relevant models remain “behind the scenes” due to the fact that they once passed their “obstacle courses” on previous versions of test programs.

In general, according to the results of all tests, Lenovo S660 can be classified as a device with an average (even slightly below average) performance. In any case, at the moment, the hardware performance of a smartphone should be enough to perform most of the basic tasks that applications from the Google Play Store can deliver, except perhaps for demanding 3D games, but this device is not intended for them. The modest size and resolution of the display and at the same time a large battery make it more of a reliable business assistant than a multimedia combine for entertainment.

Test results in MobileXPRT, as well as the latest versions of AnTuTu and GeekBench 3:

When testing the graphics subsystem in the cross-platform 3DMark test for the most productive smartphones, it is now possible to run 3DMark in Unlimited mode, where the rendering resolution is fixed at 720p and VSync is disabled (which can cause speeds to rise above 60 fps).

Video playback

To test the "omnivorous" when playing video (including support for various codecs, containers and special features, such as subtitles), we used the most common formats, which make up the bulk of the content available on the Web. Note that for mobile devices it is important to have support for hardware video decoding at the chip level, since it is most often impossible to process modern versions using processor cores alone. Also, do not expect everything from a mobile device to decode everything, since the leadership in flexibility belongs to the PC, and no one is going to challenge it. All results are summarized in a single table.

According to the results of testing, Lenovo S660 was not equipped with all the necessary decoders, in this case sound decoders, which are necessary for the full playback of most of the most common files on the network. To successfully play them, you will have to resort to the help of a third-party player - for example, MX Player. True, it will also have to first change the settings, switching from hardware decoding to software or to a new mode called Hardware+(not supported by all smartphones), only then will the sound appear. All results are summarized in a single table.

Format container, video, sound MX Video Player Regular video player
DVDRip AVI, XviD 720×400 2200 Kbps, MP3+AC3 plays normally plays normally
Web-DL SD AVI, XviD 720×400 1400 Kbps, MP3+AC3 plays normally plays normally
Web-DL HD MKV, H.264 1280x720 3000Kbps, AC3 Hardware+
BDRip 720p MKV, H.264 1280x720 4000Kbps, AC3 plays fine with decoder Hardware+ Video plays fine, no sound¹
BDRip 1080p MKV, H.264 1920x1080 8000Kbps, AC3 plays fine with decoder Hardware+ Video plays fine, no sound¹

¹ Audio in MX Video Player only played after switching to software decoding or new mode Hardware+; The regular player does not have such a setting.

To test the display of video files on the screen of the device itself, we used a set of test files with an arrow and a rectangle moving one division per frame (see "Methodology for testing video signal playback and display devices. Version 1 (for mobile devices)"). Screen shots with a shutter speed of 1 s helped to determine the nature of the output frames of video files with different parameters: the resolution varied (1280 by 720 (720p) and 1920 by 1080 (1080p) pixels) and the frame rate (24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 fps / with). In tests, we used the MX Player video player in Hardware mode, as there were a lot of artifacts in Hardware+ mode. The test results are summarized in the table:

720/30p well No 720/25p well No 720/24p well No

Note: If both columns Uniformity and Passes green ratings are set, this means that, most likely, when watching movies, artifacts caused by uneven alternation and dropping frames will either not be visible at all, or their number and visibility will not affect viewing comfort. Red marks indicate possible problems with the playback of the respective files.

The intervals between frames (or groups of frames) alternate slightly unevenly, and in the case of files with 50 and 60 fps, some frames are always skipped. However, in general, if we limit ourselves to 24 fps typical for movies and TV shows, then there are no special complaints about video playback. When playing video files with an aspect ratio of 16:9 (720p and 1080p), the image of the video file itself is displayed exactly on the border of the screen. The brightness range displayed on the screen corresponds to the standard range of 16-235 - all gradations of shades are displayed in the shadows and in the highlights.

Battery life

The capacity of the lithium-polymer battery installed in the Lenovo S660, of course, does not reach the record value of the Fly Luminor IQ4501, but, nevertheless, it is a significant 3000 mAh. According to the manufacturer, the smartphone can operate up to 36 hours of talk time and up to 35 days of standby time. The figures look fabulous (in both senses), in reality everything turned out to be more prosaic. According to the results of testing, the test subject showed excellent results in battery life in its class, but the device is not a record holder in this regard.

Continuous reading in the FBReader program (with a standard, light theme) at the minimum comfortable brightness level (the brightness was set to 100 cd / m²) lasted 25 hours until the battery was completely discharged. With continuous viewing of YouTube videos in high quality (HQ) with the same brightness level via a home Wi-Fi network, the device lasted 9.5 hours, and in 3D gaming mode - just under 5 hours.

Outcome

As for the cost of Lenovo S660, in our market the price of this smartphone is set at about 8 thousand rubles or a little higher (gray devices can be purchased at a price of 6000 rubles). According to the test results, the novelty can be safely attributed to the average level: the device has a very good screen with a comfortable diagonal, a very strong and well-built case with a metal cover, quite tolerable ergonomics and good hardware performance. And of course, here it is necessary to once again note the most important feature of the tested device - its unusually long battery life. In combination with the listed advantages and a very low price (for the Russian market), this makes the Lenovo S660 a rather interesting acquisition in the eyes of those users who value their mobile assistant not for its image, but for its working qualities. The Chinese have turned out to be an excellent balanced model, and the gradual price reduction is only good for it.

Some people appreciate the reliability of mobile gadgets. That is why manufacturers are increasingly using metal to make the case, and also supply smartphones with all sorts of security sensors.

So, recently, many people are interested in a smartphone with a metal case. In fact, such a device will serve you faithfully for a long time. After all, it is extremely difficult to break it. So, you can expect quality work. In addition, often the characteristics of such a device are on top. So, you will not only have a good, but also a powerful phone. What else does a modern buyer need? Probably nothing. True, sometimes a smartphone with a metal case is not so cheap. Although you can find quite budget options. That is what we will do today. Our attention will be presented to the best models of phones for 2 SIM cards with a good battery, which are equipped with a metal case. Maybe you can find something suitable for yourself.

LG D724

Let's start with a slightly non-standard manufacturer. The thing is that you can pay attention to the model called LG D724. This trading company was not very trusted a few years ago. But now everything has changed. And "LG" offers a great smartphone in a metal case. What are its main characteristics?

For example, the diagonal of the screen of the device is 5 inches. Quite normal for a modern phone. Resolution is also worthy of respect - 1280 by 720 pixels. There is a special battery model is quite capacious - 2540 mAh. With active use, the device works for approximately 4 days. Rear camera 8 MP. This allows you to take pretty good pictures. The operating system here is known to everyone - "Android 4.4". This means that whole streams of different games and applications will be available to you. The RAM of such a phone, however, is not encouraging - only 1 GB. But the processor is good - 1.2 GHz for 4 cores. In principle, the LG smartphone in a metal case of this "version" is perfect for work and study. It is not so expensive - from 10 to 12 thousand rubles. Sometimes you can find cheaper. But for the same amount, everyone has the opportunity to purchase not only the LG D724, but more powerful models. By the way, "LG" with 2 SIM cards works just fine.

Keneksi Crystal

And here is another very good smartphone in a metal case. True, it has not yet managed to establish itself in the Russian market. We are talking about Keneksi Crystall. This is a budget smartphone that is perfect for both study and work. It's not great as a gaming phone. And in terms of its characteristics, it is somewhat reminiscent of the previous model.

The diagonal of the display here is a little more - 5.5 inches. But the battery is also 2500 mAh. True, as practice shows, Keneksi Crystal works longer for a day in active use. That is, with it you can count on 5 days of work without recharging. To be honest, the option is very good. There is a 2-megapixel front camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera. The pictures are quite beautiful, bright and clear. Among other things, there is a more powerful processor. It also has 4 cores, but with a frequency of 1.3 GHz each. RAM is similar to LG D724. It is possible to connect an additional memory card to the phone. The version of the operating system, one might say, is slightly outdated - "Android", but not 4.4. In principle, it will do for work and some entertainment. You can update the system if you wish. Keneksi Crystall is a beautiful smartphone with a metal case that allows you to use 2 SIM cards at the same time. True, if you use different cellular operators, then there may be slight failures. Nobody is immune from this. But if we take into account the cost of the device - about 6,000, then we can put up with this feature. After all, usually the owners try to use the same cellular operators. This minimizes negative impacts. Perhaps, Keneksi Crystall is a smartphone with a metal case that will delight schoolchildren and students. It is well suited for learning.

Qumo Quest 507

Next, we again have a not quite familiar manufacturer. If you don't like Keneksi, but want to buy a non-standard thin smartphone in a metal case at a low cost, then you should pay attention to Qumo Quest 507. To be honest, this is also not quite a gaming phone. And it differs little from its predecessors in our list. Perhaps the main differences here are the manufacturer and design. As for the rest, we can say that Qumo Quest 507, for example, is an analogue of Keneksi.

Let's start with the fact that the screen here is average - only 5 inches diagonally. And there are two cameras. The rear is 8 megapixels and the "front" is 2. The screen resolution is mediocre by modern standards - 980 by 540 pixels. Do not watch videos in excellent quality. And films too. But for work / study, this is usually enough. The processor is similar to the Keneksi model - the same 4 cores at 1.3 GHz. Such a device weighs quite a lot - 144 grams. With 2 SIM cards, the phone works great. That is what attracted attention to himself. The battery, in truth, is less capacious here - 1700 mAh. But it works no worse than in all previous versions. In standby mode, you can count on a month of work, and with constant use of the device - for 4-5 days. This smartphone (metal case, for 2 SIM cards) charges quite quickly - literally in an hour. This allows you to always stay connected. This model costs 8400 rubles. Not so expensive when compared with some analogues. Nevertheless, reviews say that Qumo Quest 507 works better than the same Keneksi.

Asus ZenFone 2

And now, most likely, the next manufacturer will be familiar to many. It is considered very good in a metal case from Asus. And it's called ZenFone 2. This is already a more powerful model. It differs from the previous ones in many ways. Of course, this is also reflected in the price. But it's no secret that Asus makes only quality devices. And phones too.

The screen size of Asus ZenFone 2 is exactly the same as that of most analogues - 5.5 inches. It is quite acceptable for Internet surfing, and for games, and for reading. In addition, the display is protected by a special glass. The resolution is high - 1920 by 1080 pixels. This allows you to watch movies in good quality directly on your mobile phone. There is only one camera, but it takes great pictures. The buyer will be offered as much as 13 megapixels. The processor of Asus ZenFone 2 is the most powerful of all the options discussed earlier. It, like most models, has 4 cores. But their frequency pleases - 1.8 GHz. RAM is 2 GB. We can say that we already have a gaming phone to some extent. The ability to connect 2 SIM cards allows you to work with several cellular operators without failures and malfunctions. Even if they call you at the same time on both SIM cards.

The battery pleases everyone with its capacity - 3000 mAh. To be honest, the best battery has not yet been invented. Such a device will work for about a week without recharging. And in the standby mode for about 2 months. Very convenient and practical. The operating system is also familiar and familiar to everyone - "Android 4.4". And the price can be different - from 13 thousand rubles to 19850. Depending on your place of residence. However, if you buy Asus ZenFone 2, you will definitely not regret it. This is a really decent smartphone with a metal body, as well as a good battery and 2 SIM cards.

Huawei P8 Lite

Next, you can buy yourself a Huawei P8 Lite. This is a phone that is similar to Asus. But only with some significant differences. It is generally accepted that this model is a game model. So, it attracts the attention of consumers more.

As in many cases, the screen of the device is acceptable for the game - 5 inches diagonally. In addition, it transmits up to 16 million colors. And even in sunny weather, you will see a bright and clear image. In addition, smartphones with a metal case and a powerful battery, as a rule, do not have the best performance in terms of processor and RAM. But not in our case. After all, Huawei P8 Lite is equipped with an eight-core processor of 1.2 GHz, as well as 2 GB of "RAM". This allows you to run many new games and applications. True, sometimes buyers claim that more RAM could be made for such a smartphone. Average battery capacity - 2200 mAh. But the Huawei P8 Lite phone can work without recharging for approximately 72 hours. And this is provided that you will actively play on it.

The cost of the device pleases. Huawei P8 Lite will cost the buyer 15,500 rubles. For such a smartphone, this is a normal price. Yes, some models can be found cheaper. But they will not give such quality as Huawei P8 Lite. In addition, it works quite well with multiple SIM cards. We can say, on a par with Asus.

Samsung Galaxy S6

There is even a Samsung smartphone in a metal case. Perhaps it is this manufacturer that most often offers buyers such offers. So, pay attention to the S6 model. It really deserves attention in many respects. But you just have to be prepared for the corresponding price of the device. It is quite high - about 30-35 thousand rubles. But sometimes this is nothing compared to the opportunities that the phone gives its owner.

In our case, a device screen diagonal of 5.1 inches will be offered. In addition, it is in this version that there is the possibility of connecting a SIM card in the "Nano" format. There are two 5MP cameras. But they do not particularly please buyers. After all, the rear camera with 5 megapixels does not shoot in the best quality. For the front, this is more than enough, but not for the main one. The processor and RAM are also worthy of attention. 8 cores at 1.5 GHz and 3 GB of "system space". Perhaps it has every right to be called a game. Among other things, there is quite a lot of space for data - 32 GB. Also, this smartphone (metal case, 2 SIM cards) is considered from the latest generation of devices. So, there is a 4G connection. It allows you to use high-speed Internet. And all this is fast, high quality and reliable. The operating system of the phone is "Android" version 4.4. Battery 2500 mAh. It works, however, it is not as good as we would like. With constant use of the phone, you can count on approximately 3 days of work. There are no complaints in the standby mode - the device will definitely serve for 30 days.

Lenovo S90

Another worthy option is a Lenovo smartphone in a metal case. There are many models, but the best is considered Why so? What is special about her?

Let's start with the fact that the screen of the device is standard. The diagonal indicator in inches is 5. Enough for games, and for work, and for study. The extension is also quite normal - 1280 by 720 pixels. There is a capacitive touch multi-touch, which perfectly responds to the commands sent. Transmits the screen up to 16 million colors and shades. This is a normal figure for a modern model. In addition, the Lenovo smartphone in a metal case is perfectly protected from drops and damage. So, it will work for a long time and with high quality.

There are two cameras here, as in many models. The first (main) shoots from 13 megapixels, and the "front" from 8 megapixels. This makes the owners very happy. You can take high-quality selfies and videos, as well as receive and make calls using video. True, the processor is rather weak - 4 cores. Each one is 1.2 GHz frequency. RAM for a gaming smartphone is also not enough - only 1 GB. But sometimes this is enough. Fortunately, the operating system is quite new and widespread - "Android". And the version is set to 4.4.

The battery of this device is also decent. Despite its small capacity (2300mAh), it works for a long time and with high quality. About 6 days with constant use. And in the standby mode for about a month and a half. Quite decent performance for the Lenovo S90. Such a model will cost the buyer approximately 10,000 rubles. A great option for work and study. Sometimes even to run some games. But this option cannot be called a full-fledged gaming smartphone.

Nokia XL

Don't forget about Nokia. There is a smartphone of this manufacturer in a metal case. And the model is called Nokia XL. This is a great option that will delight many buyers. Especially if you like the Nokia manufacturer. And if you need a phone at a low price, but with good quality.

It is possible to connect an additional memory card. True, there is a limit of 32 GB. In principle, this should be enough for a budget phone.

With constant use of the device, you can count on approximately 6-7 days of work without recharging. The non-stop talk mode allows you to keep in touch for 16 hours. But the device is capable of "lying" idle for about 2 months. Nokia XL will cost from 9500 to 11000 rubles. As you can see, the best smartphones in a metal case are similar in terms of features and price.

HTC One M8

The last option we will offer today is the HTC One M8. This smartphone is very popular among buyers. And this is understandable - ATC has long established itself as a good manufacturer of phones. Sometimes it is he who can offer the best smartphones in a metal case. And now this is just our case.

This device works great with multiple SIM cards at the same time. In addition, HTC One M8 is equipped with a powerful processor and 2 GB of RAM. There are two cameras, but they are not very encouraging. The front shoots better than the rear. The first type allows you to take pictures at 5 megapixels, and the second - at 4 megapixels. This turns many people off. But the processor attracts - 4 cores. And each has a bit depth of 2.3 GHz. This is enough to call the HTC One M8 a gaming device.

The screen and operating system are also suitable for this lesson. 5 inches diagonally and "Android" version 4.4.2 do their job. The image on the display in any weather will be clear, bright and beautiful. There is a possibility of connecting an additional memory card up to 64 GB inclusive.

The battery of the device is also good. Its capacity is 2600 mAh, but the operating time is about 4 days. And this is provided that you will constantly be in contact with HTC One M8.
