Is it possible to flash playstation 3. How to flash Sony PS3 - firmware kmeaw or manual update of the console. Installing the multiMAN manager

Already now, the owners of Sony PS3 are rejoicing with delight, because now, you can simply and quickly flash your game console and freely download and install games. Today, we will introduce you to the step-by-step actions of the PS3 firmware.

Let's start with a little theory.

Jailbreak, or simply firmware, is changing / unlocking the software shell of your set-top box. After the firmware, your game console will be able to run games downloaded from the Internet without having a licensed disk, as well as install various applications written by craftsmen for the convenience of using the console.

Firmware history:

On December 29, 2010, a security hole was found in the PS3
January 9, 2011 George Hotz (Geohot) posted the first of its kind custom firmware for the PS3, which allowed you to run any software on the curling iron.
On January 17, 3.55 Waninkoko CFW was created and released to the network
On January 18, 3.55 Wutangrza CFW was created and released to the network
19 January 3.55 Kmeaw CFW created and released online
On January 27, the official 3.56 firmware was released
On January 29, 3.55 Waninkoko CFW version 2 was created and released to the network

What you need to flash the console:

1. Prefix, with firmware no higher than 3.55 (see below how you can check the firmware version of your console)

2. Flash drive formatted in the FAT32 file system

4. A little patience and care 🙂

How to check your firmware version?

Everything is very simple. To do this, follow these steps. Turn on the console and go to the menu " Settings" — "System" — "System Information"- here the version of your firmware will be visible (example: 3.41, 3.55, etc.).

ATTENTION! To flash the set-top box, you need to have the installed official firmware 3.55

Firmware update methods.

There are 3 ways to update the firmware, consider each of them.

a) From a flash drive. We download the firmware. Next, create a folder “PS3” on the flash drive and a folder “UPDATE” in it (the names of both folders must be written in capital letters) and throw the downloaded firmware there.

ATTENTION! The firmware should be located approximately in the following path: H:/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP

b) From a flash drive, through the Recovery menu. To begin with, we prepare flash drives with firmware according to the instructions above (see paragraph " a)", update from a flash drive). Turn off the console. We bring our finger to the power button of the console and hold until the set-top box turns on and off. We remove the finger and bring it up again by pressing the power button of the console and wait until we hear a double “peep-beep” (in the process, the prefix will beep but at a large interval, you need to hold it until the double peak), then remove the finger. The console will ask you to connect the game controller using a wire, which we must do.

We select the item - “Update the firmware” (it is the last one in the list) and wait for the end.

Video of the whole process:

c) Through the Internet from XMB. ATTENTION!With this method, the update will happen immediately to the latest firmware and if you need 3.55, then do not use this method!

Choice of custom firmware

At this stage, you will need to decide which custom firmware you will install for yourself. At the moment there are 4 versions of different firmware.

I want to note that the quality of each of the firmware, sometimes very different for each user, that's why, your task is to choose the best option for your console!

ATTENTION! It is more reliable to flash the console in the recovery (revovery) menu (see above for a way to get into the menu recovery). Although many people can easily carry out the necessary operations through XMB.

1. CFW by kmeaw.

This firmware already has a built-in lv2.pkg (there is no need to install it separately, but you still have to run it every time). Accordingly, there are NO bricks.

Firmware installation:

  1. If you have GEOHOT, then you can bet on top of it, without OFW.

Video instructions for installing the firmware from kmeaw.

2. CFW from Geohot.

This firmware was the first. With her there is no chance of getting a brick. Games are launched from the internal hard drive, using the previously found and installed pkg file of the game. This method allows you to run games without a disc in the drive! In the latest versions of managers, it became possible to run games without pkg and even from external drives!

Firmware installation:

  1. We are updating to the original firmware 3.55. (3 ways described above)
  2. Download the firmware from Geohot - HERE. And we update the system from a flash drive.

3. CFW from Waninkoko.

The first firmware with support for file managers! Also, it is possible to launch games from an external hard drive.
But first, let's look carefully which revisions of set-top boxes lend themselves to firmware!

You can see the revision number of your console on the back (bottom) cover. ATTENTION! After the revision number, there may still be numbers (for example, CECHH08 is the same CECHH).

NOT slim consoles:

shaking

  • CECHA=256MB
  • CECHB = 256MB
  • CECHC = 256MB
  • CECHE=256MB
  • CECHG=256MB

Firmware installation:

  1. Install the original firmware 3.55 (OFW). If you have CFW 3.55, then we do it through the recovery mod.
  2. Download the firmware - HERE.
  3. We update via a USB flash drive via XMB.

4. CFW from Waninkoko version 2

New firmware version from VaniKokos. This time they promise no bricks. And the rest is pretty stable firmware! It seems to be based on Hermes. The people respond very positively.

Firmware installation:

  1. Install the original firmware 3.55 (OFW). If you have CFW 3.55, then we do it through the recovery mod. Some of the users put it directly on the first version through the recovery menu and everything works great!
  2. Download the finished firmware - HERE.
  3. We update with ready-made firmware from a USB flash drive via XMB

ATTENTION! If the console constantly displays a message stating that the firmware version is the newest, flash through the recovery menu!

5. CFW by Wutangrza

Prosh on which, according to rumors, there are no bricks. In principle, for an ordinary user, except for 0% of the differences from "Waninkoko"- No. The only thing is that the firmware itself will have to be assembled according to the manual (see below).

Firmware installation:

  1. Install the original firmware 3.55 (OFW). If you have CFW 3.55, then we do it through the recovery mod.
  2. Download the original firmware - HERE.
  3. Download the Wutangi patch - HERE.
  4. Download the program called: "bsdiff" - HERE.
  5. We write the original firmware, patch and downloaded program in one folder - (e.g. C:\cfw)
  6. Open the command prompt - Windows (press Win + R and type cmd) and go to the created folder (command: cd c:\cfw)
  7. Run the following command - "bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP CFW.PUP Wutangrza-3.55.patch"
  8. Rename the file "CFW.PUP" to "PS3UPDAT.PUP" and use it to update the prefix from the flash drive via XMB
  9. Install the firmware from Geohot'a - " CFW from Geohot» (we described it second)
  10. Download package: lv2 - HERE. And install it
  11. Installing the file manager you need

Error codes:

80010009 — Restore original EBOOT and SFO by hand.

80029567 — This error occurs when the PKG is signed for a specific firmware and not for the one you are betting on. Look for signed PKGs or install other firmware.

8002F997 - It is desirable to take another flash drive and format it in the FAT32 file system. Then repeat the operation.

8002B603 - It is treated through the recovery mod 4 item "Reconstruct the database"

That's probably all. In the next article, we will look at popular managers and how to work with them, how to record games from FTP to the hard drive of the set-top box, as well as a detailed FAQ on all sorts of minor issues. Good luck!

Not every owner of a Sony PlayStation 3 has the means to buy stable games, or pay big bucks for a "specialist" to install the firmware for you. Firmwares are designed to run games or programs downloaded from the Internet, and use them painlessly.

Custom firmware attracts with ease of installation and use. You update the console software to a custom one, and then you can turn it on / off at will.

Below is a detailed instruction on how to flash the PS3 yourself to run downloaded games. For example, we will install stability-tested firmware from Rogero or kmeaw.
We will flash the PS3 using:
Flash drive;
And the Sony Playstation 3 set-top box itself. However, the software (software) must be no higher than version 3.55;

How to check your software version?
Go to "Settings" ==> "System Settings"

1) Rushed. Installing the official software update version 3.55

If firmware 3.55 is already installed on the set-top box, skip this step. If you have software higher than version 3.55, then at the moment your PS3 cannot be flashed.

You need to create a PS3 folder, and another folder in it, with capital letters UPDATE. Download the c / archive in order to update the Playstation3 software to 3.55. After unzipping, we transfer the PS3UPDAT.PUP file to a folder on the UPDATE flash drive.

We stick the USB flash drive into the PS3, go to the menu and look for "System Update" ==> "Update from the storage medium."
After the update, restart your PS3, and voila, now the software version is 3.55.

2) Install the firmware itself
We create a PS3 folder on the flash drive, and in it another UPDATE folder (only in capital letters).

Now we have a choice: install (change the filename to PS3UPDAT.PUP) or the time-tested standard 3.55 kmeaw c / . We recommend Rogero 4.55, but the choice is yours.

Downloaded, unzipped, and transferred the PS3UPDAT.PUP file to the UPDATE folder on the USB flash drive. We inserted the USB flash drive into the set-top box, and turned off the power (with the toggle switch on the back on thick models, for slim, pull out the power cord). Connect the power back.

Press and hold the power button until the set-top box turns on and off on its own (takes 30 seconds). Again, press and hold the button until the prefix beeps twice. After that, release the button, and the Playstation3 will boot into recovery mode.

We take the joystick, press the PS button, select the "System Update" item. After that it will start installation of custom firmware for Playstation 3. After installation and reboot, "Install package files" and "/app_home/PS3_GAME" will appear in the "Game" menu.

multiMAN manager for launching games on custom firmware

multiMAN is the most convenient program for launching games on a flashed PS3. Download from /, upload to a USB flash drive, insert the USB flash drive into the console. In the "games" menu, select "Install Package Files" and click the cross to install multiMAN.

In the attachment, go to multiMAN manager, select the game and click the cross - the image of the game will begin to be mounted, after which the game will appear in the "Games" menu. If you used the disc, then the games will appear in place /app_home/ps3_game.

Attention: most of the games require a disc in the console's drive.
In the case of using an old jailbreak keychain, the firmware will cause a black screen when starting games. To avoid this, install the same as the multiMAN manager.

This is the end of Sony Playstation 3 firmware and you can enjoy new games.

  • Console Sony Playstation 3 with official software 3.55 or version below. Firmware 3.56 and higher is not supported yet.
  • A flash drive or USB hard drive formatted with the FAT32 file system.

Preparing for PS3 Firmware

Check the software version of the set-top box at the moment. You can do this as follows: go to the PS3 menu in the section "Settings" - "System Settings" - "System Information". The screen will show the current software version of your set-top box.

1. Installing the official software update version 3.55.

If you already have firmware 3.55 installed, then proceed to the installation (as I wrote above, set-top boxes with software version 3.56 or higher are not flashed yet).
Make sure that the file system of the media you are using (USB HDD or flash drive) is FAT32, if your console "sees" its contents, then the flash drive is already formatted in FAT32. Create a folder at the root of your USB drive named "PS3" with a subfolder "UPDATE" (case-sensitive). Download the archive with the official software update to 3.55, unzip it and copy the official firmware file “PS3UPDAT.PUP” to the PS3/UPDATE directory you created earlier. Connect the flash drive to the Playstation 3 console and select from the menu System update - Update from media. The device will update. After the installation is complete, PS3 will turn off, now turn it on and check the software version - 3.55.

2. Installing custom firmware 3.55 kmeaw.

Download custom firmware 3.55 kmeaw and run it. Specify the path to the flash drive, the installation will be performed on it. Connect the flash drive to the device. Now you need to completely disconnect the Playstation 3 (switch the toggle switch on the back - FAT models, to pull out the power cord - Slim models). Turn on the power of the set-top box again. Press and hold the power button of the set-top box until it turns on and off again by itself (about 30 seconds). Press the button again and hold it until the device beeps twice. After the beep, release the button. The Playstation will boot into recovery mode.
Connect the joystick with a wire, press the "PS" button and select "System Update". The Playstation 3 will start installing kmeaw custom firmware.
After the console completes the update and reboots, two new items should appear in the Game menu: "Install package files" and "/app_home/PS3_GAME".

Installing the multiMAN manager to run games on custom firmware.

multiMAN is considered the best manager for running games on custom firmware.
Download multiMAN 2.03.00 and BDEMU Blu-Ray drive emulator, copy the files to the root of your flash drive and connect it to the Playstation 3. Via the menu "Games" - "Install Package Files" on the console, use the “X” button of the joystick to first set multiMAN, then BDEMU. The drive emulator is needed, because in the latest version the developer removed the ability to run backups.

Games that you will download from torrents, write to an external drive or USB flash drive. On an external drive, create a GAMEZ folder at the root, and inside it folders with the game code.

Attention! To avoid startup errors, check the correct sequence of folders, because adding directory subsections to the game path will not start the game.

How to run the game on custom firmware

Go to the multiMAN manager and press the "X" button on the game - the game image will be mounted and a new icon will appear in the "Game" menu: if any Blu-Ray disc is inserted into the set-top box drive - the game will appear in the disk section, if there is no disk in the drive - in /app_home/ps3_game).

Attention! Not all games come without a disc, some require any Blu-Ray disc in the console's drive.

Downgrade on PS3 consoles with firmware 3.56 - 4.46 (firmware rollback)

Downgrade (from English - downgrade) is the use of old device software. Downgrade, as an operation with a device, is used to roll back the firmware due to the greater stability of the earlier firmware or the possibility of any manipulations with the device. Owners of the PS3 set-top box with firmware 3.56-4.46 can use a special device - E3 Flasher (E3 Flasher), which can downgrade the console firmware, that is, downgrade. E3 Flasher is a special chip that is installed inside the set-top box to be able to roll back to an earlier firmware version, respectively, to install a custom one.

Downgrade is usually done on custom firmware 3.55, since this firmware is completely hacked. After rolling back to an earlier firmware version, you can install custom firmware Rogero 3.55 v.3.7 or (or Kmeaw 3.55 - instructions in this article).

Conditions under which a PS3 downgrade is possible:

  • The Date Code of the prefix must be no higher than 1B (this means that the prefix must be produced no later than Q2 2011). You can see the Date Code on the back of the console. Let's say 9D and 0C are suitable, since the set-top boxes were released in the 4th quarter of 2009 and the 3rd quarter of 2010, respectively. 1C, 1D - no longer suitable (3rd, 4th quarters of 2011). Also, your PS3 memory must be NOR, as indicated by the following model numbers: CECHH, CECHJ, CECHK, cechl, CECHM, CECHP, CECHQ
  • Your console's factory firmware must be below 3.60.
  • Slim version consoles with model number 3000 cannot be downgraded.

If your PS3 has OFW 3.55(OFW is the official version of the firmware, custom firmware is called CFW), you can flash the set-top box yourself. How to do this, we will tell in this article.

Check the official software version

Attention! Firmware can only be installed on OFW 3.55. When you try to flash a set-top box with a later version of the official software, you can get a "brick" of the console!

To find out the version of the official firmware, in the menu "Settings" your console, go to the section "System" and select the item "System Information". Your OFW version will be listed there.

Most likely, the official firmware version will be higher than 3.55. In this case, you need to do a downgrade (we are talking about it).

OFW update

If you come across a console with official firmware lower than 3.55 (for example, 3.41), you need to update it. It's simple enough.

To upgrade, download OFW 3.55.

On a flash drive formatted in FAT32, create a folder PS3. Go to this folder and create an UPDATE folder in it. In this folder you need to copy your firmware.

Please note that the names of both folders must be in uppercase (CAPS).

Paste the folder with the firmware into the console. On the menu "Settings" go to "System Update" and select the item "from carrier". The update will install automatically. During this process, do not touch, much less turn off the console.

PlayStation 3 firmware

Installing custom firmware (CFW).

After you have installed the official firmware 3.55 on the console (upgrade or downgrade), you can install custom firmware - CFW. One that provides advanced features.

At the moment, there are several versions of firmware from different developers. The most popular of them are: Rodgero, Darknet, REBUG. There are other firmware. All of them have similar features and provide the same functionality.

Most firmware is suitable for all models with OFW 3.55 (but not all models can be downgraded to version 3.55). However, there are firmwares that may not run or “freeze” on some PS3 models.

Most firmwares are ready-made PS3UPDAT.PUP files, but in some cases you have to create this file yourself according to the instructions that came with the firmware.

So, your first task is to choose a custom firmware for PlayStation that best suits your model and meets your requirements.

Download the selected firmware from the Internet, check that the firmware file is called PS3UPDAT.PUP and place this file in the PS3/UPDATE folder (the UPDATE subfolder in the PS3 folder) on the flash drive. Folder and file names must be written in capital letters.

Most firmware is installed from a flash drive via XMB, just like official updates. That is, go to the section "System Update"(menu "Settings") and update from the media.

If the firmware is not installed in this way (the console displays the message “the latest firmware version is installed”), there is a second option - through the mode Recovery.

installing CFW in Recovery mode

To get into Recovery, press the power button and hold it until the set-top box turns on and off again. Then press the power button again. The device will start beeping. When it beeps 2 times in a row, release the button and connect the gamepad via the USB cable.

On the controller, press the center button. In the list that appears, select System update(system update). Wait for the installation to complete and restart your console. Firmware installation is complete.

Possible problems

At first glance, flashing a PlayStation 3 seems like a simple matter. But each version of CFW has its own installation nuances, and when flashing, there is always a chance to get a console brick.

In addition, it is unlikely that you will have a prefix with an OFW of 3.55 or lower. Most likely, the console will be installed with newer software, and will have to be downgraded. As we wrote, downgrade is better to do in a specialized workshop. It is logical to flash your prefix there. In this case, the master will select the CFW version that best suits your model, and you will receive a guarantee for all work.

Produced in our workshops PlayStation 3 firmware. You can safely trust the many years of experience of our specialists. Call and sign up!

“Jailbreak”, which means changing / unlocking the software part, is essentially the firmware of the set-top box.

After this process, games downloaded on the Internet without a licensed disk will be launched from the console, and various programs can be installed that are written by programming masters for more convenient use of the console.

The cost of such an operation with a Playstation 3 is on average about 900 rubles.

Is it worth it to flash the prefix

First you need to weigh all the pros and cons.

After unlocking, the following features will appear:

  • entry to the built-in memory of the console of games downloaded from the Internet (sent using a USB drive or via ftp protocol) or unpacked from licensed discs;
  • launch games directly from USB drives;
  • usage homebrew– various unofficial software.

Accordingly, the user receives the following benefits:

  • absence spending on games, saving;
  • absence loads to the reader drive (there will be no need for it);
  • extension console capabilities.

The number of pluses is not large, but each of them is a strong argument in favor of performing this operation.

However, there is also a downside:

  • risk of getting banned. There is such a service as PSN. It is used on most consoles from Sony and with the help of this service unlicensed versions of games are calculated. To avoid a ban, you need to play only licensed versions of games, or use homebrew programs to access the network.

Even if the prefix not connected to the network, you can still get a ban, which will result in the absence of multiplayer. It is also worth noting that not all PS3s can be flashed.

How to find out the installed version

To check the version:

How to check if Sony PlayStation 3 firmware is possible

Supported Models:

Slim 2xxx - models with DATE CODE 1A or 1B need check this way:

  • remove the dump;
  • download PS3DumpChecker ;
  • run, push Check Image, select a dump file;
  • find the variable “metldr.name”;
  • clarify the value of "Actual data". If it corresponds to the value: 6D 65 74 6C 64 72 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - flashing is possible. If the number 32 comes after the number 72, it is impossible.

Update methods

Before installing firmware on Sony PlayStation 3, you must eject disk Blu-Ray from the drive, since the Playstation is first updated from the disc.

FROM USB flash drives:

  1. Rename downloaded file to “PS3UPDAT.PUP” (in capital letters).
  2. Copy file PS3UPDAT.PUP to a USB flash drive (FAT32), having previously created two folders: “PS3”, and in it “UPDATE”.
  3. Insert USB drive into the console, then turn it on.
  4. Select "System Update", then "". Flash PS3 following the instructions.

C using recovery. The method is identical to the previous one. You should also create two folders and copy the renamed firmware file. Further:

Through the Internet. When choosing this method, the set-top box will automatically update to the latest firmware version by downloading it from the Internet. If you need to install version 3.55, it is better not to use this method.

What firmware to choose

It is impossible to say unequivocally which firmware is better. It all depends on the user's preferences. The most popular are:

  1. CFW Ferrox. Ferrox is suitable for those who like customization without extra features.
  2. CFW Rebug. A feature of the firmware is the presence of useful functions, such as “PACKAGE MANAGER”, “REBUG TOOLBOX” “SELECTOR” and several utilities.

Update to version 3.55

If the console you are using is running on a firmware version earlier than 3.55 (for example, 3.41), you need to update it:

  • you need to download OFW 3.55.
  • format USB drive in FAT32 and create a folder "PS3" and in it "UPDATE". You need to copy the firmware into it. Both names must be entered in uppercase, capital letters.
  • further, insert the drive into the USB connector, then go to the "Settings" - "" menu and select the item "From the media". The update will install automatically. During this process, do not touch, much less turn off the console.

Firmware procedure

Attention! Updates to PS3 Fat, Slim and SuperSlim custom firmware must be made only from version 3.55!

You should download the necessary files for the update. You can do this by following the link on the w3bsit3-dns.com forum.

Creating a firmware file

In some cases, firmware manufacturers may make available for download firmware archive, instead of the finished file in the “PUP” format. In this case, you need to create such a file.

It's important to know- if the developer did not include instructions for assembling the *.PUP file along with the files, then it is better not to use it and download a ready-made one from another source.

Installing the multiMAN manager

Manager Features:

  • FTP server, which functions constantly;
  • file manager;
  • setting additional features in the options.ini file (options_default.ini);
  • launch games with problems using “+”;
  • support 7 device types: HDD/USB/BD/SDHC/MS/CF;
  • possibility control the console using PSP and other devices;
  • the ability to manage the manager with keyboards and mice;
  • checking and updating by pressing the button;
  • support COVER covers;
  • support themes;
  • possibility activate AVCHD from a USB device;
  • the possibility of creating backup AVCHD to internal HDD;
  • support for playing AVCHD and BDVM content from the internal HDD;
  • playback MP3 and JPEG viewing over the network;
  • the ability to work with devices formatted in NTFS.

Installation instructions:

  • download multiMAN ;
  • take advantage of " Install PKG Files» (install package files) to install. It is enough to run the installer on the set-top box and follow the instructions of the wizard.

How to run the game on a flashed PS3

To start you need:

  • decide on the drive from which the launch will be performed. Make sure it is formatted to Fat32;
  • create a folder on the drive “ GAMES”;
  • copy downloaded games. The names of the games must be in English;
  • after the game has been copied, remove the flash drive, insert it into the console;
  • after starting Multiman it should display all games from a flash drive. If the list of games is not loaded, press SELECT+L at the same time.

Rollback to version 3.55

A downgrade is a return to an older version of the official console firmware. Such an operation is needed to install custom firmware (if the version is higher than 3.55), and managers such as Multiman or Rodgero Manager. They allow you to launch games downloaded from the Internet, without using licensed discs, directly from a built-in or portable drive.

When rolling back, only the software part is affected, but in the process E3 programmer required- a device-chip that is connected inside the console during the procedure itself, and then removed.

There are two ways to roll back:

  1. Buy a programmer, make a rollback following the instructions from the Internet (risky method).
  2. take advantage with the help of specialists, which will not only roll back, but also install a stable firmware and give a guarantee of performance. The cost of these services is approximately equal to the cost of an E3 flasher. (recommended way).

Which option to use is a matter of taste.

Conditions under which a PS3 downgrade is possible:

  • must be below 1B (for example, 9D and 0C), and the prefix must have memory typeNOR;
  • the native firmware of the console should be below 3.60 version;
  • PS3 Slim consoles with model number 3000 cannot be rolled back.
