Complete instructions for installing, configuring and working with iCloud in Windows

Let's take a closer look at how to create iCloud on iPhone. Every owner of Apple equipment must have an account in this cloud storage.

Thus, you will get access to all the additional features of your device.

Users of other operating systems can also create their own personal page in the system and store their data on a virtual disk or simply use the mail service.

What is iCloud?

iCloud is the largest cloud storage environment that has the features of an email client.

The site launched in 2011 and was designed as a more advanced replacement for MobileMe.

In addition to storing information and messages, with the help of Apple device owners, they can store backup copies of gadget settings in the environment, synchronize data with other devices, and work with the Find My Phone function (quick search and).

Benefits of iCloud

The main feature of the service is that it is designed specifically for iOS and Mac OS, so there is simply no better and more stable storage than iCloud for your iPhone.

Other popular "clouds" will not be able to provide a more organized and thoughtful storage and processing of data.

iCloud Benefits:

  1. Free registration. After creating an account, you get 5 GB of free space on a virtual disk. If you want to remove this restriction, you must subscribe to a paid subscription;
  2. No ads. Compared to clouds from or Yandex, on iCloud you will never see advertising banners or annoying pop-ups;
  3. The storage is well integrated with the IOS mobile platform and Macintosh computers. This allows you to achieve stable operation with a minimum percentage of errors. Data synchronization between devices is instant (if there is a good Internet connection);
  4. Anti-spam and anti-spam system. You can create virtual mailboxes that are linked to an existing account. Unnecessary letters will be sent to them, which allows you not to load the main page with letters with unnecessary information.

Using the data of the created account, you get access to all official services and services from Apple, namely:

  1. App Store App Store;
  2. iCloud Drive storage;
  3. Mail [email protected] ;
  4. Find My Phone function;
  5. Means of communication FaceTime, iMessage and others.

Using the iCloud mail service as your Apple ID creates better information security.

The risk of profile hacking is minimal, and data recovery occurs instantly, however, without knowing the unique information (answers to questions, backup mail), it is almost impossible for an attacker to do this.

iCloud is Apple's famous cloud storage, designed to save and synchronize various confidential information: contacts and events from the calendar, notes and reminders, Pages, Numbers and Keynote documents, photos and videos, and at the same time generated backups that allow you to restore at any time lost data back. Officially, iCloud is available on iOS and MacOS operating systems, open for, and more recently iCloud for Windows is available. You will need an Apple ID account for authorization, and preparing the settings will take only a few seconds.

Installation

Available settings and services

Before you begin to fully use iCloud for Windows, you should understand some of the nuances and subtleties, namely:

iCloud Drive

An additional section of cloud storage is needed primarily for storing documents from the iWork office suite, which includes Numbers, Pages and Keynote, and secondly for transferring data for general use. It is allowed to add any information to the iCloud Drive section, the main condition is the availability of sufficient space in the cloud storage.

But you can’t work with documents from here - the tools available on Windows, if they are able to run some files, then there will definitely be problems with making adjustments and saving changes. And therefore, the only correct way out of the situation is to double-click on the available file and in the same second be transferred to the browser, where, after a short authorization through Apple ID, it will be possible to create, record and register various information.

Photo

The exchange of pictures and videos occurs automatically after enabling the "iCloud Photo Library" or "My Photo Stream" function (the first option is preferable - different formats are supported, including MP4, and there will never be any issues with updates). One of the listed settings must be enabled on other devices (tablets and smartphones), which will also become part of the “sync path”.

On a Windows computer, you only need to work with the settings - select the directories where the media library will be uploaded. After saving the change, the corresponding section with photos will appear in the Start menu or in My Computer.

Mail, contacts, calendars and tasks

A section focused around personal information that does not allow you to get lost in time, e-mail, address book and set goals for the distant future. When the corresponding checkbox is checked, the data will automatically be transferred to the appropriate sections of Windows.

Calendar and contacts - in Microsoft Outlook, mail - in the browser, reminders - in the built-in notification system. Information is presented really conveniently and quickly, but those who are not used to using Microsoft Outlook will definitely not like this synchronization method.

And the main problem is that there is no way to change the synchronization method - neither to specify additional software, nor to transfer some files to a new location.

Bookmarks

The penultimate item of the proposed menu, which quickly transfers data from mobile browsers to a computer one. A transfer system has been implemented immediately to all current versions - Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox. There is a special nook for the data, which will allow you not to be distracted from the already configured menu and interact with the newly arrived elements.

storage

Officially, each participant receives 5 GB of free cloud storage for free use, but, if desired, the available plan is easy to change - 50 GB versions are open for 59 rubles per month, 200 GB for 149 rubles per month, and 2 TB for 599 rubles per month.

To activate Keychain Access, you need to come up with a 4-digit password and provide a phone number. It will receive an SMS with a code that you need to enter in the appropriate field.

Find My iPhone

Find My iPhone is a service that, in a special application or on iCloud.com, shows the location of each of your Apple devices and allows you to remotely block, send a message asking you to return the device, or in a hopeless situation, erase all data.

Find My iPhone is part of iCloud, in the corresponding item you can enable / disable the service and set up automatic saving of geolocation when the battery level is critically low.

Mail

When you create an iCloud account, you get a mailbox with the same domain. The name you choose can be used later to sign in to your Apple ID.

In this post, I have explained how to create and sign in to iCloud. What is it for and how can you restore your iPhone with it.

What is iCloud

iCloud is Apple's cloud storage through which information is automatically synchronized between your devices. For example, contacts and notes between iPhone and iPad.

If there is enough free space in iCloud, then the iPhone stores a backup copy of photos and other information there.

You get iCloud storage automatically when you sign up for an Apple ID, which is required to use Apple technology.

By default, iCloud has 5 GB of free space. Of course, this is not enough to backup the phone even with 16 GB of memory. Therefore, I recommend expanding iCloud to at least 50 GB.

50 GB - $0.99 per month;
200 GB - $2.99;
2 TB - $9.99.

How to sign into iCloud on iPhone

You can sign in to iCloud directly on your Apple device. To do this, enter your Apple ID in:

Settings ▸ Sign in on iPhone

Sign in to iCloud through iPhone settings. You will need an Apple ID for this.

How to access iCloud through a browser

If your phone breaks down or you lose it, you can always access your photos and contacts through the web version of iCloud.

If you enter iCloud through a browser, you can see your mail, contacts, photos and other information

If in Apple ID, then to enter through the browser you need to confirm your identity with a digital code that will come to your other Apple devices or via SMS to the main and backup phone numbers.

How to set up iCloud backup

By default, iCloud backup is disabled. It only makes sense to turn it on when you have bought an additional 50, 200 or 2000 GB storage space.

Settings ▸ Apple ID ▸ iCloud ▸ iCloud storage ▸ Change storage plan

By default, you only have 5 GB in iCloud. Additional space can be purchased in the "Change storage plan" tab

You can also enable iCloud backup in the settings:

Settings ▸ Apple ID ▸ iCloud ▸ Backup

You can enable iCloud backup of your iPhone in Settings. But, for this you must have enough free memory in iCloud itself.

Such a backup will store absolutely all data from the phone, including photos, contacts and videos.

With an iCloud backup, you can completely restore your phone if your old iPhone is broken, you lost it, or you just bought a new one.

How to set up sync settings via iCloud

Even if you haven't purchased additional iCloud space, your iPhone will still be able to store calendars, contacts, and other settings in it. And also synchronize this information between your devices.

You can set up apps that have access to iCloud in:

Settings ▸ Apple ID ▸ iCloud

Check iCloud settings for apps that can sync their settings and data between your Apple devices

Remember

  1. iCloud storage is given automatically. Standard volume - 5 GB;
  2. iCloud is needed to automatically synchronize settings and data between your devices;
  3. If you buy more iCloud storage, you can back up your iPhone and other devices to it.
  4. Additional iCloud space will also allow you to free up space on your phone.
  5. If you lose your phone, you can access all of its information through iCloud on the web.

Among the numerous Apple-branded services created by companies exclusively for their users, there are a number of those that everyone must be able to manage without fail. One such service is iCloud cloud storage.

Still don't know what a "cloud" is? Then read this article, in which we will tell you what cloud storage is and how to use the iCloud service on iPhone.

Cloud storage (cloud) is a remote server / servers of a third-party company, which, under certain conditions, provides users with the opportunity to store their data on them. Using the cloud, you can be sure that even if the device is lost or stolen, the information will be restored.

iCloud is a cloud storage created by Apple for users who use "apple" products. 5 gigs on Apple servers is provided to users for free. If you need more space you have to pay.

iCloud: initial setup

iCloud does not need to be specially installed, it is already integrated into iOS, and not as a separate program, but as a special section in the Settings menu. In order to start using the "apple" cloud, you need to specify the Apple ID parameters in the appropriate section.

If your iPhone is running iOS 10.3 or later, then to sign in to iCloud:

If you have, say, an iPhone 4 or 4S, or an even older model (well, you never know), then iOS 10.3 is no longer available to you. This means that the iCloud login scheme will be slightly different:

However, perhaps you have, say, an iPhone 5S or even an iPhone 6, but you have not updated to the latest available iOS, then the second instruction will also work in your case.

iCloud Management

Well, iCloud was found, “registered”, now let's start studying the functionality and setting the necessary parameters.

Synchronization

In the iCloud menu, we see a bunch of incomprehensible sliders that can be turned on or off. All this is great, but what to do with all this? Look, the main iCloud option is to synchronize your data with your Apple ID, which means that the information that appears on the iPhone is automatically transferred to the cloud, and, in addition, to all other gadgets on which your Apple ID is registered. If you have only one "apple" device, the information is synchronized only with the remote storage.

Use the sliders to set the types of information that you want to sync and what you don't. That is, if you need to store phone book numbers in the cloud, the Contacts slider is activated. But you, say, do not want to store reminders, which means that the slider remains off. Of course, the temptation to store everything at once is great, they say, everything will come in handy on the farm, but you need to remember that there is only 5 GB of free space.

As you explore the iCloud menu, you'll quickly notice that some of the items have subsections, rather than just an activation/deactivation slider opposite. There are currently four such items - "Photos", "Keychain Access", "Find iPhone" and "iCloud Backup". Also a separate line is iCloud Drive. Let's take a look at each of these sections in order.

A photo

In fact, there is nothing special in this section. It is similar to other "slider" items - contacts, calendars, etc. Simply, since the photos weigh a lot, the user is given the opportunity for additional settings.

For example, there is a slider "Upload photo series". If you take photos in burst mode, only the best shots are added to the cloud by default, to save space, of course. Can all burst photos be uploaded to iCloud? Yes! But then you should activate the "Upload photo series" slider.

Bunch of keys

But this “thing” is more interesting. In this section, there is only one slider "Keychain in iCloud", by activating it you automatically transfer all passwords and payment information from the iPhone, on which you turn on the option to other devices on which your Apple ID is registered. When you activate the option, you need to confirm the action from a "friendly" device.

Find iPhone

More to come, Find My iPhone is arguably the most useful additional section of iCloud. This option implements two mechanisms. The first one will appeal to those who are forgetful. Imagine this picture - you put your smartphone on silent mode, put it somewhere and safely forgot where. Now you need it, but how to find it?

If you managed to set the “Find iPhone” slider to the active position before losing it, then:

Agree, the opportunity is cool? However, the second option "Find My iPhone" is even cooler. If you lost your device not at home, but you yourself don’t know where or if it was stolen from you, then using iCloud.com you can use the “Lost Mode” button to leave a message and your contacts to the person who found the device. This will lock your iPhone and display the message you left on the lock screen.

Moreover, if the smartphone was stolen, the thief will most likely try to bypass the lock screen and reset the lost mode by restoring the device through iTunes. However, with the Find My iPhone option turned on, after recovery (as well as after updating and resetting parameters), the username and password of the Apple ID of the owner will be requested. If the parameters are not entered, the smartphone cannot be used. There is no way around this request. Thus, the device in the hands of the thief turns into a piece of unnecessary metal and his only way to make money on theft is to return the iPhone to the owner for a fee.

iCloud backup

Another interesting iCloud section. By going into it, you can activate the "Backup to iCloud" slider, while you turn on the automatic creation of backups - they will be performed whenever the iPhone is on charge and connected to Wi-Fi. If you want to create backups manually, leave the slider off and click "Create backup" - do not forget to periodically return to the menu and click this button again if you want the data in the copy to be updated.

However, we hasten to note that the backup option is possible - this is already an unnecessary measure, because by setting the synchronization parameters using the sliders of the main menu, you are actually duplicating important information in the cloud. The only point is that when backing up to the cloud, more types of data are sent than when synchronizing, but not all of it is actually needed. No, of course, if free space in the cloud were unlimited, why not store everything at once. But if you save space, why store all your correspondence in instant messengers, and they also go into a backup copy. So think about it, maybe you just need synchronization.

iCloud Drive

And finally, iCloud Drive. This option, having appeared in the iCloud section, confused everyone quite a bit. However, very quickly everyone figured out what was what. A little higher, we already mentioned the iCloud.com site, on it, by specifying the Apple ID parameters, you can view the synchronized information. However, users have long complained that this is not very convenient and it is high time to create something like Dropbox or Yandex.Disk for iCloud. And so Apple came up with iCloud Drive.

To start using iCloud Drive, you need to move the corresponding slider in the iCloud menu on your iPhone to the active position, and then use the levers below to specify which programs information is allowed to sync with iCloud Drive.

Now go to the Home screen, look for the application of the same name on it and open it. If you've ever used Dropbox, you'll immediately recognize the interface. Here you can create various folders and drop the contents of allowed programs into them.

For example, you created a document in Pages on your iPhone, but want to continue on your iPad or Macbook - just drop the file into the iCloud Drive app and open it on the device on which you want to edit it or complete it, of course, through the same application. On all Apple devices, it is installed by default. If you want to use the drive on a Windows PC, you will have to install it first.

Let's summarize

Well, as you can see, iCloud functionality is quite wide. The main functions of the service are data synchronization with the cloud and backups, but additional options are no less interesting and some deserve a separate article. You can read more about the iCloud service in a special section of the Apple website, and if this or that moment raises questions, you can always contact the Russian-language support service of the "apple" giant for help.
