Disk Drill - recover photos, contacts, messages and more from an android smartphone. Android data recovery with Disk Drill

Want to recover deleted files on Mac OS X such as important business documents, music, photos or videos? Have files or entire partitions disappeared from your Mac? Having trouble accessing your flash drive or memory card? We will help you by providing simple and reliable data recovery for Mac OS X.

Disk Drill will help you not only recover data. The program also contains useful hard drive tools to help you clean up your Macintosh, find duplicate files, create backups, and monitor the disk's health. By downloading Disk Drill, you will receive comprehensive protection for the entire disk.

Disk Drill allows you to scan and recover data from any device, including Macintosh hard drives, external hard drives, cameras, iPhone, iPad, iPod, Android devices, flash drives, Kindle, and memory cards. In many cases, Disk Drill will scan your device even if it is unstable, unreadable, or has corrupted partitions. Using powerful algorithms, Disk Drill provides reliable data recovery for Mac.

Disk Drill knows how to recover data on Mac OS X the easiest way. Just one click launches a powerful scanning process that will show a list of files to be recovered. By previewing these files, you can easily determine which of them will be successfully restored. If you use data protection features, some file recovery methods on your Mac will be free. If not, just a small update will allow you to recover deleted files and continue working.

Does the hard drive or memory card suddenly stop being detected or appear empty? Maybe it's because of a corrupted partition. Your data may still be on the media, but the "map" that the system needs to locate the data may be lost. Disk Drill will recover damaged partitions and return your data if it is still there. All connected devices are supported. Depending on the type of file system, different data recovery algorithms are used. Even if the device has been formatted, the data can still be recovered.

It can happen to anyone, especially when it comes to mobile devices: You can accidentally delete photos, messages or documents. But don't worry, Disk Drill 3 will help you recover all your lost information on Android.

Accidentally clicked in the wrong place? We will help you get your deleted data back on iPhone or iPad. Disk Drill can recover various file formats on your iOS device such as call history, contacts, messages and more.

Each of us has had such situations when we could not find a certain file, and then sadly remembered that it was deleted. And if on a PC running OC Windows and Mac OS, data recovery is an ordinary matter, then not everyone can handle data recovery from a smartphone.

But it's not that difficult if you use the Disk Drill app.

Disk Drill is a cross-platform application for quickly recovering various types of data from popular information sources. The program has existed for more than a month, many users have already fallen in love with it, and after a recent update, it also acquired support for mobile devices. Accordingly, it allows you to recover lost information from gadgets based on OC Android and iOS. Naturally, we are interested in the first option, but we will not forget to mention other key features of the utility.

To recover data from any android device, we need a full-fledged computer with the Disk Drill utility installed, a USB cable and a patient - a mobile device with lost data. Next is the matter of technology.

We launch Disk Drill, connect the mobile to the PC and scan the connected gadget. No training and additional programs are required. The only thing you need to have enabled on your smartphone is USB debugging in the settings.

During the scanning process, we will see all kinds of files to recover, they will be grouped by type, for example, photos, videos, documents, and so on. The program allows you to recover almost all data so that it has ever been on our device and has not yet been “overwritten”. If Disk Drill did not find the files we need the first time, then it is recommended to use a deep scan. It will last longer, but its result should certainly please you.

When restoring a file, you can preview it if it is a picture or video, and listen to it if it is an audio file. And if we need a specific file, then we can use the search and various sorting options.

Thus, we can recover up to 100 MB of data. Why exactly? Yes, because these are the limitations of the free version of Disk Drill. Agree that this amount of data is more than enough to restore all contacts, SMS messages, and even a couple of dozen photos and documents. By the way, the paid version of the app costs $49.

A detailed list of files that are accessible for recovery can be found in the application settings. If necessary, you can turn off any specific formats so that scanning is faster.

Similarly, you can recover files from the iPhone, and from USB-drives, and from other devices. Everything is as simple as possible, clear and without unnecessary problems.

Disk Drill is a very simple, functional and hassle-free program that allows you to recover files from Android smartphones, tablets and removable storage devices without ROOT rights and other serious things. The free version of the utility is more than usable, but the paid one has no limits on the amount of information to be recovered and has more advanced functionality.

Today we will talk about a powerful, popular and useful utility called Disk Drill.

This application, thanks to its modules, allows you to perform a wide variety of hard disk operations, monitor its status, recover lost data, including iOS devices, perform smart hard disk cleaning, search for duplicate files, create backups and even a recovery disk. But first things first.

Duplicate Finder - search for duplicate files

The Duplicate Finder tool in Disk Drill will scan the disk for duplicates and free up extra space. It's also handy for your online storages like Dropbox and Google Drive. Network folders will also work.

How to use Duplicate Finder:

  • Drag or add an area to find duplicates.
  • Click Scan. Wait. See how much space can be recovered.
  • Select duplicates to remove, or use auto-select. Click "Delete". Ready.

We tested this tool and its result was more than impressive. Judge for yourself:

The program found 3404 duplicate files with a total volume of more than 30Gb. Very good.

Create a bootable recovery disk

To increase the chances of recovery, or in cases where the system partition is damaged, Disk Drill allows you to create a bootable recovery disk.

This tool will require a flash drive or any other writable media of at least 2 GB.

How to create a bootable recovery disk:

  • Select disk - Recovery source from those working on OS X 10.8.5+.
  • Select a disk that will be bootable.
  • Restart your Mac while holding the Option key. Select the "DiskDrill Boot" partition for safe data recovery.

Creating a backup

Disks fail, it's inevitable. Disk Drill can be used to create a byte-by-byte copy and recover data from it, rather than from a damaged disk.

How to backup DMG:

  • Select a drive or partition to backup.
  • Select a storage area for the backup. You may need another hard drive for backup. Click Save.
  • Wait for the backup to be created. Use Disk Drill's "Attach Disk Image" option to mount the disk image.

Disk Cleanup

The Cleanup module in Disk Drill will help you see where the free space on your hard drive has gone. By building a visual map of your files and folders, you can quickly delete what you don't need.

How to use Disk Cleanup:

  • Select a drive to render. Click Scan.
  • Wait. Look at the built visual map. Select a specific folder by clicking on "Select".
  • Select the required files and folders. Click "Delete".

As you can see from the screenshot, the program allows you to determine the most "loaded" folders, opening which you can see which files with the largest size take up space.

Data recovery

And of course, the main purpose of the program is data recovery.

It is noteworthy that Disk Drill recovers data not only from local drives, but also from flash drives, external hard drives, and even iOS mobile devices connected to the computer.

To begin with, we formatted our working flash drive in FAT32, then copied some images to it and deleted one of them.

After that, the process of searching for lost (deleted) data was launched.

The program not only found the deleted file, but also thousands of other files "living" on this flash drive before formatting!

Data recovery from iOS devices

iOS recovery in Disk Drill is based on iOS backup using iTunes. Whatever is in the backup, everything can be restored: photos, videos, audio, etc.

, and iPod with iOS 5 and above are supported.

Recovery starts by scanning the latest backup of the device.

After scanning, the program will display all found files that can be easily restored by clicking on the appropriate button.

How much is it?

Disk Drill is available as a free version - Basic package. With it, you can restore files, including protected ones, perform backups, view all recovery methods.

Those who are serious about the safety of their data and the health of hard drives will be interested in Disk Drill Pro. The issue price is $89. This is the full version of the program, with all modules and the ability to install on 3 computers.

Our verdict: Disk Drill definitely deserves the attention of all users of Mac computers and iOS devices.

Download Disk Drill from developers website

For those who are already familiar with the program, we inform you that the developers have recently released a major update to Disk Drill 3.

What's new:

Disk Drill for Windows is a free data recovery software for the Windows operating system. The Disk Drill program recovers data from a hard drive, external storage media (external hard drive, flash drive, memory card, etc.). Supported file systems: HFS/HFS+, FAT16/FAT32, NTFS, EXT3, EXT4 and others.

You can lose data from your computer due to accidental deletion, formatting, damage to the drive, loss of a partition, emptying the recycle bin, etc. It happens that very important information is lost, so it becomes necessary to recover deleted files.

The task of data recovery is solved by special programs with which the user can try to recover lost files. Why try? Because it is not always possible to restore files if the files are damaged or completely overwritten. This must be taken into account.

Disk Drill PRO for Windows is a special free version of the program for the Windows operating system. Disk Drill is well known to Mac OS X users. Two versions of the application are available for Mac OS X: free Disk Drill Basic and paid Disk Drill PRO.

Disk Drill has three recovery modes:

  • Undelete - undoes deleting files from a disk or media protected with Recovery Vailt

Disk Drill PRO program runs on Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP operating systems. You can download Disk Drill from the official website of the manufacturer: the American company CleverFiles.

Disk Drill Interface

After launch, the Disk Drill program detects for some time all the disks of the computer: hard drives, external drives connected to the computer. Disk Drill has a very simple English interface.

The main window of Disk Drill displays a list of disks on this computer: hard drive, external drives connected to the computer: flash drives, external hard drives, memory cards, etc. Opposite each disk there is a “Recover” button, then there is an arrow for entry to the context menu, with additional recovery options.

To protect this disk, using the "Protect" button, the "Recovery Vailt" mode is used. Using the button "Extras" (Advanced) you can create a disk image in DMG format, in order to recover data from the image, and not directly from the computer disk.

Data recovery in Disk Drill

Before restoring, close all programs currently running on the computer. When recovering, save the data on another drive to increase the chances of a positive result. Remember that it is not always possible to recover files, because files can be damaged or completely overwritten.

Of particular difficulty is the recovery of large files due to disk fragmentation. Fragments of a large file are located in different places on the disk. After the file is deleted, new data is written in place of the fragments. Therefore, data recovery programs are often unable to restore the entire file. Monitor the state of the computer, perform regularly.

Select a computer drive or external drive to restore files. A computer hard drive can have multiple partitions. In order not to scan the entire hard disk, but to immediately select the desired partition, click on the triangle-shaped button located to the right of the disk name. Select the desired hard disk partition.

To start file recovery, click on the "Recover" button, in this case, all recovery methods will be used. If you need to choose the recovery mode yourself, click on the arrow next to the "Recover" button. In the context menu that opens, select the desired action:

  • Run all recovery methods - run all recovery methods (default)
  • Undelete protected data - cancel deleting files using the Recovery Vault mode
  • Quick Scan - quick scan
  • Deep Scan - deep scan

After choosing a method, the search for deleted data on the selected disk will begin. For scanning, I chose an external USB drive (flash drive). The status of the scanning process is displayed on the panel in the program window.

The Disk Drill program window will display a list of detected files that are located in folders. Scanning can be stopped using the "Pause" button, or canceled by clicking on the "Cansel" button. The "Save Sessions" button saves data about the scanning session.

If the scanned disk is large, the scanning process will take a long time.

After the scan is completed, you will see folders with found files in the program window. By default, a list of all found files (All files) is displayed. The results can be filtered by file type: pictures (Pictures), video (Video), documents (Documents), audio (Audio), archives (Archives), by size (…by size), or by date (…by date).

Unfortunately, not all files can be restored, or completely restored. This must be taken into account when restoring information.

Click on the magnifying glass to view the file. The files to be recovered, such as images, you will see in the viewer.

For example, this image can be restored without problems.

In Disk Drill, you can recover an entire folder of files, or just individual files. In the Disk Drill window, mark individual files or folders for data recovery.

I selected the "Pictures" folder with images. By default, the program saves the recovered data to the "Documents" folder in the user's profile. If necessary, you can change the directory for saving the recovered files. To do this, click on the button in the form of a folder, which is located on the panel opposite "Recover to:".

To start the recovery process and save data, click on the "Recover" button on the panel.

After the recovery process is complete, go to the Documents folder (or other folder). The "Pictures" folder contains folders named after the image format, in this case "jpg". When you open the folder, you will see the recovered pictures.

Using Recovery Vault Mode

When using the Recovery Vailt mode, all files on the disk are indexed, the location of all fragments is recorded. This mode significantly speeds up and increases the chances of successful data recovery.

To enter the Recovery Vailt mode, click on the "Protect" button, which is located opposite the desired drive (hard drive, removable media, etc.).

After that, a window will open in which you can enable or disable the Recovery Vailt mode using the buttons: "ON" and "OFF".

In the window you will see two options:

  • Choose folder to protect - choose a folder to protect
  • Choose files to exclude from protection - select files to exclude from protection

Using the "Add folder" button, you can add files for protection. By default, some folders are added for protection in Recovery Vailt. You can remove a folder from the list of protected folders using the "Delete" button.

In a similar way, you can add files to exclusions that do not need to be protected from deletion. This option has also added some settings.

After clicking on the "Reset to defaults" button, you can reset the Recovery Vailt mode settings to default, in each option separately.

To go to the main window from the Recovery Vailt mode, click on the "Back" button.

Article Conclusions

Disk Drill PRO for Windows is a free file recovery software. With Disk Drill, you can recover lost data from your computer and external drives connected to your computer: images, video, audio, documents, archives, disk partitions, etc.

The procedure for recovering deleted data after emptying the recycle bin, formatting or deleting a disk partition has long been no longer a super task that only computer specialists can handle. Any more or less experienced user can try to recover their deleted data today, having understood the operation of special programs for file recovery. Fortunately, there are more and more of them, and they are designed not only for professionals in the field of IT, but also for ordinary people. The range of software programs that already existed on the software market for recovering user data such as Wise Data Recovery, Toolwiz File Recovery and Recuva from Piriform has recently been replenished with another product - the Disk Drill program. About it, in fact, will be discussed further. In this article, we will talk about the specifics of Disk Drill, and also consider how to work with this program.

1. About Disk Drill

In the Windows data recovery software market, Disk Drill is still a new product, but it is far from new in the Mac OS software market. With only one drawback in the form of the lack of support for the Russian language, Disk Drill has a lot of advantages. Among them - free use, simple and intuitive interface, product-level functionality for professional use.

Disk Drill for Windows can be downloaded for free from its official website.

Disk Drill can recover deleted files from disks - both from ordinary hard drives and from SSD drives, from flash drives and SD memory cards. Whether it's emptying the recycle bin, reinstalling Windows on a formatted system partition, or even deleting a disk partition, in all these cases the program will try to help you recover deleted photos, documents, the contents of your personal media library, archives, and other files. If the files were deleted not too long ago, if they are not already overwritten by other data, the chances of a successful recovery can be quite high.

In addition, the program can offer an additional feature Recovery Vault - a feature designed to guarantee and simplify the process of file recovery.

Despite the free distribution, Disk Drill, at the level of paid serious software, can recover data on a DMG image of a disk partition or removable drive created by the program itself. This helps prevent data corruption on the physical media.

2. Start scanning for deleted files

Apparently, the developers of Disk Drill had a tough task to create the simplest possible product for the layman. Having launched the program, in its window we will see the hard disk partition table and connected external storage drives. Near each section of the disk and device there will be three buttons for the main functions of the program. The first and most catchy of them is "Recover", a button to start the process of scanning deleted files on the selected disk partition or external media. But we will not rush to press it, since by default this button launches all software data recovery methods. It is more expedient to search for deleted files by using separate recovery methods. They are available in the drop-down list next to the "Recover" button. By clicking this list, we will see the following options:

  • Run all recovery methods- this is the same as pressing the "Recover" button, i.e., starting the file recovery process using all methods;
  • Undelete protected date- cancellation of deleting files as part of the Recovery Vault function;
  • Quick scan– start a quick scan of deleted files;
  • deep scan– start deep scanning of deleted files.

Select "Quick scan".

Why "Quick scan"? If, for example, a file has been deleted recently, it makes no sense to use a deep scan, since, most likely, such a file will be found during a quick scan. To simplify and speed up the procedure for recovering deleted data, it is better to start undoing file deletion first. Naturally, this is already in the future, when the Recovery Vault function is active. Then you need to resort to a quick scan, which, in fact, is chosen in our case, since Disk Drill has just been installed on the system and Recovery Vault is unlikely to be able to help at the moment. And only if at the end of the quick scan the desired deleted files are not found, you can run a deep scan and get distracted by your own business. Since deep scanning is a lengthy process, the program provides for pausing it and starting the continuation in the future, even after restarting the computer.

3. Recover deleted files

After launching a quick and deep scan in the program window, we will gradually observe the process of finding deleted data. In the default active tab "All files" we will see all the files found. You can narrow the search area for the desired deleted files by switching to other vertical tabs in the left part of the program window, where the data will be filtered by individual file types - pictures, video, audio, documents, archives. You can try to find the desired file by entering a key query in the search field at the top left.

You can also search for files in the list found by the Disk Drill program, focusing on the size or date of deletion. To do this, there are two corresponding options at the bottom left.

In the process of searching for, for example, the desired deleted pictures and photos, you can use the option to preview them.

By default, in Disk Drill, the folder where the recovered files will be placed is the Documents folder on the C drive. You can change this path.

Having ticked the necessary folders and files for recovery, click the "Recover" button.

We confirm the decision.

Upon successful recovery, we will see such a window.

4. Recovery Vault function

By activating the Recovery Vault feature, Disk Drill will keep track of all deleted files and capture their metadata for fast and successful recovery. To activate the Recovery Vault function, in the main program window, near the desired partition of the disk or removable media, click the "Protect" button.

Let's get into the settings window for this function. Set the switch on the top right to the "On" position. Expanding the “Choose folders to protect” option, we will see the pre-installed folders that are already protected by the Recovery Vault function. You can expand this list by adding your own folders or entire disk partitions and removable media using the "Add folder" button.

The option below - "Choose files to exclude from protection" - is a list of file types that will not be protected by the Recovery Vault feature. Exclusions for some types of system files are already set here. Using the "Add exclusion mask" button, you can add your own file types. You need to register them according to the pattern of pre-installed file types.

As mentioned, you can recover deleted files from folders protected by the Recovery Vault function using the "Undelete protected date" option in the drop-down list next to the "Recover" button in the main program window.

Have a great day!
