Charger "Cedar": description, instructions. Review of chargers for car batteries of the "Cedar" series Charger for batteries cedar car 4a

Device charger Kedr AUTO 4A is intended for charging and restoring the performance of 12-volt acid lead batteries, partially lost as a result of sulfation and oxidation of the electrodes, as well as training them through charge-discharge cycles in order to increase their resource, service life and storage.

The Kedr AUTO 4A device provides automatic shutdown when charging is complete in the “AUTOMATIC” mode. The device is equipped with a dial indicator (ammeter) and a light indicator, which: when the “AUTOMATIC” mode is turned on, does not light up; when the charge is complete in the “AUTOMATIC” mode - flashes; When the “CYCLE” mode is turned on, it glows evenly.

The KEDR-AUTO device provides an accelerated charging mode for a completely discharged (up to 10 V) battery at a compromise initial current value of 3 - 4 A. Moreover, after 1 - 2 hours (depending on the degree of battery discharge and network voltage), the value of the charging current decreases to a value of about 2 A and continues to decrease towards the end of the charge to 1 A or less. This mode eliminates significant heating of the battery during charging and reduces the charging time of a completely discharged battery to 3 - 6 hours.

Before you start using the device, you must study the rules for the care and use of rechargeable batteries.

If you can’t buy it, you can easily assemble it yourself. Which is what I did. I used imported transistors VS556b (pnp) and bc337-40 (npn) instead of KT315 and KT361. The photo shows the factory charger board and my homemade one.

Factory boardautomatic charger

Homemadeboard assembly

I assembled this device, checked it - it works great, I like it. This charger has:

- automatic mode

- desulfate mode

- constant charge mode (to full capacity)

- protection against incorrect connection and short circuit.

- in cyclic mode, after 45 seconds of charging, 15 seconds of discharging follow.

It will be useful to make a small improvement to the memory. Complete disconnection from the 220V network at the end of the charge, so to speak, for every fireman. Disconnecting the Kedr-M charger from the network when the LED lights up " end of charging" can be performed on a triac or relay. The command to turn on/off can be taken from the collector of transistor VT1, adding another transistor turned on in key mode, and using it to switch the power to the relay winding or the current through the LED of the optocoupler that controls the triac. The circuit was assembled and tested: vovcanchin.

Discuss the article AUTOMATIC CHARGER DIAGRAM

To extend the life of your car starter battery, regular maintenance is required. One of the mandatory items is maintaining a normal charge level. This is especially true for winter operation, since due to the large number of powerful consumers and severe frosts, the car’s standard voltage relay is not able to fully charge the battery.

Device overview

The charger is made in a small plastic case (185x130x90 mm). The low power of the device determined its light weight.

On the front panel there are:

  • Pointer ammeter for monitoring charge current;
  • LED indicator of operating mode;
  • Mode switch “Cycle - Automatic”.

A power cord and wires with terminals for connecting the battery come out from the back of the device.

Technical characteristics of the device Kedr Auto 4a

This charger provides a charge current of up to 4 A. This is quite enough to maintain the capacity of not completely discharged batteries. Other technical characteristics:

WET batteries are standard lead-acid batteries with liquid electrolyte. Do not try to charge an AGM, EFB or GEL battery with this charger.

The charger kit includes instructions for use, which detail the procedure for operating and possible malfunctions with the order of their elimination.

Features of the device and for which batteries it is suitable

The automatic charger is designed to charge lead-acid batteries with a capacity of 40 to 75 A/h.

Important! The larger the battery capacity, the longer it will take to charge. Moreover, many manufacturers recommend setting the charge current equal to 1/10 of its capacity. Therefore, this device is not recommended for regular charging of high-power batteries with a high degree of discharge.

The device has built-in protection against incorrect switching on - polarity reversal. There is no output voltage and charging current in the following cases:

  • Incorrectly connected battery;
  • High degree of discharge (voltage at the battery terminals is less than 10 V);
  • No battery.

Kedr Auto 4a has two operating modes - “automatic” and “cycle”. Each operating mode uses its own charging algorithm.

The operation indicator light has the following modes:

  • Extinguished – “Automatic” mode;
  • Flashing – in “Automatic” mode the charge is complete;
  • Continuous light – “Cycle” mode is on.

Machine

This mode is the main one and is designed to charge batteries without user intervention. The logic of operation is such that when a discharged battery is connected, the device begins to output maximum current, which decreases as the charging process progresses. When the voltage at the battery terminals reaches 13.2 V, the charge automatically stops.

Important! The initial current depends on the degree of discharge of the battery, but does not exceed 4A in the most extreme case.

Cycle

The mode is designed to restore batteries with signs of sulfation. In cyclic mode, the charge alternates with a short-term discharge with a low current, which promotes the dissolution of large sulfate crystals in the active mass of the plates.

How to charge the battery using Kedr Auto 4a

Usage automatic device simplifies battery maintenance as much as possible and allows it to be performed regularly without significant time investment.

Procedure:

  • Connect the battery to the output terminals of the device;
  • Connect the device to the power supply;
  • By pressing the button on the front panel, select the required operating mode.

Important! In the case of desulfation ("Cycle" mode), it is necessary to connect a load in parallel to the output terminals - a 12 V 6 W car lamp, through which a training discharge of the battery will be carried out.

Using a more powerful lamp will increase the discharge current, resulting in longer charging times. A weak load, on the contrary, will not give the desired effect.

During the charging process, it is necessary to control the density of the electrolyte. The absence of an increase in density with an undercharged battery indicates that desulfation is necessary.
