Is it possible to drink when planning pregnancy?

When planning a pregnancy, doctors recommend completely eliminating mint in any form from the diet. This warning is due to the presence of menthol, which suppresses the action of gonadotropic activity in the hypothalamic-pituitary system, and thus reduces the action of hormones important for proper conception.

At the same time, mint normalizes the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, strengthens the immune system and nervous system, which has a positive effect on the condition of the entire body. Based on this, each woman should personally decide whether to use mint or not.

Mint for pregnant women

Many who know about the properties of mint often have a question: is it possible to drink tea from this plant while pregnant? Let's consider whether this drink is suitable for pregnant women and what features of use depending on the period.

In the early stages

At the beginning of pregnancy, peppermint helps against toxicosis, which manifests itself in the form of morning sickness. Since it is a mild anesthetic, there is a slight effect on the gastric mucosa. To alleviate the unpleasant condition, you can use the following remedies:

  1. Cool tea. It is consumed before meals.
  2. Warm decoction. You can not only drink it, but also use it for simple rinsing.
  3. Fresh leaf. Rub it between your fingers and inhale the aroma.
There are no contraindications unless there are any individual restrictions. With your doctor's permission, you can enjoy your favorite drink, which will help solve some problems with the body.

Important! Drinks can be prepared not only from fresh or dry leaves, but also from pharmaceutical mint, which is packaged in convenient tea bags.

In the later stages

For pregnant women in the 2nd trimester, mint helps with feelings of heaviness in the abdomen, as well as bloating and diarrhea. To reduce these unpleasant sensations, just add a few fresh leaves of this aromatic plant to a salad or other dish that cannot be cooked.
At this time, the use of mint is allowed in the following cases:

  1. When itching appears on the abdomen as a result of severe stretching of the skin, and on the legs due to problems in the functioning of the gallbladder.
  2. During times of fear and anxiety. And as you know, these sensations often accompany a woman throughout almost the entire period of pregnancy.
When your pregnancy reaches the 3rd trimester, it is better to avoid mint as the relaxation obtained from this plant can cause premature labor.

Depending on the type, mint has different effects on lactation. Substances from peppermint, after consumption by the mother, will certainly enter the baby’s body and have a negative effect in the form of a decrease in blood pressure.

In addition, menthol when feeding a baby can cause heart rhythm disturbances and even lead to cardiac arrest. In addition, menthol contains estrogen, which suppresses testosterone, therefore, it is undesirable to feed a boy with such milk. However, despite the disadvantages, tea with two mint leaves is useful during breastfeeding, as it causes a rush of milk, which is important for unstable lactation.
Curly mint, unlike the previous type, is completely harmless for a nursing mother. The presence of carvone in this type of mint instead of menthol makes it useful for breastfeeding, as it stimulates lactation. However, it is always necessary to monitor the baby’s condition during feeding, and if any unpleasant sensations appear, it is immediately recommended to stop drinking any mint-based drinks.

98% of women of reproductive age experience irregularities in their menstrual cycle. One of the common violations is a delay in menstruation. Modern medicine offers a number of remedies that can correct this disorder. However, when for some reason drug therapy is impossible, the fair sex resorts to folk remedies. This article will tell you what herbs to use to induce menstruation and how to take them in order to achieve maximum effect and not harm your health.

About delayed menstruation

Nature arranges it in such a way that a woman’s periods occur regularly, at regular intervals that make up the menstrual cycle. This is a well-functioning mechanism regulated by sex hormones, the main of which are estrogens and progesterones.

The first half of the cycle is regulated by estrogens: they are responsible for the maturation of the egg, which, during the ovulatory period, leaves the ovary, ready for fertilization. The egg, leaving the follicle, ruptures it, after which the corpus luteum (permanent gland) is formed, where the hormone progesterone is produced. Its task is to prepare the inner mucous layer of the uterus to receive a fertilized egg. When this does not happen, this layer, called the endometrium, is rejected by the body and is excreted as menstruation.

It happens that this complex process fails under the influence of various factors, hormonal imbalance occurs and, as a result, disruptions occur in the menstrual cycle. Most often this is expressed in a delay in menstruation, sometimes menstruation comes earlier than expected.

If there is a delay, we can say that the body does not have enough progesterone to independently “trigger” endometrial rejection. Sometimes menstruation comes, but in very scanty quantities, expressed as bloody or brown smudges.

The cause of the delay is often pregnancy, so you should not immediately try to treat the problem, but you need to do a test and rule out the fact of conception.

Reasons for delay with a negative test

If pregnancy is not confirmed, then menstruation may be delayed due to hormonal imbalance, which occurs for the following reasons:

  1. The first year after menarche, when the menstrual cycle is just establishing itself.
  2. Beginning of menopause. Regula sometimes does not come for several months before menopause.
  3. Stress, busy schedule.
  4. Physical exercise.
  5. Excess or, conversely, critically low weight.
  6. Poor lifestyle and nutrition, lack of protein foods.
  7. Frequent abortions and use of emergency contraception.
  8. Incorrectly selected hormonal contraceptive drugs.
  9. Endocrinological diseases.
  10. Gynecological diseases and pathologies.
  11. Postpartum period.

Means for inducing menstruation

The listed reasons may delay the onset of critical days. Those. the physiological state of the female body or disease is the reason that the next menstruation does not occur and their onset must be provoked.

Situations often arise when it is necessary to induce menstruation due to other circumstances. This could be an important planned event, intimacy, an upcoming operation, when the onset of women's days is simply inappropriate.

This should be done with great caution and only with the permission of a doctor, since any interference with the natural course of the cycle can lead to serious problems.

For these purposes, hormonal drugs such as Duphaston or Postinor are used. But there are many contraindications for these medications. Some representatives of the fairer sex are afraid to take this kind of pill, fearing side effects in the form of obesity.

Many people induce menstruation at home, taking ascorbic acid the old fashioned way, while at the same time warming their legs for a long time in hot water. Such methods of inducing menstrual periods are effective in 60% of cases, but they bring with them many problems: taking ascorbic acid on an empty stomach increases acidity, and prolonged hot foot baths often increase blood pressure and cause dizziness.

Video. Unusual properties of mint

Moderate period pain is completely normal. Approximately 70% of women feel it, but it does not cause severe discomfort, and in the worst case, you can always take a painkiller. But sometimes the pain becomes so severe that it begins to interfere with normal life.

Taking painkillers for several days is not the best way to solve the problem, as they all have side effects. But not everyone can endure pain and smile. Therefore, women are looking for safer ways to relieve menstrual pain.

Why does your stomach hurt during menstruation (Video)

During menstruation, the uterus periodically contracts, expelling everything unnecessary. If a woman has too sensitive receptors in the abdominal cavity, then each contraction may result in pain. Pain can also occur if the uterus is slightly tilted back and puts pressure on the nerve centers.

Our sensations, as well as the activity of the uterus, are highly dependent on hormonal levels. If a woman has elevated estrogen levels, which is more often the case in her 30s, then her periods will be painful, heavy and long. If all the hormones “jump”, then painful periods will be normal, as well.

The occurrence of severe pain during menstruation is usually associated with an imbalance between sex hormones and prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are special chemicals that lead to most of the unpleasant symptoms during menstruation. They are produced in the uterus and stimulate its contraction. The more prostaglandins in the body, the stronger the uterus contracts, and the stronger the pain will be. In addition, excess amounts of prostaglandins can cause nausea, headache, vomiting, sweating and tachycardia.

During menstruation, you should not go to the bathhouse or sauna, as this may increase bleeding.

Sometimes pain during menstruation is associated with certain diseases - inflammatory processes, endometriosis and others. In addition, painful sensations can occur with incorrect position of the uterus and its underdevelopment, as well as with increased excitability of the central nervous system.

It is normal to experience increased pain when using an intrauterine device. This is associated with the presence of a foreign body in the uterus, as well as with the activation of prostaglandin synthesis during intrauterine contraception.

How to prevent discomfort

Most women try to get rid of period pain with medication, but sometimes you can simply prevent the pain from occurring.

To make menstruation less painful you need to:

  • try to lead a more active lifestyle, exercise moderately;
  • stop drinking alcohol;
  • avoid severe stress;
  • learn to relax, for example, through meditation;
  • avoid hypothermia;
  • If pain occurs, place a warm heating pad on the lower abdomen and lie down in the fetal position.

It is very important to lead a healthy lifestyle and eat right. To prevent pain during menstruation, before it begins, you can stop eating dairy, meat, and animals. It will be useful to drink vegetable juices and take combined vitamin and mineral complexes.

It is not recommended to carry out any operations, even dental and cosmetic ones, during menstruation, since at this time the blood clots worse.

To analyze the causes of pain and find relief from them, you can keep a special diary. You just need to write down all your sensations, while simultaneously noting your activities, diet and other features.

Making natural pain relievers

To get rid of painful sensations during menstruation, it is not necessary to take medications; you can try folk remedies based on medicinal herbs. They often help as well as pills. For example, herbal infusions that have a diuretic effect often help get rid of cramping in the stomach. Hot teas with raspberries, mint, and chamomile help very well. You should drink them in small sips.

Oregano has long been known as a “female herb”. It is necessary to prepare an infusion from it. The recipe for such an infusion is 2 tablespoons of herbs per two glasses of boiling water, you need to infuse for half an hour. You should drink this infusion three times a day, about half an hour before meals. It relieves not only pain during menstruation, but also pain in the intestines.

It also helps relieve pain and bark. You need to mix 4 tablespoons of bark with a glass of water and boil for half an hour. Take it one tablespoon three times a day before meals.

Raspberry infusion also helps a lot. To prepare it, you need to pour 3 teaspoons of raspberry leaves with a glass of boiling water and leave for 20 minutes. This tea will relieve headaches during menstruation and ease your general condition.

You should not take any tests during your period - their results may be distorted.

A good remedy is an infusion of medicinal chamomile flowers and lemon grass (lemon balm) in equal quantities. The mixture of herbs is poured with boiling water and infused for 30 minutes. It is recommended to drink this tea both during menstruation and a few days before it begins. This will improve your mood and relieve back pain.

In addition, you need to remember that stress is one of the causes of pain during menstruation. Therefore, you can drink teas from soothing herbal teas every day.

Compresses, baths, massages for painful menstruation

If you don’t want to take medications, neither pharmaceutical nor herbal, then you can look for other methods of getting rid of pain. For example, you can get rid of chest pain during menstruation simply by drinking plenty of fluids. If you drink at least 10 glasses of water daily, the pain will become much less.
You can also take a warm, relaxing bath before bed to relieve chest pain. But it is necessary to strictly control the water temperature - hot baths are contraindicated during this period. If you add a little fir oil to such a relaxing bath, it will also help get rid of pain in the ovaries.

Heat will help relax muscles and get rid of severe pain. You can apply warm compresses to your stomach. Warm compresses applied to the legs also help. After a relaxing bath and warm compress, wrap yourself in a blanket. This procedure, carried out before bed, will help reduce pain and improve the quality of sleep.

If you have painful menstruation, you should stop using tampons and use them exclusively, changing them as often as possible. You should also avoid sex if you have severe pain. Of course, you should exclude strong physical activity.

Fasting for a day before your period can help relieve pain.

Massage can be a good remedy for pain during menstruation. The painful area of the abdomen can be easily massaged in a clockwise circular motion. You can also massage your lower back. To do this, you can take two tennis balls and put them in a bag or socks, put them on the floor and lie with your back on the balls. The balls should be located at the level of the lower back. For five minutes you just need to roll on the balls. Another type of massage is pinching or massage of the outer thighs. This method will help with leg pain.

It is best to combine several methods, this will make them more effective. Methods such as massage and warming can be combined with medication. But taking herbal infusions should not be combined with tablets, as this can lead to unpredictable consequences.

When is it necessary to contact a gynecologist?

Although in most cases pain during menstruation is absolutely normal, there are situations that should make you wary and consult a gynecologist. One of these situations is a significant increase in painful sensations and an increase in their duration. If the pain lasts longer than usual, this is a dangerous symptom. A sharp increase in pain is also dangerous.

It is necessary to visit a gynecologist if the bleeding becomes more heavy than usual. If you have to change tampons or pads every hour or even more often, then this is a good reason to see a doctor. Another dangerous symptom is the appearance of nausea, vomiting, headache and diarrhea against the background of severe pain.

Sometimes yoga can help relieve pain.

If, against the background of severe pain during menstruation, symptoms of inflammation appear, such as fever, muscle and joint pain, sweating and chills, then this is also an indication for immediate contact with a gynecologist. In addition, you should be alert to any symptoms that hint at the possibility of infection, such as discomfort in the genital tract before menstruation, itching, unusual discharge and odor, urinary problems and, of course, a history of unprotected sexual intercourse.

This plant is no longer recognized by its appearance, but by its aroma, which is incomparable to anything fragrant and fragrant. The smell of mint is fragrant, slightly cooling - a symphony of aromas and freshness - is not forgotten for a long time and remains in the memory.

Mint tea - its beneficial properties and preparation

There are two options for a healing infusion - the actual brewed peppermint herb, and a mixture of green or black with mint. Connoisseurs can add honey and lemon to the drink.

It is more beneficial when a freshly picked sprig of mint is added to freshly brewed tea; the dry raw material no longer has that indescribable fragrance; during storage, the volatile essential substances of the medicinal plant evaporate quite quickly.

When preparing mint tea, the ingredients are taken in a 1:1 ratio; for a spoonful of tea leaves, take the same amount of crushed dry mint raw materials or 5-6 fresh leaves. Pour in not boiling water, but slightly cooled water, about 90 degrees. Let it brew for a quarter of an hour before using.

  • it should not be abused for hypotension;
  • Mint does not have a very good effect on male potency, especially with regular consumption of more than three cups per day;

During menstruation, we already have no time for fun, and pain only makes the situation worse. Sometimes we feel pain (cramps, headache) even before the onset of menstruation itself - this is how the so-called premenstrual syndrome (PMS) manifests itself, in addition, this pain can return from time to time during menstruation. There are several measures you can take to prevent pain symptoms from occurring. In addition, if pain does strike you at the wrong time, there are ways to relieve it. It is important to remember that each woman's body's sensitivity is individual, so it is worth trying several different methods until you find the one that is most effective for you.

Steps

Simple methods with available tools

    Balance your diet. It is important to maintain a balanced diet and eat regularly, spacing out approximately equal amounts of time between meals, this will help prevent (or reduce) menstrual pain. A balanced diet must contain whole grains, legumes, vegetables and fruits.

    Give preference to foods with a low glycemic load. Glycemic load is a value based on the glycemic index. In turn, the glycemic index determines how quickly foods (and therefore nutrients) pass through the gastrointestinal tract and are absorbed into the blood. A low glycemic index means that nutrients are slowly digested and absorbed into the bloodstream slowly, without causing large spikes in sugar levels.

    • Examples of low glycemic load foods include whole grain bread, apples, grapefruit, oranges, peaches, watermelon, carrots, lentils, peas and soy.
    • Foods with a high glycemic load are the following: bagels and bagels, corn flakes, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes.
    • More information about most of the most popular foods and their glycemic index can be found here:
  1. Eliminate foods high in fat and sodium from your diet. Foods that contain a large amount of fat (as well as processed foods) should be excluded from your diet. Additionally, it would be very beneficial to reduce your sodium intake. Foods containing large amounts of sodium can increase pain during menstruation.

    Drink less alcoholic beverages. In the days before your period, try to significantly reduce your alcohol intake. There is evidence that alcohol increases pain, discomfort and other symptoms during menstruation.

    Avoid caffeine. Drinks and foods containing caffeine may also increase cramping and bloated sensations. Caffeine constricts blood vessels, increases blood pressure and intensifies cramps. When you quit caffeine, these effects do not occur.

    • Therefore, you should exclude coffee and strong tea from your diet a week before the expected onset of your period.
  2. Try relaxation techniques. Very often, pain during menstruation, which is one of the symptoms of PMS (premenstrual syndrome), can intensify due to stress, anxiety and other negative emotions, which cause a response of the entire body as a whole. Try different relaxation techniques to relieve tension - this may help reduce pain and discomfort.

    • Relaxation techniques include breathing exercises, meditation and yoga. Sign up for yoga classes at a sports studio or recreation and fitness center - they will teach you how to properly perform special breathing exercises and show you other relaxing meditation techniques.
    • Massage is another great way to relieve stress and relax. Every month, book a massage right before your period is due to help you cope with pain and discomfort during your period.
  3. Learn acupuncture massage. The fact is that there are certain acupuncture points on our body, for example, on the inside of the leg (about three cm above the ankle). It is possible that stimulating these points will help reduce pain and cramps.

    To relieve headaches, try applying small pieces of ice. The fact is that right before the onset of menstruation, hormonal levels change greatly, which causes headaches and sometimes even migraines. One way to relieve a headache is to apply a wet, cold piece of cloth or ice to the head or neck (to the place where the pain is most felt).

    • If you do decide to apply ice, you must first wrap it in a towel. Never apply ice (or frozen objects) directly to the skin, as this can cause irritation and even local frostbite!
  4. Exercise regularly. Exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, and physical activity can help reduce cramps and other discomfort during your period. The two most effective types of exercise are yoga and aerobics.

    Take a warm bath or apply a heating pad to your stomach. A warm bath (or shower) and a heating pad can help reduce the frequency and duration of cramps during your period. The heating pad should be applied to the stomach (just below the navel).

    • Be careful not to fall asleep with a heating pad on your stomach! If possible, it is better to buy a heating pad for this purpose that automatically turns off after a certain time.
  5. Talk to your doctor about taking prescription medications. If the pain during your period is so severe that it interferes with your normal life and activities, you may need to ask your doctor for a prescription for stronger medications.

    Consider starting to take hormonal oral contraceptives regularly. Even if you don't take birth control for contraception, it still significantly helps relieve many of the unpleasant symptoms of PMS (including pain). There are several important things to know about these drugs:

    • Hormonal contraceptives include oral contraceptives (in pill form), patches, vaginal rings, and Depo-Provera injections.
    • Birth control pills (for one month) usually contain 21 active tablets and 7 placebo tablets. Some drugs don't have these seven placebo pills; instead, the instructions simply tell you not to take the pills for seven days. By reducing the number of days you are supposed to take placebo pills, you can reduce the occurrence of unpleasant PMS symptoms.
    • An alternative solution may be to not take placebo pills. This means that you will need to take the tablets with the active substance for 21 days, and then immediately start the next pack (which contains the tablets with the active substance).
    • Birth control pills from different manufacturers may contain different levels of estrogen (as the active ingredient). By lowering your estrogen levels (by changing the drug or type of birth control), you can avoid severe discomfort during your period because your estrogen levels will not change as much.
    • Placebo tablets can be replaced by regular nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, low-strength estrogen tablets, or an estrogen patch. Again, this will help control your estrogen levels before and during your menstrual cycle and help reduce unpleasant symptoms.
    • Keep in mind that every woman's and girl's body reacts differently to birth control pills! Before you decide to switch to contraceptives, ALWAYS CONSULT WITH A DOCTOR, because the dose and type of the required drug should be selected individually and only by a doctor. Keep in mind that these drugs have their own side effects and contraindications. If you find that this method is not effective for you (or you do not need birth control at all), talk to your doctor about stopping taking it.

Add vitamins and other nutrients to your diet

  1. Consume more calcium. Calcium helps prevent (or reduce) not only pain, but also other unpleasant symptoms of PMS. Our bodies get calcium from dairy products, fortified soy drinks, canned salmon and sardines, and leafy greens.

    • You can also normalize your body's calcium levels with calcium supplements (500–1200 mg per day).
  2. Add more magnesium to your diet. Low magnesium levels can cause an increase in many of the unpleasant symptoms of PMS, including headaches and cramps. Start consuming more foods fortified with magnesium, such as sunflower seeds, nuts, lentils, beans, whole grains and green vegetables.

  3. Increase the level of vitamin B6 in the body. Vitamin B6 is involved in the production of serotonin. In turn, serotonin helps reduce anxiety and depression that occur during menstruation. Vitamin B6 is found in large doses in beef, pork, chicken, fish, whole grain cereals, bananas, avocados and potatoes.

    • Vitamin B6 deficiency can be corrected with dietary supplements, but be careful and careful: do not take more than 100 g of vitamin B6 per day. An excess of vitamin B6 can be toxic to the body.
