Denis Cyplenkov: My goal is John Brzenk. Tsyplenkov, Denis Ivanovich Secrets of pumping up arms from D Tsyplenkov

World-famous armwrestler Denis Tsyplenkov is not inferior in appearance to many bodybuilders. Another 60 centimeter biceps is worth something, and in America they nicknamed him “The Hulk.” Although he is not a bodybuilder, I cannot help but write about such a person, since such people are worthy of respect. The country must know its heroes, otherwise it turns out that everyone knows Dima Bilan, but only a few know the champion of Russia, Europe and the World in arm wrestling. It’s up to you to decide who has done more for his career, but there will definitely never be an article about Dima Bilan here...

So Denis Ivanovich Tsyplenkov is from Ukraine (Krivoy Rog, March 10, 1982). From the age of six, young Denis has been attending various sports clubs. At the age of 11, he began to engage in kettlebell lifting, in which he achieved considerable results - at the age of 14, Denis became a candidate for master of sports in kettlebells. It must be said that he fulfilled the master of sports standard in kettlebells during training, but there was simply no money to travel to the competition, since in the early nineties the situation in Ukraine was no better than in Russia.

Since kettlebell lifting is not particularly popular in the world, Denis begins to engage in arm wrestling and, even before graduating from school, becomes the champion of Ukraine and Europe in arm wrestling among juniors. After graduating from school at the age of 17, Denis Tsyplenkov moved to Moscow, where he worked wherever he had to. Thanks to a happy accident, Denis meets Vladimir Turchinsky, who is trying to get a job at his fitness club “Marcus Aurelius”, but since he did not have any documents that he has the right to train people, he is refused. Soon Denis signs up for a three-month instructor course and within a month he is doing an internship at Marcus Aurelius, and after 2 months he officially works (according to unverified data, he still works there to this day).

In 2004, Vladimir Turchinsky opened a power extreme show for Russia, in which Denis began to participate and in the first tournament he won the overall competition. Over time, serious weightlifters and powerlifters such as Igor Pedan and Mikhail Koklyaev came to this show, who took the palm from the Chicks.

Since 2008, Denis Tsyplenkov began to be trained by the honored coach Kote Razmadze, who still trains him.

Anthropometric data of Denis Tsyplenkov:
Height: 186 cm
Weight: 140 kg
Biceps: 60 cm
Chest: 145 cm
Waist: 103 cm
Wrist: 24 cm
Shin: 50 cm
Neck: 48 cm

Athlete's strength indicators:
Bench press: 290 kg
Squats: 320 kg
Deadlift: 340 kg

In conclusion, I suggest you watch a couple of videos about Denis. The first video simply amazes Denis’s self-confidence, although his phrase “Yes, I actually defeat everyone” in one of the interviews also speaks of this, I advise you to look at Denis’s face in it.

Denis Tsyplenkov - where are my 16 years?

The future “armwrestler” was born in 1982 in the city of Krivoy Rog, which is located in Ukraine. Even before school, as a child, Denis was an active child, he never sat still, and constantly played with his peers in the yard. As soon as I went to school, I immediately signed up for as many different sections as possible of completely different types, such as football, volleyball and athletics.

At the age of 11, I felt a huge thirst and desire to engage in kettlebell lifting. Since childhood, he was characterized by great strength and endurance, which his peers did not have. Schoolchildren Tsyplenkov participated in many competitions, where his opponents were guys several years older than him. His love for kettlebell lifting kept him going even at the age of 14 and 16 until he graduated from school.

Tsyplenkov's childhood

At the age of 14, Denis Tsyplenkov, under the strict guidance and coach S.A. Yakimenko, fulfilled the standard for a candidate for master of sports. Having achieved a certain result, a very young guy decided to retrain from pushing weights into an arm wrestler, because kettlebell lifting was not popular and did not meet the proper level of attention from the public.

At a young age (16-17), Denis Tsyplenkov began to show excellent results at city, regional and regional competitions. The mentor of the young Denis Tsyplenkov was then Igor Moiseev, a repeated winner of rating competitions.

That same year there was a meeting that opened the door to serious sports for Denis.

It was impossible not to notice the young and natural athlete. Vladimir Turchinsky always tried to help young athletes - security forces. Denis came to the attention of Turchinsky, who played an important role in his fate. “Dynamite” was able to discern enormous untapped potential in Tsyplenkov and directed him in the right direction.

He invited the young arm wrestler to play in the famous Extreme Power League. While participating in the League, Denis gained enormous popularity among fans of strength sports. In parallel with hard training, the athlete, on Vladimir’s advice, completed a coaching course. This allowed him to work as a coach in Turchinsky’s famous strength club “Marcus Aurelius”.

Denis Tsyplenkov is perhaps the most extraordinary “silovik” in Russia. His external data can compete in brightness only with his strength indicators. Arm volume is 60 cm against the backdrop of a “shirtless” bench press of 270 kg!

Denis Tsyplenkov is perhaps the most extraordinary “silovik” in Russia. His external data can compete in brightness only with his strength indicators. Arm volume is 60 cm against the backdrop of a “shirtless” bench press of 270 kg! In Russia, Tsyplenkov bears the unofficial title of the strongest armwrestler in the country, and in the USA he is called only “HULK”. The legendary John Brzenk personally challenged the 28-year-old unique man to a fight in Las Vegas. How the duel of experience against youth and strength developed - about this and much more in an exclusive interview with Denis "Russian Monster" Tsyplenkov.

I come from Ukraine, born in the city of Krivoy Rog. I have been involved in strength sports since school. I started with weights, then became interested in arm wrestling. He performed quite successfully in juniors, but there were no prospects in Ukraine. No help from the state, only friends supported me. After winning the Europa, I went to visit my relatives in Moscow. The plan was to enter the Moscow Institute of Public Utilities and Construction. It didn’t work out because... had to earn a living. I worked everywhere: as a loader and washed cars! By the way, there I met the famous Moscow bodybuilder Evgeny Alaisky. He introduced me to Vladimir Turchinsky.

Roman Jabelov How was your first meeting with Turchinsky?

I arrived at Marcus Aurelius. I was met by manager Lyudmila Tuboltseva and fitness director Vladimir Turchinsky. The first and main question is - is there any kind of “crunch” that I have the right to train people? Naturally, I didn’t have the “paper.” But at that time I was already coaching the university’s arm wrestling team. I assured that I was familiar with the exercises and knew what and how to do. This did not suit them. In a word, I was denied a job. After some time, I found out that there are three-month courses, after which they issue the necessary document. I called Turchinsky and told him about my plans to “finish my studies.” Vladimir promised to consider a new opportunity to hire me. Within a month I had an internship at Marcus Aurelius, and a month later I was working full-time.

Roman Jabelov How did you get into strongman?

Volodya promoted extreme force. This sport appeared in Russia recently - in 2002-2003. Among the Soviet republics, Lithuania and Ukraine were the pioneers. If my memory serves me right, then "P.L.S.E." appeared only in 2004. Turchinsky did a lot for the development of extreme power sports. He was a strict director. I often received slaps on the head from him.

Roman Jabelov Do you remember your first Strong tournament?

Certainly! These were the first Russian strongman competitions in Balashikha. Volodya gathered his friends. 12 people spoke. Among the participants there were three European-level athletes. The exercises are funny, right down to loading the bags. I suggested that Turchinsky make arm wrestling one of the tests so that I could at least win somewhere. Volodya agreed. In the end, it turned out that I won the overall competition. I like it! Things got complicated. We found producer Alexey Shchepanovsky, who took upon himself the organization of the entire process. Turchinsky was the “face” and president of the League. From that moment on, the rise of “P.L.S.E.” began.

Roman Jabelov As I understand it, you were one of the first successful “strongs” in Russia. Then Igor Pedan and Mikhail Koklyaev appeared. You have gone into the shadows. Wasn't it a shame?

No. I understood that I was not involved in “lifting” and knew perfectly well my strength indicators and the indicators of powerlifters and weightlifters. Of course, I tried to catch up, but it was too late. I’ve been a weightlifter and an arm wrestler since school, and the kids from kindergarten carry iron. It was hard for me. Elbrus Nigmatulin came to the second competition. I came second after him. Ukrainians Pedan and Pekanov came to the third competitions. They tore us apart. After which, by the way, Igor Pedan ended up in the League in Odintsovo. There are a lot of strong guys coming up from powerlifting. It was hard to compete with them. In some exercises I can “shoot”, but in others it is simply unrealistic.

Roman Jabelov You talked a lot about "lifting". Why didn't triathlon work out for you?

When I came to the sports palace as a boy, there was only wrestling (I also did that), football and weights. If there was powerlifting, I would do it. Who knows, maybe it's a mess? I had to lift weights. I reached the KMS in them. I did “Masters” too, but in the gym. I didn’t go to the competition, it was unrealistic. In those days, parents simply weren’t paid. There was nothing to go to.

Roman Jabelov In strongman, the size of the athlete plays a big role. You're huge in most people's minds, but are you tall and heavy enough to compete in the Strongs?

There are enough dimensions! There are exercises that I can do at the leader level. But since there are 5-6 exercises in the competition part, I simply won’t be able to do a couple of them. This immediately throws you back to last place. Of course, you can make competitions “for yourself”. There are a lot of nuances in “strong” - from the list of exercises to the shape of the projectile. For example, the “Dikul weight” is 80 kg. None of the guests, with the exception of Zydrunas Savickas and Vidas Blikaitis, were able to lift it. Why? There is simply no other weight like it. There is nothing to train on.

Roman Jabelov The money that various types of "security officials" earn... can you live normally on it?

Of course not! The most offensive thing is that the athletes are helped not by the federation, but by kind people. Take the same powerlifting. There are countless versions in it: without doping control, with doping control, in “T-shirts”, without “T-shirts”, etc. Why is this being done? To improve athletes and earn more money from them. The athlete won and was given a medal and a chocolate bar. All! And the fact that he gave $500 for the opportunity to fulfill the standard?! 500-700 people come to the competition. Good business, I tell you. I love the bench press. I went to perform in Kursk. Fulfilled the MSMK standard. I received a crust, which, as it turned out, is not listed anywhere except this federation. Basically it's a piece of paper. At the international level, only one federation is recognized - the IPF. Everything else is commerce. Everything is more serious in arm wrestling. We have one federation. Trips to “Europe” and “world” are paid for. The prize money, however, is also small.

Roman Jabelov Let's talk about your return to armwrestling.

Basically, I forgot about arm wrestling for a while, I fought at the gym level and didn’t go anywhere. Over the years while I was engaged in extreme strength training, I also gained quite a lot of weight. Purely by chance I went to an armwrestling tournament and won there. Over the next two years, I met with all the leaders in this sport and performed well. I was invited to "Nemiroff", but they did it somehow abruptly - 2 weeks before the start. During this time it is impossible to prepare. I had to refuse. After some time, I asked Igor Mazurenko to organize a ticket for me to the next "Nemiroff". He explained that it was now necessary to qualify. The first stage was a tournament in Lotoshino. I prepared for two months, went and won. At the same time, we met Kote Razmadze, Alexey Voevoda’s coach, and now my coach. He invited me to meet with Lyosha and “spar.” The guys came to my club. We fought. It turned out well. I asked Kote to become my mentor and prepare me for "Nemiroff". Moreover, Lyosha plunged headlong into bobsleigh, although he loves arm wrestling with all his heart. A little more time passed. They called us and offered us an armfight with Andrey Pushkar on his left hand. I was very worried... and even afraid. I was “thrown” at the leader. The coach said: “we’ll get ready”! In the end, I won with my left hand and it charged me psychologically. Lyokha Voevoda flew to me for training 2-3 times. At "Nemiroff" I first met John Brzenk. I won the left hand, but lost to the American on the right.

Roman Jabelov What were your impressions of meeting the “legend”?

Back in Krivoy Rog, when I was just starting to train, my idol was John Brzenk. All the boys in the audience knew that the story of this man's life formed the basis of the film "From All Might" with Sylvester Stallone. And then I go out to fight him! I guess I was too worried... that's why I lost. And he lost easily. Upon returning to my homeland, I received an invitation to an armfight rematch with Brzenk. I was intensively preparing for our new meeting. Brzenk, as it turned out, did too. He gained 10 kg! The flight to Las Vegas took 16 hours. In addition, I began to have stomach problems. Because of the worries, the weight fell off. I wasn't 100% ready.

Roman Jabelov What is your optimal fighting condition?

140 kg. At the last "Nemiroff" I weighed 142 kg. Brzenk, by the way, competes in the category up to 95 kg, and in the absolute category he gains 10 kg. But weight is not the most important thing. When my trainer felt John's ligaments, they were much tighter than mine. In arm wrestling, ligaments play a vital role. Amazing athlete!

Roman Jabelov How did the public perceive you?

The Americans seemed to me to be very good-natured people. Naturally, everyone was rooting for Brzenk, but many people also came up to me to take pictures. They called me "HULK".

Roman Jabelov You have huge fingers. I can’t imagine how you can fight such a “HULK”? I heard that long fingers are an advantage in arm wrestling, is that true?

Long fingers are good. But there are different fighting techniques. Any professional will find an approach to long fingers. Mine are short and thick. That’s why I can’t become a “farmer” in extreme power sports. I just can't make a "lock".

Roman Jabelov Do you have a sports dream?

Certainly! During my time in armwrestling, I beat almost all the leaders... except Brzenk. I prepared very well for Las Vegas, but our next meeting will need to be organized closer to Russia. It's a long flight to the USA. Changing time zones, transferring from plane to plane, spending the night, I don’t understand where, killed me on the spot. I walked around Las Vegas like a zombie. Give me the opportunity to defeat Brzenk, and you will see the real Denis Cyplenkov!
