All objects in Nizhny Novgorod region (Russia). Abandoned villages of the Nizhny Novgorod region: photos, reasons Abandoned villages of the Nizhny Novgorod region near the city of Volodarsk

In the Nizhny Novgorod region there are many places that both attract and frighten with their mystery. Perhaps all this is fiction, but there is some truth in every legend.

Lake Svetloyar

This lake is considered one of the most mystical places in the Nizhny Novgorod region. It is located near the village of Vladimirskoye, Voskresensky district.

Scuba divers, exploring Svetloyar, found many anomalies: underwater descents, in the form of stairs, steep slopes, this suggests that the lake was formed in parts. Wooden objects from the 8th century were found at the bottom; perhaps they remained from an ancient settlement. Strange sounds were also noticed: buzzing, screams, echoes. There is a legend that, before the sun rises and the full moon, righteous people are given the opportunity to see the walls of a snow-white city with golden domes of temples, which is called Kitezh. The path to it is called the Batu Path.

Non-residential village of Bochkari

In the Sokolsky district there is an abandoned village where, as they say, you can meet ghosts. In 2005, there was a fire that destroyed almost the entire population. As you know, an arson was set, as a result of which everything burned out over an area of almost 600 square meters.

Now the village is abandoned, but here’s what’s strange: the few surviving houses remain standing in the middle of the field. Nobody robs them and it feels as if the owners were only out for a couple of hours. Locals say that those who took something from the village later died. Perhaps, in this way, the village “looks after” the remaining houses.

Abandoned house in Dzerzhinsk

Houses No. 4 and 4a on Samokhvalova Street in Dzerzhinsk were built in the late 80s. Whether there are ghosts there or not, no one knows, but there is active debate.

According to legend, there is a cemetery next to these houses, which was closed immediately after the war. Sometimes on the second floor they see the lights on and some screams.

Vilskaya Polyana in the Vyksa region

It is very easy to get to this anomalous clearing; there is even a path passed by cars. Its dimensions are large. Very often they see circles in the sky, UFOs and much more.

In the clearing, the clock and all mechanical and electrical devices stop working. In the 90s, a group of scientists came to explore the clearing and spent a whole night of horrors. Some woke up with burned faces, while others saw white circles in the sky. A few years later, all the scientists died. People who find themselves in this clearing begin to behave inappropriately.

Uncle Lesha's Toy Yard

In the very center of Mexico there is the “Island of Dead Dolls”. There, all the trees are hung with dolls and parts of their bodies. The spectacle is truly gloomy. As it turned out, there is a similar place in Nizhny Novgorod.

There is a house on the edge of the slope near the metro bridge - its entire facade and yard are hung with multi-colored ribbons and old toys, and there is a carpet on the ground. As the owner of the house himself says, he did this for the children, so that they would be interested in playing. If a random passer-by passes by, this place will seem strange and even a little scary to him.

House with icons

In the center of Nizhny Novgorod on Nizhegorodskaya Street there is a house that is all decorated with icons, church lamps and crosses. Walking past such a house in the evening, you can be seriously scared. Carpets hang not inside the house, but outside, a dog barks behind the fence, church paraphernalia - all this takes on a mystical appearance in the moonlight.

Residents of nearby houses have already become accustomed to their neighbors, but it is difficult to say what caused such decoration of the neighboring house.

Village "Bezvodnoe"

The village is located in the Kstovsky district. It is considered one of the most beautiful places in Russia; people come there to simply enjoy nature.

According to legend, strange lights are often observed there. Previously, the area belonged to Boris Godunov, and then to Prince Felix Yusupov, who killed Grigory Rasputin. Rasputin came to the waterless area and inquired about the burial place of nameless victims; this place was notorious among the villagers. After this, strange phenomena began to be noticed.

How many mysteries and secrets are still kept in our area? It is impossible to write about everyone. All this is passed on from mouth to mouth, sometimes in an exaggerated form, but it’s more interesting this way.

YULIA CHUDAKOVA

Time does not stand still - people and customs change, entire villages disappear from maps. The reasons for this devastation may be:

  • changes in natural conditions - loss of water, flooding, landslides (in mountainous areas);
  • military actions - mass murder of people or a demographic crisis (against the background of the fact that men defended their homeland, the mortality rate was several times higher than the birth rate);
  • consolidation of villages in the 60-70s. last century - residents of one settlement were massively resettled to another, and the authorities used the territory of the devastated village for military or agricultural purposes.

Also, abandoned villages of the Nizhny Novgorod region annually replenish their ranks due to the reluctance of young people to live in small settlements. As a result, old people die, their houses become useless to anyone.

Why are people drawn to abandoned places?

Lands that people have abandoned are gradually turning into a favorite place for treasure hunters, adventure lovers and hermits. Some curious seekers spend whole days in archives, search for information on the Internet, and travel to the site of former prosperous villages. There may be several reasons for such fanaticism:

  • adventurism, thirst for adventure;
  • the desire to get rich by selling found seed heirlooms and rare items;
  • nostalgia - people return to the places in which they were born and raised.

The Nizhny Novgorod region is one of the most remarkable corners of the country. To see the picturesque beauty, tourists come to the central corner of Russia from different countries.

Most of all those who like to see something unusual and original are attracted to villages that were abandoned and erased from the maps at different periods of time.

List of villages abandoned and forgotten by people

In the vicinity of the Borsky and Gorodetsky districts, there are several dozen former prosperous villages, of which only ruins and dilapidated buildings remain. In this list you can see the following names:

  • Mavritsy is a missing village in the Semenovsky district, the history of which began in 1902-1907, and after 70 years the population began to decline sharply. The reason was that the collective farm in the village of Mavritsa was not making a profit, people began to move to neighboring villages. In the early 90s of the last century, Mavritsy was excluded from the official register of settlements, and today on the site of the village you can see one dilapidated house;
  • Yamki is an ancient village that was formed in 1690-1697. Before the outbreak of the First World War, the population of the village was just over 200 people, but after the closure of the school in the 60s with the beginning of urbanization (the relocation of rural residents to cities), the population dropped to 7 people (according to the 1979 census). In 1983, Yamki was excluded from the official register of settlements; today, treasure hunters and adventure lovers can see one building in its place;
  • Mallets - the village received its colorful name in honor of the musical instrument that its residents loved to play. The village was founded in 1834 and stood until the mid-twentieth century, until a severe fire occurred in the neighboring village of Grachi. This was the impetus for the devastation of Kolotushki - in 1977, the village disappeared from official maps as an active settlement. Today, the location of the village’s former location can only be found by looking at the lower logs of the log houses that once stood.

The list of areas rich in ghost villages includes Arzamas. The most notable settlements, from which ruins remain, are Fedorovka, Shorino, Ivanovtsy.

A brick, Orthodox church, built in 1864 at the expense of Colonel P. A. Krivtsov in a village separated from the parish of Makaria-Prytyk. A single-domed (probably originally five-domed) four-pillar building in the Russian-Byzantine style, built according to the exemplary design of K. A. Ton. There is no floor in this building, and there are many pigeons flying, sometimes they can even scare you, because the place is too quiet and calm. The church is pretty good...

In the 1930s, a spacious wooden club without any architectural decorations was built to hold meetings and various kinds of celebrations. In 1951-1952 the plant began construction of the Palace of Culture, which, however, dragged on until 1962. The new Palace was opened on April 19, 1962, on the eve of the anniversary of the leader’s birth, so it was named after Lenin. After 53 years, the Palace of Culture is closed due to lack of funding, there is no security,...

The church was built in 1844-1882. It is in poor condition. The only things that survived were the iron window bars and two-meter wooden entrance doors. Inside the main large hall, thanks to the surviving dome, there is no abundant vegetation, which cannot be said about the neighboring room with a completely collapsed roof and trees sprouted from under the floor. The roof of the nearby bell tower also has a small gap. Getting to the top is the same...

An abandoned church in the village of Pilekshevo. Year of construction: 1854. Condition is poor. The refectory completely lacks a roof, but the frescoes on the ceiling of the temple are partially preserved. It will not be possible to climb the bell tower; its wooden structures burned down in the fire. But there is an opportunity to climb onto the roof of the temple; there is a wooden ladder leaning against it (a very precarious look).

The abandoned bell tower of the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in the village of Ichalki. Year of construction: 1904. The church itself was demolished, and in its place a bridge was built across the Piana River. Condition is bad. The internal wooden structures have been partially preserved, but there are no stairs, which will make it very difficult to climb the bell tower.

The church is located in the village of Begovatovo, Arzamas region. Built in 1796-1798, closed and abandoned at the beginning of the 20th century. Style - Baroque. From the outside, the object looks interesting; the cast-iron bars on the windows have been preserved, but almost nothing remains inside. All church utensils were moved to a wooden house, where services are held, so the church is almost never visited. The village in which the temple is located is dying out. Therefore, recovery is most likely...

In the Nizhny Novgorod region in the village of Kovrovo there is a wooden church built in 1785. The church is relatively small, and its condition leaves much to be desired. As of June 2014, the bell tower and the boundary itself were intact; the roof of the refectory had collapsed. You can still see the painting in the main building.

Church of the Nativity of Christ. Year of construction: 1828. Material - brick. There is a cemetery around the church, some of the graves date back to the 19th century. There is a residential building next to the church, the residents keep an eye on it. You can pass unnoticed, but even so, if you talk, they will calmly let you through. There is practically no information about the church, the only thing we managed to learn from local residents is that it was empty about 20 years ago, no one could give the exact figure....

Due to the camp's remoteness from civilization, most of the buildings have been preserved in their original form. The elevated location offers beautiful views of the surrounding nature of the camp. According to some sources, the pioneer camp was sold, all the furniture and equipment were taken away, and they wanted to make a summer hotel. According to others, the camp was simply abandoned and has been in this state since approximately 2009. The area is completely overgrown, part of the dining room has rotted and...

The military unit is in very poor, and in some places in disrepair, condition. In some buildings, the roof is falling in and walls are collapsing. Everything that can be stolen has been stolen. They even took out sand, as evidenced by numerous holes and entire ravines. There are piles of empty military boxes and ordinary household garbage. However, in the midst of all this devastation, street lighting is fully functional and turns on in the evening. Part of the territory is still operational and...

On the outskirts of Arzamas there are old Soviet elevators, built for the needs of the local bakery "Arzamas bread". They were abandoned due to a major fire in 2008. The building became unsuitable for further use for its intended purpose, and the brick buildings adjacent to it were destroyed by fire. Access to two of the five buildings of the complex is possible: the internal staircases and floors have been preserved. Access to others is difficult: in two cases the windows...

There is no point in hiding that abandoned villages and other populated areas are the object of research for many people who are passionate about treasure hunting (and not only). There is a place for those who like attic searching to roam, to “ring through” the basements of abandoned houses, to explore wells, and much more. etc. Of course, the likelihood that your colleagues or local residents have visited this locality before you is very high, but, nevertheless, there are no “knocked out places”.

Reasons that lead to the desertion of villages

Before starting to list the reasons, I would like to dwell on the terminology in more detail. There are two concepts - abandoned settlements and disappeared settlements.

Disappeared settlements are geographical objects that today have completely ceased to exist due to military actions, man-made and natural disasters, and time. In place of such points one can now see a forest, a field, a pond, anything, but not standing abandoned houses. This category of objects is also of interest to treasure hunters, but we are not talking about them now.

Abandoned villages precisely belong to the category of abandoned settlements, i.e. towns, villages, hamlets, etc., abandoned by residents. Unlike the disappeared settlements, the abandoned ones for the most part retain their architectural appearance, buildings and infrastructure, i.e. are in a state close to the time when the settlement was abandoned. So people left, why? A decline in economic activity, which we can see now, as people from villages tend to move to the city; wars; disasters of various types (Chernobyl and its environs); other conditions that make living in a given region inconvenient and unprofitable.

How to find abandoned villages?

Naturally, before heading headlong to the search site, it is necessary to prepare a theoretical basis, in simple words, to calculate these most likely places. A number of specific sources and tools will help us with this.

Today, one of the most accessible and fairly informative sources is Internet:

The second quite popular and accessible source- These are ordinary topographic maps. It would seem, how can they be useful? Yes, very simple. Firstly, both tracts and uninhabited villages are already marked on fairly well-known maps of the Gentstab. It is important to understand one thing here: a tract is not only an abandoned settlement, but simply any part of the area that is different from other areas of the surrounding area. And yet, on the site of the tract there may not be any village for a long time, but that’s okay, walk around with a metal detector among the holes, collect metal garbage, and then you’ll get lucky. Not everything is simple with non-residential villages either. They may not be completely uninhabited, but may be used, say, as summer cottages, or may be occupied illegally. In this case, I don’t see any point in doing anything, no one needs problems with the law, and the local population can be quite aggressive.

If you compare the same map of the General Staff and a more modern atlas, you can notice some differences. For example, there was a village in the forest on the General Staff, a road led to it, and suddenly the road disappeared on a more modern map; most likely, the residents left the village and began to bother with road repairs, etc.

The third source is local newspapers, local people, local museums. Communicate more with the natives, there will always be interesting topics for conversation, and in between, you can ask about the historical past of this region. What can locals tell you about? Yes, a lot of things, the location of the estate, the manor’s pond, where there are abandoned houses or even abandoned villages, etc.

Local media is also a fairly informative source. Moreover, now even the most provincial newspapers are trying to acquire their own website, where they diligently post individual notes or even entire archives. Journalists travel a lot on their business and interview, including old-timers, who like to mention various interesting facts during their stories.

Don’t hesitate to visit provincial local history museums. Not only are their exhibitions often interesting, but a museum employee or guide can also tell you a lot of interesting things.
