Combined progestogen contraceptive

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Pharmacodynamics

Monophasic combined drug that suppresses the secretion of gonadotropic hormones, inhibits the maturation of follicles and suppresses ovulation. The hormonal substances that make up the composition increase the viscosity of the mucus of the vagina and cervical canal and change, which prevents the penetration of spermatozoa into the cervical canal, on the one hand, and reduces the likelihood of egg implantation, on the other. Influence the movement of sperm in the fallopian tubes.

Pharmacokinetics

Gestodene after administration, it is rapidly absorbed and after 1 hour its maximum content is noted. In the blood, it binds to and special globulin (SHPG) by 69%. With daily intake, the content of gestodene in the blood increases by 4 times. During the reception of the second half of the tablets, a state of equilibrium of its level in the blood is noted, the decrease of which occurs in two phases. Gestodene is completely metabolized and excreted in the urine and bile (half-life 24 hours).

Ethinylestradiol also completely absorbed from the intestine. The peak of its content in serum after 1-2 hours. The decrease in the level of a substance in the blood occurs in two phases. Ethinylestradiol in the form of metabolites is excreted in bile and urine. The equilibrium concentration is reached after 5-6 days from the start of the drug.

After discontinuation of the drug, the menstrual cycle is restored. Pregnancy after the abolition of Logest occurs within a year.

Contraceptive pills Logest, instructions for use (Method and dosage)

Tablets are taken orally every day, in the order indicated on the package, preferably at the same time, without interruption for 21 days. This is followed by a break of 7 days, during which bleeding appears, after which they switch to taking new pills.

If the woman has not previously taken hormonal contraceptives

Switching from other combined contraceptives

It is necessary to start taking this contraceptive immediately after taking the active dragee of the previous hormonal contraceptive.

When switching from intrauterine hormonal contraception containing progestogen, intradermal implants and injections,

This drug is taken on any day after the end of the mini-pill. When using injections or implants, the first tablet is taken on the day the intradermal implant is removed or the contraceptive injection ends. However, in all cases, barrier contraception is prescribed for a week.

In case of missing a tablet, there is a separate instruction for the use of Logest.

Overdose

Conditions serious to health or life are not known. When the dose is exceeded - vomiting, nausea, light bleeding from the genital tract .

Hormonal contraceptives are by far the main method of preventing unwanted pregnancies. But the effect of various drugs is significantly different from each other, so many women are interested in how menstruation proceeds with logest.

The drug in question meets the two main requirements of modern gynecology in the field of contraception: to minimize the hormonal load on the woman's body and use selective progestins to achieve the contraceptive effect. These substances correspond to the main hormones produced in the female body in the second phase of the menstrual cycle.

Reasons for using hormonal birth control

The main purpose of this drug is to prevent pregnancy. The contraceptive effect of Logest is due to a pronounced suppression of ovulation in the patient and a change in the physiological properties of loose mucus in the cervical canal.

Sometimes it happens that after logest there are no periods, but this drug has a number of positive qualities. It is recommended for use in the following pathological conditions:

  • The role of this drug in reducing the risk of developing benign and malignant tumors of the female genital area has been clinically proven.
  • Logest is widely used to prevent heavy periods and the possible occurrence of iron deficiency anemia in such patients.
  • If a woman uses drugs with a high content of hormones for contraception, then there is a high probability of her having an ectopic pregnancy or the formation of cystic changes in the ovaries. Logest reduces such risks by 2-3 times.

When Logest is used, a delay in menstruation becomes normal, but when the drug is discontinued, the woman's menstrual cycle is quickly restored.

Rules for taking the drug

Before taking a hormonal contraceptive, a woman should receive appropriate advice from specialists. Like any hormonal drug, Logest changes the hormonal background of the patient, so the independent use of this drug can lead to various health problems for women.

First experience with hormonal contraceptives

Experts recommend the use of Logest in patients who have not previously encountered hormonal pills to prevent pregnancy. The drug is prescribed 1 capsule per day, preferably in the evening 2 to 3 hours before bedtime.

The course of treatment is indicated on the package itself and is 21 days, followed by a week break. Usually during this period, women note the presence of bloody discharge from the vagina, but there are situations when there is no menstruation after the cancellation of logest.

This option is possible, but most often spotting does not stop even after 2 to 3 days of taking the medicine from the next package. For any such dysfunctions, you should contact a specialist to correct the drug intake or cancel it.

Prescribing the drug after removal of the IUD or cessation of the use of other OK

Most experts agree that by interrupting oral hormonal contraception, a woman runs the risk of conceiving a child. This is due to hormonal changes in the female body when using such drugs.

Therefore, Logest is prescribed to such a contingent of patients the very next day after stopping other contraceptives. There are options when, before switching to the drug in question, the doctor recommends that the woman endure a week-long break.

Such recommendations are usually associated with certain menstrual irregularities. If the patient does not take hormonal drugs from conception for some period of time, then it is advisable not to have sexual intercourse or use a condom.

Since menstruation does not always begin on a specific day when taking Logest, it is advised to take special pills immediately after removal of the IUD. To achieve the full contraceptive effect, it is recommended to combine the use of this contraceptive with other methods of contraception for 7-10 days.

The use of hormonal pills from conception after childbirth or miscarriage

The use of a similar method of contraception after childbirth can be started after 3 to 4 weeks. Usually during this period, women avoid sexual intercourse, but the peculiarities and national traditions of some peoples should be taken into account.

For patients who are breastfeeding, the use of hormonal contraceptives is not indicated, since the high level of female sex hormones in the body of a nursing mother is a physiological protective mechanism. With artificial feeding of the baby, logest is prescribed immediately after the woman's menstrual cycle has normalized, and the first menstruation has passed.

If the patient has suffered a miscarriage for a long time, the mechanism for using the drug in question corresponds to the scheme of postpartum protection from pregnancy. Conventional abortion performed before 11 - 12 weeks of pregnancy, allows you to prescribe the drug the next day after the operation to terminate the pregnancy.

A woman should be aware that after an abortion, there are situations when she regularly takes logest, and menstruation does not stop. This option requires a referral to a specialist. Possible failure of menstrual function against the background of the use of the drug after an abortion.

Contraindications and possible side effects

Logest is far from the most harmless drug. The active substances included in its composition can cause quite serious changes in the internal organs of a woman. Experts note the following:

  • The drug has a significant effect on the central nervous system. His reception is often accompanied by headaches, sudden changes in mood. Anxiety, unreasonable fear, sexual dysfunction may occur.
  • Problems of the gastrointestinal tract when using Logest most often manifest themselves with various dyspeptic manifestations. These are nausea, vomiting, spastic pains in the stomach, stool disorders.
  • A fairly common consequence of the use of this contraceptive may be the appearance of various rashes on the body of a woman. Possible severe itching, redness of the mucous membranes and skin.
  • Any hormonal drug affects the normal functioning of the female genital area. This tool is no exception. Often, women note that they take logest, menstruation did not come, the mammary glands increased and became, discharge from the nipples began to bother.

All these side effects from the use of Logest are described in the annotation and should be taken into account by specialists before recommending a similar method of contraception to a young woman.

Among other things, this drug has a large number of different contraindications. These include problems of the blood coagulation system, diseases of the cardiovascular system, various oncological processes in the female genital area.

Logest is 90% absorbed in the intestines and excreted from the body of a woman with toxins, so it is not recommended for use in chronic diseases of the liver and stomach. An absolute contraindication for this method of contraception is acute and chronic pancreatitis, type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, and the patient's individual intolerance to this type of female hormones.

Features of the menstrual cycle when taking the drug

Taking any hormonal drugs to prevent unwanted pregnancy, and especially Logest, causes a fairly strong blow to the hormonal background of a woman. In this case, any fluctuations in the menstrual cycle are possible.

Delay of menstruation

Most often, ladies note when taking this contraceptive. Usually this condition is manifested by bloody discharge from the vagina on the 3rd to 5th day of using the medicine. Normal periods in such a case can begin on the 14th - 16th day of such contraception. The literature describes cases of loss of several cycles at once when taking logest.

It's not worth the risk in this situation. Since the recommendations for using this method of protection consider the delay of menstruation only in 5 - 10% of women, you should immediately seek the advice of a doctor. Although experts suggest that this medicine guarantees protection against pregnancy in 98% of cases, various conflicts are possible. Any tests can give incorrect results, and a woman runs the risk of becoming pregnant.

Absence of menstruation while taking Logest

According to many authors, the use of this method of contraception can cause a complete absence of menstruation in the patient. In most cases, such a violation is just a coincidence, and such a failure of the menstrual cycle is caused by various inflammatory diseases of the female genital area.

Moreover, many women noted that if they took Logest, menstruation began ahead of time. This is due to the presence in the preparation of artificial analogues of female sex hormones - gestodene and ethinyl estradiol. It is these substances that fully correspond in terms of the mechanism of action in the female body to progesterone, which is responsible for the regulation of the menstrual cycle.

Due to this composition, Logest is used to treat various menstrual dysfunctions, although some women find that using this drug, they can regulate the time of the next menstruation. This is a dangerous delusion. Such techniques do exist, but their use is possible only under the supervision of a doctor.

It should be reminded to most of the fair sex that hormonal contraceptives are quite serious drugs. Their impact on the female body can affect the work of most organs and systems of patients. The independent use of these drugs, which help a woman avoid unwanted pregnancy, can cause irreversible disturbances in the hormonal system, lead to severe poisoning and provoke a variety of pathologies. Any experiments with female hormones can permanently deprive a woman of the opportunity to have children.

One of the effective contraceptives of the new generation are the Logest birth control pills. As part of these contraceptives, there is a minimum level of hormones. In addition to protecting against the onset of unwanted pregnancy, this contraceptive has the ability to have a therapeutic and prophylactic effect on the development of female cancers.

Mechanism of action of contraceptive Logest.
The tablets contain gestodene (progestogen) and entinylestradiol, which interfere with the process of maturation of the follicle and prevent ovulation, as a result of which the endometrium is not prepared for implantation of the fetal egg. In addition, the action of the drug is aimed at increasing the viscosity of the cervical secretion, which makes it difficult for spermatozoa to penetrate into the uterus and implant them.

Logest tablets are recommended for women over 35 to prevent pregnancy and restore the menstrual cycle. After using these contraceptives, menstrual bleeding normalizes, becomes less painful and scarce, which reduces the risk of developing iron deficiency anemia. Scientific studies have shown that this contraceptive significantly reduces the risk of endometrial and ovarian cancer, breast disease, inflammatory diseases of the reproductive system and ovarian cysts.

Contraceptive Logest are in the form of tablets, are available in a blister with a calendar scale. Take the pills should be with the onset of the menstrual cycle, on the first day of menstruation. It should be taken daily one tablet (in accordance with the arrows on the blister), it is recommended at the same time, for twenty-one days. After that, a seven-day break is provided (as in other new generation oral contraceptives). Usually during this break, menstrual-like bleeding is observed. At the end of the seven-day break, you should start a new package of the drug according to the same scheme, even if your period has not yet ended.

It should be noted that while taking the contraceptive drug Logest, side effects very rarely occur, mostly if they appear, then at the very beginning of the reception. In the future, all unpleasant manifestations disappear on their own.

Side effects of contraceptive Logest.

  • headache, migraine, abdominal pain, depressed mood;
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, change in body weight;
  • change in vaginal secretion;
  • enlargement and soreness of the mammary glands, the appearance of discharge from the mammary glands, a decrease in libido, various skin reactions against the background of hypersensitivity (allergies, rashes, urticaria, etc.), fluid retention.
If you experience severe headaches of a frequent nature, hearing or vision impairment, signs of thrombophlebitis or thromboembolism, increased blood pressure, hepatitis, itching, severe abdominal pain, as well as an increase in epileptic seizures, you should immediately stop taking it and contact a specialist.

Contraindications.

  • diabetes mellitus with vascular complications;
  • breast or endometrial cancer;
  • hypersensitivity or individual intolerance to the components of the drug;
  • migraine;
  • the risk of developing venous or arterial thrombosis;
  • liver tumors;
  • the presence of blood clots;
  • vaginal bleeding of unclear occurrence;
  • severe liver disease;
  • hormone-dependent oncological diseases of the genital organs or mammary glands;
  • pancreatitis;
  • pregnancy (increases the risk of congenital pathologies), lactation (the components of the drug penetrate into the mother's milk).
It is also worth noting that these contraceptives in the presence of cardiovascular diseases should be taken with caution and only after consulting a doctor. The presence of arterial hypertension, atrial fibrillation, obesity, systemic lupus erythematosus, ulcerative colitis, as well as the presence of surgical pathology (a month before surgery and within two weeks after the drug is contraindicated) makes it impossible to take the drug. In addition, one should be aware of the high risk of developing thromboembolism in the period after childbirth while taking the drug Logest.

Simultaneous reception of these oral contraceptives with rifampicin, ampicillin, griseofulfin, phenylbutazone, phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine significantly reduces the contraceptive effect. Therefore, during this period and within a week after their withdrawal, it is recommended to use additional methods of contraception (within 28 days after the withdrawal of rifampicin).

The use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation.
This drug is strictly contraindicated for use during pregnancy and lactation. If treatment with Logest is necessary during lactation, breastfeeding should be discontinued, since the substances contained in the drug pass into breast milk and enter the child's body.

Method of application and dosage of the contraceptive.
As mentioned earlier, the drug begins to drink on the first day of menstruation. If the reception was started from the second to the fifth day of the cycle, then it is recommended to use additional methods of contraception during the week of taking the drug.

If you decide to switch to taking Logest from another hormonal contraceptive, then it is recommended to do this the next day after taking the last active pill / pill of the previous contraceptive.

The transition to contraceptive Logest with mini-pills can be carried out any day after their cancellation. If injections or implants were used as contraception, then the first Logest tablet should be taken on the day the implant is removed or the injection ends. However, in all cases of transition the first week of taking Logest, it is necessary to use an additional barrier method of contraception.

After artificial termination of pregnancy in the early stages, the drug is taken on the same day, immediately after the operation. Additional means of protection against the onset of unwanted pregnancy are not required.

After childbirth or late abortion, the drug should be started on the 21-28th day of the postpartum period or after the abortion. In the latter case, additional protection is required within a week. Before using the drug, you must make sure that there is no pregnancy.

Missing a drug.
If for some reason you missed taking an oral contraceptive, but the delay was no more than twelve hours, then you should immediately take the pill, and the next dose will also be carried out according to the scheme. In this case, the contraceptive effect of the drug is not reduced, and additional protection is not required. If the drug was delayed for more than twelve hours, then there is a decrease in the contraceptive effect. In this case, there may be a decrease in contraceptive effectiveness. The danger is a break in the intake of seven days or more, since the effect of the drug is based on its continuous intake for at least a week.

Remember, the chance of conception increases with the number of pills missed per cycle, especially closer to the seven-day break. If the dragee was missed in the first week of taking the drug, you must immediately (as soon as you remember) take the pill. If by this time the time for taking the next pill has come, two pills are allowed. Further, the drug should be taken according to the usual scheme.

If the drug was missed in the second week, it should also be taken as soon as possible. If the time has come to take the next dragee, two tablets are allowed. Then the drug should be taken as usual, but additionally use a condom for a week.

If the missed pill occurred in the third week of taking, you should also take the pill as soon as possible, if necessary, allow you to take two pills if it's time to take the next one after the missed pill. Then the drug is taken according to the usual scheme, however, in this case, a seven-day break is not made, you should immediately start taking the pills from the next package. In this case, menstrual bleeding is unlikely, but bleeding may occur while taking the pills from a new package.

Before starting the use of contraceptive Logest, a woman needs to undergo a thorough general medical and gynecological examination, in addition, it is advisable to examine the mammary glands and do a cytological examination of cervical mucus. It is very important to exclude pregnancy and blood clotting disorders.

For family planning, it is very important to choose a convenient and effective way to prevent unwanted pregnancy. The most common are hormonal methods of contraception for women. A properly selected drug will not only prevent pregnancy, but also help to further establish some body functions.

One of the most recent developments in this area is combined oral contraceptives (COCs). Among them is the drug of the 3rd generation Logest. Like other COCs, this tool combines two main components. This is a monophasic drug, that is, all the tablets in it are the same in terms of the ratio of active ingredients in them.

pharmachologic effect

Prevention of pregnancy by taking oral contraceptives is achieved by:

  • suppression of the formation of a mature egg;
  • endometrial changes;
  • decrease in muscle activity of the female reproductive system;
  • increase in the density of mucus secreted by the glands.

The preparation of the female body for pregnancy is controlled by a complex system of interaction between the pituitary gland, hypothalamus and ovaries. Due to its components, Logest birth control pills have a depressing effect on the secretion of gonadotropic hormones by the pituitary gland - follicle-stimulating and luteinizing, blocking the possibility of conception.

The synthetic analogue of the natural hormone, gestodene, which is part of the preparation, has a progestogenic effect on the reproductive system, due to which the state of the body resembles the beginning of a real pregnancy. Although this pregnancy is false, it does not allow true conception to occur. At the same time, Logest makes it possible to postpone menstruation for the period while the COC course is being taken.

Gestodene, like other progestogens, thickens the epithelium of the vagina, makes the cervical mucus very thick, under its influence, contractions of the uterine muscles decrease, the readiness of the mammary glands to produce milk increases, their increase and engorgement is noted, the endometrium is held on the wall of the uterus, the basal temperature rises. A decrease in the concentration of progestogens in the blood causes rejection of the endometrium. This is expressed in the appearance of spotting or sudden bleeding. There are also discharges from the mammary glands. This symptom is very dangerous. Therefore, only a constant, stable high level of gestodene is needed, which provides both a reliable contraceptive effect and a woman's satisfactory well-being.

New generation progestogens, like gestodene, act on several types of receptors. Therefore, KOC Logest has the following activities:

  • very high gestagenic;
  • high antiestrogen;
  • moderate androgenic.

Release form and composition

The effectiveness of progestogens is increased in the presence of estrogens. Therefore, both hormones are connected in Logest. Modern contraceptives are focused on reducing harm to a woman's body, which is achieved by extremely low doses of active ingredients in newly developed drugs. In Logest, the amount of estrogen is minimal, so this COC belongs to low-dose contraceptives. The form of release of this drug are tablets (or dragees). The composition of each Logest tablet includes active synthesized substances:

  • gestodene, 75 mcg;
  • ethinylestradiol, 20 mcg.

One of the problems of oral contraceptives of previous generations was the low bioavailability of the contained hormones, which was compensated by their high doses in the preparation. The newest COCs allow the use of minimal doses without compromising the reliability of contraception, as they are maximally and quickly absorbed in the intestine. It is enough to take 1 tablet per day, strictly after 24 hours, and protection against unwanted pregnancy is guaranteed. Each package of the Logest contraceptive contains 21 or 63 tablets (or dragees). This amount is enough for 1 or 3 courses, respectively.

Each course consists, like the average menstrual cycle, of 28 days. 21 days a contraceptive is taken, 7 days off. Then the situation repeats itself.

Logest tablets are made using:

  • sucrose;
  • corn starch;
  • talc;
  • povidone;
  • magnesium stearate;
  • lactose monohydrate and other binder additives found in most drugs.

Indications for use

In order for Logest tablets to be prescribed by a doctor, confirmation of the need to take this contraceptive is required. The main condition is the preference for oral contraception over other methods.

Before taking Logest, you need to make sure that the hormonal components of the drug can be properly absorbed and involved in the regulation of the reproductive cycle.

If there are no disorders in the absorption of drugs from the intestines, and there are no contraindications, Logest will suit every young, healthy woman as a reliable contraceptive. Some features of this drug may allow you to fix a malfunction in the hormonal and reproductive systems. Logest is prescribed for dysmenorrhea and other menstrual disorders. The drug works especially effectively if necessary to eliminate the profusion and soreness of menstruation.

Its main purpose - to provide contraception - Logest fully justifies. There is no known case among those taking this drug that someone became pregnant during the course of contraception with this COC. In this case, pregnancy after the end of taking Logest can occur quickly enough.

It is very effective to use the mentioned remedy for protection against unwanted pregnancy after childbirth or abortion. The restriction is breastfeeding.

Method of application and dosage

The main guide for taking the contraceptive Logest is the instructions for using this tool. It indicates the exact dosage of the drug and the conditions for their use. The rules to be followed when using Logest, the instruction describes simply and clearly.

Logest should be taken one tablet every day at the same hours. Time delays are fraught with undesirable consequences. Each package containing 21 tablets is drunk for 3 weeks.

Then there are 2 options. The first of them is to take a break in taking the contraceptive indicated by the instruction. According to the second - immediately after the end of the tablets in one package, you need to proceed to the next one. In the second case, there is a delay in bleeding, replacing menstruation. You can delay the onset of false periods for as long as the woman wishes.

The interval between taking hormonal contraceptives, regardless of their specific brand, should not exceed 7 days.

After an abortion, the conditions for using the drug depend on the term of the interrupted pregnancy. With a short period - the beginning of the reception is established immediately after surgery. After childbirth or with a long interrupted pregnancy, a break of about 1 month is necessary between the operation and taking the first pill.

Each new course of taking COCs should begin on the first day of real menstrual flow. In all cases of skipping pills before starting a new course, especially if false or true menstrual bleeding has not occurred, it is necessary to make sure that there is no pregnancy.

If by chance the pill is missed for more than 12 hours, you need to drink a contraceptive at the same minute, according to the instructions. As a rule, the recommendations establish an extraordinary intake of tablets without regard to the fact that during the day their total amount taken will be 2 pieces. The half-life of gestodene is about 10 hours, and the required level is reached only by the 7th day of use. Therefore, in order not to be at risk of becoming pregnant, the concentration of the hormone should be maintained at a high level.

When starting a course of hormonal contraception, the first week of taking the drug requires the use of an additional method of protection - barrier contraception.

COC tablets are washed down with water in a volume of 50 to 150 ml.

Contraindications

Due to the special effect on the body, all hormonal drugs carry the risk of complications in the presence of diseases in a woman. Therefore, before prescribing oral contraceptives, the doctor must conduct a comprehensive and thorough examination of the patient who applied.

  1. Logest is contraindicated in girls who have not started menstruation yet.
  2. The second category of women with contraindications for this COC are those who have experienced menopause. For ladies of this age, Logest is not shown.
  3. Refusal of Logest may follow with diseases both currently present and present in the anamnesis. These include:
  • pathology of the liver and kidneys, since the metabolism and excretion of hormones is carried out through these organs;
  • diabetes;
  • diseases of the cardiovascular system, including ischemia, angina pectoris;
  • migraine;
  • unclear origin of bleeding and suspicion of pregnancy;
  • deep vein thrombosis;
  • the presence of arterial thrombosis and thromboembolism;
  • tumors, malignant formations;
  • neurotic pathologies;
  • previous injuries and surgeries;
  • malabsorption in the intestines, including due to peptic ulcer, colitis, etc.;
  • individual intolerance to the drug.
  1. Logest is not prescribed for smokers and obese people.
  2. If relatives have the diseases listed above, including a history, the appointment of Logest is not indicated.

The compatibility of Logest and alcohol is not mentioned in the annotations. Presumably, small doses of alcohol do not cause incompatibility with Logest.

Logest is not prescribed when using many drugs, such as:

  • Analgin;
  • Rifampicin;
  • drugs of the barbiturate group;
  • Griseofulvin;
  • ampicillins and tetracyclines;
  • carbamazepines;
  • drugs that reduce blood sugar and blood clotting.

Reception of the latter requires adjustment of the dosing of COCs.

Side effects of Logest

For those who have chosen a hormonal method of contraception with Logest, side effects are not new. The specificity of the action of synthetic hormones does not allow avoiding their negative impact. Therefore, before using such special means, it is recommended to undergo a comprehensive health examination. Among the possible diseases that need to be excluded are such as:

  • thrombosis;
  • cardiovascular pathologies;
  • kidney or liver disease;
  • disturbances in the work of the brain;
  • herpes and others.

Hormonal contraception is one of the most reliable methods of contraception and correction of various hormonal disorders in women. The drugs used for this purpose - combined oral contraceptives (COCs) contain synthesized female sex hormones: ethinyl estradiol and various progestins.

General information about the drug Logest

Logest is a microdosed monophasic combined oral contraceptive. It contains gestodene 0.075 mg and ethinylestradiol 0.02 mg. The Pearl Index, when the drug is taken correctly, is less than 1, which means that the drug has a high contraceptive effect, which manifests itself due to:

  • changes in the endometrium that reduce the likelihood of implantation;
  • inhibition of ovulation;
  • increase the viscosity of cervical mucus.

The drug also has medicinal properties, it is used for:

  • recovery;
  • treatment of premenstrual syndrome;
  • reducing the incidence of benign diseases of the mammary glands;
  • prevention of endometriosis and uterine fibroids;
  • prevention of ectopic pregnancy;
  • prevention of oncological diseases of the reproductive system.

When taking Logest, the pain syndrome and the intensity of blood loss decrease in 60-90% of women.

The main pharmacological effect of the drug is to inhibit the synthesis of GnRH by the hypothalamus, as a result of which the secretion of FSH and LH by the pituitary gland is suppressed, and anovulation develops. The concentration of hormones in Logest is much lower than the physiological norms of the same hormones in a woman's body, therefore, in the first (follicular) phase of the menstrual cycle, incomplete proliferation of the functional layer of the endometrium occurs, and in the second phase (luteal) - defective secretory transformation.

Note! The drug is contraindicated for use in the presence of the following pathological conditions:

  • thrombosis and thromboembolism;
  • angina pectoris, transient ischemic attacks;
  • the presence of risk factors for venous or arterial thrombosis;
  • migraine;
  • diabetes mellitus with vascular complications;
  • pancreatitis;
  • liver failure;
  • liver tumors;
  • Malignant neoplasm of the reproductive system and mammary glands;
  • bleeding without a clear cause;
  • lactation;
  • hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug Logest.

Logest: instruction and scheme of reception

Logest is a tablet drug, you can start taking it if the woman did not take any hormonal contraceptives in the previous month. Logest can be taken from the first day of menstruation, that is, from the first day of the menstrual cycle, one tablet per day, preferably at the same time according to the scheme indicated on the package, for 21 days. Then comes a seven-day break, during which there is usually a menstrual-like reaction.

If it is necessary to switch to Logest from another hormonal drug, then Logest should be started the next day after the last tablet is drunk from the old package or on the day the vaginal ring or patch is removed.

Important! If, for some reason, taking Logest did not start immediately, then during the first seven days of taking the drug, additional barrier contraception is needed, since it is in seven days that the regulation of the ovaries by the hypothalamus is suppressed.

If a woman forgot to take a pill, but less than 12 hours have passed since the time the pill was supposed to be taken, then the contraceptive effect is still preserved, you need to take the pill in the near future, and drink the next one at the usual time.

If more than 12 hours have passed, you need to take the same pill as soon as possible, and the next one at the usual time, but barrier contraception is necessary for the next seven days.

How do periods change when taking Logest?

The duration and volume of blood loss while taking Logest should be reduced. Periods on Logest are painless. And also a regular cycle (28 days) should be established. Instead of menstruation, a so-called menstrual-like reaction appears.

Logest and scanty periods

Low doses of the drug do not cause pronounced changes in the functional layer of the endometrium, and it does not increase as much as in the physiological state. With prolonged use of Logest, atrophic changes in the endometrium gradually develop as a result of the action of the progestogen component, this leads to a decrease in the volume of menstrual flow. Menstruation can go on for 2 days, and in some women it may eventually stop altogether.

Logest and brown periods

Brown discharge is a small amount of blood with vaginal secretions. Normally, brown discharge can occur at the end of menstruation, but not more than 1-2 days. The appearance of brown discharge is often observed while taking COCs, in particular Logest, and is associated with a general change in menstrual function.

Periods with clots against the background of Logest

Clots released during menstruation are particles of torn endometrium and accumulated blood. This phenomenon occurs with excessive thickening of the endometrium and a lack of anticoagulant enzymes. In a small amount, they are normal, including against the background of taking Logest, and this is not considered a pathology. However, if the clots are large and have an unpleasant odor, then they can be a symptom of diseases such as polyps and endometrial hyperplasia.

What day do menstruation come after Logest?

Against the background of taking Logest, menstruation begins on the first day of a seven-day break, but if there is a delay in menstruation or menstruation begins earlier, this is not scary. The first three months the body will adapt to new doses of hormones, and then a regular cycle will be established.

Allocations in the middle of the cycle when taking Logest

Intermenstrual bleeding while taking Logest with the correct intake of the drug may appear in 2-3 cycles, and this should not cause concern, in subsequent cycles there will be no discharge in the middle of the cycle. In this case, you should continue taking the drug according to the scheme.

Other causes of spotting in the middle of the cycle:

  • Pregnancy, if there were factors that reduce the contraceptive effect of Logest.
  • Incorrect reception of Logest (missing pills, untimely taking of pills);
  • Vomiting or diarrhea reduces the effect of the drug due to poor absorption.
  • A sharp change in diet (starvation, refusal of meat, alcohol abuse) and rapid weight loss;
  • Taking antiepileptic drugs and barbiturates;
  • Diseases that themselves can debut bleeding in the middle of the cycle: uterine fibroids, endometrial hyperplasia, malignant neoplasms of the cervix and uterus, as well as inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs.

If for three or more cycles menstruation occurs 2 times a month, you need to think about changing the drug.

No menses after Logest: why?

If menstruation did not come after taking Logest, first of all, pregnancy should be excluded using ultrasound and. If pregnancy has not occurred, you can continue taking the drug as usual.

It is possible that there is no menstruation due to prolonged, that is, continuous use of the drug in order to delay the onset of menstruation. If the drug was taken as usual, the absence of menstruation may be due to endometrial atrophy.

If after the abolition of Logest not menstruation in a seven-day break, observation is necessary for three months, and then, if menstruation does not appear, an examination (ultrasound of the pelvic organs, blood test for FSH, LH, TSH, prolactin). Depending on the results of the examination, the treatment is adjusted. For example, amenorrhea may be due to hypothyroidism, and high concentrations of thyroid-stimulating hormone increase prolactin secretion. And hyperprolactinemia suppresses ovulation due to the inhibitory effect on FSH and LH.

In addition, the use of oral contraceptives itself causes hyperprolactinemia. Another reason that after the abolition of Logest there is no menstruation is hypogonadotropic ovarian insufficiency. It also occurs due to a decrease in the concentration of FSH and LH, which cannot affect the ovary and start the production of sex hormones in it: estrogen and progesterone.

Periods on Logest go for a long time, do not stop

Menstruation does not end for a long time while taking Logest, often due to the low dose of the estrogen component in the drug, since it is a microdosed drug (contains 0.02 mg of ethinyl estradiol). The level of estrogen in the woman's blood plasma is higher than in the drug, and the body has not yet had time to get used to the new doses.

If the menstruation acquires the character of heavy bleeding, then it is necessary to stop it. For hormonal hemostasis, monophasic low-dose preparations containing 30 μg of ethinyl estradiol can be used (for example, Regulon) according to the scheme: 4 tablets on the first day, 3 tablets on the second, 2 tablets on the third day of administration, and then one tablet per day in within 21 days.

How to take Logest to delay menstruation?

With the help of hormonal contraceptives, you can regulate the menstrual cycle, including delaying the day of the next menstruation. To do this, you need to start taking a new package of the drug Logest immediately after the previous one has ended without a break for menstruation. When taking tablets from the second package, spotting is possible. You can take the tablets without interruption for as long as you need or until the second pack is over. Then, after a seven-day break, you can start drinking tablets from the third package.
