Dr David Frawley- one of the few Westerners recognized in India as Vedacharya - teacher of Vedic wisdom. His written and oral translations have received wide recognition in both the spiritual and scientific circles of India. In America, he is better known as a teacher, practitioner and author of the first works in the West in the field of Ayurvedic medicine and Vedic astrology (Joytish).

From 1983 to 1986 Dr. Frawley taught regular classes with Dr. Lad as an official employee of his school. Since then, he has remained a guest teacher on the staff of the educational institution. He collaborates with Dr. Deepak Chopra and Dr. David Simon and serves as a faculty member of the Deepak Chopra American Institute of Vedic Sciences of Health and Wellness, which has been headquartered in San Diego since its founding. He also works closely with the California Ayurvedic College, founded by his former student and colleague Dr. Mark Halpern.

It is with a sense of deep responsibility that I write these lines - the preface to the latest edition of Dr. David Frawley's Astrology of the Seers, a long-awaited and extremely insightful work that has expanded the range of Western literature on Jyotish 1. Dr. Frawley is one of those rare scholars who who, being immigrants from the West, were nevertheless able to penetrate the spirit of the East in general and, first of all, the spirit of India. This advantage allowed him to avoid inappropriate flirtation with the spirit of science and present Jyotish as it should be.

Jyotish (Indian astrology), which is the subject of this book, is one of the greatest gifts that India has given to all humanity. But in the West, jyotish remained little known until the 50s of the 20th century, despite the fact that it is at least 7,000 years old and has long been an integral part of Indian culture and life in general.

The English-speaking public first became acquainted with jyotish in the 90s of the 19th century - through the Astrological Magazine, which my great-great-grandfather, Professor Suryanarain Rao, began publishing at that time, as well as thanks to several of his books on this topic. Unfortunately, Astrological Magazine soon ceased publication, and it was not until 1936 that my father, Dr. B.W. Raman, resumed its publication and made it available to readers around the world.

Thanks to Dr. Ramap, Astrological Magazine has become a unique publication of its kind, the most reliable and informative magazine on Jyotish in the world. Remaining its sole and permanent editor for 62 years, Dr. Raman set a record that no editor of Sanskrit has yet managed to break. jyotisha, also jyautisha, is neuter. he successfully linked astrology with a number of other disciplines, demonstrated its relevance to the modern world, and thereby brought jyotish to the attention of the Western public.

Since then, interest in Indian astrology began to develop and move forward by leaps and bounds, thanks to which, in particular, a whole galaxy of highly educated specialists in this field appeared, and Dr. David Frawley is undoubtedly one of the most prominent among them. In India, he is best known as the author of a historical monograph devoted to refuting the Aryan invasion theory put forward by orientalists and historians during the colonial period. But in the Western world, Dr. Frawley is better known as an accomplished master of Jyotish and Ayurveda. He had the opportunity to meet Dr. Raman several times and talk about Indian astrology and culture. He dedicated the new edition of his book to him.

Being an expert in the Rig Veda and Vedic astronomy, Dr. Frawley also thoroughly studied the related science of astrology. Vedic astrology, or jyotish, is not just a self-sufficient discipline: it is an integral part of Indian culture and life in general, penetrating the very foundations of daily human activity - worldly and spiritual, financial, intellectual and family. It affects all components of an individual's life in the society to which he belongs. In this book, Dr. Frawley succeeds in presenting to the readers not only the letter, but also the true spirit of Indian astrology. “The Astrology of the Seers” is, in fact, a journey into the depths of the spirit of astrology, revealing to readers (especially those who were born and raised in traditions that are immensely far from Indian culture and way of thinking) a huge new world, in the picture of which not only the movements of celestial bodies, but also the life experience of a person who is on earth in a state of wakefulness.

Frawley sees astrology as “a way of transforming the entire universe into a symbol, into a special language for the development of the soul.” From this position, he demonstrates with amazing clarity how, through Jyotish, a person can develop an increasingly respectful attitude towards the Self and move step by step towards Self-Realization on the paths of earthly pilgrimage.

What is Indian astrology: the doctrine of cause-and-effect relationships or correlations between man and the planets - or the language of the stars as a kind of sacred scripture that embodies the all-pervading, all-destroying Time: past, present and future? This question will remain unanswered for now and will continue to confuse and puzzle the minds of thinkers. However, there is no doubt that Jyotish does a good job by helping us achieve the four goals of life that the great rishis of India pointed out. These goals are dharma (obligations that bind a person to other people and to society as a whole), artha (earning money), kama (satisfying physical needs in permissible ways) and moksha (liberation). Any human activity is aimed at achieving one or more of these goals; astrology allows us to approach them consciously and systematically.

The greatest loss of modern civilization, where artha and kama are at the forefront at the expense of dharma and moksha, is the loss of peace of mind and humanity. Understanding life helps to restore harmony and awakens in us compassion for our neighbors, teaches us to forgive people for their mistakes and shortcomings. Indeed, from the point of view of Vedic astrology, other people's shortcomings from which we suffer are nothing more than consequences of our own past actions (karma), and therefore, we can only blame ourselves for them. The consciousness of karmic “accountability” can keep us from doing wrong and encourage us to do right. And it will not be difficult for an experienced Vedic astrologer to recognize from the birth chart what exactly this “accountability” consists of.

Drawing on the philosophy that has come down to us through the centuries from the ancient Indian rishis (seers), Frawley consistently sets out the methods of jyotish, moving from the very first steps - the rules for calculating the astrological chart - to the increasingly fascinating details of the interpretation of the various elements of the horoscope:

planets with their properties and characteristics, zodiac signs, nakshatras. houses and yogas (the latter being a unique feature of Indian astrology) - after which he moves on to consider harmonic, dasha and bhukti charts. Then, as befits a specialist in Eastern medicine and, in particular, Ayurveda, Frawley proceeds to medical astrology, discussing temperaments and diseases, the constitution and human psychology.

Astrology is one of Vedanga 2, and therefore it is impossible to comprehend jyotish outside of its spiritual component. And when it comes to considering the spiritual factors of the horoscope, Frawley, being a sadhaka (seeker of spiritual truth) with many years of experience, rises to true heights. In addition, he focuses on healing agents such as gems, colors and mantras, and also indicates ways to soften planetary energies and gain the favor of planetary deities. Finally, he analyzes 18 horoscopes, demonstrating with examples how the basic principles of Vedic astrology work.

The skill and ease with which Dr. David Frawley presents the fundamentals of Jyotish, and his ability to present even dry technical material in a lively manner, enable him to effortlessly take the soul and mind of the Western reader on a journey into the heavenly mysteries of the relationship between man and the surrounding universe. Seer Astrology is not only an excellent introduction to Indian Vedic astrology, but also a wealth of information on the subject.

PREFACE TO THE NEW EDITION

Reworking an old edition is a fruitful endeavor. First of all, you can correct the errors that crept into the previous edition (you sometimes wonder: “Could I really say that?”). Secondly, there is an opportunity to improve the style.

Thirdly - and, perhaps, most importantly - you get a chance to supplement the book with new material, which can be important in a rapidly developing field.

Vedic astrology has come a long way in the ten years since this book was written. At that time, no work on this topic was published in the West, except for one - a single book - “Ancient Indian Astrology for the Modern Western Astrologer” by James Braha, and not much information could be gleaned from astrological computer programs focused on the Vedic system a lot of. Essentially, there was no audience in the West capable of becoming professionally interested in Vedic astrology. I addressed my book to two groups of potential readers: first, those Western astrologers who were ready to show interest in an alternative astrological system, and second, followers of Indian gurus and adherents of their teachings who might be fascinated by the astrological side of this tradition.

The book found its readers among both groups, but perhaps attracted more attention from the second.

Now as then, this book is intended to serve as a general yet comprehensive introduction to the subject of Vedic astrology. It is not only designed to arouse enthusiasm in the reader, but also contains a number of special information.

I hope that by revising and expanding this book for a second edition, I have been able to bring greater clarity to it and cover several new topics. The result is a textbook on Vedic astrology, aimed at a fairly wide range of readers - from beginners to intermediate astrologers - and prepares the interested public for a deeper study of this extensive astrological system.

I began studying Vedic astrology in 1973. A few years earlier, having discovered Sri Aurobindo’s book on the Vedas, I became, so to speak, a “vedic man,” that is, I saw the highest wisdom in the Vedas. I also studied Western astrology, but my focus on Vedic knowledge and my childhood fascination with telescopes forced me to give preference to the zodiac based on the fixed stars and choose the Vedic system as my specialization. I began to put this system into practice from time to time in 1975; I made the transition from Western astrology to Vedic astrology gradually.

In the late 70s and early 80s, I conducted a series of studies on the Vedas, as well as the Upanishads (the spiritual heritage of the Vedic disciplines), the texts of which were published in India with the support of M. P. Pandit, who was then the secretary of the ashram Sri Aurobindo.

In 1984, during the period of joint teaching of Ayurveda with Vasant Lad according to the program he developed, I recruited my first seminar on Vedic astrology - mainly from students who had studied Ayurveda. Although all the students (and perhaps the teacher as well) were then at a rather low level of training, a start had been made. Inspired by this, I decided to compile a series of lectures for correspondence education - and in 1986 I opened correspondence courses. This series of lectures formed the basis of this book, which was first published at the end of 1990 and, in turn, served as an impetus for the addition and more detailed development of the lecture course.

A circle of specialists in the field of Vedic astrology began to emerge in the West only in 1992, which was greatly facilitated by the first symposium on Vedic astrology in the United States, in the preparation of which I participated along with Dennis Harness and Stephen Cuong. This event was honored by Dr. B.V. himself with his presence and blessing. Raman is universally recognized as the greatest Indian astrologer of the 20th century, who, along with his entire family, continued to provide us with reliable and faithful support.

Thanks to this, in 1993, at the second symposium, the opening of ACVA - the American Council on Vedic Astrology, which has now grown into a reputable organization with about four hundred members and covering, perhaps, the majority of American specialists in Vedic astrology, took place. This can be considered a great achievement, considering that representatives of such related fields as, for example, Ayurveda, have not yet created their own organization in the United States.

ASVA maintains close links with ISAN (Indian Council of Astrological Sciences), India's largest organization of Vedic astrologers, headed by Dr. Raman.

In the ten years since this book was first published, I have visited India frequently and interacted with many astrologers there. Vedic astrology not only lives in India to this day, but flourishes and is experiencing a real renaissance. There are many charlatans, but at the same time there are many serious astrologers who publish good books and conduct important research.

Meanwhile, many Vedic astrologers, thanks to the forum held on the initiative of participants in the ACBA symposiums, came from India to the USA and began teaching here. Several Indian experts have written books on Vedic astrology aimed specifically at Western or English-speaking audiences. The list of English-language Indian publications on this topic has been significantly expanded, and the quality of the literature has also increased.

Currently, the community of Vedic astrologers in the West is rapidly expanding. In terms of experience and skill, these specialists are already approaching the Vedic astrologers of India. All these facts indicate that the renaissance of Vedic astrology continues and is gaining worldwide proportions. I am incredibly happy that this is happening today and that this trend will no doubt only gain momentum in the coming years.

I would like to thank Dr. B.V. Ramana and Chakrapani Ullal, who inspired and supported me in my pursuit of astrology. In addition, I would like to express special gratitude to Dennis Harness, through whose efforts ACBA was created and without whom this community of Vedic astrologers in the West may never have existed.

A NEW LOOK AT ASTROLOGY

Astrology is a primordial science, an original system of knowledge created by people at the dawn of time. Astrology formed the basis of the most ancient cosmological teachings, with the help of which our ancestors comprehended the structure and laws of motion of the universe. Astrology was the science of fate, which served to interpret earthly events whose origins were located in heaven. And at the same time, astrology was not only the oldest and most important of the sciences about the external world, but also the most important of the spiritual sciences, addressed to the inner world.

Astrology studies the cosmic origins of forces and influences manifested in all areas of human activity without exception. In this regard, the astrological worldview was ahead of the achievements of all other sciences. By teaching us the language of cosmic energies, astrology helps us understand all areas of life. For example, ancient medical systems - such as Indian Ayurveda or ancient Greek medicine - paid great attention to astrological factors. The basis of yogic practice is the balancing of solar and lunar forces in the human body.

Astrology was the cornerstone of all spiritual cultures of antiquity - Egypt and Babylon, India, China and Mesoamerica. The social structure of these states was based on it, as evidenced, among other things, by the royal dynasties that traced their pedigree to the Sun and the Moon. Astrology has been a primordial physical, psychological and medical discipline. Therefore, based on what astrological system is accepted in a given culture, one can judge the degree of development of this culture and its relations with the outside world.

Without astrology, that is, without an understanding of the role the movement of celestial bodies plays in our lives, holistic, integral knowledge about the world is unthinkable. Without it, we will neither be able to comprehend what unites us with the universe, nor to ward off negative

influence of cosmic forces. nor attract the beneficial energies of the cosmos into your life. Our relationship with the stars is a mirror of our relationship with the cosmos as a whole, and they contain the solution to the secrets of our soul and our inner “I”. Any culture in which astrology has not been developed is deprived of access to higher knowledge and loses contact with the universe.

In this sense, modern culture should certainly be called flawed. Despite the fact that our knowledge in the field of astronomy has far surpassed all previous civilizations, without astrology this knowledge is like a body without a soul. We have reduced the sacred forces of the cosmos to the primitive level of numbers and chemical reactions. This attitude is evidence of a loss of true sensitivity to life. It is akin to attempts to reduce human personality to physical parameters such as height and weight, or to evaluate a great painting by the chemical composition of its paints. This limited form of knowledge will never allow us to understand who we really are and what the universe really is.

We are proud of the achievements of modern science in the field of technology, but this science has not come one step closer to the knowledge of the Divine presence in all things. The people of antiquity, relying on astrology and other similar sciences, were far ahead of us in understanding the soul, and if we want to truly move forward in our development, we will have to go back and adopt their approach. Modern man refuses to even classify astrology as a science - on the grounds that it sees in the objects of study not only form, but also spirit. However, if the universe really has consciousness (and many physicists no longer exclude this possibility), then science must recognize the spiritual side of things. And then astrology should receive its rightful place among the sciences of consciousness - and how can one even talk about science or truth without taking consciousness into account?

In order for the dawn of a new spiritual era to finally rise, it is necessary to return astrology to its rightful place - to the forefront of knowledge. Without establishing contact with the great cosmic essence of humanity, the transition to a higher era is impossible, and the stars serve as intermediaries in such contact. But in order to achieve this goal, astrology must be applied at a much deeper level than that to which its understanding usually reaches. By rejecting astrology, we have made it superficial. It does not receive even a fraction of the attention it deserves, and has almost ceased to serve as a fruitful field of research. An attempt to revive astrology could become one of the most important achievements of our time - if, of course, we have the foresight to undertake it. I sincerely hope that this task will be undertaken by people endowed with equal parts intellect and intuition, for it will require both to complete it.

THE SCIENCE OF TIME (K a l a - V i d i a)

Time is the primordial force that rules the universe. Everything that exists is born in time. The universe itself is time; the creation and destruction of the universe are present in the present at any given moment in time. The laws of time organize everything that exists.

Therefore, awe of time is not a prejudice at all. We all stand frozen in wonder at the miracle of birth, and we all fear death. But both are forms of worship of time. We all appreciate and count the moments of our lives. We all want to live forever. Time is the environment in which we live. The rhythm of time - days and seasons, months and years - is the basis of all our actions.

Time is the great God who rules the cosmos. The Great Time, Mahakala, is the Great God Mahadeva, Shiva as the transcendental Lord of existence. The power of time, Mahakali, is his consort, the Great Goddess Mahashakti, the supreme Power. Time is the Divine breath that creates, sustains and destroys the life and form of the universe. Time is the dance of the great God, filled with the beauty and horror of the Great Goddess.

All gods are, first of all, personifications of time. The main gods of time are the Sun, Moon and planets: they control the movement of time in the solar system. The planets reflect the forces of the cosmic mind, which rules all things through the power of time.

From the point of view of modern science, time is not some empty continuum that serves as an external frame for events. It is a force field that depends on the gravitational force of the objects located in it, the main of which for us, people, is the VEDIC WORLD VIEW. The 21 living on Earth are the Sun and the planets. Planets have powerful magnetic fields. Planets are luminous nodes of a vast energy network, woven from thin lines of force and connecting the entire solar system into a single organism. And despite the fact that the planets seem very far from us, their energy fields reach the Earth and influence the structures of earthly life, including our bodies and souls.

According to the ancient seers, time has its own rhythm and cannot be represented as a homogeneous straight line. Time is the river of life, the flow of which obeys the music of the spheres. It gives rise to a plane of material manifestations, objectified in the form of space. Time generates, supports and destroys all things, which are merely waves in its stream, overwhelming eternity.

Each planet moving in its orbit absorbs and emits energy. Each planet is a transmitter of energy with a certain wavelength necessary to maintain order in the solar system. The radiations of the planets form continuously changing energy structures from which the fabric of life and all creation is woven.

The quality of the various phases into which we enter throughout life depends on the movement of the planets. The movement of the planets supports those forces that rule the game of our earthly existence. The Earth, in its rotation around its axis, creates a day. The Moon, in its orbit around the Earth, forms a month. The Sun, as the center of the orbit in which the Earth moves, creates the year. The revolution of Saturn around the Sun determines a cosmic month lasting thirty years.

Great cycles of time - yugas, each of which covers many millennia - are subject to the laws of planetary conjunctions. They reflect the movement of the Sun relative to other stars or around the center of the Galaxy. Each time cycle is an element of another, larger cycle: the great spiral of creation goes into infinity. And the life of the entire universe is just one day in the life of the Lord of Creation, the One who rests at night on the chest of the Uncreated.

Each moment in time has its own special quality.

This transformation is necessary: ​​without it we will neither be able to comprehend the language of life nor perceive the highest heritage of our ancient spiritual ancestors.

VEDIC SCIENCE

Vedic astrology, like the science of yoga, goes back to the insights of ancient Indian seers - rishis. Rishis - great sages who reached the highest levels of spiritual realization and occult perception - lived in a legendary era of light and truth. The knowledge they acquired was passed on for thousands of years by word of mouth. Much of the Rishi's teaching has been lost with the passage of time, but the core of it has survived to this day. It can also be accessed through the deep layers of consciousness as the forgotten heritage of spiritual humanity. If we can become aware of the presence of the rishis as our spiritual ancestors residing in our inner world, their knowledge will return to us in full.

From the meditations of the rishis, the great system of Vedic science was born - an integral spiritual science covering all spheres of existence. The Rishis discovered the universal science of the creative mind. They expressed it in the language of mantra - accessible to man

a way of reproducing the sound vibrations of the cosmos, relating to the origins of creation.

Mantras are “sound-seeds”. Chief among them is the “syllable seed” Om, which contains the laws and archetypes on which the functioning of the entire universe rests. By applying mantric knowledge at different levels, one can comprehend any area of ​​existence in all its innermost truth. With the help of mantras, the rishis perfectly mastered all branches of knowledge, including yoga, philosophy, astrology, geomancy, medicine, poetry, fine arts and music. Knowledge of mantras is fundamental knowledge, like a musical instrument, revealing more and more new areas of knowledge with the transition from one tonality to another. In the Maitriyani Upanishad (VI.

1) it says:

The "I" manifests itself in two ways - as the life force (prana) and as the Sun. It has two paths - |one] inside and [the other] outside, along which it walks alternately day and night.

The sun is the outer self; the life force is the inner self.

The movement of the outer self is measured by the movement of the inner self.

Ancient seers comprehended the movement of life force in the body, relying on knowledge of the movement of the Sun. Thus the foundation of yogic practice was laid. But at the same time, by meditating on the life force, they were able to comprehend the movement of the Sun in the heavens. Likewise, we will be able to read the secrets of the universe in our own body when our spiritual eye opens.

Since Vedic science is a spiritual science, its focus, in which all Vedic disciplines converge, is the knowledge of the “I”, called atma-vidya in Sanskrit. Vedic science is the science of Self-knowledge. “I” is that one thing through the knowledge of which everything that exists is known. True knowledge is not a collection of facts and information, but something that reveals to us the essence of things. This essence alone frees the mind and fills the heart, bestowing bliss and immortality.

From such intimate Self-Knowledge was born that mantra, that essence of cosmic sound and energy, which embodies the RigVEDIC WORLDVIEW. 39 Veda - the oldest of the Vedas. The Rig Veda is a record of the teachings of the ancient Rishis in their own language. In it they placed the secret key to all knowledge. The set of Vedic mantras is an intuitive symbolic language that contains all the laws of the cosmos. Vedic astrology also originates from the Rig Veda, and the great mantras of the planetary deities used in it are drawn from this original source.

The main meaning of Vedic mantras is spiritual knowledge and practice of yoga. In their additional sense, they are associated with knowledge of the created world. This, in turn, relates primarily to occult knowledge - to the comprehension of the subtle laws that govern everything that happens in the physical universe. The main occult science is astrology. In addition, Vedic mantras open the way to knowledge of the physical body, as in Ayurveda - the system of Vedic medicine. They contain the secret of the entire evolution of humanity and the entire evolution of the cosmos - from the chaos of the Big Bang to the state of absolute perfection that the universe will ultimately achieve.

The greatest of the ancient Vedic seers was, perhaps, Rishi Vasishtha. Vasishtha is the most famous sage of the Rigveda and Vedic literature; it appears in both the Puranas and the tantric tradition. It is to his grandson, Parasara Shakti, who was also a seer and saw some of the more esoteric hymns of the Rig Veda, that the origins of Vedic astrology can be traced. The treatise of his school, the Brihat-Parashara-Horashastra, remains to this day a book of paramount importance for Vedic astrologers, despite numerous later additions and insertions that distort the original text.

Self-knowledge transcends the boundaries of time, space and personality. It is the knowledge of that consciousness that precedes all manifestations and underlies them. And from this it follows that Self-Knowledge cannot be squeezed into the framework of any restrictions and cannot be the exclusive property of any teacher, organization or religion. The central principle of Vedic astrology is the priority of internal knowledge. Vedic astrology does not impose external authorities or beliefs on us, but seeks to give us direct and immediate access to knowledge. The first principle in the practice of Vedic astrology is respect for the true “I” in everything, for that greatest essence that has power even over the planets and for which the entire universe is nothing more than a shadow.

The purpose of Vedic astrology is not to instill in us a sense of dependence on external forces, but to help us use our lives to more fully reveal our inner Self. And to do this, we must first understand ourselves. An astrologer who has not achieved a certain degree of self-knowledge will only impose his personal judgments on his clients - even if he is able to perceive the subtle influences of the planets. He will turn out to be nothing more than another obstacle on the path to revealing the individual soul of the one who turns to him for advice. His astrological practice will be ego-centered and therefore will not bring any real benefit to anyone.

VEDIC ASTROLOGY

Vedic astrology is the traditional astrology of India, dating back to the ancient Vedic culture, to times that are usually (at least for us) considered prehistoric (previously 3 0 0 0 BC). It is based on the Vedas - the oldest sacred scriptures in India and, probably, within the entire Indo-European culture.

Vedic astrology is used by Hindus and Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs. It was used throughout the territory of modern India and in a number of areas now belonging to Iran, Afghanistan and the states of Central Asia; it is still used in Tibet, Sri Lanka and Burma (Myanmar). Together with Hinduism and Buddhism, it penetrated into Indochina and Indonesia. Very early, its influence spread to the lands of China and the Middle East and reached Ancient Babylonia and Egypt. If the astronomical instructions contained in the Vedas are accurate, then it is possible that it was the original form of astrology from which all other astrological systems arose. Apparently, it is by Vedic astrology that one can best judge the astrology of the most ancient spiritual times, those mythical eras of light that, according to legend, preceded all ancient cultures known to us today.

In addition, the Rig Veda mentions the constellations of the lunar zodiac - nakshatras. The Vedic gods have many correspondences in the fields of astronomy and timekeeping. The constellations were named in honor of the gods who commanded them, all of whose names are found already in the most ancient layers of Vedic literature.

The Rig Veda contains mathematical and astrological symbolism, testifying to the deepest cosmological knowledge, which, however, is not expressed explicitly, but in the hidden language of metaphors.

The Vedic culture is based on a complex, carefully worked ritual, set up according to large and small cycles of time, daily, monthly and annual cycles, which are revealed in the movements of the Sun, Moon and planets. People of ancient times looked at the sky as if it were a clock, meditated on various types of celestial influences and sought to comprehend the higher consciousness that rules the heavens.

Vedic astrology is also called Hindu - in honor of the culture and religion that developed hand in hand with it. Representing, like Hinduism, a pluralistic and flexible system, it emphasizes the equivalence of multiple personal paths and appears in one or another guise, like an eternal soul, inhabiting a chain of reincarnations in one body or another. Therefore, it is undoubtedly applicable and useful in the modern Western world along with yoga and meditation systems that have already come to us from India and have benefited many people.

Another name for Vedic astrology is jyotish, which means “science of light.” Jyotish includes astronomy, astrology and meteorology. As a branch of Vedic knowledge emanating from the very center of the Vedas, it is also called “Vedanga Jyotish”. This is precisely its name used in traditional texts.

FOUR LIFE GOALS

Vedic science recognizes four goals in human life:

kama, artha, dharma and moksha.

Whatever we do in life should be a source of joy and should not cause pain to any living being.

Artha generally means “achieving goals,” but in this case the narrower meaning of the word is meant - “acquiring valuable things” or “accumulating property.” Each of us must have enough assets to realize our potential in this life.

Dharma means "principle" or "law". This includes our need for honor or recognition. We can call it a “vocational calling” because this is how our culture interprets this need. Each of us needs to be appreciated for something. whatever he is capable of doing, then he will be able to bring benefit to society without sacrificing his true essence.

Moksha means liberation. Its scope includes our need for spiritual development, including liberation from the three lower-order values ​​just mentioned. Each of us must strive to go beyond our limitations and become

one with all that exists. All four goals are called dharmas, for dharma also means “fundamental principle.” Moksha, liberation, is the highest of dharmas.

Vedic astrology recognizes the value of all four goals in life and strives to help us achieve each one.

However, the first three goals - pleasure, wealth and career - are considered secondary to the fourth - spiritual liberation. Liberation is the main and necessary goal of all people, all living beings. Without it, other goals have no real value. They are useful only as means to achieve moksha and not as an end in themselves. Once we understand this, we will no longer fall into their traps, but will use them as tools for further spiritual growth.

Astrology considers the need for health - freedom from disease - to be a necessary basis for achieving these four life goals. This is the basis of all life goals, for what can we achieve without health? However, it is important not only physical health, but also mental health. Thus, astrology must consider both physical health and mental well-being as a means to achieving all life goals. That is why medical and psychological astrology are perhaps the most important branches of astrological science (not counting, of course, spiritual astrology, which surpasses all other astrological directions).

These four goals form a pyramid, with liberation at the top. Each contributes to the achievement of the others. To live and act normally, we must be happy.

To have leisure and peace of mind, you need money. Recognition from other people is necessary for us so that we can realize our calling. However, most of us get caught up in the networks of lower goals and do not appreciate the higher goal. Moreover, the desire for the highest sometimes turns out to be one of the same lower aspirations, only taking on a noble guise. Hiding behind the name of God, we often still seek only pleasure, power or glory. And astrology often gets caught up in these lower goals.

To restore one's spiritual integrity, astrology must recognize the correct hierarchy of life values.

Astrology has been known throughout the world since time immemorial. In ancient cultures, such as the Egyptian or Babylonian, it occupied a dominant place. Medieval Christian and Muslim cultures also used astrology, borrowing it from older traditions, but here it lost its once dominant role and was often considered heresy. In the religion of the One God there was no place for the powers of many gods, mostly of a planetary nature. Modern culture, with its scientific bias, has completely branded astrological art as something unproven and based on fantastic fabrications.

However, India has preserved its civilization since ancient times. The Indians never ceased to worship the gods, while at the same time seeking the Divine Self, or pure consciousness, transcending even the Creator himself. They maintained freedom in the sphere of spirituality and religion. Indian culture was not constrained by the forces of unconditional monotheism or the authority of an intolerant church. India has preserved an older and more advanced form of astrology than the West. The ritual calendar, based on the stars and the worship of the planets as deities, is used in India to this day - as it was used thousands of years ago in Babylonia and Egypt. Modern Indians still offer prayers to the planets, just as their like-minded people did long ago in ancient Europe and the Middle East.

Over the last century, astrology has enjoyed a revival in the West. A new, modern psychological approach has expanded the horizons of astrology and freed it from the shackles of medieval dogma. Astrology has survived the fierce onslaught of the materialistic era: for the soul its call is so irresistible that the intellect is not able to give up h e t o v. TWO ZODIACS Most of us think that there is only one zodiac - the zodiac of the fixed stars or constellations. We believe that if in the ephemeris - an astrological table indicating the positions of the planets - a planet is in one sign or another (for example, Jupiter is in Sagittarius), then, looking at the sky, we will see this planet among the stars of the corresponding constellation. In reality the situation is different. The zodiac that most modern Western astrologers use, the so-called tropical zodiac, has long ago lost any real connection with the stars.

It does not correspond to the observed positions of the planets. From an astronomical point of view, our astrological “Jupiter in Sagittarius” will most likely be among the stars of the constellation Scorpio.

Over the course of thousands of years, each of the signs of the tropical zodiac has been in spatial correspondence with all the constellations of the zodiac circle. In modern times, the tropical sign of Aries corresponds to the constellation Pisces. It will soon come into alignment with the stars of Aquarius, thereby ushering in the Age of Aquarius. In ten thousand years, Aries of the tropical zodiac will correspond to the fixed stars of Libra, the constellation lying in the zodiac circle opposite the constellation Aries. The tropical zodiac signs are tied to the equinoxes rather than to any specific stars. In particular, the starting point of the tropical zodiac - the first degree of Aries - coincides with the vernal equinox, that is, with the apparent position of the Sun on the first day of astronomical spring. The position of the equinoctial points relative to the stars changes over time due to the precession (conical movement) of the earth's axis with a period of approximately 25,000 years. 5

Another type of zodiac, corresponding to real constellations or fixed stars, is called the sidereal, or sidereal, zodiac. It is used by Vedic astrologers and Western proponents of sidereal astrology, which developed based on the Indian model. About two thousand years ago, when the system of Western astrology was just beginning to take shape, these two zodiacs coincided. But then they diverged due to precession, and over time the magnitude of this divergence slowly increased. The tropical zodiac thus reflects the real astronomical picture two thousand years ago 6.

The tropical zodiac is not based on the stars, but on the position of the Earth relative to the Sun. The Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn correspond to the positions of the Sun at the summer and winter solstices. The starting point of the tropical zodiac is the position of the Sun at the moment of the vernal equinox, taken as the beginning of the sign of Aries. The position of the Sun at the moment of the summer solstice corresponds to the first degree of Cancer, at the moment of the autumn equinox - to the first degree of Libra, and at the moment of the winter solstice - to the first degree of Capricorn. The cardinal points of the tropical zodiac are the initial moments of the four seasons. However, due to precession, the position of the fixed stars corresponding to these initial moments of the seasons gradually changes.

The tropical zodiac maintains a correlation with the initial moments of the seasons and does not take into account precession. The sidereal zodiac, on the contrary, takes precession into account: its signs are tied to the fixed stars.

Vedic astrology, in turn, takes into account the position of the planets relative to the equinoxes and solstices. However, these points are used only to determine the strength and weakness of the planets and are not among the primary factors in interpreting the chart.

So, we see that there are two different ways to determine the boundaries of the zodiac signs. Each of them is based on its own calculation method. Neither one nor the other is either wrong or the only correct one. The reference points and measurement methods in these systems are different, but both systems speak the same language.

When a tropical zodiac says that the Sun is in Aquarius, he does not mean that the Sun is among the fixed stars of the constellation Aquarius. Most likely, he knows that the Sun should most likely be looked for among the stars of Capricorn. But he wants to say that the Sun is in the eleventh of the twelve parts of the zodiac, the starting point of which is the position of the Sun at the moment of the vernal equinox. An adherent of the sidereal system, speaking about the Sun in Capricorn, means precisely the fixed

stars, and not the signs of the tropical zodiac, although, perhaps, he knows that in the tropical system this position of the Sun may correspond to the sign of Aquarius. So, both astrologers use the same terms, but they designate different parts of the sky - in accordance with different methods of dividing the zodiac circle.

Some modern astrologers are trying to strictly associate signs with real stars, abandoning the concept of a sidereal sign as a thirty-degree section of the arc in which these stars fall. They prefer to identify the sign of Aries with only a few stars of this small constellation. However, Vedic astrologers do not agree with this point of view. Vedic astrology considers the twelve-part division of the zodiac as the basis for the harmonious distribution of light emanating from the center of the Galaxy. The key factor here is precisely the harmonious division, and not individual stars falling into one or another region, although the latter also play their own special role.

Disagreements naturally arise between adherents of the two zodiac systems. Many astrologers are confident that one of these zodiacs is supposedly correct, and the other is not. Others believe that both systems are valuable - each in their own way.

There is no end in sight to this debate, and we are likely to hear many more diverse opinions. However, it is becoming increasingly clear that Vedic astrology can be of great benefit, although for this Western astrologers will have to recognize the validity of the sidereal zodiac.

Since calculations in Vedic astrology are based on the sidereal zodiac, the positions of the planets in the signs of the Vedic horoscope are usually different from the positions calculated according to the tropical system. A person whose Sun is in Taurus in his tropical natal chart may find that in the Vedic horoscope his Sun is in the sign of Aries. Such shifts may naturally cause some dissatisfaction, especially among people already accustomed to their horoscope based on the tropical system. The owner of the Sun in Aquarius may not like the fact that in the Vedic system he turned out to be Capricorn. Or vice versa. The sidereal zodiac appears to be more ancient, for it is based on the observed picture of the sky. The tropical zodiac - an abstract zodiac - most likely originated from the sidereal one. The very concept of the zodiac arose long before the vernal equinox coincided with the starting point of Aries.

And it arose on the basis of observations of the stars. When speaking about the sign of Taurus, the ancient Egyptians and Babylonians undoubtedly had to mean the stars of the constellation of the same name. However, in their times, the vernal equinox was in Taurus, not Aries.

It's hard to imagine that in 2000 B.C. ancient astrologers placed the Moon in the tropical sign of Aries, located among the stars of Taurus - and this is exactly what they would have had to do if they had used the tropical zodiac. An abstract symbolic zodiac would make no sense in cultures whose calendar was based on the observed positions of the planets. And if astrology really came from India, then the sidereal zodiac certainly arose before the tropical one, since Indian astrology has always adhered to the sidereal system.

Thus, the advantage of the sidereal zodiac is that it is most likely the original form of the zodiac, both astronomically and historically. And the argument of astronomers, who deny the truth of astrology on the grounds that the zodiac signs no longer correspond to the constellations of the same name, is powerless against sidereal astrology.

He is the central point that determines the meaning of the zodiac signs, which in their totality reflect the twelve-part division of this galactic light within our solar system.

In the projection onto the sidereal zodiac, the center of the Galaxy is at the beginning of Sagittarius. SOLAR ASTROLOGY AND COSMIC ASTROLOGY

These two systems can be combined. They both use the principle of dividing the astrological chart into houses, which is based on the daily rotation of the Earth around its axis. The sidereal zodiac takes into account an even longer cycle - the cycle of precessional revolution of the Solar System. No one is stopping us from taking all three of these factors into account and combining Eastern astrology with Western astrology. However, when it comes to predictions, such an integrated system turns out to be too complex and cumbersome.

On the other hand, these two systems can be considered alternative - just as we recognize a number of alternative systems of medicine. It can be assumed that the existence of differences between tropical and sidereal astrology is useful in its own way and contributes to the wider development of astrological knowledge. Even if these two systems are not combined, individual elements of one of them can serve as a valuable addition to the other.

For example, many Vedic astrologers, especially those living in the West, include Uranus, Neptune and Pluto in their chart interpretation system. And harmonic charts (duads, etc.), which are now gaining popularity among supporters of tropical astrology, are borrowed from the Vedic system.

AYANAMSA

The divergence between the tropical and sidereal zodiacs is designated by the term “ayyanamsha”. In Sanskrit, ayana means "solstice" and amsha means "share, part." Ayanamsha is the arc distance between the actual position of the vernal equinox in the zodiac of the fixed stars and the starting point of the constellation Aries.

Some Western astrologers believe that the vernal equinox has already moved into the constellation Aquarius. In this case, the magnitude of the ayanamsha would be more than thirty degrees. In general, Western astrologers working in the sidereal system take the Ayanamsa value for 1950 to be approximately 24° 02". Most Vedic astrologers give various figures for the same year ranging from 21° 40" to 23° 10".

The last of these values ​​- the so-called ayanamsha Lahiri - is currently accepted by the Indian government as the standard, but has not become generally accepted. Of course, determining the exact location of the vernal equinox point on the celestial sphere today is not particularly difficult.

The problem is different: which point in the Aries constellation should be considered the starting point? According to the Vedas, this point is marked by the star Revati, but the question of which star in modern astronomy Revati corresponds to remains controversial.

Today, the starting point of the Vedic zodiac is most often placed in exact opposition (at an angular distance of 180°) to the star Chitra - this is the Sanskrit name for Spica (alpha Virgo, a star of the first astronomical magnitude). This method is the basis of Lahiri's ayanamsha. Ayanamsha defined in this way is called Chitrapaksha. However, there is no consensus on its location. The fact is that in the past, Vedic astronomy used polar distance 9 to determine the position of stars. If we use the same method, then Chitrapaksha will be 40" less than Lahiri's ayanamsha.

The system of Sri Yukteswar (the guru of Paramahansa Yogananda), explained in his book “The Holy Science” (Sri Yukteswar. Everyone is free to choose the meaning of ayanamsha that suits him best. Most Vedic astrologers prefer Lahiri's ayanamsha, but only a few of them manage to achieve such accuracy in mundane forecasts as B.V. achieved with his ayanamsha. Raman. The BASIC time cycle that governs the life of the human race, the cycle of the universal “change of seasons” is the cycle of precession. This period of about 25,000 years is only one year in the life of mankind. According to some Vedic astrologers, the precession cycle reflects the period of the Sun's revolution around a certain dark star, of which it is a satellite. This means that the Sun is a double star, but its companion is not an ordinary star, but a degenerate dark dwarf star that does not have its own luminosity. Some modern astronomers are already inclined towards this hypothesis, since it allows us to explain the observed disturbances in the movement of Neptune and Pluto, indicating the gravitational influence of a certain celestial body within the Solar system beyond the orbit of Pluto.

We receive light not only from our Sun, but also from the galactic Sun - the center of the Galaxy. However, the bulk of the radiation coming to us from the galactic Sun lies outside the frequencies of the visible spectrum. Some astronomers suggest that there is a quasar-like light source at the core of our Galaxy, the radiation of which is mainly absorbed by dust or gas nebulae in the region of the galactic center. According to Vedic astrology, the light of this galactic center has a special and very important influence on the Earth.

It nourishes and supports reason in people - not intelligence in the materialistic sense of the word, but true reason, that is, the ability to perceive the divine spirit in all things and act in accordance with the Divine Will.

When a dark companion star comes between the Sun and the galactic center, the access of cosmic light to the Solar System is reduced. During such a period, the “dark” era of materialism begins on Earth. At the opposite point of the solar orbit, the light of the galactic Sun pours on us unhindered, and then the “golden age” begins on Earth - the era of spirituality. Modern astronomy estimates that the Sun completes its orbit around its hypothetical companion in approximately 25,900 years. The exact duration of the precession cycle is unknown, but the general patterns of its influence are clear to astrologers.

Ancient astrologers recognized four legendary eras in the life of mankind: the Golden, Silver, Bronze and Iron Ages. We encounter this idea not only in Indian, but also in ancient Greek tradition, although the latter does not indicate the duration of these eras. In Sanskrit, the world eras - yugas - bore the following names: Satya (literally - “truth”, also called the fourth era), Treta (third), Dvapara (second) and Kali (first). According to Manu, these yugas last for 4000, 3000, 2000 and 1000 years respectively; in addition, each yuga is preceded by a transition period lasting Vj0 of a given epoch and the same period follows at its end.

Thus, the duration of Satya Yuga is a total of 4800 years, Treta Yuga is 3 6 0 0 years, Dvapara Yuga is 2400 years and Kali Yuga is 1200 years. Taken together, all four eras span a period of 12,000 years. The two cycles of four epochs make up approximately a 24,000-year precessional cycle.

Each precession cycle is divided into two halves: the ascending one, during which the Sun moves towards the point in its orbit closest to the galactic center, and the descending one, during which the Sun moves towards the point furthest from the center of the Galaxy. During the ascending half of the cycle we move from Kali Yuga through Dvapara and Treta to the SaVEDIC WORLD VIEW.

In the descending half of the cycle, the light of true reason on Earth decreases by a quarter with each change of eras. At the highest point of the cycle - Satya Yuga - it shines in full force, 100%, and at the lowest point - Kali Yuga - only 25%. In Dvapara Yuga it shines by 5 0%, and in Treta Yuga by 7 5%. The symbol of this process is the bull of dharma, which loses one leg with the beginning of each subsequent yuga in a descending cycle.

According to a number of Vedic astrologers, the Sun was at the most distant point in its orbit from the galactic center around 500 AD. It was then that the point of the vernal equinox was in the first degree of Aries. For the Earth, this was the darkest time of the precessional “year” - and then the light began to gradually increase. Thus, if many Western astrologers believe that we have already entered the Age of Aquarius, Vedic astrologers tend to push the beginning of this era into the future by about 500 years. And yet, some of them, based on a different system of calculations, agree that in the 20th century the world era has already changed.

This is the New Age, the dawn of a New Era, the advent of which is evidenced by enormous achievements in science and technology. Contrary to the popular belief until now, we no longer live in the dark Kali Yuga. However, Satya Yuga is still very, very far away. Dvapara Yuga is still at an early stage, and it will probably be fully formed only in a few centuries - perhaps this will happen exactly when the vernal equinox actually enters the constellation Aquarius. Until then, we will continue to face the difficulties of the transition period - wars, pollution, famine and, possibly, natural disasters. This system is approximate and, perhaps, needs to be improved, but its general structure clearly demonstrates to us the patterns of movement of human history.

GREAT CYCLE OF WORLD AGES

The more traditional view of Hindu astrology is that humanity is now in the Kali Yuga, a "dark" age, or Iron Age, lasting 432,000 years. Its beginning dates back to approximately 3102 BC. It should be noted, however, that this opinion is nothing more than a speculative hypothesis of medieval astrologers. There are several significant objections to it - not to mention the fact that it is obscenely pessimistic! It looks dubious even from the perspective of historical texts of the Vedic period. Ancient texts mention many kings and sages not only of the previous Dvapara Yuga, but also of Treta and Satya Yuga. If we accepted such a colossal length of world eras, then the VEDIC WORLDVIEW. 63 one would have to assume that all these people lived hundreds of thousands, or even millions of years ago!

For example, the life of Rama (one of the avatars of Vishnu) dates back to the end of the Treta Yuga, the Silver Age. In the Puranic lists of kings, he is separated from Krishna (the next earthly incarnation of Vishnu) by about thirty-five generations. But if the 4 3 2 000 year Kali Yuga actually began around 3 1 0 0 BC, then Rama would have to have lived at least 8 6 8 000 years earlier than that date to reach Treta -south of such a grandiose cycle. And if we accept the precessional model of yuga duration, which Sri Yukteswar advocates, then it turns out that Rama would have only had to be born shortly before 3100 BC - and this is a much more plausible date.

However, this problem is more complicated than it seems at first glance, because short cycles are made up of longer ones, and so on ad infinitum. In addition to the 25,000-year cycle of precession, there must be other, longer cycles, hundreds of thousands and millions of years, just as our life consists of daily cycles nested in monthly cycles, which, in turn, add up to annual cycles.

And within this longer cycle, we may indeed be in Kali Yuga, which may well be 432,000 years in length (though I cannot speak with certainty about its duration or when it began). But within the framework of this Kali Yuga of the great cycle, we are still in the Bronze Age of the small cycle, in the small Dvapara Yuga lasting approximately 2 4 0 0 years.

It may seem to us that humanity is still in the darkness of Kali Yuga for the reason that, as the Vedas testify, even in the Satya and Treta yugas the vast majority of people were on the materialistic or animal plane of existence, caring for the main way, about achieving everyday goals related to family, property and personal happiness. Apparently, only a small cultural elite - the highest, most developed layer of humanity - could fully taste the benefits of the eras of light. The situation is similar today, when most people live on the same emotional level as always, and only a few actually understand the secrets of science and technology, although everyone uses them. However, in reality, the beginning of the Kali Yuga of the great cycle may not date back to 3 1 0 2 BC. We do not have enough information to say with certainty exactly when it began and what part of it we have already lived through.

The confusion between the lesser and greater cycles has given rise to a number of errors in the occult version of human history. This confusion was embodied especially clearly in the teaching of H.P. Blavatsky and her followers: they relied on those Indian texts where a longer cycle was mentioned, and the precession cycle was not recognized at all. Therefore, Blavatsky greatly exaggerated the duration of ancient eras and attributed the past races of mankind to too distant times. On the other hand, modern historians, impervious to spiritual knowledge, greatly underestimate the existence of ancient cultures. In fact, it appears that ancient civilizations such as India's arose within the current cycle at least ten thousand years ago. And the current cycle was preceded by earlier cycles of history, going back tens of thousands of years.

It is difficult for any civilization to admit that in the cycle of world eras there was a culture that surpassed it in development. Our historical chronicles reach only the cultures of the Dvapara Yuga, which began around 3 1 0 0 BC, such as the ancient Egyptian and Sumerian. These cultures are typical of the period as a whole. But there were also earlier cultures of Treta Yuga and Satya Yuga.

We cannot detect them because we do not comprehend the very level at which they were located. They were highly spiritual, but not technologically advanced. We know nothing at all about the cultures of the previous cycle of world eras that existed before 12,000 BC. The flood that ended the Ice Age completely destroyed their traces.

It is impossible to even guess how many civilizations similar to ours have managed to appear and disappear over the past tens of thousands of years. And there is no end in sight to these cycles in the future. According to some estimates, the average soul takes about a million years of evolution to complete its incarnation in human bodies. From this point of view, the human race is still quite young, even if its age is estimated at several hundred thousand years.

VEDIC WORLDVIEW

Technological civilization - especially in such a crude form as the modern one, which pollutes the natural environment - is only a rare and brief phase in the cycle of change of human cultures.

It cannot last longer than one or two centuries, otherwise the entire planet will perish. And if such phases had already occurred in previous cycles of human development, they probably ended quickly, after which the nature that suffered from them was restored (which is why we cannot find any traces of these civilizations). To ensure that the life of modern humanity is not interrupted prematurely, we must develop more environmentally friendly types of technology that are close to nature - for example, use solar energy.

Most cultures in all eras have been religious and spiritual in nature rather than materialistic.

A religious bias distinguished all the cultures of antiquity and the Middle Ages known to us, and most countries of the East are still oriented toward religion to this day. Technology, especially in its aggressive form, which undermines the ecological balance, is uncharacteristic of human culture. This is only a temporary deviation from true human culture - the culture of the spirit.

Each precession cycle is another era in human history. The modern era began with the end of the Ice Age, more than ten thousand years ago. Its first eras - Satya Yuga and Treta Yuga - are reflected in the hymns of the Rig Veda, the oldest scripture of India. Traces of the teaching that existed in those days are easily found in the myths of all the peoples of the world and in the astral cults of antiquity. What archaeologists believe to be the beginning of agriculture and civilization was in fact simply a change of cultures accompanied by many geological and climatic changes.

The Vedas and other ancient texts indicate that the geography and climate of our planet periodically undergo major changes. Indeed, just ten thousand years ago, the area of ​​Chicago, for example, was covered with thick permafrost - like most of the northern hemisphere of the Earth. With the change of world eras, humanity experiences cataclysms, earthquakes and floods. Such catastrophic transitions are mentioned in the Bible, Vedas and other scriptures. In any era of the world, it is not easy for people to know and appreciate bygone cultures. Humanity of our world era originated in the Himalayas at the end of the Ice Age. The humanity of the previous era were the Atlanteans. The existence of past world eras is recognized only by adherents of occultism, and even among them there is no agreement on this issue. UP AND DOWN CYCLES

The two halves of the precessional cycle are fundamentally different from each other in terms of the prevailing mentality and worldview on Earth. In the descending half of the cycle, spiritual energy decreases and goes to the detriment of the point of fullness, and in the ascending half, on the contrary, it gains strength and moves towards fullness from the point of greatest damage.

It is difficult for the cultures of the ascending half of the cycle to understand the cultures of the descending half. Top-down cultures, characteristic especially of Eastern countries, are traditional, conservative and authoritarian. They are trying to preserve the light of truth that shone upon them in the ancient era of light. Most ancient cultures belonged to this type.

Modern America is a less developed type of rising culture, for its age is estimated at only a few hundred years. At its core, it is a culture of the ascending Bronze Age, Dwapara Yuga, and to some extent it strives for light and truth, but these aspirations are superficial and outward-looking.

It is not surprising that descending, traditional cultures find it difficult to find a common language with ascending ones, which is what we see in the modern world. Descending cultures are born on the basis of a higher spiritual truth, but over time this truth freezes within the framework of traditions and stereotypes and people cease to understand it (for example, the Indian caste system). Rising cultures are more open and creative, free-thinking and an exploratory spirit, but in their searches they often proceed from arbitrary premises that have nothing to do with the truth. They are immature, materialistic and focused only on direct sensory perception.

Our task is to constructively combine these two cultural trends. The free-thinking and humanitarian values ​​of the ascending mind must be balanced by the humility and spirituality of the descending mind. As we move forward, we must look back from time to time and strive for such integration.

This is one of the most important and complex problems of our time, and its solution will require extraordinary efforts. The differences we feel so acutely between East and West, spiritual and material, ancient and modern are evidence of how urgent this problem is.

On the other hand, all these cycles are the background against which the evolutionary ascent of humanity, the spiral of spiritual development, unfolds. At times retreating back, humanity always rises up and takes another step forward in this ascent. And although we are inferior to ancient cultures in the level of spirituality, we can surpass them in material and intellectual terms, which will allow us to eventually return to the lost heights of the spirit. Ultimately, humanity will sooner or later reach a point at which all external influences will be overcome and the Golden Age will reign forever: we will return to our inner Self, which is beyond all limitations of time. No one can predict when this great transition will take place. It is possible at any moment; however, until now it has rarely been achieved even by individuals. Most people cannot be expected to reach this stage soon enough. Some of us are able to recognize the as yet untapped potential of the modern age. There are fewer who are able to see the possibilities of other world eras, more spiritually developed. Even rarer are people who are able to realize that our true home is eternity; but even a single soul of this level becomes the spiritual light of humanity and shakes the foundations of ignorance that rules us.

HARMONIZATION WITH THE GALACTIC CENTER
