Wormwood - medicinal properties and contraindications. Application for treatment


Wormwood is a perennial plant reaching a height of two meters with a very specific strong odor and a very bitter taste. The stem of this herb is very branched, the leaves are pinnately dissected, dark green above and light below.

Due to its medicinal properties, wormwood has been widely used for the treatment of diseases both in traditional medicine and in the official one. It is not difficult to find it - it is a weed that grows almost everywhere: along rivers, roads and fields, in uncultivated areas, in gardens and orchards. For most animals, wormwood is poisonous, so they avoid eating it.

For medicinal purposes, wormwood is harvested during and after flowering, plucked inflorescences and leaves, and then dried in the shade. Store in paper bags or cotton bags.

Useful properties of wormwood

During flowering, the maximum concentration of all useful substances accumulates in the aerial part of the wormwood.

  1. Bitter glycosides. It is from them that the plant gets its bitter taste. These bitterness destroy most, chlamydia, trichomonas, improve the functioning of our digestive organs, and have a pronounced choleretic effect.
  2. Flavonoids. There are quite a few of them in the grass, but the main one is artemisetin, which is considered a natural antibiotic. It destroys Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli, inhibits the growth of bacteria, disinfects, relieves inflammation. On the basis of its medicinal properties in modern pharmacology, drugs are created to combat oncology.
  3. organic acids. Regulate the work of the nervous system, acidity in the stomach, improve some brain functions, remove toxins from the body.
  4. Essential oils. After distillation of wormwood, the output is more than 10 types of useful essential oils, which are used both for treatment and in the cosmetic and alcohol industries. For example, thujone essential oil is added to an alcoholic drink to make absinthe. Some oils are used to excite the nervous system and have a cardiac stimulating effect.
  5. Resins and tannins. With indigestion, they have an astringent effect, stop bleeding and heal wounds, fight infections that have entered the body
  6. vitamins A, B and C.
  7. trace elements. Wormwood contains calcium, magnesium, selenium, zinc, bromine and other beneficial minerals.

Application of essential oil

Wormwood essential oil is a useful product that is obtained by evaporating the above-ground part of the plant. It is used to relieve swelling, as an antiseptic and expectorant. The oil is of particular benefit in the treatment of diseases of the upper respiratory tract, depression, insomnia, to relieve physical and nervous tension.

• For the treatment of articular diseases, I use wormwood oil as a base in a mixture with other means for rubbing into sore spots or apply an oil compress.

• For depression, headaches or migraines, the oil is rubbed into the forehead, temples or back of the head. Due to its healing properties, wormwood oil has a calming effect. To enhance the effect, mix in equal parts with peppermint essential oil.

Alcohol tincture

To prepare the tincture, dry wormwood grass is taken and poured with alcohol diluted to 70 degrees. The proportions of the ingredients are as follows: 1 part herb to 4 parts alcohol. The mixture should be infused for 2 weeks in a dark place. Take 1 teaspoon before meals.

Wormwood tea

Brew one teaspoon of herbs with a glass of boiling water, leave for 5-7 minutes. They drink to normalize metabolism, the organs of the gastrointestinal tract, dividing into 2 doses in the morning and evening.

Recipes for the use of wormwood

  • Cold treatment

At the first symptoms of a cold, dilute 1 tablespoon of alcoholic tincture of wormwood in a small amount of cool water and drink up to 3 times a day. To increase immunity and the body's resistance to viral infections, wormwood tea is drunk throughout the day.

  • Prescription for the treatment of rheumatism and gout

Pour 1 kg of wormwood with 10 liters of water and boil for 15 minutes. Pour this decoction into a bath of warm water and put the patient there. Bath time 20 minutes.

  • Application for insomnia

Pour a glass of boiling water for 1 s. l. herbs, boil for 5-7 minutes, strain. Soak a towel in the resulting broth, wring it out a little and tie your head with it for the night.

  • How to stop diarrhea

1 s. l. wormwood pour 500 ml of boiling water, let it brew for 10 minutes. Pour off 200 g and drink hot, drink the rest in half an hour. The effect will not keep you waiting.

  • Pain in the stomach

1 tsp chopped herbs, pour 250 ml of boiling water, leave for 15 minutes, strain. This infusion should be drunk one and a half hours before meals, a third of a glass.

  • Recipe for epilepsy and hysteria

Grind the roots of wormwood into a powder and mix half a teaspoon of this powder in a glass of cold boiled water and drink this solution throughout the day, several sips at a time.

  • For and pain relief

In 100 ml of vegetable oil stir 2 s. l. chopped dried wormwood, put on a slow fire, and, stirring constantly, bring to a boil. Remove from heat, let the oil cool. Apply as a compress to places of pain and cramps in a warm form. Keep refrigerated.

  • From varicose veins

With varicose veins, a handful of herbs are mixed with yogurt, applied to problem veins, wrapped in polyethylene, and kept for half an hour.

  • Herpes treatment ()

When a cold appears on the lips, they drink wormwood tea, the recipe of which was described above, 1 dessert spoon before each meal for half an hour.

  • Toothache

A handful of fresh wormwood pour 500 ml of boiling water, let it brew and, after cooling, rinse the aching tooth with this infusion.

• For the destruction of helminths should prepare a very concentrated infusion: a glass of boiling water 1 s. l. dry wormwood. Insist in a thermos for 2 hours. After straining, drink 1 s. l. in 30 min. before meals without drinking anything or 2-3 tablespoons, stirring in milk.

• From roundworms and pinworms: a handful of onion peel and 1 s. l. Pour wormwood with a liter of water and sweat in a water bath for 15 - 20 minutes. After cooling, strain and use as an enema solution.

Application for the digestive system

• To increase the acidity of gastric juice and eliminate problems with digestion, brew half a liter of boiling water for 2 seconds. l. bitter wormwood, sweat in a water bath for 15 minutes, cool, strain. Take 1-2 s. l. 3 times a day before meals.

• For the treatment of gastritis with low acidity: pour 1 teaspoon of grass into 500 ml of boiling water, leave for 20-30 minutes, strain. Drink half an hour before meals 3 times a day.

Contraindications

In addition to all the useful and medicinal properties of wormwood, there are a number of contraindications for taking it, because it is not in vain that animals do not eat it.

It is not used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, erosive gastritis and stomach ulcers, anemia, kidney and liver diseases, diabetes mellitus, thyrotoxicosis, cholelithiasis.

To avoid an allergic reaction from its use, first swallow a few seeds of the plant and observe the reaction of your body.

In order not to cause any harm to your body, you should not treat with wormwood for more than a month in a row - you need to take a break of at least 2 weeks.
