Mechanism of action of the drug

Koldakt is a combination drug that is most often used in the form of extended-release capsules ( long-term) actions. These capsules contain three main active ingredients - paracetamol, pheniramine maleate and phenylephrine hydrochloride.

Paracetamol is an analgesic ( painkiller) is a non-narcotic drug that has a central effect. It has an antipyretic, analgesic effect for sore throat, headache, joint and muscle pain, and reduces high body temperature. The mechanism of action of this substance is associated with the suppression of prostaglandin synthesis, mainly in the center of thermoregulation, which is located in the hypothalamus. One of the functions of prostaglandins is to participate in the development of inflammation. Paracetamol provides pain relief by increasing the pain threshold. It also plays an important role in reducing body temperature due to its effect on the hypothalamic thermoregulation center. Paracetamol has virtually no anti-inflammatory effect. It also does not cause irritation to the mucous membrane of the stomach and intestines and does not affect water-salt metabolism.

Chlorphenamine has an antiallergic effect. This substance suppresses brain receptors that are responsible for the development of an allergic reaction. When using this substance, itching of the eyes, nose, swelling and hyperemia is eliminated ( congestion of blood vessels with blood) mucous membranes of the nasal cavity, nasopharynx and paranasal sinuses, and exudative manifestations are reduced ( discharge from small blood vessels due to inflammation).

Phenylephrine hydrochloride is an adrenergic agonist and vasoconstrictor. Mainly, this substance has a stimulating effect on alpha-adrenergic receptors. Stimulation of these receptors, which are located on the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, leads to their narrowing, a decrease in the volume of incoming blood and a decrease in the volume of the mucosa itself. Thus, vasoconstriction leads to a reduction in the flow of fluid into the nose, throat and sinus lining. Phenylephrine, mainly due to vasoconstriction, reduces nasal congestion and facilitates nasal breathing.

Ambroxol hydrochloride ( bromhexine derivative), which is part of Coldact syrup, reduces the viscosity of sputum, facilitates the release of bronchial secretions and stimulates local immunity.

Guaifenesin is a mucolytic agent that stimulates the secretory cells of the bronchial mucosa. This substance reduces the viscosity and increases the volume of sputum, promotes its discharge and the transition of unproductive ( dry) cough into productive ( ) cough.

Analogues of the drug

Koldakt is an imported drug intended to treat colds. It successfully combines several active substances that reduce the symptoms of ARVI and influenza. The most common and convenient form of Coldact release is long-acting capsules. If this drug is not available in pharmacies in Russian cities, the pharmacist may instead offer another drug that has a similar effect.

Analogs of Coldact Flu Plus in capsules are the following drugs:

  • adjicold;
  • Theraflu extratab;
  • flu;
  • combiflu;
  • maxigrip;
  • antiflu and others.
The listed drugs have a similar composition, but differ in the dosage of active ingredients. Also, all these drugs are available in various forms ( tablets, powder).

Also, for colds, for the fastest possible cure, it is recommended to use lozenges. These tablets have analgesic, softening and antibacterial effects.

If necessary, Coldact Lorpils can be replaced by:

  • ajisept;
  • rinzoy lorcept;
  • astrasept;
  • gorpilsom;
  • strepsils and others.

Which is better – coldakt or rinza?

Rinza is also a multicomponent drug, with a composition similar to Coldact. Along with paracetamol, chlorphenamine and phenylephrine, Rinza also contains caffeine. Caffeine has a stimulating effect on the central nervous system, which leads to a decrease in the patient's drowsiness and fatigue, as well as an increase in mental and physical performance. Rinza and Coldact have antipyretic, analgesic, decongestant, antitussive, and antiallergic effects. Both drugs can be effective in treatment. In any case, before using any of these drugs, you should consult a specialist.

Which is better – Coldact or antiviral drugs ( rimantadine, ingavirin)?

Antiviral drugs are drugs that have an inhibitory effect on various stages of virus reproduction in the human body. Creating these tools is one of the most difficult tasks. Remantadine and ingavirin, for example, have anti-influenza activity.

Remantadine has antiviral activity and inhibits the penetration of the virus into cells. This drug is used to prevent and treat influenza. Undesirable side effects when treated with this drug are insomnia, difficulty concentrating, nervousness, and others. Remantadine is also teratogenic ( disruption of embryonic development under the influence of various factors) and embryotoxic ( negative impact in the first three weeks after fertilization) action.

Ingavirin is a drug that has antiviral and anti-inflammatory activity. This drug helps reduce the duration of the disease and reduce the risk of complications. The drug does not have embryotoxic and teratogenic effects, as well as mutagenic ( change in the hereditary properties of an organism, manifested in offspring), immunotoxic and carcinogenic effects.

Thus, Coldact is not an antiviral drug; it does not have activity against the influenza virus in the human body. It is a drug that alleviates the symptoms of the disease and the course of the disease.

Indications for the use of coldact drugs

These drugs provide a reduction in several manifestations of colds at once. The effect of various forms of coldact release can be both general and local.

Coldact is used for the very first symptoms of ARVI and influenza, namely, elevated body temperature, headache, aches, chills, muscle and joint pain, itchy nose, nasal congestion, runny nose and other manifestations.

Does Coldact help with cough?

Coughing is a protective reaction of the body, the purpose of which is to clear the airways of substances that have entered from the outside or as a result of illness. The cough reflex occurs in response to irritation of the respiratory tract with the participation of the cough center, which is located in the medulla oblongata. There are unproductive ( dry) cough and productive ( accompanied by sputum production) cough. Cough occurs due to inflammation of the respiratory tract and lungs, allergic reactions and other conditions. Antitussive therapy is necessary for non-productive cough, as well as for thick sputum, debilitating cough and other types of cough.

Coldact broncho is a combination drug that contains the substances guaifenesin and ambroxol. These drugs reduce the viscosity of bronchial secretions and facilitate expectoration. They are used in the complex treatment of respiratory tract diseases and bronchial obstruction syndrome ( obstruction).

This drug is used for the symptomatic treatment of colds and flu, accompanied by a cough with difficult-to-discharge viscous sputum.

If after 5 days of taking the drug the cough persists or fever, headache, sore throat and other symptoms are noted along with the cough, you should consult your doctor.

Is it possible to take Coldact if there is no fever?

Adults are recommended to take antipyretic drugs at a temperature of 38.5 degrees or higher, and children - at a temperature of 38 degrees or more. In the drug Koldakt, paracetamol has an antipyretic effect. Also, this substance in different doses also has analgesic properties. If there is severe pain, this drug can be used even in the absence of fever ( for example, at a temperature of 37.5 degrees).

This drug alleviates the symptoms of an acute respiratory viral infection or influenza, and does not treat the disease itself. It is important to follow the instructions and adhere to the principles of taking the drug and the prescribed dosage.

Instructions for use of the drug

In order for the treatment to be effective, you should carefully study the instructions for use before use. These instructions always indicate how to take the drug correctly, how many times a day, in what dosage and other information. Each form of Coldact release has its own recommendations for use.

Use of coldact in the form of suspension and syrup

Coldact flu plus suspension is intended for oral administration. The single dose taken depends on the age of the patient. The package along with the bottle contains a dosage spoon ( 5 ml). The interval between doses should be 4 hours. Children over 6 years of age are recommended to take one dose no more than 5 times a day. If you have an elevated body temperature that lasts more than 3 days and the presence of pain for more than 5 days, you should consult a specialist.

Coldact broncho syrup is also taken orally. Before use, shake the bottle with its contents. Recommended dose for children over 12 years of age and adults 20 ml ( 4 teaspoons) 3 times a day. Children from 6 to 12 years old can take 10 ml ( 2 teaspoons) 2 or 3 times a day. This drug should be taken evenly throughout the day. It is not recommended to take the syrup for more than 7 days without a doctor's prescription.

Using coldact in the form of capsules and lozenges

Coldact flu plus in the form of long-acting capsules is taken orally. Children over 12 years of age and adults should take 1 capsule every 12 hours for 3 to 5 days.

Coldact lorcept lozenges are recommended to be taken every 2 hours, 1 tablet. The maximum daily dose for an adult patient is 8 tablets. Children over 5 years of age can also take 1 tablet every 4 hours.

If symptoms worsen or persist after 5 days of using the medicine, you should stop taking it and consult your doctor.

Should Coldact be taken before or after meals?

This drug is usually recommended to be taken after meals. 1 or 2 hours should pass between using the drug and eating. Coldact flu plus in long-acting capsules is recommended to be taken with a small amount of water.

How long does it take for cold act to take effect?

Koldakt begins to act in the human body 20 – 30 minutes after taking it. The duration of action of capsules is 12 hours, and the suspension or syrup is 4 – 4.5 hours.

Paracetamol is absorbed quite quickly and completely from the gastrointestinal tract ( Gastrointestinal tract). It is also distributed in most tissues of the body. Phenylephrine is also absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract quite quickly. Its maximum concentration in blood plasma is reached after 1 – 2 hours. Chlorphenamine after oral administration is relatively slowly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. All these substances are metabolized in the liver and excreted in the urine.

How to store cold product?

The drug should be stored at a temperature of no more than 25 degrees, in a dry place protected from light. It is also necessary to store Koldakt in places inaccessible to children to avoid the development of unwanted side reactions if the medicine is used carelessly.

Shelf life of the drug

Medicines retain their beneficial properties only if properly stored. The shelf life of Coldact is 2 years from the date of production, and it is prohibited to use it after this period. If the expiration date is exceeded, as well as if the drug is stored incorrectly, adverse reactions may occur.

If the drug has become unusable or the expiration date has expired, do not throw it into wastewater or onto the street. In this case, the product must be placed in a bag and placed in a trash container. Thus, these actions will help protect the environment.

Side effects of the drug

If you take medications according to the recommendations specified in the instructions for use, you can avoid or reduce the risk of side effects. Before using Coldact, you must carefully study the instructions supplied by the manufacturer.
Side effects when using Coldact flu plus

Body system

Side effects

Blood system

Liver

Rarely there is an increase in the activity of liver transaminases ( enzymes).

Skin and subcutaneous tissues

Mental disorders

Nervousness and insomnia are rarely observed.

Allergic reactions

Rarely - hypersensitivity, urticaria, angioedema ( Quincke's edema). Very rarely, an anaphylactic reaction, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and toxic epidermal necrolysis may occur.

Is Coldact compatible with alcohol?

You should not take alcoholic beverages at the same time as Coldact, as this may increase the risk of adverse reactions. Alcohol is hepatotoxic. The use of medications also negatively affects the functioning of the liver - they load it. It is worth noting that when the drug and alcohol are used together, the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding increases, blood pressure rises, and a severe allergic reaction may develop. Also, when the concentration of alcohol in the blood increases, it depresses the central nervous system.

Interaction with other drugs

Koldakt is a multicomponent drug, and when used simultaneously with other drugs, the possibility of developing both undesirable reactions and weakening or enhancing the beneficial properties of the substances included in the drug should be taken into account.

Thus, it is highly undesirable to take Coldact together with other medicines containing paracetamol or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs ( ibuprofen, aspirin and others), hypnotics and anxiolytics ( tranquilizers) medicinal substances.

When taking coldact and antidepressants, antiparkinsonian and antipsychotic drugs at the same time, the risk of developing urinary retention in the body, dry mouth, and constipation increases. When using glucocorticosteroids, the risk of developing glaucoma increases.

Paracetamol may reduce the effectiveness of uricosuric drugs ( drugs that increase the excretion of uric acid in gout), as well as when administered simultaneously with barbiturates, carbamazepine, isoniazid and others, the risk of developing the hepatotoxic effect of paracetamol increases. With prolonged and regular use, paracetamol enhances the effect of warfarin and other indirect anticoagulants, and this increases the risk of bleeding.
Chlorphenamine simultaneously with furazolidone, monoamine oxidase inhibitors ( MAO) may lead to hyperpyrexia ( a condition in which the body temperature is above 41 degrees), agitation, hypertensive crisis ( excessive increase in blood pressure).

Phenylephrine concomitantly with MAO inhibitors can lead to an increase in blood pressure, and it also reduces the effectiveness of beta-blockers and antihypertensive drugs. When taking phenylephrine and digoxin and other cardiac glycosides simultaneously, the risk of arrhythmia and myocardial infarction increases.

How does an overdose manifest when taking Coldact?

In case of overdose, you should immediately contact a specialist, as it is very important to provide timely medical assistance in this case.

After taking more than 10 g of paracetamol, overdose symptoms are pronounced, which are manifested by pallor of the skin, decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, pain in the epigastric region, and acute liver failure. Acute liver failure can lead to encephalopathy ( brain damage), metabolic acidosis ( decrease in blood concentration of bases), cerebral edema and death. Rarely, liver failure can develop suddenly and be complicated by renal failure.

In case of an overdose of phenylephrine, the patient experiences nausea, vomiting, agitation, irritability, psychosis, insomnia, convulsions, as well as tachycardia, increased blood pressure, reflex bradycardia ( decreased heart rate due to illness).

Symptoms of chlorphenamine overdose include central nervous system depression ( central nervous system), hyperthermia, mydriasis ( dilated pupils), dry mouth, flushing, urinary retention, intestinal paresis. Nausea, vomiting, disorientation, hallucinations, psychosis, convulsions, and arrhythmias are also observed.

Contraindications to the use of Coldact

Before starting treatment with these drugs, you must familiarize yourself with the contraindications that are indicated in the instructions for use. If the drug is prescribed by a doctor, you should draw his attention to the patient’s concomitant diseases.
hyperbilirubinemia, epilepsy, cardiovascular diseases, alcohol dependence.

Bronchocoldact

Intolerance to components, simultaneous use of antidepressants and beta-blockers, convulsions, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, thyrotoxicosis, pheochromocytoma, prostate adenoma, gastric and duodenal ulcers, angle-closure glaucoma, children under 6 years of age.

Use with caution in case of renal and/or liver failure.

Koldakt lorpils

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, children under 5 years of age.

Koldakt during pregnancy and breastfeeding

According to the instructions for use of the drug, it is prohibited to use it in the form of capsules, suspension and syrup for oral administration to pregnant women and during breastfeeding. It is known that paracetamol is one of the safe non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and this drug does not have a negative effect on the health of a pregnant woman, as well as during breastfeeding. But, in addition to paracetamol, the drug contains phenylephrine and pheniramine, which can adversely affect the course of pregnancy and the health of the child who receives breast milk. In this case, the baby must be transferred to artificial feeding.
