And if at the beginning of the film Thor had to come into conflict with the characters of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo and other Avengers, then after the “showdown” he became a strong part of their team and even set his eyes on the beautiful Black Widow Natalia Romanoff (she aka Scarlett Johansson).

And soon viewers saw Hemsworth in the grotesque horror film “The Cabin in the Woods.” He got a very funny role - the good-natured athlete Kurt Vaughn. In original Norse mythology, Balder is often depicted as the God of Light or God of Day: a bright, brave hero who ended up in Hel due to Loki's deception.

The heavy metal style of Tyr, the one-armed god of war, fits perfectly "Toru", especially after the threequel. So yeah, it all fits perfectly with the humor, energy, and solo sub-series that Taika Waititi has reworked.

By introducing two more sons of Odin, the studio can offer a great tale of sibling rivalry worthy of "Game of Thrones".

NO WAY WITHOUT VALKYRIE

Don't forget about Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie. The story of the greatest warriors of Asgard, accompanying souls to the mystical Valhalla, is also important. In the comics, Thor decides that only his abilities will help him, and Balder will protect Hel from the invading armies of Syndra, daughter of Surtur. But even if Thor "killed" Surtur in "Ragnarok", Tyr can still become the villain fighting Balder.

After all, brotherly bickering is what the Thor movies are based on, so why break with tradition? That is, Thor can go to Valhalla to seek help for the missing Valkyrie... to do this, he just needs to die. It's hard to imagine a simpler way to explain Valkyrie's absence from "Infinity War".

So what do we have? Three brothers (at least). Two thrones. Life against death. Now let's just hope Marvel Studios takes this comic book story into account for the new Thor solo movie.

Loki finds a unique solution: he persuades Thor to dress up as a woman and go to the kidnapper. Thor reluctantly agreed and the two of them went to the kidnapping groom. As soon as the delighted Thrym handed them the hammer, Thor beat the poor fellow, thus trying to restore his reputation, tarnished by dressing in women's clothes. After such a story, it is not difficult to remember the name of Thor's brother - the cunning Loki.

From mythology to cinema

It is not surprising that such bright and charismatic heroes were gradually transformed into cinema and animation. There are a great many films in which they are the main characters or occupy secondary positions. Moreover, the name of brother Thor, known to a wide audience, becomes a common noun (eponym), this is facilitated by the following films:

1. 2011 series "Thor and Loki: Blood Brothers." According to the plot, Loki seizes power in Asgard, chains Odin and Thor, and throws them into dungeons. The coolest Easter egg could be seen in the film's trailer. On Sakaar, near the arena, there is a tower on which metal busts of several famous comic book characters are depicted:

• Beta Ray Bill is an alien who proved worthy of lifting Thor's hammer. For this, Odin created another hammer for him - Stormbreaker;
• Ares - god of war, son of Zeus, Avenger;
• Leshy - scientist Ted Sallis tried to reproduce the super-soldier serum, but after testing it on himself, he turned into a monster and began to live as a hermit;
• Bi-Beast is an android that has two heads (one on top of the other). Each head has its own consciousness and store of knowledge. In the comics, he was created as a subspecies of Inhumans.

All of them are past champions of Sakaar - this is Kevin Feige. And the last bust still under construction is the Hulk, the new Grandmaster champion.

"Planet Hulk"

A significant portion of Thor: Ragnarok is based on the Planet Hulk comic book.

He talks about how the Illuminati (Iron Man, Mister Fantastic, Professor X, Black Bolt, Doctor Strange) sent the Hulk into space because he became too dangerous. He was supposed to fly to a harmless planet, but the ship lost its way and through a wormhole ended up on Sakaar, a cruel planet under the rule of the Red King. The Hulk became a gladiator in the king's arena, and was able to escape from there when the best arena warrior, the Silver Surfer, was released against him.

In "Ragnarok" the plot was changed:

• So, the Hulk did not want to escape from Sakaar - he was quite satisfied with the conditions in which he found himself;
• There is no Red King in the film, the planet is ruled by the Grandmaster;
• The Hulk plays the same role as the Silver Surfer in the original comics. When Thor arrives on Sakaar, he meets a familiar face, but they still have to fight. Like the Hulk and Surfer in the comic;
• In the comics, the Hulk and other gladiators became part of the Brotherhood of Battle, which included, among others, the Kronian Korg (a race of anthropomorphic aliens made of stone) and Miek. If the image of Korg was visually preserved - only his character was changed, then Miek in the comic was completely different. At first he was a small anthropomorphic beetle, but later he created a cocoon and emerged from it as a mighty warrior, whom other beetles listened to.

Grandmaster

Sakaar is ruled by the Grandmaster. He is a representative of the ruling family, which governs the planet, maintaining interest in the main entertainment - the “Championship of Champions”.

In the comics, the Grandmaster is a different character. This is one of the most ancient representatives of the universe, the Collector’s brother (you saw him in Guardians of the Galaxy), an immortal, looking for something new and interesting, because during his long life he has tried everything that is available to him. The City Master, like the Collector, collects rare artifacts.

It is unknown whether the City Master from the cinematic universe has immortality and whether he is in any way connected with the Collector.

"Championship of Champions"

The Contest of Champions is originally called "The Contest of Champions" in the film, a reference to the 1982 Marvel Comics storyline of the same name, in which the Grandmaster and Lady Death kidnapped various Earth heroes to force them to fight in an arena.

Surtur

The fire demon Surtur, the ruler of Muspelheim, is presented in the film exactly according to the canon of Scandinavian mythology (he is called Surtur there, and he is a fire giant). Down to the important detail that it is he who brings Ragnarok to Asgard, destroying it.

Thor's secret sister

In "Ragnarok" we learn that Hela is the firstborn of Odin, that is, Thor is her brother, and Loki is her half-brother (in mythology, he is her father). So, this is a reference to Thor's secret sister, who actually exists in the comics. And we are, of course, talking about a girl named Angela.

She has a rather complicated history, because Angela originally existed in the Spawn comic (!) and was a Hellspawn hunter. But in 2013, Neil Gaiman returned to work at Marvel, and with him the rights to Angela were transferred. Marvel carefully inserted her into the Asgardian pantheon, introducing her as the daughter of Odin, who was thought to have died hundreds of years ago, but survived. And, like Hela from the cinematic universe, she could not return to Asgard because she was kept in a local version of Paradise.

And Hela’s image is reminiscent of a character named Kal Borson, Odin’s brother, who was imprisoned for many years and was able to free himself in the plot of Fear Itself. In the same comic, he broke Captain America's shield, which is vaguely reminiscent of the destruction of Mjolnir in Ragnarok.

Infinity Stones

In the film, one of them appears in a cameo - the Tesseract. We last saw it in The Avengers, and in the finale Thor brought it to Asgard to be kept in Odin's Treasury.

There is a sequence early in the film in which Skurge boasts about his collection of weapons from various worlds. So, he arms himself with two MP4s, with which at the end of the film he covers the Asgardians, shooting Hela’s servants. So, this scene almost completely recreates the death of Skurge in the comics (Thor #362, 1985).

By the way, in the comics his nickname is Executioner. Hela entrusts this position to him in the film, handing him an ax reminiscent of Skurge's signature weapon from the comics.

Triple cameo

When Thor returns to Asgard, he discovers that Loki, in the guise of Odin, is watching a play about the exploits of Loki, who was considered dead. So, Loki in this play is played by Matt Damon, Odin is played by Sam Neill, and Thor is played by Luke Hemsworth, the older brother of Liam and Chris Hemsworth.

Trog

In one scene, Loki apologizes for turning Thor into a frog in the past. This is a reference to Thor #364, in which this occurs, as well as a character named Throg.

Throg, aka Puddlegulp, aka Simon Walterson (created by screenwriter Walter Simonson) is a man who was turned into a frog by a witch. In the scene where Thor wakes up after being caught by Valkyrie, he is chained to a chair and moves through a tunnel at the end of which he will meet the Grandmaster.

This sequence is reminiscent of the boat ride scene in the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in its tone, presentation and dappled, rapidly changing color flow. And Thor gets scared just like the kids and their parents in Mel Stewart's film.

"Real Ghouls"

In one scene in the film, Korg helps Thor choose a weapon, and holds a spear with three ends. He says that with such a spear you can pierce three vampires at once. Fenrir

Fenrir in the film differs from his image from Scandinavian mythology. There he is the brother of Hel (that is, he is the son of Loki), and it is Fenrir who kills Odin during Ragnarok.

There is nothing like that in the film. Here he is Hela's pet, who died in the days when Odin expelled his daughter from Asgard. She resurrects him with the help of the Eternal Flame.

"The Avengers"

The film contains several references to the film "The Avengers":

• When Thor meets the Hulk in the arena, he shouts to Loki, who is in the Grandmaster's box, that it is Banner, asking if he remembers him. And Loki immediately says, “We need to leave this planet,” remembering how the Hulk beat him up;

There are many references to Age of Ultron in Ragnarok:

• When they first meet in the Arena, Thor tells the Hulk everything that has happened to him since their last meeting in Sokovia;
• In the film, we learn that the Hulk flew to Sakaar on the Avengers Quinjet, falling into one of the wormholes;
• In the Quinget, Thor plays a recording of Black Widow in which she says the trigger phrase that turns the Hulk into Bruce Banner. The movie "Avengers: Age of Ultron" ended with the same conversation;
• When Bruce comes to, he remembers the events of Sokovia, mentioning the country and Ultron;
• In the quinget, Thor finds Tony Stark's clothes for Bruce.

"The incredible Hulk"

Valkyrie's callsign on Sakaar is "Scrapper 142". The Grandmaster calls her "one hundred and forty-two", and in the prequel book it was translated as "Ruffnut-142". This is a reference to the comic with the first appearance of Valkyrie - The Incredible Hulk #142.
