What is the Unified State Exam in English 2018

The Unified State Examination in English 2018 is a final exam at school, which is counted as an entrance exam to a university, which is why it is so important to pass it with a high score. In structure and level of difficulty, the Unified State Exam is similar to the international FCE exam. This means that in order to pass successfully, the student must have a level (above average). How is the Unified State Exam in English held in 2018? The exam consists of written and oral parts, which are held on different days. On one day, schoolchildren take the written part, it includes the following sections: listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary. In total, on this day the graduate needs to complete 40 tasks in 180 minutes. A student can receive a maximum of 20 points for each section. Thus, for this day you can score 80 points.

The second part - oral - takes place on another day and available upon request. It lasts only 15 minutes and consists of 4 tasks. On this day, a graduate can earn another 20 points. We strongly advise all graduates to take the oral part: in case of unsuccessful answers you do not lose anything, but in case of successful - earn extra points.

Thus, a graduate can score a maximum of 100 points in the exam. The minimum score to pass the exam is 22 points.

Unified State Exam results are usually published 14 days after passing the second part of the exam, but in some cases they are known after 12 days. Listening

The listening test lasts 30 minutes and consists of three parts. The first two parts are the first and second tasks, respectively, and the third part is tasks No. 3-9 (out of a total list of 40 tasks).

Listening for the Unified State Exam in English in 2018 includes 3 audio fragments combined into one recording. The examiners turn on the recording and do not stop it until the very end, but there are pauses between fragments to read the tasks and transfer the answers to the form.   1. When preparing for the exam, you need to do as many listening tasks as possible in exam format. This way, the graduate will get used to quickly reading assignments and catching key words in speech that will help them find the correct answer.
  2. When choosing an answer, you need to rely not on the words mentioned in the speaker’s speech, but on the meaning of his words. So, for example, in his speech he may in one way or another mention all the answers to the task, but if you delve into what was said, you can understand that there is only one correct answer.

Reading

The reading lasts 30 minutes and consists of 3 parts (9 tasks). We recommend spending no more than 10 minutes on each part in order to complete the allotted half hour.

Exercise 1: There are 7 short texts (3-6 sentences each) and 8 headings. You need to read the texts and choose the appropriate heading for each of them. In this case, 1 heading will be redundant.

  1. When completing the first task, you need to look for keywords that will indicate the meaning of the text and help you find the desired title. In addition, often the main meaning of a paragraph is reflected in the first sentence, and the rest give some minor details. Therefore, in some cases you just need to carefully read the first sentence in order to complete the task correctly.
  2. To successfully complete the second task, you need to have a good understanding of how complex sentences are constructed in English. The fact is that the missing part in most cases is part of a compound or complex sentence. For example, if a student understands that in the subordinate clause who is used in relation to people, which - objects, and where - places, he will be able to successfully complete most of the tasks. It also needs to be repeated, for example, that the infinitive is used to express purpose.
  3. In the third task, the questions are arranged in the order in which they are answered in the text. That is, the answer to the first question will be at the beginning of the text, and not in the middle or end, the answer to the second question will be after the answer to the first, etc.

Grammar and vocabulary

This section of the USE in English 2018 tests the graduate’s knowledge of grammatical structures and vocabulary. The student is given 40 minutes to complete it. Let's see what the student has to do.

  1. The transformation of a word in the first part, as a rule, occurs according to the following principle. If you are given a verb, you must either use it in the correct tense, put it in the correct voice (active or passive), or form a participle from it. If an adjective is given, you must put it in the comparative or superlative degree. If you need to change a numeral, most likely you need to make it ordinal.
  2. The second part mainly tests knowledge of suffixes and prefixes, including negative ones, and the ability to form different parts of speech from a word with the same root.
  3. In the third part, knowledge of word combinations, so-called collocations, is most often tested. In addition, out of 4 words, you will need to choose the most appropriate one in meaning, that is, you need to know the difference between similar words and read the context.

Letter

The graduate is given 80 minutes to write and check 2 written works.

Exercise 1: Given is the text of a short letter from a friend asking questions. The student needs to read it and write a response letter: answer the friend’s questions and ask him questions.

Volume: 100-140 words.

  1. Making a “hat”

    In the upper right corner we write the address: on the top line we indicate the city, below it - the country of residence. No need to write the street and house number: This may be considered a disclosure of confidential information, even if the address is fictitious.

    After the address, skip 1 line and write the date the letter was written in the same upper right corner.

    Next, as usual, on the left we write an informal address: Dear Tom/Jim (the name will be given in the task). It is unacceptable to write Hello here. After the address, put a comma and continue writing the text of the letter on a new line.

  2. Text of the letter

    We start writing each paragraph with a red line.

Task 2: A statement (usually controversial) is given. The graduate writes an essay in which he discusses this topic, expresses his point of view, and also gives an opposing opinion and explains why he disagrees with it.

The essay is written in a neutral style and consists of 5 paragraphs:

  1. Introduction: we formulate the topic-problem and immediately indicate that there are two opposing points of view.
  2. Your opinion: we express our point of view (one) on this issue and give 2-3 arguments that confirm it.
  3. Opposing opinions: we write 1-2 opposing points of view and give arguments in favor of their existence.
  4. We express disagreement: we explain why we do not agree with the above points of view, and provide arguments in defense of our own opinion. However, they should not repeat the arguments from point 2.
  5. Conclusion: We draw a conclusion on the topic, point out that there are different points of view, and finally confirm our point of view.

Our advice:

  1. Stick to the required volume. It is permissible to deviate by 10% from the specified number of words, that is, you can write from 90 to 154 words in a letter and from 180 to 275 in an essay. If a graduate writes at least 1 word less (89), he will be given 0 points for the assignment. If the limit is exceeded, the examiner will count 140 words in a letter or 250 in an essay and evaluate it, and will deduct points for unfinished work, assignment design, topic disclosure, etc.
  2. Avoid paragraphs consisting of one sentence; you need to supplement and justify each of your thoughts. To do this, you can use the constructions In my opinion, I believe, etc.
  3. Monitor the style of written work: colloquial expressions like Guess what? or Wish me luck!, but in an essay it is better to stick to a more formal style. It is important not to overdo it with “informality”: all kinds of well, cause and slang expressions are unacceptable.
  4. Use linking words, they make the text logical and allow you to complement or contrast sentences.

Oral speech

The oral part of the exam is the shortest, it takes only 15 minutes. The graduate needs to complete as many as 4 tasks, for which he can receive a maximum of 20 points. The student submits assignments in front of the computer, his answers are recorded using a headset, and the time countdown is shown on the screen. There is an organizer in the audience who monitors the progress of the exam.

Exercise 1: Popular scientific text is displayed on the screen. In 1.5 minutes you need to prepare and in the next 1.5 minutes read it out loud expressively.

Additional answer forms No. 2 are issued separately by the organizers at the request of the Unified State Exam participant.

Note. The written part of the Unified State Exam in foreign languages ​​includes a “Listening” section, all tasks for which (instructions, texts, pauses) are completely recorded on audio media. The organizer must set up the playback of the recording in such a way that all participants in the Unified State Exam can hear it.

Receive drafts from the organizers, with the stamp of the educational organization at the base where the PPE is located (in the case of the Unified State Examination in foreign languages ​​with the “Speaking” section included, drafts are not issued).

  • Compare the unique CMM number on the CMM sheets and the CMM number indicated on the control sheet;
  • compare the digital value of the barcode on the registration form with the value indicated on the control sheet;
  • make sure the values ​​in both pairs of numbers match. In case of a discrepancy, inform the organizers (who will replace the entire EV set);
  • check the quality of the printed set (absence of white and dark stripes, the text is clearly readable and clearly printed, security marks located over the entire surface of the CMM sheet are clearly visible), and also check the correctness of the region code and PPE number in the response registration form. If any defect is detected, it is necessary to replace the entire EM set.

WHEN COMPLETING THE REGISTRATION FORM AND ANSWER FORMS, ALL USE PARTICIPANTS MUST:

Carefully listen to the instructions on how to fill out the registration area of ​​registration forms, answer forms and how to work with exam materials;

Under the guidance of the organizers, fill out the registration form and registration areas of answer forms No. 1 and 2.

DURING THE EXAM, ALL USE PARTICIPANTS MUST:

After the organizers announce the start time of the examination work (the start and end times of the examination work are recorded on the board), proceed to the examination work.

During the exam, Unified State Examination participants are prohibited from:

  2. Remove examination materials (hereinafter referred to as EM) from classrooms and PPE in paper and (or) electronic media.
  3. Remove writing materials, written notes and other means of storing and transmitting information from classrooms.
  4. Take photographs of EM.
  5. Talk to each other.
  6. Exchange any materials and items with other USE participants.
  7. Rewrite KIM assignments into drafts with the stamp of the educational organization of the Unified State Examination.
  8. Arbitrarily leave the classroom and move around the PPE without the accompaniment of the organizer outside the classroom
Note. In case of violation of these requirements and refusal to comply with them, the organizers, together with members of the state examination commission (hereinafter referred to as the State Examination Commission), have the right to remove the Unified State Examination participant from the exam. In this case, the organizers, together with the State Examination Committee, draw up an act on the removal of the Unified State Examination participant from the exam. A mark indicating the fact of removal from the exam is placed on the forms.
The examination work of such a Unified State Examination participant is not checked.

Unified State Exam participants can leave the classroom for a valid reason (to the toilet, to the medical room) only if accompanied by an organizer outside the classroom; the organizer in the classroom first checks the completeness of the exam materials left by the Unified State Exam participant.

If you have a complaint about the contents of the CMM, inform the organizer about it.

IMPORTANT: when writing down answers to assignments, DO NOT use the back of the forms. All records are kept ONLY on the front side (to record detailed answers, first on answer form No. 2, sheet 1, then on answer form No. 2, sheet 2, then on DBO No. 2). Entries on the back of the forms will not be checked, and the conflict commission will also not consider appeals regarding entries on the back of the forms as appeals on issues related to incorrect formatting of the examination paper.

If the Unified State Exam participant has completely filled out answer form No. 2, the organizer in the audience must:

  • make sure that both sides of the answer form No. 2 are completely filled out, otherwise the answers entered in the additional answer form No. 2 will not be assessed;
  • issue, at the request of a Unified State Examination participant, an additional answer form No. 2;
  • fill out the top field in the additional answer form No. 2 (when issuing an additional answer form No. 2, in the “Additional answer form No. 2” field of the main answer form No. 2, enter the number of the issued additional answer form No. 2, and on the issued additional answer form No. 2, put the number sheet in the corresponding field of the form);
  • record the number of additional answer forms No. 2 issued in the form PPE-05-02 “Protocol for conducting the Unified State Exam in the classroom” and write down the numbers of the additional answer forms No. 2 issued in the form PPE-12-03 “Statement of the use of additional answer forms No. 2”.

COMPLETION OF EXAMINATION WORK BY USE PARTICIPANTS

Unified State Examination participants who completed the examination work ahead of schedule may leave the PES. The organizer needs to accept all EM from them.

UPON COMPLETION OF EXAMINATION WORK BY USE PARTICIPANTS:

Unified State Exam participants put exam materials, including CMMs and drafts, on the edge of their desk. Organizers in the audience: collect examination materials from Unified State Exam participants, including CMMs and drafts.

The Unified State Exam is a standardized form of final testing for students of secondary schools. A number of such exams, for example, Russian language and mathematics, are compulsory, while from other subjects the student can independently choose to take those that are familiar to him better than others.

Despite the generally standard form of the examination, the details of its organization vary somewhat from year to year. The review of these details is the responsibility of Rosobrnadzor, which analyzes the results of tests conducted in previous years and clarifies the procedure for conducting them next year in order to provide students with exam conditions that allow them to demonstrate the knowledge acquired over the years of study to the maximum. In each specific year, the rules for conducting the Unified State Examination, including the list of examination subjects, the time allotted for writing the exam for each of them, and other parameters, are approved by a special order.

Duration of the Unified State Exam

The total length of time allotted for completing the tasks of the unified state exam in a specific subject is also determined by Rosobrnadzor depending on several factors, for example, the complexity of the exam tasks, the total amount of material that the student needs to know in order to successfully pass the exam, and others. At the same time, the length of time for the Unified State Examination includes only the time spent working on tasks: preliminary instructions, opening envelopes with texts and other preparatory procedures are not taken into account in the total duration of the exam.

The time allocated for writing different exams may vary significantly. Thus, in 2014, the shortest period of time, amounting to only three hours, that is, 180 minutes, was allocated for completing Unified State Examination tasks in such subjects as biology, geography, chemistry and foreign languages. Thus, all subjects falling under this category were elective subjects taken by the students.

In 2014, 3.5 hours, that is, 210 minutes, were allocated for completing assignments in one of the compulsory subjects - the Russian language, as well as for writing exams in history and social studies. Moreover, in the category of the longest exams, the duration of which was 235 minutes, one of the compulsory subjects was also mathematics, and along with it - physics, computer science and literature. It is worth noting that previously the time allotted for completing assignments in these subjects was 240 minutes, but in 2012 Rosobrnadzor decided to reduce this period of time by 5 minutes due to sanitary standards and regulations.

In 2017, a new model of the KIM Unified State Examination in Biology was adopted, aimed at increasing the diversity of tested aspects of biological training of graduates.

Each version of the examination paper consists of two parts. The tasks in the variant are presented in continuous numbering mode. The structure of the examination paper has been optimized:

1. The number of tasks in the examination paper has been reduced from 40 to 28.
2. In Part 1, new types of tasks are proposed, which differ significantly in the types of educational actions: to fill in the missing elements of a diagram or table, to find errors in a drawing, to analyze and synthesize information, to analyze graphs and tables with statistical data.
3. The maximum number of primary points has been slightly reduced: from 61 in 2016 to 59 in 2017.
4. The time to complete the job has been increased from 180 to 210 minutes.

In Part 2, the number and types of tasks with detailed answers remained unchanged - 7 tasks.

Particular emphasis is placed on the formation of methods of activity: mastering methodological skills; application of knowledge in explaining biological processes and phenomena, mastering the skills to solve biological problems. Testing the skills of working with biological information is carried out through its presentation in various ways (in the form of texts, drawings, diagrams, tables, graphs, diagrams).

In 2017, it is planned to exclude all tasks with a choice of one answer from the Unified State Examination in Biology. This is explained by the presence of the following significant shortcomings in them: the uniformity of the form of presentation of the content being tested, the inability to create tasks of a problematic or creative nature; lack of capacity to test students' practical skills; difficulty in identifying true gaps in mastering the content among Unified State Examination participants. A significant disadvantage of tasks with a choice of one answer is also the presence of an element of chance, guessing the correct answer.

As a comparative analysis of the Unified State Examination results over the past two years has shown, the reduction in the number of tasks in the examination paper with the choice of one correct answer from 36 to 25 did not lead to a noticeable decrease in Unified State Examination results. The share of USE participants in biology who did not score the minimum number of points remains approximately at the same level, within the limits of statistically acceptable errors.

Significant modernization in the form and structure of the CMM required adjusting the approaches to constructing the examination paper and including tasks of a new format.

In Part 1 of the new format exam paper, only short-answer tasks have been retained, but their number has been increased, and in some cases the form of their presentation has been significantly changed compared to previous years. It is known that tasks with a short answer allow not only to test a larger volume of content of an academic subject, but most importantly, to provide for the assessment of general academic and subject skills (comparison, generalization, classification, systematization, explanation, solving educational and practical problems, etc.), which corresponds to modern trends in the development of general education.

Along with the preservation of existing tasks, new biological tasks appeared, and the range of tasks with drawings expanded.

As an example of a modernized task, we give task 3 (here and below are tasks from the project of the CMM demonstration version).

This is a computational biological problem. The task was created on the basis of tasks with a choice of one answer that are traditional for the KIM Unified State Exam in biology. In the new edition, the Unified State Exam participant, based on knowledge of genetic information and the chromosomal set of somatic and germ cells, independently carries out all the necessary calculations.

As an example of a task for working with a drawing, we give task 4.

The peculiarity of this task model is that the person being certified is asked to derive two of its characteristic features from a “blind” image of an object (there are no captions for the picture). Moreover, one of the signs given in the task tests knowledge of the morphology of the object, while the second tests knowledge of properties or functions. Such tasks test, in addition to the ability to work with visual information, knowledge in the field of the cell and its vital functions.

Along with well-known or modernized types of tasks, the examination paper includes completely new tasks that test the mastery of the conceptual apparatus by filling in gaps in diagrams, tables, working with graphs, tables, histograms, etc. All of them are aimed at strengthening the activity basis and making the examination work more practice-oriented.

As an example of such tasks, task 1 can serve.

This task allows you to test not only knowledge of the conceptual apparatus of the biology course, but also the ability to establish the subordination and hierarchy of terms (concepts), as well as their internal logical connection.

Let's consider examples of tasks (task 21) for working with information presented in graphical or tabular form, a task for analyzing research results.



It seems that with the help of such tasks it is possible to ensure that graduates have developed the fundamentals of a holistic scientific picture of the world and the ability to analyze, evaluate and generalize scientific information.

The new model of the Unified State Exam KIM is consistent with the existing model of the Unified State Exam 9 in biology. Certain types of tasks, which in a modernized form will be included in the KIM in 2017, have successfully passed many years of testing during the certification of students in basic general education programs and are available in the open bank of OGE tasks. They can become the basis for preparing students for the Unified State Exam in biology in the coming academic year.

As an example of continuity, task 9 can serve.

In the OGE, with the help of such tasks, knowledge of the structure, life activity and significance of animal and plant organisms is tested. In the new model of the Unified State Exam KIM, bacteria and viruses will be added to these objects.

In general, in the exam model of the Unified State Exam 2017, the objects of control, as in previous years, are the knowledge and skills that form the invariant core of the content of the biology course in primary and secondary schools, its sections “Plants”, “Bacteria, fungi, lichens”, “Animals” ", "Man and his health", "General biology". These sections are presented in the Codifier in the form of seven content blocks and requirements for the level of training of graduates of educational organizations for the 2017 unified state exam in biology.

According to the schedule for the 2017 Unified State Exam, exams in history and chemistry are held on June 19 during the main period of the Unified State Examination.

About 135 thousand people applied to participate in the Unified State Examination in history. To conduct the Unified State Examination in this subject, more than 2,800 examination points (PPE) will be used.

The history examination paper consists of two parts, including 25 tasks. It takes 3 hours 55 minutes (235 minutes) to complete. The established minimum score for the Unified State Examination in History is 32 points.

During the main period, 83.5 thousand people submitted applications to participate in the Unified State Exam in Chemistry; the exam will be held in more than 2,600 PES.

The examination paper consists of two parts, including 34 tasks. It takes 3.5 hours (210 minutes) to complete. Participants in the Unified State Examination in Chemistry can use a non-programmable calculator during the exam. The established minimum score for the Unified State Exam in chemistry is 36 points.

The progress of exams in the regions will be monitored by public observers and Rosobrnadzor employees.

Exams in history and chemistry complete the Unified State Exam 2017 within the main deadlines. From June 20 to July 1, there are reserve days for passing all subjects. Graduates of previous years, as well as current year graduates who received an unsatisfactory result in one of the compulsory subjects (Russian language and mathematics), or who missed the exam for a valid reason, will be able to take the exams during the reserve period.
