Cefixime: instructions for use. Cefix Cefixime dosage for children

It is characterized by a wide spectrum of action and belongs to the group of third generation cephalosporins.

Release form and active ingredient Cefixime

The pharmaceutical company produces it in the form of dispersible, i.e., oral soluble tablets. The active ingredient is the antibacterial agent cefixime trihydrate. The dosage form is convenient for patients suffering from dysphagia - a violation of the act of swallowing. To give the product a pleasant taste, strawberry flavoring is included.

In 1 tab. contains 400, 200 or 100 mg of active ingredient. The drug is sold in blisters made of PVC and thin metal foil of 1, 5 and 7 pieces or in sets of 2 blisters of 5 pieces.

Pharmacological properties

The antibacterial agent is for oral administration. It has a powerful bactericidal effect due to disruption of the synthesis of bacterial microflora cells. The drug is characterized by resistance to the influence of β-lactamase enzymes synthesized by a number of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, which significantly expands the range of its effects on pathogens.

The bioavailability of cefixime is about 50-60%. Food intake does not affect this factor. The highest plasma concentration is observed 3-4 hours after taking a standard dose of 400 mg. About 65% of the antibiotic is conjugated with blood albumin. The maximum concentration is determined in urine and bile. The drug is able to bypass the placental barrier, so it is not advisable to drink it during pregnancy. It is not found in breast milk. Half-life is 3-4 hours. The antibiotic is not metabolized in the liver; more than half of the dose taken is excreted in the urine during the day, and about 10% through the intestines.

Indications for the use of this cephalosporin

Indications:

Contraindications

The drug is strictly contraindicated in persons with individual hypersensitivity to cefixime, auxiliary ingredients, as well as other cephalosporins and penicillin drugs.

It should not be given to children with chronic renal failure or weighing ≥ 25 kg.

Cefixime during pregnancy and breastfeeding

Special studies regarding the effect of this cephalosporin on the fetus have not been conducted, therefore, drugs should be prescribed with extreme caution during gestation. During lactation, the baby must be switched to feeding with artificial milk formulas.

Dosage regimen

Children weighing over 50 kg and adult patients are prescribed 400-800 g of cefixime.

The medicine can be dissolved or a Cefixime suspension for children can be prepared before use by diluting the capsule in a sufficient volume of boiled water.

For adults and children weighing more than 50 kg, the daily dose is 400 mg in one or two doses.

For children weighing 25-50 kg, the drug is prescribed at a dose of 200 mg per day in one dose.

The duration of the course of treatment is determined by the attending physician; it depends on the severity of symptoms and the dynamics of the process. After relief of clinical signs, it is recommended to take Cefixime for another 2-3 days at the usual dose.

For infectious diseases of the respiratory system and ENT organs, the duration of therapy is usually 1-2 weeks.

Uncomplicated gonorrhea is treated with a single dose of 400 mg.

If uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections are diagnosed in women, treatment is continued for 3-7 days, if upper urinary tract infections - up to 14 days.

In men, regardless of the location of such a process, the duration of the course varies from 1 to 2 weeks.

Side effects

Most patients tolerate this antibiotic well.

Possible complications include:

  • allergies (in case of individual intolerance;
  • bleeding disorders (extremely rare);
  • intestinal disorders ();
  • (rarely).

Overdose

When taking a dose significantly higher than prescribed by the doctor, the side effects listed above may increase.

The victim needs to rinse the stomach and give it orally (white or regular activated carbon).

Reaction of Cefixime with other drugs

This cephalosporin potentiates the effect of indirect anticoagulants.

Drugs belonging to the group of tubular secretion blockers can slow down the excretion of Cefixime through the kidneys, which can lead to an overdose.

When taken in parallel with Carbamazepine, an increase in plasma concentration is observed.

Additionally

The possibility of the so-called cross-allergy with penicillin antibiotics, which requires immediate discontinuation of the drug.

Long-term use may cause.

Cefixime- a third-generation semi-synthetic antibiotic from the group that has a bactericidal effect. Cefixime is the main active ingredient of a number of medications produced in the form of tablets, capsules, and powder for the preparation of oral suspensions.

Use of cefixime and its analogues

Cefixime is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is effective against most gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. The drug is ineffective against pseudomonas, Staphylococcus aureus and most enterococcal infections. Cefixime-based drugs are used to treat:

  • acute conditions and exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis of a bacterial nature;
  • inflammation of the lungs, middle ear;
  • intestinal infections;
  • uncomplicated urinary tract infections;
  • uncomplicated gonorrhea.

Contraindications to the use of the drug are individual intolerance and porphyria. Use with caution in chronic renal failure, pseudomembranous colitis and in old age.

The average daily dose of cefixime for an adult is 400 mg.

While taking a drug based on cefixime, side effects may occur in the form of:

  • dizziness;
  • headache;
  • nausea;
  • diarrhea;
  • flatulence;
  • hives and skin rashes.

Synonyms of cefixime

In medicine, synonyms are usually called drugs with the same active ingredient, which differ only in name and some excipients.

Cefixime tablets are available in dosages of 400, 200 and 100 mg. The following Tablets contain 400 mg of cefixime:

  • Loprax;
  • Maxibat;
  • Sorceph;
  • Suprax Comfortab;
  • Suprax Solutab;
  • Ceforal Solutab.

Drugs that are available in dosages of 100 and 200 mg:

  • Cefik;
  • Cephigo;
  • Flamifix;
  • Fix.

Other forms of release of cefixime drugs:

  • Cefix in powder form for the preparation of a suspension and in capsules;
  • Flamifix (capsules);
  • Sorcef (granules for preparing a suspension);
  • Loprax (powder for suspension);
  • Maxibat (powder for the preparation of suspensions).

Analogs of cefixime

The closest analogues of cefixime are other antibiotics of the cephalosporin group. They have the same effect and are used when the active substance (cefixime) or the form of the drug is not suitable for the patient.

The latter is especially relevant, since cefixime is not available in the form of an injection solution, so if intravenous or intramuscular injections are necessary, analogues are used.

In injection solutions, drugs primarily based on ceftriaxone are used:

  • Auroxon;
  • Blicef;
  • Parzeph;
  • Cefort;
  • Emsef.

There are also medications based on cefipime:

  • Kvartatsef;
  • Maxipim;
  • Maxicef;
  • Norfepim;
  • Cefipime.

Cefazolin-based drugs:

  • Reflin;
  • Cesolin;
  • Cefazolin.

Cefixime is a semi-synthetic antibacterial drug. It belongs to the group of third generation cephalosporins. Among antibiotics, it is quite effective and has a detrimental effect on a wide range of pathogenic organisms. Thanks to this, these tablets are used in the treatment of many diseases, including male infections such as prostatitis and urethritis. The effectiveness is confirmed by the instructions for use, numerous reviews and the experience of doctors. Another advantage of the drug is its availability, price and simple release form.

Cefixime is available in round or oblong tablets with a score for easy breaking. This is an undoubted advantage, because this form of release makes the drug convenient to use for the treatment of prostatitis.

Cefixime can be found at any pharmacy. Its release form is 200 or 400 mg. In addition to the main active ingredient, the tablet contains excipients, such as:

  • hyprolose;
  • cellulose;
  • povidone;
  • silica;
  • calcium saccharin trisesquihydrate;
  • magnesium stearate;
  • dye;
  • flavoring

Thanks to the presence of flavoring, the antibiotic has a pleasant strawberry aroma, which is confirmed by reviews. The color is usually light orange.

The second form of release of the drug is a powder for preparing a suspension. Sold in 50 ml bottles. Instructions for use indicate that 5 ml of the finished suspension contains 100 mg of active substance. The suspension has a pleasant strawberry smell and also contains sucrose, which makes the antibiotic pleasant to use.

Mechanism of action

Cefixime can be produced in capsules under the brand name Suprax.

Many bacteria, including the causative agents of prostatitis, are capable of secreting special enzymes that inactivate the antibiotic. However, due to the presence of resistance to such substances, Cefixime exhibits its activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Therefore, one of the indications for use is prostatitis. The action of the drug is aimed at stopping the synthesis of proteins by bacteria and stopping their reproduction.

The instructions for use state that the activity of the drug is high against the following microorganisms:

  • streptococci;
  • Proteus;
  • hemophilus influenzae;
  • Klebsiella;
  • pasteurella;
  • salmonella;
  • providence;
  • serration;
  • Neisseria gonorrhea;
  • citrobacteria;
  • Shigella

Quite often, the causative agents of prostatitis and urethritis are Klebsiella, Neisseria gonorrhea, Proteus, Serration. However, Cefixime does not act on all microorganisms. There is a group of bacteria that are resistant to it. For example, pseudomonas, enterococci, staphylococci, listeria, clostridia.

Method of use

Antibacterial agents should not be prescribed to yourself; this should only be done by a doctor.

Before starting treatment for prostatitis and other infections of the male reproductive system, it is necessary to undergo a comprehensive examination in order to identify a specific pathogen and determine its sensitivity to various antibiotics. After this, a course of treatment begins.

The dosage of Cefixime is calculated based on body weight. Typically, for those weighing more than 50 kg, the daily dose is 400 mg, which corresponds to one 400 mg tablet or two 200 mg tablets. The medicine can be taken at one time or divided into morning and evening doses. In the presence of erosive and ulcerative changes in the gastrointestinal mucosa, it is recommended to take the drug with meals.

To prepare the suspension, you must use purified boiled water at room temperature. Add it to the bottle up to the indicated mark and shake thoroughly. It is recommended to take a suspension of 400 mg per day. The course of treatment for prostatitis is usually quite long and ranges from 4 to 8 weeks.

Indications and contraindications

Cefixime is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, that is, it is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Considering that Cefixime belongs to the group of antibiotics, then, accordingly, the indication for prescription is infectious bacterial diseases. However, the drug does not demonstrate effectiveness in all cases. In particular, the instructions for use indicate that the antibiotic is indicated for the following conditions:

  1. Infections of the genital organs and urinary tract (prostatitis, epididymitis, orchitis, urethritis, cystitis).
  2. Respiratory tract diseases (tonsillitis, bronchitis, sinusitis).
  3. Otitis.

For prostatitis, the use of this antibiotic is included in the standard treatment regimen, since the most common cause of the disease is bacteria. And without eliminating the cause, it is impossible to achieve a positive result after therapy.

It is worth noting that Cefixime does not have a large number of contraindications, the main one of which is the presence of individual hypersensitivity to its constituent components. However, a cross-allergic reaction may also occur in the presence of hypersensitivity to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics.

Price

Cefixime can also be sold under the brand name Zefacet.

The price of the drug depends on the dosage and country of manufacture. Naturally, the price for 200 and 400 mg will be different. There are a large number of trade names of the drug on the modern pharmaceutical market. Analogs are produced in many countries. According to numerous reviews, analogues are not inferior in effectiveness to the original drug, and the price is significantly lower.

In addition, its convenient release form, positive reviews, reasonable price and cheaper analogues give it even more advantages in comparison with a large number of other antibiotics. It is enough to follow the doctor’s recommendations and take 400 mg of the drug, and then the result will not take long to wait.

Cefixime is a third generation cephalosporin antibiotic for parenteral use. Has a bactericidal effect.

It has a wide spectrum of action, which includes various aerobic and anaerobic gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, incl. Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Resistant to beta-lactamases of both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms.

Highly active against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus agalactiae, Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis (including strains producing beta-lactamases), Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Klebsi ella pneumoniae, Klebsiella oxytoca, Pasteurella multocida, Providencia spp., Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Citrobacter spp. (including Citrobacter diversus), Serratia marcescens. Special information for healthcare workers

Interactions

Inhibitors of tubular secretion delay the evacuation of Cefixime by the kidneys, which leads to an increase in its toxicity.

The drug lowers the prothrombin index and activates the effects of indirect anticoagulants.

Antacids, including magnesium hydroxide or aluminum hydroxide, inhibit the absorption of Cefixime.

special instructions

Use with caution in elderly patients, patients with chronic renal failure or pseudomembranous colitis (history), and in children under 6 months of age.

With long-term use, normal intestinal microflora may be disrupted, which can lead to the growth of Clostridium difficile and cause the development of severe diarrhea and pseudomembranous colitis.

In patients with a history of allergic reactions to penicillins, manifestations of hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics are possible.

During treatment, a positive direct Coombs test and a false positive urine test for glucose are possible.

The semi-synthetic cephalosporin antibiotics of the third generation include the drug "Cefixime", its analogues "Ixim Lupine", "Suprax", "Tsemidexor" and others can be purchased in almost all pharmacies.

"Cefixime" has a bactericidal and antibacterial effect in various diseases and belongs to cephalosporins - drugs whose active substance is 7-aminocephalosporic acid. Compared to penicillin, this acid is stronger.

The active substance of the drug "Cefixime" has a depressant effect on the membranes of bacterial cells - the causative agents of a number of diseases. The medicine is capable of destroying both gram-positive and gram-negative harmful microorganisms.

Cefixime tablets can be used for the following diseases:

  • acute and chronic sinusitis;
  • acute and chronic bronchitis;
  • acute and chronic tonsillitis;
  • pharyngitis;
  • urethritis;
  • cervicitis;
  • intestinal infections in the acute phase;
  • inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs in women.

Cefixime tablets are absorbed in the stomach or intestines. Half of the drug taken is excreted unchanged, and the maximum concentration in the blood is observed 3.5 hours after taking the drug. The main part of the drug is excreted in the urine, the remaining part is excreted in bile.

Features of the use of the drug "Cefixime"

This medicine has a small set of contraindications. Taking Cefixime is prohibited for people with hypersensitivity to 7-aminocephalosporic acid or penicillin. You should not take an antibiotic if you have porphyria, a disorder of pigment metabolism. It is not recommended to use the antibiotic for young children; it is prohibited for children under 6 months.

Pregnant women should take Cefixime with great caution, and nursing women should avoid breastfeeding during treatment with this antibiotic.

Cases of overdose with Cefixime are very rare. In this case, patients may experience signs of toxic poisoning: anaphylactic shock, urticaria, hair loss, dry skin, rashes and dermatitis.

Like any other antibiotic, Cefixime can cause dysbiosis of the gastrointestinal tract, candidiasis, flatulence, and loss of appetite. Therefore, when taking an antibiotic, it is necessary to additionally take drugs that increase the amount of beneficial microflora in the body.

Analogues of the drug "Cefixime"

At the moment, there are many analogues of Cefixime; the price category varies depending on the quantity of the drug and its manufacturer.
