Compared to previous games in the series, Freedom Unite has added an immeasurable amount of diverse content, but the essence remains the same - you hunt monsters, as the name of the game eloquently tells you.

After creating a character that resembles customization in an MMORPG (there will be parallels with MMORPGs in the future, believe me), we will be shown a video about how an unknown monster kicked you off a cliff. You came to your senses already in a small village lost in the mountains. Caring residents will give you simple weapons... in fact, a whole arsenal of simple weapons. They will also explain that you will now have to hunt, and send you to the local hunting school. There you will be taught bad things: possession of weapons, gutting defeated animals, frying their meat and other basics of life as a free hunter.

Having got used to it a little, you will sign up for the local hunters guild and go on your first tasks.

Tasks in this game can be safely divided into several types: gathering, killing several simple monsters or one leader, and delivering various valuable cargo. The concept of these tasks is shamelessly repeated - first you will be asked to bring berries, then kill goats, then bring herbs ... Do not expect a special plot and intrigue.

It's no secret that Monster Hunter Freedom Unite was conceived as online game, mostly. Co-op mode via Ad-Hoc supports up to four players, and you can put together your own small gang. So my friends and I did during gatherings at the dacha with beer. There were only three of us, but that was enough for the multiplayer of the game to open up and play with all its colors.

When playing with friends, you begin to understand why the game has such an inconvenient camera. The fact is that it must be centered with the left shift or rotated with the arrows. All this is very infuriating, because nimble monsters constantly strive to be behind you, surround and grumble. But if your back is covered by true friends, then no whims of the camera are no longer terrible.

And the types of weapons and armor - just tueva hucha! Starting with the usual sword with a shield, a spear, a huge terrible sword and ending with two daggers, a simple firearm, a bow and an elephant-piercing hammer. You will even be given a strange musical weapon, the Hunting Horn. By blowing notes out of it in different sequences, you can get effects that strengthen you.

Even if you do not find living partners, you will not be left alone. The fact is that the people of this village live side by side with medium-sized humanoid cats. Cats work on the farm, trade, even give you quests. You yourself can hire a couple of cats. First, you will have access to cook cats, and a little later - fighting cats. All this meowing guard will be placed in your kitchen. You can order meat frying from chef cats (at the same time, mustachioed masters call you the unusual word "Gastronom" in this context), you can give instructions to battle cats, assign them to training and learn skills useful in battle.

The cat that you take with you on a hike will help you in every possible way: beat the enemy, distract him, which is often very useful. The cats are even equipped with bombs that they hurl at will. After all, they are fun and will not let you get bored.

Finally, one cannot fail to mention the excellent voice acting of the game. Music captivates and delights with orchestral performance. The graphics are PSP-standard, but endowed with a strong Japanese style. And the game also has a decent Data install, after which everything starts to load just instantly.

What follows is a short briefing, an explanation that there are various merchants and an offer to take a training session (which I recommend everyone to do). Again, a typical role-playing game, isn't it? Next, you expect to hear speeches about saving the world, princesses and others. familiar things, but no. No story about saving the world. More precisely, not even so, no plot in general.

Here is such a template break. A bit unusual, given that it's kind of like an RPG . But typical role play Monster Hunter is not. This is if you want an MMO monster hunter simulator. Why MMO? Due to the fact that the game has a cooperative for four people, look for players and go ahead, towards adventure. You can also take a partner in the form of a talking cat. In general, to conduct a full-scale preparation for the hunt, all the nuances of which can be listed for a week. And if with tasks to search for plants, you can skip such thorough preparation, then hunting does not forgive mistakes. Do not complete the task for the time given for it, not only will you not see the reward, you will also receive a fine.

If you still managed, prepared well and completed a couple of tasks, then it's time to spend honestly earned money on weapons and armor, because it's dangerous to go to stronger monsters in old armor, even with a cooperative game. And what is important, not just upgrade weapons, but choose exactly the one that you like. Well, or in the case of a cooperative game, pick up weapons for the needs of the team. The benefit of weapons in the game as many as 11 classes. Everyone will find something of their own.

And about each of the classes, I’ll probably tell you a little more:

- Sword and shield(Sword and Shield) is a balanced weapon that players who are new to the series will feel good with. The advantages include high movement speed with weapons, high attack speed and a shield that, if used correctly, can save a life. Of the shortcomings, perhaps only low damage.

- Long Sword The (Long Sword) is an almost perfect weapon for beginners, although it is also perfect for experienced players. High speed, plus a fairly large range and attack power, do their job. In addition, the "long sword" has a special indicator, filling which. You can perform a "super combo" that will deal massive damage.

- The hammer(Hammer) - a weapon resembling a "big sword". High damage, ability to use as a shield and the function of accumulation of strength. Of the disadvantages, the attack takes a long time, plus a short attack distance.

- Battle Horn The (Hunting Horn) is a great weapon for a cooperative game, however, it is not very convenient for playing alone. This is because the main point of this weapon is in the mass buff of the group. As a direct weapon, it resembles a hammer, but deals less damage.

- Onion(Bow) is the best ranged weapon for beginners. High attack and movement speed, the possibility of a charged attack and no long cooldown. Of the shortcomings, weak damage.

Not a bad choice, is it? I remember not so many games that can boast of such a variety.

By choosing the right weapon, you can go on a mission. Several portions of the hunt and again the manufacture of new weapons, or an upgrade of the old one.

Here, of course, many may think that such a process, alternating preparation for battles, buying new weapons and fighting monsters, can quickly get bored. But no, that won't happen. Especially if you are playing with friends. I played the PSP version for over 500 hours and this is far from the limit, Monster Hunter can be played almost endlessly, because it is an incredibly deep and interesting game.

Well, what the game is, I think it's clear, it's time to talk about the quality of the port. And they ported the game just fine. There's nothing to complain about here either. The picture was wonderfully adapted to the 4:3 screen of the iPad, the fps is stable, there are no crashes or freezes. Management is also competently adapted to touch screens. All controls are exactly where they should be. The main part of the "buttons" fits perfectly under the thumbs of both hands. And even more than that, playing on the iPad is often even more convenient than on the PSP, because absolutely everything you need fits on the big screen without any problems. Plus, you can easily rotate the camera by simply swiping your finger across the screen. Playing Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on the iPad is a real pleasure, the game is enjoyable, and there is not even a hint of discomfort. The price of $14.99 is fully justified, you get a full-fledged, not cut down game from a portable console, with perfectly adapted controls, in which you can spend more than a dozen hours.

While hunting big monsters, there are a few things you should keep in mind before jumping into the fight. For starters, never go attack a new monster as soon as you see it: most likely you will just get damanged. Instead, just keep away from it and try to understand how it behaves. Once you feel like you know how the monster acts, you can start the real attack.

When you meet a new monster, most of the times it's always better to damage it with non-elemental attacks. After you have defeated it and gathered some parts, you can check out the properties of the armor that can be crafted from these parts to check out which element the monster is weak against so that next time you will be able to take it down in a faster way.

Cat

  • Red is needed for storing quest and valuable items.
  • Blue contains things that are given to us on the quest. Usually this is a map, stones, sharpening, a couple of potions, etc. After completing the quest, the items taken (except for the map) remain in the inventory.

Meanwhile, after clearing the chest, a mini-map appeared in the corner. As you can see, one location consists of zones of different sizes. Okay, now we're leaving the "prison" zone. Gagua birds are waiting for us there. They themselves are not dangerous - they can peck only once. But first, sneak up on one and strike. The bird will startle in fright, and a luminous little thing or an egg (if you're lucky) may appear under it. In both cases, pick up the find and run to the starting area. There we approach the red chest and interact with it. The find is now in the chest, plus we were given Yukimo Points for it. Well, now let's get down to the main goal - we are looking for mushrooms. The easiest way to find them is in location number 9. But I will not rush you - explore the map as much as you like, but do not forget about the time (limited time is given for quests, but do not despair - there is quite a lot of time). Dinosaurs Jaggi will meet in some locations. Again, nothing complicated. Dodge and strike. Head back to the starting area once you've explored the map and collected 10 Special Mushrooms. There, as in the first time, put everything in the red chest. Quest completed! We are given an additional 20 seconds to put ourselves in order (in hunting quests, more time is allotted so that they can collect (swarm) materials from monsters). You definitely have the makings of a hunter!

Quests and all about them

What we just went through was a gathering quest. Let's go through all the types of quests.

In the guild, quests are divided into Low Rank and High Rank. As you complete quests, your HR (Hunter Rank) will increase. On low-level and high-level quests, other materials are carved from monsters.

During the execution of some quests (more precisely, after completing the objective of the quest), a notification appears with the words "Environment unstable!". Run without hesitation, because in a few minutes a monster will appear, which is still too strong for us.

To take the quest, you need to deposit a small amount. So failing a quest is a little more than wasted time.

To open a passing quest, you need to complete certain tasks on each star.

About fighting cats

On the farm or in the house at the booth, cats can be given workouts that will increase certain parameters. Hard workouts (which will become available to learn over time) can only be assigned to one cat, while easy workouts can be set to several at once.

Cats, like their owners, also have skills. They study for Comrade Points(earned by completing tasks and some training), they open upon reaching certain goals (kill such and such a monster, reach such and such a level) and occupy a certain number of slots.

Warcat gear

All equipment (weapon, helmet and breastplate) is obtained exclusively by crafting. The process itself is a highly simplified analogue of its "big brother".

Everything is done by the blacksmith's neighbor, the cat. As mentioned earlier, after creating equipment for a character, remains appear in the inventory. It is from the remains that all the equipment of battle cats is made. You can get more of this material from the same blacksmith cat by selecting the "Create Scraps" option. All remains belong to some monster. For example, Buggy's skin was lying around in our inventory - you can use it for consumption and get a few remains. Felin equipment also has Power and Critical Strike stats, but no upgrade slots. And remember - well-dressed cats will be able to defeat monsters of very large monsters.

Craft is an integral part of the game. This is the only way to get weapons and armor (the equipment merchant does not count, since the range of its goods is not updated for almost the entire game). Skills

Skills are various skills, both passive and active, that are activated when a certain number is accumulated. For example, a skill that increases protection from fire. Suppose he has three stages: weak (when scoring 10 points), medium (when scoring 15 points) and strong (when scoring 20 points). So, our helmet has 5 points of this skill. Armor 2. Gloves 3. Belt 2. 5+2+3+2=12. This means that we have activated the fire protection skill of the weak stage. If, for example, we insert a decoration into a weapon that increases the same skill by 3 points, then it will already be 15, which means that the middle stage of this skill is activated.

Scenery

The equipment is done, but something is still missing. And what is missing is just decorations - stones that fit into equipment slots and give certain abilities. Everything is created by the same blacksmith and also requires different materials. Decorations of different strength (for example, +1 and +3 ability) require a different number of slots. And now for an example: they created a set of armor, everything is fine, but the set has a negative effect - lowering the protection against fire of the first stage (10 points in total).
