But the P70 is not only interested in the battery. In addition to the extremely capacious battery, there is also support for 4G / LTE, a lot of memory and previously unseen hardware from MediaTek, which promised to be very fast.

Good screen, very bright, very contrast. Curiously, in some reviews on other sites (of those whose opinion I fully trust), I met mentions that the brightness, on the contrary, is not too high. This suggests that perhaps different screens are used in P70s from different batches.

The resolution, for my subjective taste, is more than sufficient for five inches.

Judging by the presence of a film on the screen in the kit, the glass is not protected here, no Gorilla Glass. However, I don't see any scratches or wear on it. However, I did not introduce the P70 to keys or other similar sharp objects.

The oleophobic coating is not outstanding, but it is clearly there. Fingerprints appear quite willingly, but getting rid of them is not at all a problem.

Sensor. But there is one funny thing about him. However, I don’t know if it’s just the sensor, or if it’s the way the software is configured to process clicks. The point is this. The sensor is competent, responds well to pressing, pinching, etc. There are no problems with scaling, clicking on button links and the like. But dragging icons across desktops and putting them into folders is a pain. They are somehow tough, resist, break out and do not want to unfold.

The problem is not the greatest. It's not often that you have to do this. But annoying, of course.

At the same time, Lenovo P70 won the tests for video playback and games, but lost all the rest - music, white screen, GPS ... Ie. it turns out that the P70 works well under load, but does not know how to save charge in quieter operating modes.

In the hands of the phone lies well and looks quite thin, especially considering what kind of battery is installed here. Also surprising is the really small weight of the smartphone with such a battery - only 149 grams. Right side: power button and volume rocker. The power button, in my opinion, is located very conveniently. The volume rocker is not pressed very distinctly, but this can be experienced with humility and patience.

Top end: second microphone and audio output. By the way, the upper and lower ends are toned under the glass. But this is glossy plastic, which, by the way, is quite easily soiled.

I didn’t like the auto-brightness adjustment at all: it darkened the screen too much, it was very inconvenient to use. By the way, the MT6752 chipset itself implements a number of proprietary technologies from MediaTek, which should improve the quality of the image on the screen. For example, ClearMotion technology increases the frame rate in video from 24-30 per second to 60 in real time - this significantly improves the smoothness of the picture. The second technology, MiraVision, adjusts the saturation, brightness and contrast of the screen output, achieving the most beautiful picture. There is no access to enable/disable these technologies in the smartphone settings, but there is information that they are simply enabled by default. The viewing angles of the smartphone are simply excellent, the screen deviation vertically and horizontally has almost no effect on the picture. Device operation Lenovo's own development shell called Vibe UI is installed here, which can be flexibly customized to the user's preferences. The sound in decent headphones (Audio-technica ATH-ES7) is tolerable, some bass appears, but the volume, in my opinion, is insufficient. You can listen, but nothing more: it doesn’t break through a tear of admiration. Video 1080, 4K - everything is played without any delays, knots and hitches.

I have seen smartphones with noticeably worse camera quality. However, judge for yourself - the pictures are in front of you. Performance The system interface works smoothly, I did not notice delays and brakes. Applications work smartly. AnTuTu gave him 43,439 parrots.

Battery Life The 4000 mAh battery and new chipset technologies promised records in terms of battery life, but the reality turned out to be a bit more modest. In my usual mode of use (calls, instant messengers, Internet, reading, help programs), the smartphone, in general, lived normally on a single charge for two days. But not three days. In road mode, that is, constant use, he confidently lived a full day and at the end of the day showed somewhere else 15-20% of the charge. But battery tests showed some unexpected results. I ran them with the automatic adjustment mode turned off. (As I wrote, I do not like her work, she darkens the screen a lot.) Video. Wireless communications are disabled, the brightness is set to a comfortable 40%, in MK Player the video of the series is spinning in a cycle. And quite unexpectedly for me - only 9 hours 47 minutes. I didn't even believe it, I did the test again. Got 10 hours 5 minutes. Internet. The brightness is set to a comfortable 40%, all wireless networks are turned on, the page is updated in the browser every 30 seconds. 12 hours 15 minutes. Well, at least something. Reading. Observations at work and conclusions During testing, no troubles were observed - no freezes, no reboots, no heating. I really liked the settings options - the shell provides interesting functions and is flexibly sharpened to the user's preferences. I tested a smartphone with two SIM cards - none of them lost the network. (Sometimes such things happen with dual-SIM devices.) The price of 18-20 thousand rubles for such a smartphone with its characteristics, more similar to the top model, looks quite attractive. I liked the smartphone. It is not without flaws (sound quality and camera), but in general - very worthy. Well, it should be noted that Mediatek chipsets are developing in a clearly positive direction. Until recently, these chipsets were a sign of cheap and frail phones with poor performance and noticeable glitches (just remember what problems old chipset models encountered, for example, with GPS), and now the new Mediatek chipsets demonstrate the capabilities that were previously characteristic of flagship model chipsets (LTE, multi-core, speed, powerful graphics accelerator, and so on), but at the same time, the prices for smartphones where they are installed are more in the budget zone, and not in the top. You can easily "disable" it (yes, yes, that's right), and most of it freely allows you to delete it altogether. Those. formally, it (software) will not shine anywhere (including in memory), shortcuts will even disappear. Therefore, I do not consider "extra software" a minus, since this is already a common thing everywhere. --3. FORM FACTOR: During the transition, the diagonal was somewhat frightening, yet for me all devices over 4.7 "are already shovels. But there are many different little things that make life easier when working with such shovels with one hand. The case thickness is up to 9.3 mm, like the YotaPhone 2, which is slightly thicker than the average for the tested smartphones. The weight of the Lenovo P70 phone is 150 grams (the weight of the Lenovo P780 and Philips Xenium W6610 are 176 and 200 grams respectively), the 5-inch Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and YotaPhone 2 weigh almost the same.

The appearance of the Lenovo P70, in our opinion, cannot be called attractive, even the Lenovo P780 with its metal back looked more interesting. The P70 model has an angular body with rounded side edges. Speakers are located on the bottom of the device, however, the right speaker does not make sounds. The back panel of the phone collects fingerprints, although it is not glossy. The device lies well in the hand, but its corners noticeably rest against the palm.

The Lenovo P70 smartphone has a collapsible body: the cover can be easily removed, under it there is a non-removable battery, a slot for a memory card and for two micro-SIM cards. Build quality is generally good, but the removable lid snaps on tightly: it takes some effort to get it snug against the case.

The P70 phone is equipped with a 5-inch IPS display with HD resolution (1280×720 pixels). The pixel density is 294 per inch, which is quite clear for a diagonal of 5 inches. The value is not much lower than the iPhone 6 or with their Retina displays.

The maximum brightness of the display turned out to be high - up to 462 cd / m2, with a margin for a bright sunny day. The minimum brightness of the white background is 17 cd/m2, which is bright if you use your smartphone in the dark. The display has auto-brightness, but it does not have a smooth adjustment. We checked its operation - it quickly works in the direction of increasing the brightness, but when it is necessary to dim the brightness, the display does not work immediately. In the sun, reading from the display was difficult, but not critical, in general, the image remained readable. The viewing angles of the Lenovo P70 display are not the maximum, but they are wide enough for comfortable work with a smartphone.

The display turned out to be very easily soiled - during the tests, the screen collected fingerprints. The smartphone does not have a glove mode or color settings. In our opinion, the latter feature would not hurt - the colors look flashy, especially on the proposed lock screens.

Camera

The Lenovo P70 has good cameras for a mid-price smartphone: the main one is 13 MP and the front one is 5 MP. The main camera is equipped with LED flash, autofocus, HDR mode, 3D model shooting mode, face and smile detection, panorama shooting and much more. Compared to the top-end Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro, there are fewer different modes and settings, although it is possible to adjust the sharpness, saturation, tint, etc. The camera interface can be called simple and straightforward, you do not have to look for the desired settings for a long time.

The maximum photo resolution is 4160×3120 pixels. The camera shoots Full HD video at 30 frames per second. When recording video, we did not detect tracking autofocus. Audio is recorded in stereo.

The photo quality is not high for a 13 MP camera, the same Huawei Honor 6 or Lenovo Vibe X2 shoot better. Autofocus does not always work clearly the first time, it is advisable to take several shots. The camera does not cope well with uneven lighting, many objects in the photo are highlighted. In such cases, you can resort to the HDR mode (to improve the detail of shadows and highlights in the frame). In low light, the camera starts to make a lot of noise. In terms of detail and sharpness, it is inferior to many cameras. You will be able to “grab” and capture a specific detail, but at the cost of uneven frame sharpness. You can only make a good shot with uniform lighting, and not always on the first try.

The 5 MP front camera of the phone is here, rather, not for video calls, but for selfies. The camera does not have autofocus or flash. The front camera shoots video in 640×480 resolution at 30 frames per second. You can take selfies in Portrait mode with face beautification or effects such as sepia. In general, the front camera does its job well.

Working with text - 3.0

As a rule, Lenovo smartphones have a standard keyboard from Google, even top models. On the Lenovo P70 phone, manufacturers also limited themselves to a regular keyboard. In general, the keyboard from Google is good. When typing, you can use continuous text input (Swype) and switch between languages ​​using a separate key. Note that the icons do not have markings for additional characters, but numbers can be entered from the top row of keys. In addition, there are such standard features as blocking obscene words, word suggestion, sound / vibration feedback on keystrokes, etc.

Two browsers are preinstalled on the Lenovo P70 smartphone: Google Chrome and Yandex Browser. The first one has support for synchronizing tabs with the desktop version of the browser, fitting text to a pre-selected size. The second one has a Turbo mode for fast page loading. Taking a screenshot of the entire page, reading mode or automatic text fitting is not here. As tests have shown, the smartphone copes well with several open tabs, works quickly and practically “does not slow down”.

If the Lenovo P780 smartphone had a simple set of wireless connections, then the Lenovo P70, in comparison, has support for LTE (Cat 4 up to 150 Mbps). The phone does not have an NFC chip or an infrared port. At the same time, the P780 model had dual-band Wi-Fi, which the novelty does not have. The smartphone has a Bluetooth module with support for the A2DP profile for audio and A-GPS transmission.

The phone has two Micro-SIM card slots, a memory card slot and a Micro-USB connector. The USB connector does not support MHL or SlimPort, but you can connect peripheral devices (mouse, keyboard, hard drive, etc.) to it.

Multimedia - 3.0

The multimedia capabilities of the Lenovo P70 are, in our opinion, average. The smartphone supports common video formats and codecs, plays video in high quality, up to Full HD video. However, in our tests it could not run, for example, FLV, WMV, and 2Ki 4K video, which is not surprising. There is no choice of subtitles and audio tracks or any wide settings in the built-in video player.

The audio player plays popular MP3 and AAC formats, as well as WAV, but does not play AC3, WMAV2 and FLAC (the latter can be launched through the file manager). The standard applications for video and audio are preinstalled on the smartphone, for example, Google Play Music, which cannot be called the most convenient.

Sound quality is generally average. There were no headphones included with Lenovo P70.

Battery - 4.2

Battery life is perhaps the main advantage of a smartphone. Lenovo P70 is equipped with a 4000 mAh battery. Formal capacity is not everything, the smartphone performed well in tests for battery life. The Lenovo P70 played HD video at maximum brightness for 11 hours! This is one of the best results in our tests - only Samsung Galaxy Note 4 lasted longer (12 hours 30 minutes) and Philips Xenium W6610 (12 hours 20 minutes). In the mode of listening to music lasted 95 hours or almost four days. In the “medium” intensity mode (checking mail, Wi-Fi on, about an hour of games a day, watching one movie, a couple of calls, browsing, listening to music on headphones), we had enough smartphone for 2-2.5 days of work. If you connect the power saving modes, set the brightness lower, then you can easily get about three days of work - the result is impressive.

Performance - 3.1

The device uses a new eight-core 64-bit MediaTek MT6752 platform - all cores operate at a frequency of up to 1.7 GHz. The Mali-T760MP2 is responsible for the graphics, the amount of RAM is 2 GB. Smartphone performance at a high level - in our tests, the smartphone coped well with benchmarks and most heavy games.

The Lenovo P70 phone is fast with built-in apps and more. You will be able to actively "surf" the network with several open tabs. We only note that the camera could be loaded faster. The smartphone can be considered as a gaming platform, but the "stuffing" is not optimized for all games. So, the games NOVA 3, Dead Trigger, Modern Combat 5 or Minion Rush run smoothly on a smartphone. What can not be said about Asphalt 8, which "slows down" at high settings. However, it is also possible to play it, albeit with minor difficulties.

In benchmarks, the Lenovo P70 smartphone showed strong results, not much lower than the flagships of 2014. In the AnTuTu benchmark, it received points comparable to the results of the Sony Xpeira Z3 Compact - 44325 points. 3DMark's Ice Storm Unlimited is slightly lower, with an average of 10860 points, almost on par with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Memory - 3.5

The built-in memory of the Lenovo P70 smartphone is 16 GB, of which about 11.8 GB is available to the user. Most users will have enough of these indicators, but if you shoot a lot, store music or video, download games, this will not be enough. However, you can always buy a memory card (up to 32 GB is supported).

The smartphone has a removable smartphone cover, however, hot swapping of the memory card is not supported - Lenovo P70 needs to be rebooted after manipulating the micro-SD card.

Peculiarities

Smartphone Lenovo P70 runs on Android 4.4.4 and a proprietary shell from Lenovo. The manufacturer plans to update the OS to Android 5.0 Lollipop in mid-2015. The phone is pre-installed with Google services, applications from Yandex, a utility for “cleaning” and optimizing a smartphone, the Security application, a file manager, and a number of others. There are also separate "special" settings where you can find a number of unusual modes, such as lowering the ringer volume when you pick up the phone, and other "smart" functions.

The main features of the device are battery capacity and battery life, productive stuffing, LTE support, dimensions and weight. These characteristics were lacking in previous devices with long battery life. Among the pluses, we note a collapsible case and support for two SIM-cards.
