Cold-smoked mackerel for salad must be peeled and all bones removed. Cut the fish into cubes with a sharp knife and place in a bowl.


Boil potatoes, you can also bake them in their skins in the oven.

Peel the boiled potatoes and cut into the same pieces as the mackerel. To save time preparing this salad, boil the potatoes and eggs ahead of time.

Boil eggs as usual for salads for 9 minutes.
Chop the peeled eggs and add to the salad with the rest of the products.


Fresh tomatoes, preferably from fleshy varieties, cut into cubes and send to the salad. In salads where smoked fish or meat is present, you can add pickled or lightly salted vegetables, you get an excellent combination. In my case, I used a few lightly salted brown tomatoes, it turned out very tasty. Chop a few sprigs of parsley (you can also green onions) and add to the salad. If you have one sweet and sour fresh apple, you can add it to this dish for piquancy.


Stir the salad and season it with mayonnaise or sour cream. Use salt and spices to taste, but remember that smoked mackerel is already quite salty.


Cover the finished salad of smoked mackerel and potatoes with a film and let it stand in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours so that it soaks and reaches its taste. Serve salad in deep bowls in portions or in one large salad bowl. You can complement this salad with delicious and crispy bread.

Cooking Tips:

  • To prevent the eggs from bursting during cooking, salt the water well and add a drop of vinegar. For easy cleansing, immediately after boiling, soak the eggs in ice water and leave for 20 minutes.
  • To make jacket potatoes delicious, add a tablespoon of salt and one clove of garlic to the water.
  • Instead of boiling potatoes, you can bake them in the oven. To do this, thoroughly wash the tubers and rub them with salt. The skin will keep the potato pulp from taking on too much salt. Put in a mold and bake until done.
  • To prepare croutons for salad, rub a slice of rye bread with garlic and fry in vegetable oil until golden brown.
